Peloton Community in Motion Chicago Brings 75 Bikes to Underserved Neighborhood

The first activation at the Auburn Gresham Healthy Lifestyle Hub included a wellness session led by Peloton instructor Nico Sarani.

Peloton and LISC (Local Initiatives Support Corporation) have launched Community in Motion, an initiative placing 75 Peloton bikes in community spaces across Chicago, with a focus on reaching residents in neighborhoods that have historically had limited access to premium fitness resources.

The first activation took place at the Greater Auburn Gresham Development Corporation’s Healthy Lifestyle Hub, where Peloton and LISC Chicago marked the occasion with a ribbon cutting, equipment tutorials, cooking demos, and a wellness session led by Peloton instructor Nico Sarani. Additional locations will be announced as the initiative rolls out.

Peloton Community in Motion Chicago Builds on an Established Foundation

This is not the first time Peloton and LISC have worked together in Chicago or beyond. In 2021, LISC and Peloton forged a partnership to advance racial equity and democratize access to fitness resources, with the collaboration tied to Peloton’s Racial Equity Pledge and LISC’s Project 10X community assets and well-being pillar. That partnership focused on the Bronx, where Peloton and LISC outfitted the Bronx Commons fitness center with Peloton and Precor equipment and provided free two-year Peloton App memberships for all Bronx Commons residents.

Chicago was in the mix early, too. With LISC, Peloton also activated a community wellness space with Claretian Associates in Southwest Chicago as part of those same investments.
Community in Motion extends that history into a significantly larger footprint, with 75 bikes distributed across the city rather than a single site activation.

A City Where Peloton Has Deep Roots

The LISC partnership is part of a broader, ongoing relationship between Peloton and Chicago. In August 2023, Peloton and the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago launched a strategic partnership aimed at advancing community health and wellbeing, increasing access to fitness programming, and closing racial health and opportunity gaps across communities. Four YMCA of Metro Chicago locations were outfitted with 12 total Peloton Bikes in specially designed, co-branded experiential spaces, with sites in Humboldt Park, Woodlawn, and the northwest and western suburbs chosen for their geographic and demographic diversity. That partnership expanded in 2024, eventually reaching all 18 YMCA community hubs in the Chicago area with Peloton Bike+ and Row equipment.

Chicago has also served as a recurring stage for Peloton’s in-person events. In October 2023, Peloton On Tour: Live From Chicago brought instructors to the city for a weekend of live classes, community events, and a Leaderboard Awards ceremony. More recently, Peloton partnered with MoveMENt, a Chicago-based men’s wellness community, for a pre-marathon shakeout run ahead of the 2025 Chicago Marathon, led by instructors Matt Wilpers, Marcel Dinkins, and Joslyn Thompson Rule.

What Peloton Community in Motion Chicago Means for Auburn Gresham

The Auburn Gresham neighborhood is a meaningful choice for the first Community in Motion activation. The area has been a focus of significant community investment, and the Auburn Gresham Healthy Lifestyle Hub, where the first Peloton bikes now live, provides healthy food, healthcare, social services, banking, and WiFi access all in one place. Placing Peloton equipment inside a hub built around holistic community support reinforces the intent of the program.

Nico Sarani’s presence at the launch is also notable. Sarani is a Peloton yoga, meditation, and foam rolling instructor who joined the platform in 2021 as its first German-language yoga instructor. Her participation in the Auburn Gresham activation signals Peloton’s personal touch in sending instructors into communities as part of these launches, not just equipment. Recently celebrating her 5-Year Pelo-versary, Nico has not been to many community activations yet. This sounds like the start of something new for her.

LISC Chicago has confirmed that more activations with additional partners will be announced. The full scope of Peloton Community in Motion Chicago, including which neighborhoods and organizations will host the remaining bikes, has not yet been released.

For a company that has spent the last several years expanding beyond home equipment and into community spaces, corporate wellness, and live events, the Peloton Community in Motion Chicago initiative fits a clear strategic direction. Whether it becomes a model for other cities remains to be seen, but in Chicago, the groundwork has been laid for some time. We love to see it, Peloton!
