DJJM Returns to Peloton After 6 Months Away With a Serious Hip Injury
DJJM Returns: The Comeback Peloton Members Have Been Waiting For
DJJM returns to Peloton on April 16, and the community that has been quietly waiting for news finally has its answer. John Michael, Peloton’s beloved Producer of Music Programming and the driving force behind Live DJ Rides and Runs, shared the full story of his six-month absence in an Instagram reel, revealing a hip injury that happened mid-class, live, in front of thousands of members around the world.

What Happened on November 21st
According to his account, the injury occurred on November 21st during a live DJ Ride with Cody. About seven minutes into the class, DJ John Michael turned to cue something and felt what he described as a pop in his hip. He could no longer stand. Rather than stop the class, he shifted all his weight and continued for the remaining 23 minutes, relying on his trademark “arm choreo” while simultaneously texting his husband one-handed during moments off camera. The message: come to the studio, I need to go to the hospital, I think I dislocated my hip.

The class ended, he made his way to the back, and what followed was a six-month process that he acknowledged was complicated, involving physical therapy, MRIs, and multiple tests. He did not share the specific diagnosis in the reel, noting only that things were complex behind the scenes and that he appreciated the patience and kind messages from members who had been wondering where he went.

DJJM Returns With Adrian Williams on the Tread
DJJM returns to the platform on April 16 with a Live DJ Run alongside instructor Adrian Williams, a pairing the community knows well. That format puts DJ John Michael at the decks blending electronic beats live while Adrian leads the session on the Tread, creating an atmosphere that the Clip Out has described as feeling more like a party than a typical workout.
It is worth noting that Adrian himself has experienced the road back from injury. In 2023, Adrian returned to live classes after surgery to correct a bone spur in his elbow, a reminder that even Peloton’s most visible instructors are not immune to the realities of recovery. That shared experience makes this particular comeback pairing feel fitting.
DJ John Michael also confirmed that additional rides and other content are on his schedule, and told members the playlist for his first class back would be “pretty incredible.”

Who Is DJ John Michael and Why Does the Community Care So Much
For members who may be newer to the platform, a quick background: DJ John Michael officially joined Peloton as Associate Producer of Music Programming following several appearances as DJ in residence for Live DJ Rides, and has grown into an integral part of Peloton’s music ecosystem, responsible for curating music for Live DJ Runs and Rides, Lanebreak, and Peloton’s previous All For One music festivals (among other ongoing behind the scenes work).
He is not a Peloton instructor by profession, but he is absolutely part of the family. His signature look, his music choices, and his ability to bring out the most fun side of whatever instructor he is working with have made him a consistent fan favorite. He recently celebrated 10 years with Peloton and debuted a new remix, marking another milestone in a tenure that has only grown in scope and visibility.
DJJM Returns and the Platform Is Better for It
The fact that DJJM returns after this kind of injury, having held it together through a full live class while in pain and without members realizing what was happening, says something about his commitment to the platform and the people on it. His message to members was clear: he is grateful for the concern, he is cleared to come back, and he cannot wait to see everyone.
