The Rise of Cardi B

Born Belcalis Almanzar in New York City and raised in the Bronx, Cardi B’s journey to stardom is inspirational. Initially gaining notoriety as an exotic dancer, she leveraged her charisma and talent to break into the mainstream as a reality star on VH1’s ‘Love & Hip-Hop: New York’ in 2015. However, it was clear from the start that Cardi was destined for more than just reality TV fame.

From Reality Star to Hip-Hop Royalty

Cardi B’s musical debut came with her feature on Shaggy’s “Boom Boom” remix in 2015, setting the stage for what would become a meteoric rise in the hip-hop industry. She released three mixtapes, honing her craft and building a loyal fanbase, before unveiling her debut studio album, ‘Invasion of Privacy,’ in April 2018. The album’s success was undeniable, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Its lead single, “Bodak Yellow,” became an anthem, reigning atop the Hot 100 for three weeks and capturing Grammy nominations for best rap song and best rap performance.

Breaking Barriers and Setting Records

Cardi B’s impact on the music industry was solidified in February 2019 when ‘Invasion of Privacy’ won the Grammy for Best Rap Album, making her the first solo female artist to achieve this feat. Her groundbreaking win not only highlighted her undeniable talent but also broke longstanding barriers in the traditionally male-dominated rap genre.
