Peloton instructor Matt Wilpers is opening up his training log again, and this time a footwear brand is coming along for the ride. Matt Wilpers NYC Marathon Training is officially underway, with Zappos signing on as his official footwear partner for the buildup to his third New York City Marathon. The 2026 TCS New York City Marathon takes place November 1, and Wilpers plans to document the full training cycle in the months leading up to it.

Team Wilpers Powers the Matt Wilpers NYC Marathon Training Plan

The coaching behind this cycle comes from Team Wilpers, the platform Wilpers founded to help athletes train with purpose. The program combines personalized coaching, structured training, and a community that connects members both online and in person. Wilpers has built Team Wilpers into a name recognized well beyond Peloton, with services spanning running, cycling, triathlon coaching, and bike fitting. This latest push folds Matt Wilpers NYC Marathon Training directly into that structure, with the added twist of sharing the process publicly instead of just the results.

Coach Justin Harris Leads a 16-Week Virtual Program

Leading the group effort is Justin Harris, Wilpers’ longtime running coach and a member of the Team Wilpers coaching staff. Harris is now heading the platform’s first-ever virtual marathon training program, a 16-week plan that began July 13 with more than 75 athletes from around the country. The Matt Wilpers NYC Marathon Training buildup runs parallel to that group program, giving Team Wilpers members a shared training calendar heading into race day.

Wilpers said he’ll use the next 16 weeks to share workouts, nutrition guidance, recovery tips, mindset strategies, and race week preparation. Those categories break down as:

  • Workouts: Weekly training sessions building toward race-day readiness
  • Nutrition: Fueling strategies for long runs and race day
  • Recovery: Managing training load and preventing injury
  • Mindset: Mental preparation for the marathon distance
  • Race Week Preparation: Final logistics and tapering guidance

Zappos Joins as Official Footwear Partner

Wilpers shared the news in an Instagram post marked as a paid partnership with Zappos, positioning the retailer as a resource for shoe and gear recommendations throughout the buildup. It’s an extension of a relationship that dates back to at least his 2024 Boston Marathon training. The Team Wilpers Zappos Partnership was introduced with a “Win the Day” campaign message, framing the retailer as ongoing support through the training cycle rather than a one-time sponsorship.

This won’t be Wilpers’ first trip down the New York City Marathon course. He ran the race in 2023 alongside a group of Peloton instructors and members, an event The Clip Out covered in detail at the time. Since then, his race calendar has only gotten busier. Wilpers completed his sixth Abbott World Marathon Major star at the 2026 London Marathon in April, made his HYROX debut in Miami Beach, and is set to race the IRONMAN 70.3 Mont-Tremblant in June. The Team Wilpers Zappos Partnership lands as the next entry in a year that’s already tested his range across running, triathlon, and hybrid racing.

What to Expect From Matt Wilpers NYC Marathon Training

Wilpers said the content is meant for a wide audience, whether someone is running the New York City Marathon this year, considering marathon training for the first time, or simply following along from home. Matt Wilpers NYC Marathon Training will unfold in real time over the coming months, with the closest look coming through his Instagram as November 1 approaches.

The 16-week window puts the bulk of the heavy training load across late summer and early fall, with race week landing right as outdoor conditions in New York City typically cool into marathon-friendly territory. For a program built around transparency, the real test will be whether the workouts, recovery notes, and gear picks Wilpers shares translate into a strong showing when he lines up at the start in Staten Island this November.
