A Hidden Gem: Peloton Boxing
The Boxing Collection You Have Been Scrolling Past a Hidden Gem on the Platform
If you have been sleeping on Peloton shadow boxing, you are not alone, but you are missing out. Tucked inside the cardio category, the Peloton shadow boxing hidden gems collection is one of the most underutilized and rewarding corners of the entire platform. With 301 classes and a roster of five talented instructors, this collection offers something for every fitness level, and zero equipment is required to get started.
What Is Shadow Boxing?
Shadow boxing is the practice of moving through the same six punches you would throw in a traditional boxing setup, including a jab, a cross, a left hook, a right hook, a left uppercut, and a right uppercut, all without hitting anything or anyone. As Peloton instructor Rad Lopez describes it, shadow boxing means practicing punches, defensive movements, footwork, and other martial arts techniques without having an opponent in front of you.
It is a full-body workout that uses punches, hooks, kicks, and jabs, looking much like sparring with an imaginary rival, without hitting a bag with gloves, mitts, or pads. You move, you breathe, you sweat, and you leave feeling like you handled whatever the day threw at you.
Classes in the collection range from 10 to 30 minutes and are broken down by difficulty level: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. The structure of the classes typically includes a warmup, multiple three-minute rounds of boxing, and a one-minute active recovery after each round. Some classes are themed around specific musical artists or genres, like hip hop and pop punk, making them feel more like a party than a workout.
Who Are the Shadow Boxing Instructors?
The boxing roster currently includes five instructors, each bringing a unique background and energy to the format.
Rad Lopez was one of the original boxing instructors when Peloton launched its shadow boxing content in December 2021. When Rad joined the Peloton family in 2021, his boxing background was well known, making him a natural fit to teach boxing. His classes are high-energy and technique-focused, and he has been a consistent voice in the collection ever since.
Selena Samuela is a former boxer, and it shows in every class she teaches. Her classes are always challenging and kick members’ butts in a good way, while helping them realize just how strong they actually are. Selena brings a physical toughness to her shadow boxing classes that makes them particularly satisfying to complete.
Jermaine Johnson joined the boxing roster in March 2022, expanding the lineup. Jermaine holds the distinction of being the first UK-based coach to teach boxing classes on the platform. Both primarily teach running and strength content as well, which means their boxing classes carry a well-rounded athletic perspective that complements members who cross-train.
Back in 2022, Becs Gentry filmed a few classes that are still available and if you were a Kendall Toole fan, there a slew of her boxing classes left on the platform.
Why Peloton Shadow Boxing Classes Are A True Hidden Gem
The “hidden gem” label fits for a simple reason: most members never find these classes because they are not riding a Bike or running on a Tread when they stumble across the cardio filter. But if you dig in, here is what you find:
- It Is a Full-Body Cardio Workout with No Equipment. Shadow boxing delivers serious cardiovascular benefits while building coordination and full-body strength, and you need zero equipment and very little space to do it. For members who want a meaningful cardio session that does not involve the Bike or Tread, this collection fills that gap beautifully.
- It Is Genuinely Good for Your Heart. Shadowboxing sessions can be divided into 30 minutes on most days of the week to achieve cardiovascular benefit, according to Dr. Amar Shere, a non-invasive cardiologist at Atlantic Health System. The interval structure of rounds and active recovery mirrors HIIT principles, which helps train your heart to recover quickly between bouts of effort.
- It Builds Coordination and Body Awareness. Shadow boxing enhances agility and coordination through dynamic movements and reflex training, and sharpens mental focus and clarity through intense concentration. Unlike steady-state cardio, every combination forces your brain and body to work together, making it as much a mental workout as a physical one.
- It Is a Powerful Stress Reliever. Beyond the positive benefits of aerobic exercise such as the release of endorphins, shadow boxing can help to alleviate stress and frustration, because sometimes you just need to throw a hook. Members consistently report that boxing classes deliver an emotional release that other modalities simply cannot replicate.
- It Works Well for Injury Recovery and Modifications. Because there is no impact or resistance involved, shadow boxing can be one of the most accessible formats for members managing injuries. Since it involves no bags, no pads, and no impact, members have full control over how intense they go and can slow movements down to really lengthen arm and back muscles. Always check with your healthcare provider before starting a new exercise program, especially if you are managing a health condition.
How to Use Shadow Boxing as a Fitness Tool
One of the best things about this hidden gem collection is how versatile it is inside a broader fitness plan. Here are a few practical ways to use it:
- As a Cardio Day Substitute. On days when the Bike or Tread does not appeal, a 20 or 30-minute shadow boxing class checks the cardio box without requiring a single machine. It is perfect for travel, rest-day-adjacent movement, or simply mixing things up.
- As a Warmup. The 10-minute classes are ideal for getting the heart rate up and loosening the upper body before a strength session. These shorter classes can be used as a warmup or cool-down to another type of Peloton workout.
- As a Cross-Training Tool. Runners and cyclists often neglect upper-body coordination and core rotation. Shadow boxing addresses both. Shadow boxing is dynamic and multi-planar, building functional speed and coordination that weights alone cannot replicate.
- As a Mental Reset. The rhythmic nature of shadow boxing can be incredibly meditative, making it a great workout for those days when you are overwhelmed with negative emotions. Think of it as therapy you can do in your living room.
- With Light Dumbbells for Extra Intensity. Rad Lopez notes that if you want to add resistance, only use one to two pound dumbbells, maybe three at most, because with consistent punching you will feel the burn while strengthening your back, arms, shoulders, and core simultaneously.
Where to Find This Hidden Gem Collection
To access the shadow boxing collection, open your Peloton app or device, navigate to Cardio, and filter by class type to find Shadowboxing. New classes have been added periodically, with drops from Rad, Selena, and Jermaine appearing throughout 2026.
