Self-Growth Starts From Within: A New Message From Andy Speer

Self-growth is the focus of Peloton instructor Andy Speer’s newest Instagram carousel, which argues that no change of routine, job, or location can replace inner work. The eight-slide post opens with a hot take, “You can’t just reinvent yourself,” and builds toward a personal story about what he found when he stopped trying to outrun his own insecurities.

Andy Speer’s Shift Toward Mental Health Messaging

Andy joined Peloton in 2018 and is known for his Total Strength classes, the TS60 program, and Tread Bootcamp workouts. A former competitive gymnast and pole vaulter, he co-founded Soho Strength Lab before bringing his coaching approach to the platform.

In recent months, his posts have moved beyond technique cues and programming. The Clip Out covered his message on rewiring negative thoughts in Andy Speer Wants You to Master Self-Talk, and he has also spoken about brain health and Alzheimer’s. Where the self-talk post focused on how he speaks to himself, this self-growth post focuses on what he does about it.

Self-Growth Means Turning Inward

In his caption, Andy wrote that you don’t find yourself by running. You build yourself by doing the work. He noted that you can change your routine, your environment, your job, and your relationships, but you cannot run from yourself, and at some point you have to turn inward.

He also described self-growth as uncomfortable. It takes self-awareness, discipline, healing, and a willingness to face the parts of yourself you would rather avoid. He closed the caption with a direct question for followers: What are you ready to stop running from?

From a College Fresh Start to Hiding Behind the Exterior

The slides tell the story in Andy’s own words. When choosing a college, he wanted to go far from home so he could reinvent himself, because he did not want to be the same person. At first, it felt like a fresh start. He began lifting weights, gained some muscle, joined a fraternity, and built a community on the track field and off it.

Underneath, he was still fighting insecurities around self-esteem and self-confidence, and each day felt like another battle. His conclusion was that you follow yourself wherever you go. For years he had hidden behind the exterior while overlooking the interior, so he started working on it. That self-growth message is the turning point of the carousel.

Putting In the Work for Self-Growth

The final slides shift from his story to a broader reminder. Andy compares the process to any relationship: if you want it to last, you have to work on it. He knew that a healthy relationship with himself required the same effort.

He adds that everyone carries some inner conflict, and sorting it out can take years. You do not need all the answers now, but in time the work pays off. The last slide lands on a simple line: in the end, you are worth the work.

Coming from an instructor whose classes are built on repetition and patience, the framing fits. Self-growth is presented as a long-term practice, and the answers do not have to arrive all at once.

About the Author: Liz Nikol (#JustAskForHelp)

My daily therapy is provided by Peloton and I truly believe that movement is medicine. I don't discriminate - bike, tread, yoga, strength, pilates and a ton of meditation. By day, I am a psychotherapist and director of a large counseling center in NJ. I am particularly passionate about women's mental health, especially in midlife. By night, I am a mom to 2 dachshunds and a scruffy mutt and wife to a chiropractor that keeps us all moving (yes, that includes the dogs!). Besides Peloton, I am obsessed with hard rock (think Octane on Sirius), Law and Order everything and a good thriller. Find me on the Peloton leaderboard at #JustAskForHelp.
