Peloton’s Artist Series Featuring Laufey

This May, Peloton is kicking off Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in a melodious manner—by featuring the Grammy winning artist Laufey in its first Artist Series of the month. On Thursday, May 2, at 6:30 PM ET, Members are invited to immerse themselves in a unique 30-minute Yoga Flow class. Guided by Anna Greenberg, this session promises an enveloping experience where music and movement merge seamlessly, all set to the enchanting, smooth jazz sounds of Laufey.

A Journey Through Music and Cultures

Before becoming a prominent name among jazz enthusiasts and TikTok users, Laufey embarked on her musical voyage on televised stages such as “Iceland’s Got Talent” and “The Voice Iceland.” Her passion for music led her to the prestigious Berklee College of Music, setting the stage for a promising career ahead. The chords of her life are deeply rooted in an eclectic cultural background, being the progeny of a Chinese mother and an Icelandic father. Raised in the cities of Reykjavik and Washington, D.C., her childhood was a symphony of influences, with a world-class violinist for a mother and a grandfather who tutored the instrument back in China.

Redefining Jazz for the Modern Era

Laufey’s ascent in the music industry during the unforeseen global lockdown showcased her ingenuity; turning isolation into inspiration, she began crafting songs that resonated with audiences far and wide on social media, especially TikTok. Critics and musical organizations, including Billboard and National Public Radio, have heralded Laufey as a trailblazer for jazz in the contemporary music landscape. Her sophomore album, Bewitched, was hailed for its sophisticated composition and refreshing interpretation of jazz, earning it widespread acclaim. It also won her a Grammy at the 66th Annual Awards for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.

Join Anna on the mat this Thursday, May 2 for a 30-minute Yoga Flow featuring the smooth jazz sounds of Laufey.

Described as a modern-day embodiment of Norah Jones, Laufey bridges generations through her artistry. Her approach to music brings the timeless appeal of classic jazz to the digital age, making it accessible and appealing to younger audiences—many of whom are discovering the genre’s rich legacy for the first time. “The music I make has older inspirations but the lyrics are very modern,” Laufey explains.
