Peloton Out of Class High Fives are rolling out, giving Members a new way to cheer on friends without joining a class. The feature builds on the high five Peloton Members already use on the Leaderboard, moving the interaction to the home screen and the mobile app so encouragement can happen any time of day.

How Peloton Out of Class High Fives Work

Members can send a high five directly from their connected fitness device by tapping the “Here Now” popover on the home screen, which surfaces a row of friends working out at that moment. The same option lives in the Peloton app, under the Here Now feature on the Community tab, so Members without hardware nearby can still send a boost from a phone. Neither option requires opening a class or scrolling through the Leaderboard, which is the biggest shift from how high fives have worked until now.

The rollout applies across Peloton’s full workout library, not just cycling. Whether a Member’s routine centers on Strength, Row, Pilates, Yoga, Meditation, Cardio, Stretching, Outdoor classes, or the Bike and Tread, Peloton Out of Class High Fives work the same way regardless of which class type a Member prefers.

Push Notifications Prompt High Fives for Milestones

Peloton Out of Class High Fives push notifications for birthdays and workout streaks

Peloton will also send push notifications nudging Members to send a high five when a friend hits a personal marker. Example alerts include a friend’s birthday, a milestone such as 25 Strength workouts, or a 10 day workout streak. Tapping the notification opens the Here Now feature directly and lets a Member send the high five in a single tap, without navigating into the app first.

The Bigger Picture Behind Peloton Out of Class High Fives

Peloton has leaned on the high five as a core piece of its community features since introducing it on the Leaderboard, and later added live high fives from instructors in 2024. Moving the interaction out of class removes its biggest limitation. Members previously had to be actively taking a class at the same moment to send or receive one. For a closer look at how the Leaderboard’s Here Now view has worked up to this point, see The Clip Out’s Leaderboard guide, or Peloton’s own rundown of its community tools.

Peloton says the goal of Peloton Out of Class High Fives is to fuel accountability, build daily momentum, and let Members celebrate wins together, extending a feature that started on the Leaderboard into something that works throughout the day rather than only during a 45 minute class.

As Peloton continues to expand the Here Now feature, Peloton Out of Class High Fives point to a broader shift, one where checking in on a friend’s progress does not require taking the same class at the same time.
