Matt Wilpers Half Ironman: He Conquers Mont-Tremblant on June 21, 2026
Matt Wilpers has his next target. Just days after finishing the 2026 TCS London Marathon and claiming his Six Star Finisher medal, the Peloton Power Zone instructor announced during a live class that his year-long training plan has a new race on the horizon: the IRONMAN 70.3 Mont-Tremblant, scheduled for June 21, 2026 in Quebec, Canada. The Matt Wilpers half Ironman announcement continues a 2026 race calendar that has been one of busiest of any Peloton instructor this year so far. But would he have it any other way? Nope.

The London Marathon Was Just the Beginning
Mat crossed the finish line of the 2026 TCS London Marathon on April 26 in a time of 2:58:25, completing one of distance running’s most coveted milestones. The finish earned him his sixth Abbott World Marathon Major star, closing out a years-long journey through Tokyo, Berlin, Chicago, Boston, and New York City. TCO’s full London Marathon recap is here. And let’t not forget this was hot on the heels of his first HYROX appearance in early April!
Back in the saddle just days after the marathon, Wilpers shared the Mont-Tremblant news with his community during a live Power Zone class, framing the announcement in the scope of having races on the calendar, one of his favorite topics. For anyone following his unofficial 2026 periodization roadmap, the timing tracks: he reiterated the month-by-month periodization plan covering the rest of the year, with June identified as the first peak month, focused on threshold, VO2, and a little anaerobic capacity. What the Race Involves
An IRONMAN 70.3, also known as a Half Ironman, covers a total distance of 70.3 miles: a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride, and a 13.1-mile run. The Mont-Tremblant course is set in the Laurentides region of Quebec, Canada, and is widely regarded as one of the most scenic in the IRONMAN circuit. The race website says:
Take on the journey to triathlon bliss in Mont-Tremblant, where natures beauty and adventure await. Explore one of the most remarkable resorts in Canada that has left athletes with memories from start to finish for over 10 years. This epic journey begins with a 1.2 mile swim in the clean water of Lac Tremblant, situated between mountain ridges, that’ll leave athletes feeling refreshed before their 56 mile rolling cruise on closed roads with minimal turns. The out and back 13.1 mile is mostly shaded with smooth rollers that’ll end with an unforgettable fanfare finish in the heart of the Mont-Tremblant Village.

A Return to His Roots in Triathlon
The Matt Wilpers half Ironman announcement is not a debut. Triathlon is a long-standing part of his athletic identity. He is a 2:54 marathoner, a 1:17 half marathoner, and a 10:38 Ironman triathlete, a multi-sport background built over many years of structured, goal-oriented racing.
On the 70.3 side, Matt achieved a personal best at the Ironman Maine 70.3 competition in July 2023. TCO covered his buildup to that race here. The following year, he finished another Ironman event in Geneva, NY on July 13, 2024, working through hot temperatures with heavy hydration, ice, and race-day nutrition to get it done.
Matt was also behind the popular “Peloton Tri” Collection of classes in 2025. We spotlighted these in our year in review “Naughty or Nice” list as they were very popular with members!
Why The Matt Wilpers Half Marathon News Fits the Plan
Matt’s core coaching message is that structured goals are what turn training workouts from abstract to actionable. He does not simply say that. He builds his own race calendar around it and invites his community along. The Matt Wilpers half Ironman at Mont-Tremblant is the next proof point in a year designed to demonstrate exactly that. For anyone inspired to sign up, the race is full, but the waitlist at ironman.com is open.
