Matt Wilpers Daily Routine Offers a Joyful, Smart Blueprint
Matt Wilpers Daily Routine Reveals an Inspiring 5 AM Start
A Zappos feature follows the Peloton instructor from 5 a.m. coffee to evening email, with room for Duolingo, a skateboard commute and Train Hard, Train Smart and Always Have Fun.
The Matt Wilpers daily routine starts at 5 a.m. with coffee he set up the night before, and a new Zappos feature maps out the hours that follow. With the TCS New York City Marathon set for November 1, it also shows how a Peloton Tread instructor and running coach fits his own training into a full day.

The piece, titled A Day in the Life of Your Marathon Expert: Matt Wilpers, was published October 7 on The Footnote by Zappos. Zappos is the official footwear partner for Wilpers, a paid partnership that dates back to at least his 2024 Boston Marathon training.
A Quiet Start to the Matt Wilpers Daily Routine
The day begins with cranberry nut bread, nut butter and The Wall Street Journal. Matt keeps the house quiet so his wife and one-year-old son can sleep. At 5:30 a.m., when teaching, he rides an electric skateboard to Peloton Studios New York, and he switches to an Uber on rainy days.
He arrives at 5:45 a.m., catches up with teammates in the green room and teaches his early class. By 7:30 a.m., he is home with groceries, checking in with the nanny and his son, walking the dog and completing one to three Duolingo Mandarin lessons. He has mentioned the language habit before, and it fits a routine built on small, repeatable steps. Matt is private about much of his personal life (remember his wedding and baby announcements, surprise!), so the details here offer a rare look that will satisfy those of us who feel that personal connection to him and his coaching.

Training, Planning and Recovery by Midday
From 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the Matt Wilpers daily routine changes by the day. Depending on the week, it can include strength workouts, meetings, filming or a photoshoot. He class plans and works on those Saturday long ride playlists that we know and love.
At 3:30 p.m. on this day in the article, he skateboards to SoHo for a weekly 4 p.m. physical therapy appointment, very important for his health. From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., the focus is family: dog and baby duties, dinner and bedtime. After that, he works through email, sometimes until 9 p.m. or later. Fans know he’s an early-to-bed / early-to-rise-r!
Consistency Over Perfection
The life and training advice in the feature stays practical. Matt recommends finding time for the long run first, then working backward from there, and he stresses that consistency matters more than perfection. In his work with his Team Wilpers coaching company, where he also works with his own coach directly, he models the kind of training he encourages from all of us at home.

For members who follow him from marathon builds to everyday training, the Matt Wilpers daily routine answers a fair question: how does he show up for so many people? The answer in the piece is structure with room for fun. That lines up with his mantra of Train Hard, Train Smart and Always Have Fun, from strength sessions and a long-run-first plan to Mandarin lessons and a skateboard commute.
Race day is November 1. Until then, the Matt Wilpers daily routine offers a template members can borrow on any schedule, one early start, one planned long run and one small habit at a time.
He is also competing this weekend (October 10, 2026) in HYROX Boston, his second appearance and his first in Singles. That’s one way to keep it fresh, as he always advises!
