HiLit+ Training: Essential Pre-Workout Fueling Tips
Peloton nutritionist Dr. Jaime Schehr is helping members fine-tune their approach to HiLit+ training, using the program’s member-facing teams chat to field real questions about pre-workout fueling.
Peloton Teams let members connect directly in the Peloton App, working toward shared goals or competing in challenges with a group. Official Teams take that a step further, offering curated groups led by Peloton instructors and experts, with challenges and conversations shaped to keep members engaged. Schehr posted her fueling guidance directly to the HiLit+ Team feed.
Last week, Schehr addressed a topic that comes up often among HiLit+ training members: why strength days can leave people hungrier than usual. She explained that lifting draws on glycogen, the body’s stored carbohydrates, which need to be replenished afterward. Eating carbs before a workout, she noted, improves both energy and performance. For members who train early and struggle to eat beforehand, she offered an alternative: loading up on carbs the night before instead.
Schehr’s overall message was that fueling decisions do not need to be complicated, but they should be intentional. Small, consistent choices add up over time, building on earlier nutrition tips for HiLit Plus she shared with Rebecca Kennedy on protein and portion sizing.
Go-To Pre-Workout Snacks for HiLit+ Training
She followed her explanation with a list of specific pre-workout options members can try during HiLit+ training: fruit and yogurt, oats and honey, toast with nut butter, rice cakes with hummus, and avocado toast.
The post drew significant engagement in the chat, with more than 180 reactions and dozens of comments. Members shared their own pre-workout staples and asked Schehr follow-up questions, several of which she answered directly.
As HiLit+ training continues to build out its community features, this kind of direct, practical guidance from Schehr is likely to become a bigger part of the member experience.
