New Christian Vande Velde Warm Up Ride is First 20-Minute Option on Peloton

A new 20-minute class joined Peloton’s warm up library on July 10, and the timing lines up with a busy stretch for CVV both on and off the bike.

There’s a new Christian Vande Velde has a Warm Up Ride on the Peloton platform, and it’s the longest one he’s ever recorded (or anyone has – in the Peloton library!). A 20-minute Pro Cyclist: Warm Up Ride quietly went live overnight, on Friday, July 10 at 12:00 AM, and it’s currently the only 20-minute entry in the entire Warm Up class type.

About the New Christian Vande Velde Warm Up Ride

Warm Up Rides on Peloton have historically clustered at the short end of the scale, five and ten minutes, built to get a rider’s legs moving before a longer session. The new Christian Vande Velde Warm Up Ride breaks that pattern by a wide margin. At 20 minutes, it’s four times the length of the platform’s most common Warm Up option, and it arrived without any advance promotion.

How the Warm Up Library Breaks Down by Length

A quick filter of the Warm Up class type shows just how unusual this release is. At 5 minutes, the library holds 379 classes. At 10 minutes, that number drops to 137. At 15 minutes, there are currently zero Warm Up classes available. At 20 minutes, there is exactly one, the new Christian Vande Velde warm up ride release. The jump from “nothing” at 15 minutes straight to a single 20-minute class is the kind of gap that tends to signal something new is being tested rather than simply added to rotation.

Why Longer Warm Ups Matter

There’s real physiological reasoning behind a longer runway before a hard effort. The American Heart Association notes that a proper warm up widens blood vessels and raises muscle temperature, which improves flexibility and efficiency once the harder work begins. That matches something Matt Wilpers says often on his own rides: he doesn’t consider himself fully warmed up until he’s roughly halfway through a ride. It’s also baked into the Power Zone class structure itself, which is built around a gradual, extended ramp into working zones rather than a quick spike, precisely because sustained aerobic effort responds better to a longer buildup than a short one. And let’s not forget that “mind-muscle connection!”

Could this Be a Preview of Something to Come?

A 20-minute warm up is an unexpected thing to release on its own unless it’s meant to pair with something bigger. Given that Vande Velde has a documented pattern of long-format Power Zone Endurance rides with Matt Wilpers, and his own Pro Cyclist classes (more than 100 currently On Demand), it’s worth wondering whether this new class is a setup for another extended ride landing soon on the Peloton schedule. Nothing has been confirmed, but the timing and the length both point in that direction.

Off the Bike and Onto the Moto

While Peloton members wait to see what this new Warm Up Ride is setting up, Vande Velde is deep into his other job. He’s currently reporting live from the Tour de France for NBC Sports, a role he’s held since 2014 as part of the network’s cycling broadcast team. According to NBC Sports, Vande Velde works this year’s race from the ground alongside play-by-play announcer Phil Liggett and analyst Bob Roll, providing commentary from inside the race itself rather than from a studio. A Sports Video Group report on NBC’s production detailed how Vande Velde reports from a moving motorcycle equipped with Starlink connectivity, giving viewers a view of road conditions, weather, and team tactics that fixed cameras can’t capture.

Even Matt Wilpers couldn’t resist a playful jab, noting on his live Power Zone Endurance class from 7/10/26 that Christian seems to be doing the “easiest job in the world” right now, riding on this motorcycle. From Team Leader to Power Zone Instructor and the Real Routes In Between

Vande Velde’s credibility on both sides of this story, the Peloton bike and the Tour de France broadcast, comes from a professional cycling career that spanned 1998 to 2013. He rode the Tour de France 11 times, finished 7th overall in 2009, and spent years as a top-tier team leader before retiring. On Peloton, that background shaped his Pro Cyclist series, which has long served as the platform’s bridge between recreational riders and the training methods used at cycling’s highest level. His Power Zone classes carry that same authority, built on real race preparation.

For now, the Christian Vande Velde Warm Up Ride stands alone as the only 20-minute class of its kind. Will a related, longer Tour-focused ride be the next Real Routes? We can’t wait to find out!
