Norwegian 4×4 Method Powers Becs Gentry’s New Tread Series
Becs Gentry Builds a Four-Class Progression Around the Norwegian 4×4 Method

The Norwegian 4×4 Method is the backbone of a new unofficial four-class Tread progression from Becs Gentry, with each session raising the incline a notch higher than the last. Peloton members who complete all four workouts move from a 2 percent grade in the first class to 5 percent by the fourth, following the same interval structure each time.
Gentry’s 60 minute Intervals Run classes are scheduled roughly one month apart, landing on Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. ET (6:30 a.m. PT). The series began May 9 and continues through June 20, July 11 and August 1, giving members a full training block to work toward the toughest version of the workout.
What Is the Norwegian 4×4 Method?
The Norwegian 4×4 Method is a training protocol built around four hard efforts of four minutes each, separated by three minute recovery periods. Sports scientists developed the approach to push the body near its aerobic ceiling for longer stretches than typical high intensity interval training, and it has become a popular tool among runners, cyclists and rowers looking to raise their VO2 max, according to PureGym’s training guide.
Inside Gentry’s Norwegian 4×4 Method Progression
Each class in the series follows the same shape. After a warmup, members complete five one minute tune-ups at a challenging effort on a 2 percent incline, with equal recovery on flat ground between each. Around 27 minutes into class, Gentry moves into the main set: four rounds of four minutes at a hard pace on incline, with three minute recovery periods at an easy pace on flat ground. The class closes with a one minute push at a very hard effort on flat ground, three minutes easy, and a one minute recovery cooldown.

Gentry isn’t the only instructor running this format. Logan Aldridge has multiple 30 minute Interval Run classes in the Peloton library built on the same 4×4 structure, including sessions on June 15 and August 3 at 6:30 a.m. ET (3:30 a.m. PT).
The defining feature of these Becs Gentry Tread classes is the incline progression itself. Class 1 holds the main set incline steady at 2 percent throughout, and Class 4 raises it to 5 percent. Gentry has told members that running on incline is one of the clearest ways to build real strength, a message that plays out directly across the four weeks.
Why Gentry Built This Progression
Gentry has leaned into hill work across her Tread classes in recent months, a pattern that lines up with her own trail racing season. She opened 2026 with a win at the Napa Valley Trail Marathon and finished the Speedgoat 50K at Snowbird in July, one of the toughest 50 kilometer courses in the country. Climb-heavy training blocks like this Norwegian 4×4 Method series give everyday Tread members a taste of the same demands Gentry has been training for herself.
Members who want the full effect should work through the four classes in order rather than picking dates at random. Gentry has also pointed members toward her Strength for Runners program to build the single leg strength, glutes and hamstrings that carry a stride through fatigue, a companion to the endurance gains built through the incline intervals.
