crystal: Welcome to the clip out episode four 60. This is Crystal O’Keefe.

tom: And this is Tom O’Keefe. Is this the third time, fourth time?

crystal: I think it’s the fourth time

tom: that they’ve dug up our yard in the last what year?

crystal: Yeah, it is. Yeah, it is because, uh, we had somebody come through and put in fiber,

tom: which is great.

We subscribe to it

crystal: instantly.

tom: And so we have symmetrical broadband. One gig up, one [00:01:00] gig down. It’s

crystal: great.

tom: It’s been great. So

crystal: love it.

tom: Thank you. I three

crystal: and then our water,

tom: our

crystal: water pipe had some kind of weird leak in it, right. So we had to dig it up for that.

tom: So they dug up our yard again.

crystal: Right.

tom: And then, um,

crystal: at and t came through and they put in

tom: fiber.

’cause then they have to compete with the new fiber company.

crystal: Yeah.

tom: So they dug up our yard and then put in.

crystal: The worst grass seeds.

tom: Like this is such a middle aged, suburban thing to complain about. It’s, yeah, I, I’ve officially turned into my parents except I still talk to myself. They don’t talk to each other.

I mean, they’re both dead now. I was

crystal: like, well,

tom: even before, even before the dying, they didn’t talk to each other. I used to always say My parents are happily married to other people. Um, but they put in the worst grass seed. Ever known to man,

crystal: never seen anything like

tom: it. It’s, I mean, it’s just like a chromosome click away from being a weed.

crystal: It basically is a weed, I don’t know

tom: what, [00:02:00] and it grows like eight times as fast as the rest of the grass.

crystal: It just looks like giant weeds. Yeah. I, I spent like two hours this week just pulling all of the quote unquote grass outta the, like, the long grass. It’s like, it’s awful. It’s awful. And uh, and then they came through this week and did all these stupid digging up flags again, because the people in the neighborhood across the street apparently are putting in a pool.

Good for them.

tom: And their PE and their pool installation team hit something.

crystal: And so, and made everybody freak out and think it was gas, which I mean, glad people are paying attention for sure. You know? But then they had to like do it all over again, so they start

tom: digging again.

crystal: My god. Yeah. Like, I’m just so tired of it.

I’m so tired of it.

tom: And then of course, the homicide department came in and started digging up our backyard because always thinking I’m a serial killer.

crystal: No, that didn’t happen. Stop telling people that, that’s terrible.

tom: I’m like, no, I, we just watch a lot of id. That’s all [00:03:00] we watch a lot of forensic files. It is be, we watch a show that’s on HBO Max called signs of soc of a Social Psychopath.

Psychopath. I can never remember. ’cause it used to be psychopath and now they say sociopath. And I think there’s technically a difference, but when they’re stabbing you in the throat,

crystal: You just know it’s bad.

tom: You’re not really caught up in the subtleties.

crystal: That’s true.

tom: Um, but there’s 10 seasons of it and we’re almost done.

Yep.

crystal: That happened.

tom: So. You sociopaths out there

crystal: or psychopaths?

tom: No. Sneaking up on us. We know all the signs

crystal: now. Well, we’ve been married to a couple of them, so,

tom: so we are safe as kittens

crystal: except what they already did to our lives

tom: and what psychopaths sometimes do to kittens.

crystal: That’s true. You

tom: know, that’s true.

Well, that’s one of the signs.

crystal: That is one of the signs,

tom: so we know.

crystal: Yeah.

tom: So this has been a real day brightener thus far.

crystal: Yeah. What,

tom: uh,

crystal: maybe we should talk about something else.

tom: What pray towel do you have in store for people?

crystal: Well, [00:04:00] uh, a little bit of a gear shift. We’re gonna go into Peloton topics.

tom: Okay.

crystal: And I was

tom: say, or we’re gonna mutilate non kittens.

crystal: Well, we are not mutilating any kittens.

tom: Is that the gear shifting going on?

crystal: There’s no, we here, there’s a lot of, uh, stuff going on in the upper echelon of Peloton.

tom: Not echelon,

crystal: no. God, I can’t believe I just said that. Now I have to redo it.

tom: The upper ranks.

crystal: The upper ranks, yes. The C-suite.

tom: Yes.

crystal: The executive team.

tom: The Nordic zone. No. Can we answer that? Sorry. No. Okay.

crystal: So we’ve got a New York Times profile on Peter Stern. We’re gonna cover, we’ve got insights from the new CMO Megan embrace. Uh, we are also going to talk about the new general manager of apparel and, uh, we’re gonna briefly cover some things that people have to say to her.

’cause people have opinions.

tom: Oh goodness.

crystal: And she asked for them. So we’ll get into that.

tom: Okay. Well, at least she invited it.

crystal: She did. Uh, there was also, um, a change at the global product safety, ethics and compliance. That person has moved on. We’re gonna talk about where [00:05:00] we’ve got a recap of at the next Peloton, at the next table featuring Maddie and Olivia.

tom: Okay.

crystal: Uh, we also have the, uh, event schedule for the upcoming London Marathon. The recent ride metrics and issues Peloton has been having, plus a new one that dropped overnight. Uh, we also have, um, what’s going on at, uh, the London studios. They had a very interesting event we’re gonna talk about and a reminder of the closure in London.

Gotcha. This

tom: week. That should clear everything up for people.

crystal: Yeah. Not to mention, we’ve got lots of instructor news. Who’s going to High Rocks soon? Who is going to be at a FIBO event? Maybe I’m not saying it correctly. Elizabeth gave me a lot of crap last week because apparently it reminded her of FSBO when I said fibo.

I think. But there’s gonna be some instructors there. We are also gonna talk about the latest instructor to be getting a new certification. Mm-hmm. We are gonna be talking about one of the instructors who’s going to be hosting [00:06:00] an after party in Puerto Rico who is no longer teaching a Backstreet Boys ride and over training risks.

We’ve got a celebrity sighting, a big one.

tom: A big one.

crystal: Oh my word. And then lots of content to cover as well.

tom: Awesome. Well, before we get to all that shameless plugs, don’t forget Reveal on Apple Podcast, Spotify iHeart. Tune in wherever you find a podcast. You can find us while you were there. Be sure and follow us so you never miss an episode.

Maybe leave us a review. If you just can’t get enough of us, there is more of us.

crystal: There

tom: is, uh, you can find us over on patreon patreon.com/the clip out where, for a poultry $5 a month. No inflation over there. No $5 a month. You get ad free episodes, you get all sorts of bonus content and you get early episodes.

And most importantly, our undying love and affection.

crystal: Undying.

tom: Yes.

crystal: Yeah.

tom: And we have, uh, a [00:07:00] new bonus episode every week.

crystal: We do

tom: every week. It’s, yeah.

crystal: Sometimes you get bonus bonuses. We have one coming soon.

tom: We do have one in the hopper.

crystal: Yep.

tom: Which should be dropping very, very soon. Mm-hmm. Uh, so that, that week you’ll get two.

crystal: Mm-hmm.

tom: Isn’t that exciting? And then, uh, it’s actually, but it’s lots of extra stuff.

crystal: Yeah.

tom: If that’s your jam.

crystal: Yep.

tom: So come on in. Seven day free trials. If you haven’t done it that part yet, you can download a bunch and listen to ’em, and then you can bail.

crystal: That’s true.

tom: Great. You, you can listen to a bunch and be like out,

crystal: well, that’s what you wanna do.

tom: That’s what you wanna do. Like, but it’s an option. But I’m suggesting it ’cause I’m hoping that you’ll forget. That’s how it works. A little subscription. Then five years from now, we’ll do an ad for Rocket Money and you’ll run that and you’ll be like, I’m still paying Pat Paton for the club out. What,

crystal: what, what, what?

tom: Yeah. So it’s like a snake eating its tail.

crystal: It’s

tom: the cycle of promotional life. You can also find us on Facebook, facebook.com/the clip out While you’re there. I like the page, join the group. Don’t forget, uh, you [00:08:00] can sign up for our [email protected] where you will get a mostly weekly newsletter.

Just a recap of things that have gone on in the week, a reminder that we exist. And then of course, you can watch all of these over on the [email protected]. Slash the clip out. So there’s all that. Let’s dig in. Shall we?

crystal: We shall, but I have a question.

tom: Oh, dear.

crystal: Well, I had a situation happen with Spotify this week.

They sent me a thing to fill out a survey.

tom: Okay.

crystal: And they wanted to know how we use it within, uh, it was Spotify for creators. Mm-hmm. And I’m curious if you would like me to tell this story here, or on bonus?

tom: I don’t know what the story is.

crystal: I know. So I’ll, I’ll briefly tell it.

tom: Okay.

crystal: And you can say, we, we do it over on bonus, or we do it here.

We can get into it here. But, um, they sent me a survey and they wanted to know how their services as a hosting platform like. As a creator platform. Mm-hmm. Compared to other services. And I was like, you suck. And they [00:09:00] got really granular and I completely ripped them a new one. Oh wow. They think they’re so special over there.

Yeah. They like offer video and stuff and I’m like, this isn’t helping me. Do you realize that I have to just go and do more things? Yeah. Like the last thing I wanna go do is more things. Yeah. Like, not all of us have somebody paying the bills. Right. For all of this. Some of us actually do this work ourselves and you do not cater to those people.

Yeah. So stop trying to act like you do.

tom: And also, I know Spotify likes to talk about video. I’ve no idea where to go to find it. I’ve

crystal: never, you can go to the podcast, whatever podcast page. Yeah. And if they load it, you’ll be able to see it. I but most people don’t do it because it’s an extra step.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: Like freaking link it to YouTube. If you wanna make my life easier and you want me to use your shit Yeah. Then make it easier.

tom: But that’s a competitor

crystal: I know. So

they’re

tom: not gonna do that.

crystal: Well but then don’t, don’t act like you’re doing so much for me ’cause you’re not. Yeah. Like,

tom: well, and also I’ve never heard.

Anybody in my life say I watched that video on Spotify.

crystal: No. They’re trying to make it a thing.

tom: No, for [00:10:00] sure. But like,

crystal: but it’s not a thing.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: They also act like the fact that you can give people polls and you can put comments on Spotify is like some kind of huge thing that they’ve done. First of all, you’re just copying off of YouTube.

Yeah. Which, you know, whatever, uh, everybody just copies everybody else these days instead of actually having new ideas. But, but at the same time, like, I don’t see how you think this is so special. And so one of their questions, and it made me think of it when you were doing the shameless plugs, is what platform do you plug the most?

And I was like, our website.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: We push everybody there and they’re like, why? What do you mean? Why, why would I push ’em to you? Right. I, I literally said, I know you want the clicks, but that’s my point. You care about you not the actual creator. Right. So stop acting like you’re doing something for me.

tom: Why aren’t you generating revenue for us?

crystal: Yeah. What Like last I, last I checked, we pay for all this. Why would I send them your way? Yeah. Like if people are already there, great. You know, nothing. [00:11:00] Whatever.

tom: Yeah. It’s, yeah. But

crystal: I was just really surprised by the whole thing and it’s like, I think somebody over there really thinks they’re like amazing.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: And they have no clue how the real world works when you don’t have some, like a producer Right. And a, and all this stuff happening for you. Yeah. And you are those people. And I was just really,

tom: when you’re not part of Wondery.

crystal: Yeah. Yeah. It’s for real. I was really surprised at how out of touch with like.

An indie podcast. They are.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: They have no clue.

tom: None. And at the end of the day, that is the bulk of podcasts, right? Like

crystal: it is, like most of them. The, the podcast that started out where we started out, most of them have died off. Yeah. Or, or they just do really small, like, I don’t mean like their content is small.

That’s not what I’m saying. But they don’t, they don’t try to get themselves out there anymore because it’s such a, it’s such a game. Yeah. Like it’s, it’s, it has become so saturated. It’s changed so much. It’s just a fascinating change in the niche. If you’ll, it’s,

tom: it’s so, uh,

crystal: that’s why I wasn’t sure if you wanted to cover it in bonus.

tom: Oh, [00:12:00] that’s, we did it now.

crystal: Yep. There it is.

tom: Wanna dig in?

crystal: We shall. There

tom: we go.

crystal: That was for you, Tim Shaughnessy.

tom: The New York Times, profiled Peloton, CEO, Peter Stern.

crystal: They did, yeah. And they I’m not really sure what instigated this article, if it’s because of like, the recent thing that came out from Bloomberg where they really hit on, you know, the long-term strategy of Peloton. Mm-hmm. Things like that. Or if they legit just went to Peloton and were like, we would like to, to, you know, talk to Peter Stern.

I’m not sure. Yeah. But, uh, their, their point about this article is that Peter Stern is definitely trying to make the point that Peloton is not just a bike company. I feel like that is a really big hill to climb.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: And you have people in the Peloton community that don’t want that to be true.

It’s really interesting [00:13:00] because in another article we’ll get to later, when we were talking about apparel and like marketing, this guy replies and he’s like, I just want bike classes. I don’t want all this other stuff. Yeah. That’s what I want. And I was like. But they’re not a bike company

tom: and

crystal: like, and they haven’t been in years

tom: and then, then just don’t use that stuff.

crystal: Oh. But he doesn’t wanna have to pay for it.

tom: It’s like, I don’t,

crystal: doesn’t wanna see it. He doesn’t want to talk about it. He doesn’t wanna pay for it.

tom: I don’t want, I mean, I don’t, no, nobody’s really going to McDonald’s for salads, but they still got ’em. It,

crystal: that’s a great analogy. Yeah. I, I think it kind of comes back to there’s a lot of people that just no longer have critical thinking skills.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: That the algorithm serves you. And

tom: that’s what I was gonna say. The algorithm has broken people’s brains where they’re so used to the for you page, right? Mm-hmm. Everything’s tailored to what they want. That when they don’t, when they see something that isn’t necessarily applicable to them, they lose their goddamn minds.

crystal: Yeah. I’ve had a lot of conversations around that this week. Just different things that people think should be away. [00:14:00] Yeah. ’cause it, ’cause it’s best for them, but like. It’s not about you. Yeah. Like Pelotons not just here for you. No company is just here for you. Right, right. Like the world isn’t here for you.

Like the universe doesn’t exist for you, but people have gotten so myopic that they, that’s all they can see. Yeah. And I’m having this conversation a lot. So, um, anyway, it was interesting to hear that like they think that’s their big thing that, uh, you know, it’s going into a wellness and it’s not just a bike company.

It’s all these things. And it is, that’s true. I would argue that happened long before Peter Stern.

tom: Yeah. I mean, you were, you were the third CEO to try to make that point.

crystal: Yes.

tom: So far nobody’s pulled it off,

crystal: but, and the other interesting thing is that he reached out to the headhunter and made the pitch directly and called it his dream job.

So he went after this job.

tom: Interesting.

crystal: That is interesting.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: I would call that. The Jen Sherman technique.

tom: Yeah, but does he drink water from the [00:15:00] faucet in his hands?

crystal: No. Well, he didn’t report it, but John Foley got a lot of shit for it. So maybe, yeah, maybe he was like, no, I better not do that. I do think that Peter Stern and lots of other executives at Peloton need to do more of these interviews.

They need to be in front of the people. You know? You are in this report that the New York Times came out with. It’s all about like what he’s gonna do and how he loves Peloton and yada yada, yada. And I’m sure all that’s true. Yeah. But like, get in front of the people, then that’s how you connect with them.

tom: This is like, I think most major companies, the users don’t care who the CEO is. I

crystal: would agree.

tom: Peloton is not one of those companies. There’s a handful of companies where I think a good chunk of the users do care and pay attention to the CEO O like Disney Yep. Is one of them.

crystal: Yep.

tom: Right. But like I drink.

Plenty of Coke Zero every day.

crystal: I have no idea who the CEO

tom: e is, no idea who the CEO

crystal: EO of is. But I do know who the CEO of, of Disney is, and I do know who the CEO O of Peloton is. So, to your [00:16:00] point yeah,

tom: that’s

crystal: true.

tom: So I, I think doing these sorts of interviews is good.

crystal: Yeah, I agree. I agree. I

think

crystal: they need to do more.

tom: I will allow it. Peter Stern.

crystal: Oh, thank goodness. Yeah. He was really worried.

tom: I could tell,

crystal: you know,

tom: I could tell I was reading between the lines of the New York Times. I could tell he was concerned. So I just wanna let him know. Go in peace. My son.

crystal: The other thing is, is that, uh, Peter Stern has basically brought in an entire new C-suite.

So that’s, that’s interesting. And it will be, it will play itself out. Yeah. Where all this goes. But he has brought in almost the entire team is new. Not necessarily the board, but the people who are managing me every day.

tom: Right.

crystal: So I am curious to see where that goes as well.

tom: Peloton, cmo.

crystal: Yes.

tom: The M stands for marketing.

crystal: Very good.

tom: Megan, embrace. Am I saying that right?

crystal: We say embrace

tom: Megan. Mm-hmm.

crystal: It’s definitely Megan.

tom: Okay.

crystal: Yeah.

tom: Megan?

crystal: No, I’m sure there are Megan’s out there though. Yeah.

tom: She was at South by Southwest. Is [00:17:00] that still going on?

crystal: No. Okay. This is but we wanted to cover this for a couple of reasons.

We, there was actually, um, female Quotient posted this interview. Yeah. And so we were able to actually listen to it, though we weren’t there. And, uh, we thought this was interesting because it had a bunch of female they were all from their marketing teams, like at the, at the head of their marketing teams.

Mm-hmm. But it was companies like Peloton, but also zoom and there, there were a bunch of them. Heavy hitters. Yes. Heavy hitters. I can’t remember all of them. But yeah. So it was interesting to hear how they approach things and, and it, the conversation really had a lot to do with the speed of culture and how things will happen.

Maybe Zoom gets mentioned, like on a TV show and how Zoom might respond to that or not respond to that. That was what the conversation was about, right? Like how companies are now, you know, blobbing on to that, for lack of a, a better term. Right? They’re using it to their [00:18:00] advantage. And um, so, uh, there were lots of these women, I think it was like eight different companies represented all by women and they were talking about this, but this is the piece that stood out the most to me.

Um, and that because companies are choosing these moments, they are redefining their brand strategy by doing this. Yeah. And I think it’s interesting because there are some companies like, like Wendy’s or I know there’s a shoe company that does it. There’s lots of companies that will make comments on.

Things, they’re really paying attention and

tom: yeah. They’ll interact as the brand

crystal: Yes.

tom: On online.

crystal: Now Peloton doesn’t do that. Yeah. Nor do they claim to in this conversation. But, um,

tom: well, and Wendy’s has a very unique snarky voice

crystal: and I love it.

tom: Oh, they should hire me. I’d be really good at

crystal: it. You would be really good at, it’d be really good at it.

You might be too good.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: But yeah, no, you’d be awesome at that. I, uh, I feel like though, uh, this was the part of this conversation that did [00:19:00] bother me mm-hmm. For lack, and I’ve said lack of a better term, like three times now, but, um, it did bother me a, a smidge because Megan embrace brought up the fact that when Travis and his brother, whichever, whatever his name is, Kelsey Yeah.

They have that podcast. They had, it

tom: was, uh, Travis and not Travis,

crystal: right?

tom: Yes.

crystal: And although he is legit famous

tom: No, for sure. People are yelling at their

crystal: I know phones right now. I know. We just don’t do sports. Okay. You’re lucky. I know Travis Kelsey. Yeah. And I know I live in Missouri. It doesn’t matter. Yeah.

tom: It’s the other side of the state.

crystal: So when they had a Peloton featured on the show and it was like in the background Megan was, she was like, we got a lot of people saying, oh, we should sponsor the show. And she was like, and we didn’t wanna chase that because that would make us not be as, as it would lose our dignity, our validation.

But they’re not

tom: leaders in the

crystal: space. Yeah because we, we paid for it. And [00:20:00] she was like, so we chose not to do that. And I was so confused by that statement because if you go back and you watch, it literally says Peloton. Whatever the name of their podcast is. Yeah. Like it’s, it’s literally sponsored by.

So I was super confused by that. I thought it was a really odd comment that she made and then to then lead into like this week’s biggest story, the Hudson guy from Yeah. Heated rivalry. You are chasing the culture. Yeah. You are leaning into it. And by the way, that’s the right call

tom: for sure. Like, we’re not against it.

crystal: No.

tom: It’s just weird to like,

crystal: it was

tom: do it, but say you’re not.

crystal: Yeah. Yeah. I, I just thought the whole thing was really strange, but that was my takeaway from the conversation, how, how odd it was. But it was really fascinating to listen to all of these female leaders talk about it and they really think it’s funny, like in a good way whenever they get mentioned and then they will bring it up.

Like, you sent me a tweet the other day from a company who talked about the pit [00:21:00] and no spoilers, but there was a character. It was from Lyft.

tom: Oh, okay.

crystal: Lyft responded to the famous situation that occurred on Pitt right this week. This past week. And for people who haven’t watched, ’cause it’s still pretty close to the end.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: Uh, I don’t wanna give any spoilers, but they responded to it. Yeah. And in, in such a great, funny, powerful way that’s chasing culture, right? That’s marketing at the speed of culture.

tom: It’s also engaging with culture.

crystal: Oh, totally.

tom: Right. Like yeah. You know, this is a very popular show. They get a mention, they Yeah.

They engage with it.

crystal: Absolutely.

tom: Like that seems smart to me.

crystal: It absolutely does. And, and, and I just wanna say, Megan, embrace wasn’t saying not to do that. She was just saying, you gotta be careful that like it’s the right time to do it. Yeah. That was her point. I just don’t think that she made the point as well as she could have given that they did sponsor that show.

Right. Yeah that’s all I was trying to say. But um, but I find it interesting that companies are doing this,

tom: so Absolutely. So we have a new general manager [00:22:00] of apparel and accessories. And I can tell this must be a a, a lower position because if it was a higher position, it would be general manager apparel.

Accessories.

crystal: Well, it would also, it would say general manager, vp, like they would add another label in there. There they

tom: take out all the ofs and ands.

crystal: Absolutely. Absolutely. I

tom: don’t know why that is.

crystal: I don’t either. But, uh, Samantha Storch Malloy took over this role in March and she is posting, Hey, I wanna know what members look for in workout gear.

And I think she posted this on LinkedIn, but, um, listen, Samantha, we watch these things. Yeah. And so. She says, whether you’re a longtime Peloton member or just starting out, what are you wearing to work out? I wanna know what makes you feel best when you move. Now she got 27 comments on her LinkedIn and we got 27 comments in about 10 seconds.

People had so many passionate responses. Yeah. To this like. It was bring back the [00:23:00] cute stuff, bring back the tank tops, pockets. They had one woman that was like stood out among every woman ever and was like, no pockets ever. And the whole internet gave her side eye.

tom: I’ve

crystal: never

tom: heard a woman say that.

crystal: Me either. That was the first and um, and then there were just all these people that had all these things, like more plus sizes stuff for tall women. Like it was just on and on and on and on and on. I mean, I was shocked at how, like it was just a throwaway article. Yeah. That was just like, Hey, this is kind of interesting.

People went nuts. Yeah. For it. Nuts, I tell you. And people are sending her direct messages and apparently she has her Instagram shut down so she can’t even see it. Right. But like, like people are like really passionate. She has opened a can of worms. I do not think she meant to open.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: Yeah.

tom: Well, good luck to you.

crystal: Yeah. Sort through that.

tom: Yes. Coming up after this, we got more Peloton news. We’re gonna talk about a recap of at the next table, the latest [00:24:00] episode of that. We’re gonna talk about what was going on at the London Marathon, and we have details on the I-L-P-A-E-M-E-A. I have no idea what that means. That’s okay.

I feel like I should say old McDonald had a farm, but we will deal with that right after this.

tom: So the former global editor, so the former head of Global Product Safety, ethics and Compliance. That’s a mouthful.

crystal: I know.

tom: Has a new job.

crystal: He does. He has now joined the Potomac Law Group as a partner in the consumer product safety and regulatory practice. They, um, just made this announcement on April 13th.

Mm-hmm. So it just happened. Um, and, uh, while he was at Peloton, he led the global compliance and risk program. He oversaw internal investigation and whistleblower processes and [00:25:00] advised executive leadership. He focused on product safety ethics, and regulatory compliance matters. Now at Potomac, he’s going to be working with Fortune 100 multinational organizations to help them navigate the complex regulatory environments and design government regulatory compliance programs that I, I have to say, that sounds like the most boring job.

tom: I

crystal: You have to have a special personality.

tom: Yeah. I assume whenever I hear something. That sounds that boring. I’m like, it must pay really well.

crystal: I bet it does.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: Oh yeah, totally.

tom: When you’re doing something that snooze inducing

crystal: mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

tom: In snoozing.

crystal: I also, uh, thought it was interesting that he cited several reasons for joining this firm.

tom: Mm-hmm.

crystal: The opportunity to transition his in-house expertise to broader clients with multiple companies. Reconnecting with John Moss, a former colleague and mentor from Winston and str, LLP and [00:26:00]Potomacs distributed legal services model, which offers competitive rates while maintaining high quality legal services.

Hashtag not an ad. Right. But the interesting thing that he doesn’t mention is his wife, Gina Del Negro, also works at Potomac Law Group in the firm’s employment law practice. So

tom: saving a little money on the carpooling.

crystal: I mean, it’s a win-win. I just thought it was funny that that wasn’t on his reasons for joining the firm.

tom: Times are tight. I get it. I get it.

crystal: Well, good luck to him.

tom: Episode three of, at the Next Table has dropped. It features Maddie Mamo and Olivia Amato.

crystal: It does. How many of these do you think they’re gonna have? I

tom: don’t know. How would I know?

crystal: I don’t know. Uh, so yeah the, what’s different about these?

Well, there were three instructors at each of the first two mm-hmm. Episodes. One was the girls. One was the boys. Right. And now we have Maddie and Olivia now. Maddie and Olivia have a special relationship. They always have.

tom: Okay.

crystal: They kind of have a brother sister [00:27:00] vibe going on and they have, since they very first started at Peloton.

Um, I personally love these two together. I think they’re just really adorable. Yeah. I love the way they tease each other and, uh, they also like to play pranks on other instructors together. They do that. It’s known, it’s a thing and everybody enjoys it. Well, maybe not everybody. Yeah. Publicly, everybody. I’m sure that’s not

tom: everyone claims to enjoy

crystal: it.

Right.

So, uh, as a reminder, you can find these on Pelotons YouTube channel. That’s the only place that they have put them so far.

tom: Okay.

The London Marathon is almost upon us, and the event schedule for Peloton has been. Revealed.

crystal: Yeah, it’s pretty, pretty packed. There’s gonna be a fireside chat called Beyond the Pavement that’s gonna have Matt Wilber’s, Jocelyn Thompson Rule, Hannah Frankston, and of course anybody from the community who is able to come.

Uh, it’s gonna be about a 45 minute discussion. There’s gonna be a q and a that they [00:28:00] are going to talk about cross training, and you’ll be able to answer those. Uh, you’ll be able to ask questions you pre-submit during the registration. So if you haven’t registered yet, first of all, it’s probably gone, but second of all, if it is still you put your questions in.

Yeah. So be prepared if you’re going in. Uh, there’s also a, uh, Peloton and Asian Girls Run. It’s a 5K shakeout that is gonna be on Friday. It’s, um, going to have, Matt Wiler is gonna be leading. It’s complimentary, so it’s free. And this is going to be just a general shakeout get ready for Sunday’s marathon.

There is also, yes, there’s still more, oh, going to be a cheer zone at mile 25. So this is gonna be, um, at 9:00 AM. 10:30 AM I’m not quite sure why. There’s two. It says I think that they’re, they’re just getting people there. Yeah. Because it says doors open at nine, so I think they’re getting people there.

Right. And then the cheering starts at 10 30, so it’s gonna be mile 25 runner’s left Riverside. And, uh, there’s gonna be a [00:29:00] sign making station complimentary coffees at PSL and then of course the cheering. And that’s always really, really fun. The instructors usually can’t stay for the entire thing. So like, if you’re one of the fast people, you’re probably gonna get to see ’em.

But if not, you should do one of these other things. Yeah. So that you can, uh, then there’s gonna be a post race celebration. This is gonna be Monday and Tuesday, 10 to five 30. It’s gonna be at the studio. There’s go, they’re going to have metal engraving. That’s the first time Pelotons ever done that. Oh

tom: really?

crystal: Uh, heat press that I know of.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: They certainly did not do that for the New York City Marathon when I was there. Right. Because I would’ve had my medal engraved for sure.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: They have apparel discount, prize competition and photo moments. And uh, yeah, it says for the first time at PSL runners can have their marathon medal engraved complimentary on site.

So that’s really nice. Those aren’t all day. So you got 10 30 to 1232 to five 30. Those are when you get your metals engraved. And then you can also do the, uh, heat press. This is cool because you can go in and buy apparel and then get different [00:30:00] custom things. Oh, cool. Put on your apparel. Oh, I did do that.

tom: New board game, things like that.

crystal: I did do that in New York. Yeah. And then you get 26.2% off, get it.

tom: Oh, I see.

crystal: Yeah. And then of course you can win prizes. So, um, they have a leader, a tread base competition where you can walk or run as close to exactly 400 meters as fast as possible to spin the prize wheel.

The target distance is hidden, so you can’t see it on your right. So you gotta guess

tom: it’s like how good it you were. At gauging.

crystal: Yeah. Yeah, exactly. So lots of fun stuff at London. In London this year. And uh, that’s really cool. I hope everybody has a great time.

tom: So there were some ride metrics issues.

crystal: Boy we’re there.

tom: What was going on?

crystal: Well, it’s still going on. Um, now they have started rolling out the fix, but it not, it, it takes a long time to roll out a fix to 7 million people. So like, it’s gonna take a minute, but, uh, this is the 15th, so maybe by the time this airs, it’ll be out. But what was going on is that people would get on, let’s say the bike or the [00:31:00] tread.

This could happen to any of the equipment. Mm-hmm. And the metrics would just say zero across the board, no matter what you did. Or maybe you couldn’t see. It would start off showing it and then it halfway through the class, it would just all go to zeros. Yeah. Couldn’t see your resistance, couldn’t see your speed, couldn’t see anything.

Yeah. You’re just flying blind. You have no idea what’s happening. And so the, the thing about this that’s different and the reason we bothered to write an article, ’cause we usually don’t when it’s just like a one-off.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: People have been reporting this for over a month and it took Peloton that long to officially announce it and like officially roll out a fix, which is kind of fascinating to us because typically it doesn’t take that long for something to, you know, float up to the top and like Peloton to recognize this is an issue.

Um, it was, I mean, it was actually much longer than a month. It was like several months people had been talking about this. Right. But it, because it wasn’t everybody, it kind of got ignored and poo-pooed by customer service and that’s not a good thing. Yeah. So, but the important thing [00:32:00] is the fix is rolling out and hopefully by the time people hear this, it will be done and over with.

tom: Fingers crossed.

crystal: Yes.

tom: We have details on the ILPA forum, EMEA. That they utilize the Peloton Studios London for an event.

crystal: You’re like, I don’t know what is happening. How

tom: the hell does that? Is that like one of those like fancy uh, microbrew,

crystal: the Institutional Limited Partners Association? Uh, they are the ones that have the super fancy building in London.

tom: Oh

crystal: yeah. ‘

tom: cause there’s just one super fancy building in

crystal: Well, no, but it’s the one that looks like round and it’s like an egg.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: It’s, it’s pretty cool.

tom: You like she, you showed me a

crystal: picture. I did. Which people were watching. They saw it, but yeah. So, uh, they’re having their big event at Waldorf Hilton in London, but they also, um, had, they used Peloton to be able to have like an event and.

Be able to have conversations they used, the studio people went in, it was kind of similar to what they did with [00:33:00] the LL event.

tom: Okay.

crystal: Like it’s sponsored by, and they had a class for their people, but it was also different in that it wasn’t like all over social media, it was more of a private, quiet thing.

Right. So it was, it was interesting. Um, but worth noting because we’re seeing more and more things like this pop up. Yeah. And so, kind of fascinating

tom: for sure. Also before we wrap up this segment, it just a quick scheduling reminder that PSL will be closed. Well, right now.

crystal: Yeah. It’s closed right now.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: Hopefully. Well, not hopefully it’ll be open by the time you hear this, or I guess the next day after. Yeah. We drop it so,

tom: so

crystal: soon.

tom: Don’t go.

crystal: Yeah. But you know, um, I, you were supposed to the notes were supposed to have a thing that said what they were doing while they closed. Uh, it is going to be a.

Doing several things. They’re gonna be upgrading the studio with the latest lighting, video, and sound. All of that is going to be occurring now. They recently, just last week, had the PSNY closed for studio maintenance, [00:34:00] but PS NY didn’t list out all of the things that they updated. So we assume it’s the same,

tom: something comparable,

crystal: but

tom: who knows?

crystal: Who knows? Who knows?

tom: Okay. Ash Pryor and Benny Adami are both setting their sights on high rocks, but. Different high rocks.

crystal: Yeah. Um, so the important thing here is both Ash and Benny have recently been injured and gone through different things. So Benny realized he was on the brink of an injury and really hurting himself. So he took a step back.

Ash had surgery on her knee and was like, I need, she had to rehab ’cause she had surgery on her knee. Sure. And she’s currently building up, so they’re both gonna be at different High Rocks events. But they are both like, have them on the schedule. They’re ready to go. Benny will be at Berlin and I can’t remember what City Ash will be in.

Yeah. It might be New York, but there’s so many High Rocks events that I, I get ’em mixed up

tom: for sure.

Okay. So

crystal: my understanding though is [00:35:00] that Katie actually let this slip that Ash would be doing this again. Yes. I don’t think Ash was ready

tom: Yeah.

crystal: For that to happen.

tom: Whoops. A doodle.

crystal: Whoops. A doodle indeed. Yeah. But, uh, yeah, good luck to Benny and to Ash Pryor

tom: and stop telling Katie things.

That’s I think, the real takeaway here.

crystal: That’s, that the real takeaway.

tom: We buried the lead.

Eric Yeager and Jeffrey Tran will be attending FBO or fibo?

crystal: It depends on how you wanna say it. It’s a fit. Fibo, it’s a fitness expo. It’s gonna be in Cologne, Germany. Do you remember the gentleman we had on from the news station? He like covers all the fitness news in Germany. I do. He was like the very first person to ever get a tread.

He is going to this in Germany. Yes, in Germany, yeah. Thank you. And, uh, he’s going to let us know how this goes. Okay. I’m, I’m really excited about this. And uh, so yeah, Eric and Jeffrey are both gonna be there. They’re gonna be doing demonstrations on the different equipment that is there. And remember this is also important because it’s, again, pre-core and Peloton showing [00:36:00] off their new equipment.

So pretty cool that the instructors will be there. Uh, and it would be a good opportunity for people to stop by and meet the instructors if they haven’t.

tom: Uh, Greta Dopp is acquiring her breath work certification.

crystal: Yeah, it’s in progress.

tom: I can tell. I listen to Savage love too much. ’cause I was like, why are we talk?

Oh,

crystal: different breath

tom: work. That’s a different type of breath work

crystal: sometimes I learn a lot from you.

tom: Yeah.

Uh, we also have details about the me, myself, and I after party hosted by Camilla Ramon.

crystal: Yeah. Uh, this actually has already occurred. Okay. Uh, but we posted about it last week and I thought it was interesting that Camilla was gonna be hosting me, myself and I after party at bar 0.2 in San Juan.

And, uh, it was going to be from 9:00 PM to 1:00 AM. Who hangs out at these times.

tom: That’s why it’s an after party.

crystal: I am so [00:37:00] old

tom: you can’t do an after party at 6:00 PM That’s just the party.

crystal: I know. But you had to register to be able to go a capacity was obviously limited. I think this could be the first time I’ve ever seen an instructor do like an after party hosting thing.

And I really, I don’t recall this ever occurring and I wondered if it’s because she also is a singer and does music.

tom: Right.

crystal: And so this was like a cross, like it was cross promotional. Right. You know what I mean? Like Peloton, but also her amazing singing ability. Yeah. And like it’s in Puerto Rico and it’s like, I don’t know.

It seemed like a good crossover event.

tom: No, I think that’s a fair theory.

crystal: So I thought, I think it’s the first time. Yeah. But if anybody went I would love to hear Yeah. How it was I think it’s really cool.

tom: Yeah. ’cause you know what we call an after party sleeping because we are old.

crystal: If we made it to the end

tom: Yeah.

Allie Love was scheduled to teach a Backstreet Boys ride, and that is no more, not to mix metaphors, but it went bye bye bye.

crystal: Yeah, it [00:38:00] was on the 23rd and, uh, not happening.

tom: Okay. Just duly noted.

crystal: Yeah. No other details.

tom: None. Uh, Matt posted a reel discussing the risks of over training on, uh, something he does called reset.

crystal: Yeah. So we’ve been talking for several weeks now about how Peloton has the reset and at first we thought it was a posture program.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: And it was gonna be at lunchtime, but it’s not, it’s different instructors talking about different topics that are outside of what Peloton teaches. Right. And this is a great example about, uh, over training and, uh, I think it’s really an important topic because there are so many people in this community, God love ’em, they just work out.

Three to four times a day.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: Seven days a week.

tom: Well, you know, there is the mentality of like, you gotta push through, you gotta work harder. Absolutely. And like, and there’s some truth to that. There is, but there’s also times when that is not benefiting you

crystal: and I tend to see it more. I, I’m, this is not an [00:39:00] only thing, but I tend to see it more with endurance athletes.

Like Sure. Because they’re trying like more is better. Yeah. Is like the overwhelming

tom: Yeah.

crystal: Thought process. And it is to an extent, right? There is a lack of returns that you get over a

tom: certain point. Yeah. At some point it’s just a pathology.

crystal: One of the things to remember about. Yes. Uh, one of the things to remember about workouts is that the work that you’re doing is actually, your body processes it in the recovery.

That’s when you actually get the benefit from it. Right? So it’s really important to recover. And, uh, so anyway, Matt talks about what those signs are, how to spot ’em and what to do about it.

tom: Coming up after this, we got celebs in the news. We’re finally gonna talk about Hudson Williams. And so many people are waiting for, and we’ll cover all the content that you should be checking out after you get done. Checking out Hudson Williams.

tom: Peloton has debuted a new ad campaign featuring Hudson Williams [00:40:00] from heated rivalry. So for all the street boys, explain heated rivalry.

crystal: Uh, heated rivalry appears to be, I have not watched it. It’s about hockey and it’s about a rivalry that takes place on the ice. But behind the scenes, the boys that are involved in this rivalry also are in a relationship.

tom: So all the hockey matches get canceled because their steamy scenes melt the ice.

crystal: And I tell you what, for a bunch of straight women these women are nuts over this guy. Nuts over him. I mean, teenage girl, like watching Elvis Presley in the 1950s. I thought everybody was gonna faint when this ad came out.

I do not get it because I have not watched this show. Right. I don’t get what the big fuss is about, but I think that Peloton has hit on a good thing because Agreed. It is all everyone is talking about. Oh, I mean, everyone.

tom: It is red hot.

crystal: It is red [00:41:00] hot. Yeah. Yeah. I know that there was a lot of interaction a few weeks ago when we wrote an article about the hidden he heated rivalry classes.

Right. There are several classes that have heated rivalry music involved in them and theming and talking about them. We covered that in a topic. So it was really interesting to see that Peloton seized on this moment by, by bringing in Hudson Williams and bringing him into an ad campaign. The end, other interesting thing about it was, I, I don’t know that I’ve ever seen Peloton do this before on Monday.

They had a teaser for the ad dropping on Tuesday and everybody thought it was gonna be a class with him.

tom: Right.

crystal: Which then led to disappointment.

tom: Ah.

crystal: Because they thought it was gonna be a class with him. Right. So I don’t know what to make of that. Yeah. Or what to do with it because my brain doesn’t understand what any of the fuss is about anyway.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: So like all of it seems like way overkill to me. I mean, I’m glad for [00:42:00] Peloton.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: But like I don’t, I don’t get it.

tom: Hockey players love their Pelotons though.

crystal: They do.

tom: I feel like hockey players were one of the first professional athletes that we really saw.

crystal: And football players

tom: a lot of adopting of Peloton.

crystal: Yeah. Honestly, I think football players first because they could go really fast and their leg ’cause they’re so heavy. Right. ’cause I remember talking to a football player about this and he explained that like he’s so heavy that he can’t run. Like it’s too much impact on his bones, right? Yeah. To run, run, run.

And so being able to cycle was much easier on his joints. Yeah. I remember him saying that. I would assume there’s something similar happening with hockey players. Yeah. But uh, yeah, I mean, yeah,

tom: hockey players are probably not very adept at running because it’s a sport where. You don’t ever run. Mm-hmm.

Right, right. So like, you’re not,

crystal: and you’re heavy.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: Like it’s, it’s, it’s in your best interest like football to be a big person.

tom: Right.

crystal: Because you use that bulk to bump into people and knock ’em down and

tom: whatever, but you’re not training your body for those that sort of impact. [00:43:00] Right.

crystal: Exactly. Yeah. So it makes sense that both of them would be, um, any thoughts about this from a marketing perspective?

tom: I think it’s smart. I mean, this show super popular has a very passionate, no pun intended fan base. And so I think it makes total sense to, to seize on something like this.

crystal: I wonder if like the ad is just like part one and we’re gonna see Hudson Williams show up in something else. Like, I wonder if there’s gonna be something more to this.

tom: Yeah. Or if, because of the outcry. They’ll make a point to be like, okay, well let’s get him in studio.

crystal: Yeah.

tom: Especially ’cause if he actually is a Peloton user mm-hmm. Like the ad portrays so many of those people, they love to come in studio and hang out with their favorite instructor.

crystal: That’s true.

tom: You know, it’s Well,

crystal: and, and speaking of he got to do, well Tunde got to do the ad with him.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: Uh, she had posted a while back that there was like something she was working on and she had filmed and like it was all cryptic. ’cause of course she couldn’t say just yet. Right. So we’re assuming this was it, but she was actually in the commercial with [00:44:00] him. Adrian Williams shows up too, but only on the screen.

tom: Gotcha.

crystal: And, um, it was neat to see how they took him from the tread to do the, like the cross training to do the tread and then he hops off to do the strength workout with Tunde.

tom: Right.

crystal: It’s nice to see that all of the little things they’re seeding out there are coming together. And what I mean by that is this cross training, they’re really doubling down on.

Not only is Peloton, not just a bike company, but look at all the different things that you can do Right. With this equipment. And then showing that in the commercials. Yeah. That, that’s probably, I wouldn’t say the first time, but it’s, it’s with such a big person it definitely is notable. It’s a

tom: very high profile

crystal: mm-hmm.

tom: Venue in which to do that.

crystal: Exactly. Exactly.

tom: What’s the etiquette there? You’re standing in a studio with Tunde. She’s standing right there.

crystal: Yeah.

tom: And then you take an Adrian Williams class. Is

crystal: that, well, it wasn’t like that. It was, he did a, he did a run with Adrian, then he got off the tread to do the class with her in person.

Yeah. He

tom: just,

crystal: I [00:45:00] mean, I don’t think you should start a fight between those two. It’s

tom: a bad look

crystal: because Adrian and Tunde are both like superstars. Yeah. I don’t know that a person, I don’t know that a person could pick between those two. Yeah, that’d be tough.

tom: It’s, it was like when we were backstage at the Mr.

Science Theater riff tracks. First time ever. Which

crystal: one do you pick?

tom: Show and we’re backstage. There’s Joel, there’s Mike

crystal: across the room from each other.

tom: Now there’s Jonah.

crystal: Yeah.

tom: And I’m like,

crystal: who do we talk to?

tom: Who do we talk to?

crystal: Well, the answer is we start with Jonah. ’cause he’s the easiest to talk to.

tom: It was very easy to talk to.

And his stuff hadn’t come out yet, so

crystal: it

tom: was adorable. People were just like, whoever this guy is. Yeah. And we’re like, we’ll go. He was he. He was the equivalent of when we met Ben Aldis and Leanne at homecoming. Like nobody knew who they were yet, so nobody talked to him. So we’d stand there and talk to Jonah for like 20 minutes.

crystal: Yeah. Well he came down the line. Do you remember? We were waiting outside to get in and here he comes down the line and nobody knew who he was.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: We were like, Hey.

tom: Yeah, [00:46:00]

crystal: well,

tom: we’ll talk to you.

crystal: Yeah. It was really cute.

tom: it is time for the TCO top five. You told us your favorite classes. Now here they are. Number one, your favorite power zone endurance ride.

crystal: Okay, Sam. Yo. He’s back. 60 minutes of power zone endurance. It was an eighties class back, um, just this last week on April 11th, Sonya Norman nominated this class as usual.

His playlist programming and coaching were spot on. He called the Ride Legends are built here, and he carried the theme theme throughout the ride. His enthusiasm made the whole ride even with long zone three intervals. So enjoyable.

tom: Uh, number two, your favorite strength class.

crystal: Second week in a row that this was nominated.

tom: Mm-hmm

crystal: Zacharias 30 Minute Full Body Strength from April 7th. And he. Lena Kwan nominated this week. She said it was so good. Perfect amount of cardio mixed in. Great playlist. I don’t think he took a lot of breaks either, which really gets [00:47:00] me when instructors leave. Too much time between sets. It was my first class with him and I hope to see more.

I would agree with that. Don’t leave too much time.

tom: Yeah. Uh, number three, your favorite high intensity ride. Okay.

crystal: Two nominations this week. Goodness for this. Oh goodness. Uh, it was a 30 minute Hardstyle EDM ride from Benny on four 10. So Kevin Ramsey said awesome tempo, high intensity, and a great playlist to get the pins moving.

If you like a challenge. Benny is your man, Jesse k said for me, the best class was Hardstyle, EDM with Benny. If I achieve a new personal best, it’s usually in these classes, the music pushes you to the limit, makes you forget everything around you. If you’re ready to feel that energy join.

tom: Uh, number four, your favorite Imam strength.

crystal: Yes. Taught by Rebecca Kennedy. It was a 30 minute Justin Bieber full body. Jennifer Anderson said, I am not a be believer by any means, but I am a huge RK fan. And this class was amazing. The entire class was made up of Imams and the moves were simple, yet [00:48:00] effective. She needs more classes with this format.

tom: Okay, and then finally, your unst stackable. It is a strength challenge.

crystal: This was taught by Adrian Williams back in November of 24, 30 minutes. Glutes and legs strength now Ave Melling. Nominated this class and she said this class from Adrian from way back in November, 2024. It’s very lunch heavy and definitely like made me question my life choices.

Great class though.

tom: Taking a look at this week at Peloton, we have a live DJ run.

crystal: Okay. This is notable.

tom: Yes.

crystal: Because dj John Michael has been on hiatus. Mm-hmm. He has been healing from I believe it was a hip injury.

tom: Oh, I thought he had, uh, I thought he had a record scratch elbow.

crystal: Oh yeah. No,

tom: no,

crystal: no. I don’t think so.

tom: You get that from on the,

crystal: yeah.

tom: WA wca.

crystal: Well, at any rate, uh, we are so glad to see DJ John Michael back [00:49:00] and taking a, or co-teaching a live class with Adrian Williams. They always start off the energy, really great for the weekend. It’s awesome.

tom: We also have a, my Mix tape ride.

crystal: Yeah. It’s gonna be Sunday, April 19th at 10:00 AM Jen Sherman’s gonna be teaching it 45 minutes.

tom: There’s a Power 60 with Logan,

crystal: which is great for High Rocks training. So it’s a good if, if this is something, high Rocks is something you’re interested in. Full Body strength series, and it’s going to be on demand Tuesday, April 14th,

tom: and there’s daily breathing meditation, which I know I am not a medical professional, but I highly recommend daily breathing.

crystal: That’s good talk.

tom: Every day.

crystal: Every day.

tom: Regardless of what’s going on in my life, I breathe

crystal: well. I actually took this class today. Mm-hmm. I’ve been taking it all this week.

tom: Oh, is this the meditation I interrupted?

crystal: It is.

tom: Oh, look at it’s,

crystal: I got to the last, almost all of it. It was 10 minute meditation, so I made it eight minutes in.

I had to stop, but this is the third time I had taken it. It’s nice because what they do is these daily meditations, every week, every [00:50:00] month they focus on a different thing. This week it happened to be breathing and and so you. Focus on, uh, breathing, but you’re also doing like relaxation techniques and thinking and going inside yourself.

Mm-hmm. And thinking about it. Mm-hmm. And so it’s really nice. I really enjoyed this and I don’t see as many, I don’t feel like I end up seeing as many daily meditations from Anna, so it’s just kind of a nice ha breath of fresh air to see this,

tom: Taking a look at the radar. We’ve got live spring cross training plan.

crystal: Yeah. So we’ve been talking about this for a few weeks. It is live this week, every day at 5:30 AM well, okay. 6:30 AM Eastern. Right. It’s five 30 for us.

tom: Right.

crystal: But that’s when these classes go live. All through the week. So Monday through Friday you are gonna have a new class. And so some days it’s gonna be cardio, some days it’s gonna be core.

Some days it’s gonna be strength. And then if you weren’t able to take the class live, it goes on demand around 10 or 11:00 AM Eastern. Mm-hmm. And you were able to take the class then. [00:51:00] So this is, there’s going to be every Monday strength, every Tuesday you can ride or run or row Every Wednesday core.

Every Thursday you’re back in the strength. And then every Friday you have the option to ride, run, or row. So the idea here is to do this for four weeks in a row. Okay. And really get in shape and ready for spring with this nice breakout. So,

tom: okay. We, uh, have a di ride with Camille Ramon. I do not know what that is.

It is a style of music, an ultra fast dance genre from the Dominican Republic.

crystal: Interesting.

tom: And it’s taking over Latin pop with, its, with its unique sound according to a USA today article from 2023.

crystal: Well, this is her first class of this style since late 2024.

So it’s been a, it’s been a hot minute.

tom: There you go. It’s been a Caliente minute. Ha. See what you did there? We

crystal: do. Yeah.

tom: Johanna is back and she has all sorts of Pilates for people.

crystal: She does? Yeah. [00:52:00] It’s going to be, uh, two Pilates classes and two yoga plus Pilates classes, not to mention a sculpt flow. So she’s going to be teaching all of those classes between April 16th and 19th.

tom: And if you like Jeffrey McKean, but you don’t speak the German good news for you.

crystal: Yeah. He’s gonna have an English class on April 18th, and that is his latest in a while. So he only has 33 English runs total. Yeah. In the library

tom: Chelsea has. A neo soul flow.

crystal: Yeah. It’s going to be taking place on four 19 and uh, she hasn’t had this theme in, in a while, so this’ll be interesting to see. It’s also note it is advanced beginner, so it might be good for people who like to do the yoga but maybe aren’t feeling as confident to, you know, maybe taking a zacharias

tom: For

crystal: sure.

Advanced. Yeah. Start with an advanced yoga, advanced beginner.

tom: Milo Kin is back with a new ride type.

crystal: Yeah. Low impact and arms ride. There’s a couple interesting things about this. One that it’s [00:53:00] going to be in German and, uh, two, this is the first time we’ve seen a low impact and ride.

60 minutes long in German.

Isn’t that fascinating?

tom: Yeah.

And uh, Milo will also have an Earth Day walk for people.

crystal: She will, yeah. 4 21, it’s gonna be Earth Day, so she’s gonna be doing a 30 minute walk.

tom: We mentioned the Backstreet Boys earlier because Allie will not be teaching the class, but there are still lots of Backstreet Boys classes for people coming up.

crystal: Yeah. There’s gonna be a walk plus run with Jeffrey upper body with Marcel m uh, there’s gonna be a yoga flow with Mariana and a hike with Camila.

tom: There’s also the kettlebell challenge just around the corner.

crystal: Well, it’s here because it started four one. The interesting thing is

tom: corners go both ways.

crystal: Peloton said they were gonna be dropping these classes weekly. They haven’t dropped them. Yeah, there you go. It’s gonna make

tom: a challenge difficult,

crystal: right? Yeah. So we’re confused, but, okay,

tom: Susie Chan has her long run marathon [00:54:00] class coming up, and it’s a long one.

crystal: It’s a really long one, but this is actually a huge deal because we know that this run that she teased is gonna be dropping on April 24th. We also know that’s the day that the new marathon program drops, right? This is the longest.

Moderate run we’ve ever seen. Moderate pace for 135 minutes. Moderate, which means it’s part of a longer class. ’cause you don’t just jump in at moderate. Right. Which I’m thinking this could be our first three hour class.

tom: Oh wow.

crystal: Yeah. I don’t know that maybe it’s quote unquote only 150. I don’t know.

tom: Right.

crystal: But, uh, this is very exciting and it’s really cool because we’re gonna see this drop. Susie has been saying, she said it on this post, she said it in two different classes I’ve been in, that this is the longest program they’ve had. This has the most long runs of any program they’ve had. So if your marathon training, especially for the marathons coming up this fall, dropping April 24th, this is [00:55:00] going to be perfect for you.

There’s gonna be strength, there’s gonna be mobility, and really long. I am so excited for this program. I, it’s the first of its kind.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: And I, I have never seen Susie light up about a program the way she’s lighting up about this. This is a big deal.

tom: Well, hopefully it’s as long as you’re predicting, because I just know when you were training for a marathon, how, how desperate you were for longer classes.

’cause you have to be on the tread so long to train. So I’m sure that there are lots of people, ’cause people are always training for a marathon somewhere. There’s got, that’s right. There’s, I would think there’d be

crystal: a lot of people want the longer classes.

tom: Yeah. Not necessarily like an overwhelming demand, but I would think a sizable demand and a con consistently sizable demand.

crystal: Absolutely. No, people are always saying more long classes, especially for runners. I mean, I, I know that I’m a slow runner, so like, when I say a long class and like I, I get to the 18 miles, it’s like literally I could be out there for six, seven hours. But, um, for people like. That, [00:56:00] that are normal Pace runners, um, three hours is that for them.

tom: Right.

crystal: You know, so that, that covers that distance really, really well for a tremendous amount of people. And even if it doesn’t do the whole thing, stacking two classes like that is way easier than stack than, than stacking like seven classes, which is what I had to do. Right. So, this is just really cool.

The new program is gonna be called Pace Your Race, and I am really excited about this drop.

tom: The a hundred Day Challenge has wrapped up.

crystal: It has, yeah. A lot of people got their badge for a hundred days in a row. I did not make it. Uh, it’s, it’s, you have to do something every single day. Yeah. So it’s a, it’s a blue check, a blurple check mark every day for a hundred days.

A lot of people got it and we’re very excited about it. A lot of people missed it by one day or not. Yeah, that would suck. Yeah. Yeah. A lot of people sad about that.

tom: Yeah. We have details regarding the Peloton Studios. April Run Club. New York. Yep. New York.

crystal: For New York. Yeah. It’s gonna be happening on April 22nd at 5:15 PM It’s going to be a 5K walk plus run. And it is [00:57:00] going to be Becks Gentry teaching this one also, you’re going to be able to shop a curated selection of Anna Luis’s.

Sweat proof, tarnish proof water resistant jewelry. Perfect for your workout. Hashtag still not an ad.

tom: Well, not

crystal: not from us,

tom: not on our part in any anyway.

crystal: No we got nothing outta that.

tom: Yes. Other than joy.

crystal: Other than

tom: the pure joy, the joy of helping out. And finally, uh, we have a zone two training collection.

crystal: Yes. And, uh, I feel like this is, this is worth mentioning because for people who have been part of the Peloton world for a long time,

tom: yes.

crystal: You will remember heart rate zone training. From none other than Stephen Little.

tom: And people lost their minds when he,

crystal: he lost

tom: parted ways because the people were so into heart rate zone training.

crystal: Yes. And then yes, it was bigger than power zone training. Oh God. At the time. Yeah. Because power zone training started right around Stephen Little’s departure. Right. It started before [00:58:00] he left. Yeah. But yeah. But heart rate zone training had already gotten huge, uh, within the Peloton community. So, um, Christine tried to keep it going, but, uh, it, one person, it was just kind of tough to keep up all the different kinds of classes.

Right. You need to take, uh, now this is notable because it’s only zone two. Gotcha. It is not all of the heart rate zones. It is. Only zone two, two. And I think the momentum behind it is different. There are a lot of studies right now that people are citing, especially for women, that say that zone two is like where it’s at.

Mm-hmm. To get your training and to, like, you don’t wanna overtrain your heart, yada, yada. Right. So this is everywhere right now. And I think that’s the actual driver behind this. I don’t think it’s like a new movement to bring heart rate zone turning back. Right. And I, I just feel it’s important for people to know the difference.

Yeah. Between the two. Also, for those of you who do power zone and you have no idea what I’m talking about, this is not zone two of power zone. Right? It could be a zone two for some people but it’s not necessarily a zone two and it is not the same as [00:59:00] zone four. Like whenever he says, keep it even momentum, that is not this, that’s not the same.

tom: Right.

crystal: You cannot compare apples to apples with heart rate, zone and power zone. In fact, if you wanna get really into this conversation. Episode two with Matt Wilber’s. Actually, it might’ve been episode one gets into this deep dive because we talk about heart zone versus power zone. Yeah. ’cause I didn’t understand at all anything about any of this back then.

Right. And we had a very long conversation about it in that episode.

tom: So it’s out there

crystal: it is. Dad a dig. Yes. But it’s there.

tom: Well, there are no instructors birthdays this week. So that brings this episode to a close. Until next time, where can people find you?
