UK Black History Month Classes: 8 Powerful Ways to Celebrate
UK Black History Month Classes Return With 8 Great Options
Peloton lines up eight classes across Cycling, Strength, Walking, Stretching, and Pilates from October 1 through October 23.
Peloton has eight UK Black History Month classes on the schedule from October 1 through October 23, 2026, covering Cycling, Strength, Walking, Stretching, and Pilates. The lineup opened on Thursday, October 1 with a Strength class that put Hannah Frankson and Jermaine Johnson on the mat together. Fun!
Every title carries the UK BHM label, a return to the naming Peloton used in 2021 after several years of different class names. Peloton describes the month as a moving celebration of Black culture, with classes inspired by resilient communities and set to enduring music.
The UK Black History Month Classes Schedule
The first of the UK Black History Month classes is available now. 30 min UK BHM: Two for One Strength pairs Hannah Frankson and Jermaine Johnson, and it arrived On Demand at 12 AM ET (5 AM BST) on Thursday, October 1. We know PSL loves their Two-for-Ones and how exciting to see Hannah on the mat with JJ!
Three more UK Black History Month classes arrive before the middle of the month. Leanne Hainsby-Alldis leads the 20 min UK BHM: R&B Ride on Monday, October 5 at 7 AM ET (12 PM BST). Cliff Dwenger teaches the 30 min UK BHM: Afrobeats Ride on Friday, October 9 at 5:30 PM BST (6:30 PM CEST). Ben Alldis leads the 15 min UK BHM: Soul Full Body Stretch, available On Demand on Tuesday, October 13 at 12 AM ET (5 AM BST).
More UK Black History Month Classes Arrive October 17 Through 23
Hannah Frankson returns for the 30 min UK BHM: 2000s Ride on Saturday, October 17 at 5 AM ET (10 AM BST). The next day, Joslyn Thompson Rule leads the 20 min UK BHM: Pop Walk on Sunday, October 18 at 7 AM ET (12 PM BST).
Notably, on Friday, October 23, Ally Love teaches the 30 min UK BHM: Dance Music Ride at 2 PM ET (7 PM BST) – yes, Ally is teaching at PSL! Johanna Ricouz also leads the 20 min UK BHM: Pilates that day, available On Demand at 12 AM ET (5 AM BST).
Together, the UK Black History Month classes include four Cycling classes alongside Strength, Stretching, Walking, and Pilates, so members can find a class in the format they already use. Most titles point to a genre of music, from R&B and Afrobeats to Soul, 2000s, Pop, and Dance Music.
How UK Black History Month Differs From the US Version
UK Black History Month has been held every October since 1987. It was founded by Akyaaba Addai-Sebo, a Ghanaian-born special projects officer at the Greater London Council, who drew inspiration from the American observance. Two reasons are commonly given for the October timing. October is when African chiefs and leaders traditionally gather to settle differences, which tied the month to African roots. It also marks the start of the UK academic year, which was seen as a way to build pride and identity among Black children.
The US observance takes place in February. It traces to Carter G. Woodson, who established celebrations in 1926, and the month aligns with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. The American tradition centers on African American history. The UK version focuses on the history, achievements, and contributions of Black people in Britain. Addai-Sebo has said October was chosen to engage children and young people.
How Peloton Has Named Its October Classes
Peloton has not used consistent naming for its October programming each year. In 2021, class titles used the UK BHM label, as they do now. In 2022 and 2023, the classes read Black History Month, with Hannah Frankson, Jermaine Johnson, Joslyn Thompson Rule, Jeffrey McEachern, and Cliff Dwenger teaching across Cycling, Running, Walking, and Strength.
In 2024, the October themed naming moved to themed titles, including an Afro-ALT Run with Camila Ramon, an Afro-ALT Yoga Flow with Kirra Michel, and a Black British Radio Walk + Run with Jermaine Johnson. Black Around the World classes appeared in 2024 and 2025, led by Joslyn Thompson Rule and Marcel Dinkins, for example.
The schedule listed so far ends on October 23, while UK Black History Month runs through October 31. Early finishers of the Two-for-One Strength class that dropped on October 1 confirmed and a new badge is available.
