Peloton Tim Curry Tribute Honors Actor In 20-Minute Class

The Peloton Tread instructor built the class around songs tied to Curry’s stage and film career, days after his death at 80.

Peloton Tread instructor Mariana Fernández turned her latest class into a Peloton Tim Curry Tribute, building a 20-minute Walk + Run entirely around music tied to the actor’s stage and screen career. Curry died on August 25 at age 80, and Fernández, who is part of Peloton’s regular running lineup, dedicated the class to him before the workout began.

“We got a very special 20-minute Broadway walk plus run, an old tribute to the late Tim Curry, one of my all-time favorite actors,” Fernández told her class before the workout began. She added that the class would draw on “his Broadway background of films he was in,” steering the tribute toward his stage credits rather than his best-known film role.

A Peloton Tim Curry Tribute Built From His Stage Catalog

The playlist leaned heavily on Curry’s Broadway resume. “If the World Were Like the Movies,” “Manhattan,” and “Exits” all come from “My Favorite Year,” the 1992 musical that earned Curry a Tony nomination for his role as Alan Swann. “Easy Street” nodded to his film work as Rooster Hannigan in the 1982 adaptation of “Annie,” and “Always Look On the Bright Side of Life” referenced “Spamalot,” where Curry originated the role of King Arthur on Broadway from 2005 to 2007. A cover of “Sweet Transvestite” closed out the theatrical arc, a direct callback to Dr. Frank-N-Furter, the role that made Curry a cult icon in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” Fernández also worked in “A New Argentina” from the 2006 London cast recording of “Evita,” rounding out the set with additional Broadway material beyond Curry’s own credits.

Curry’s Career Beyond Rocky Horror

Curry was born in Grappenhall, Cheshire, England, and built a nearly 60-year career on stage and screen. Beyond “Rocky Horror,” he was known for roles in “It,” “Legend,” and “Clue”. He suffered a stroke in 2012 that left him with lasting mobility issues for the rest of his life. Curry died at his home in the Toluca Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles, and documents obtained by People later confirmed coronary artery disease as the cause, with his history of stroke and kidney cancer listed as contributing factors.

Fernández’s Peloton Tim Curry Tribute adds her to a small list of instructors who have shaped a class around real-world entertainment news rather than a standard theme ride.
