Peloton Studio New York Dark After Fire
An Amtrak derailment overnight sent smoke into the building, forcing cancellations — but no injuries were reported.
A fire under the Peloton Studio New York building forced the cancellation of live classes on the morning of Friday, May 29, 2025. No injuries were reported, and the building itself sustained no damage, but smoke filled the studios and made conditions unsafe for exercise.
Instructor Becs Gentry confirmed the disruption in an Instagram Story posted shortly after 5:00 AM ET, writing that an Amtrak crash on the rail line directly beneath the studios overnight caused smoke to fill the area. Gentry noted she had arrived at the studio before learning the full details and took a moment to acknowledge members who had come in for in-person sessions.
“The smoke in the area and in our studios was awful and unsafe to be exposed to, let alone to exercise in,” she wrote.
Classes that had been scheduled as live on the Peloton app this morning — including runs with Becs Gentry, strength sessions with Rad Lopez, and cycling classes with Cody Rigsby — were listed as canceled or converted to encore presentations. Peloton initially hoped to resume live programming at Peloton Studio New York by 8:30 AM CT, though no official confirmation of resumption had been issued at the time of this writing.
Updated 7:11am CT: Peloton has posted a statement on their social media accounts that all classes are canceled for the day.
Members who had planned to attend in-person sessions this morning were turned away. Gentry expressed her thanks to those who made the trip and said she hoped to see them back in the studio the following day.
No update on the Amtrak incident or structural assessment of the building had been publicly released as of this writing.
