Speaker 2: [00:00:00] It’s more than just your output, more than a bike
Welcome to the Clip Out Podcast, episode 487. This is Crystal O’Keefe. And this is Tom O’Keefe. Hi. So, hi. So, uh, I guess the big news for the week- Mm-hmm … I hit 20. Woo-hoo. 20 years- I mean, that is really impressive … at my current job. I’ve never been at a place very long. I’m one of those job, they call them job hoppers.
Yeah. Not really. Like, I’ve been into places for a long, like [00:01:00] years. Right. It’s not like you’re working every place for 18 months. No. But like, yeah, I’m like, 20 years, I don’t- 20 years though, that’s impressive. I don’t know if that’s really good or, like, absolutely no initiative of any kind. No, that’s… I, I, I’m going to just answer for you.
It’s really good. First of all, you have an awesome job. I do. It’s pretty cake. And, uh, you get a lot of really cool benefits that are not available to- Yeah … most of us these days. And also, you actually like your job. I do enjoy what I do. And, uh, I will also say, I have been promoted over the years, so my job currently- Has, it has evolved- It has grown
and grown. Yeah. And, yeah. And I was offered a gig and I turned it down, so- That’s right … there’s that. But yeah, 20- A, a few times. A few times. That has happened more than once. 20 years in one place is- It’s, it’s, uh- … is crazy. I did not think when I was walking in there at 19- … uh, that I would be there 20 years later.
Yeah, I bet. [00:02:00] So. That’s, uh, it’s pretty stunning. I don’t know that I’ll last 20 years at any one place. What about here? Oh, no, I mean work. Oh, okay. I’m only talking work. I’m glad you don’t consider me work. I don’t. Some days I wonder. Most days. Most days I don’t. Yeah, so. But, uh, but yeah, that’s, uh… And I guess I’m a kind of resigned to the fact at this point where I’m like, I guess this is just, barring some major calamity, what I’m gonna do the rest of my life.
Well, I feel like after, you know, after the most recent issue- Yeah … which people on the bonus know about- Yeah … I feel like, uh, something really bonkers would have to happen to change it, because, like, we are ma- we have made our peace with… We have not made our peace. You didn’t settle.
Right. I don’t want to say that. But, like, we have made decisions in our life- Yeah … based off of that’s where you’re staying. So I, I hope that is where you’re staying. Yeah, so. Goodness. Yep. It’s just, now we start the long slow decline. Enjoy.[00:03:00]
Speaking of long, slow declines- Yeah … what pray tell do you have in store for people this week? Oh, way to talk it up, babe. Yeah. So good at this … you know what, our, there’s a lot to talk about around this member gratitude season. Mm-hmm. Now, I know that that by itself isn’t a very sexy title. It, it is a very dry, boring name.
But there’s a lot going on with this. Like, th- there’s a lot happening here, and I’m actually really excited about it because, uh, recently when I was at Peloton during their big Tread reveal, I got to give them my wishlist and there are things on this wishlist that I feel like came up. And so I’m excited that this is happening because- Yeah
uh, I think that, well, I’ll, I’ll get into it, but I feel like it’s a really good move for Peloton and the members, and, uh, people who have been around only since, I say only like it hasn’t been that long. At this point, if you came in after the pandemic you’re a longtime [00:04:00] member at this point still.
Yeah. Six years is no joke. It’s funny ’cause it’s like, it’s such a desi- dividing point just like a clear demarcation of when a huge influx of people came in and there are obviously lots of people who predate the pandemic. Yes. And so for a long time, the pandemic people were kind of seen as like the newbies.
Yeah. And at this point, yeah, it’s been five, six years. Yeah. Like, that’s a good chunk of time. It is. And so, so, but- You’re still a baby, so … there are a lot of people that, there are a lot of people that haven’t gotten to experience some of these things. So I’m- Yeah … I’m excited for them to see what this is like.
Yeah. So we’ll get into that. Uh, we’re also going to talk about the AMA that Peloton Tread posted on Reddit specifically about the Tread. So it was Matt and Nick Caldwell, Matt Wilpers and Nick Caldwell. We also are gonna talk about the CAO exiting Peloton, um, and, uh, what’s next there.
We also have some new features that we are gonna talk about, form feedback and movement tracker, and [00:05:00] how they have started walking people through it- Okay … um, to make sure people are understanding it. They also have added in movement preces- preferences and stack limits. We’ll talk about that. They are casting for a commercial.
We will give you all the details as to where. Uh, not to mention, uh, there’s some new news for the instructors. Who is stepping away from live classes? Ooh. Hmm. For a bit. Uh, and then we also have some folks having some big life-changing milestones coming up. Um, and we have the content that we’re gonna talk about.
There’s a lot of new classes hitting, sometimes for the first time, sometimes they are long, they are loved cla- most loved classes that are coming back. So we’re gonna talk about all that as well. Awesome. Well, before we get to all that, Shameless Plugs, don’t forget we’re available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeartTune, and wherever you find a podcast, there we are.
There we are. Isn’t that exciting for you? Uh, what a fun, sexy time in your life- … that you can find [00:06:00] podcasts wherever you find podcasts. But if that’s not enough, you can also find us on Facebook, facebook.com/theclipout. While you’re there, like the page, join the group. It’s a great way to stay up to date on things throughout the wheat- week and talk to other people of like mind.
Yeah. If that’s still not enough for you- Mm-hmm … and you’re like, “That all sounds great, Tom, but how do we give you money?” Sure. Patreon, patreon.com/theclipout. What do you get for said money? First off, it’s only $5. Mm-hmm. Just a paltry $5, and what you get in exchange are undying love and gratitude. You also get early episodes, you get ad-free episodes, and every week, you get a bonus episode chock-full of all the things that we didn’t have time to get to in the main episode this week.
An instructor spotted in a mocap suit. What does that mean? What… Motion capture. Sorry. I was in- [00:07:00] You, you went all industry on us … I was in real spoilers mode- Yeah … where our listeners know what mocap means. Yeah. Motion capture. There we go. Okay. So it’s like how they did the animation for, like, Polar Express.
Right. Right. That’s- So what does that mean? Or how they did, uh, Gollum in Lord of the Rings, things like that, so. There’s also a new instructor with a Substack. It’s more than $5 a month, I’m just saying. And Cody has a charity auction, and boy did he rack up some money. Yeah. It was, uh, a lot that this thing went for, so.
It’s, uh, yeah. That and more waiting for you over in the Patreon. You can also sign up for our newsletter at theclipout.com where all these links and whatnot will be sent to you. And then finally-
Oh yeah, you can watch us on YouTube. That’s the last one. So there’s all that. Let’s dig in, shall we? We shall.
Peloton has done tons of research, and they’ve decided [00:08:00] that members haven’t been grateful enough, and it’s time for you to get your shit together. Oh, okay. And so they are launching member gratitude season, where you better recognize. That’s the slug line. Peloton member gratitude season, you better recognize.
Oh, wow. Is that what’s going on here? No, not at- Oh … not at all. Oh, sorry. Um, but yay. So member gratitude season. I know, uh, like it’s, uh, it’s- it’s- it’s not, it doesn’t have a good ring to it. It, it doesn’t pull you in. Yeah, it doesn’t- Okay … fully convey what’s going on here. No, but this is actually really exciting.
Um, several years ago… Do you remember when we went to London? I do recall an international flight, now that you mention it. Well, that was the last time that Peloton did a tour. Oh, wow. That’s been a minute. I know. Yeah. And so Peloton did a tour. It was kind of like reimagining [00:09:00] Homecoming- Mm-hmm … or HRI, Homrider Invasion.
Right. For those of you who are new, that’s just basically the, originally the, the members made up this thing called the Homrider Invasion, and they love Peloton so much they all went to the mothership, because that’s what we called it back then. Yeah. And, um, they ha- they had a party, and they all took classes together.
That’s what started it all. Completely Member- … organized. Yes. 100% organic from the fan base. And then Peloton was like, “Well, that’s a great idea. We should do that more often.” So then they started hosting HRIs and and then eventually they didn’t like that name anymore. It got rebranded into Homecoming, and then Homecoming stopped altogether, and they did this tour, okay?
Pandemic killed Homecoming. It did. Yeah. It did. And also it was just right after the pandemic, and their expenses, e- everything was kind of out of whack. Yeah. It wasn’t a great time for them to be hosting parties and s- doing really expensive things. So, so then, uh, they did the, the tour, and the tour was, like, in all these different cities.
Well, this year, it, that kind of stopped too. Now [00:10:00] it’s been quiet for a couple years, right? Mm-hmm. Nothing’s happened at all. Yeah. Also, that always used to happen in May. It was right around Mother’s Day. I very clearly remember that- Yeah … whenever they had Homecoming. Because we announced the podcast at Homecoming of 2017 that- Okay.
Yeah … and, and then we got home and, and launched it into the world. And then people looked at us like, “Yeah, that’s kind of dumb.” Definitely did. Um- But okay. Uh- And then we went back the next year and hosted it. Mm. It was… Yeah. Just saying. Anyway. Still a little salty. So, so there’s a lot of things happening with this.
There’s… This is really cool. Um, there’s gonna be several different stops. Uh, the first is going to be in Miami. Uh, they are going to… There’s going to be Rad Lopez and Camila Ramon. Now, they are already there because of Faces of Fitness, right? Yeah. But they’re also going to be doing a tour stop there and, uh, it’s going to be a Gratitude season tour Miami run, and it’s free.
There’s open spots, and you go in and you get to, uh, hang out with Camila [00:11:00] and Rad. There’s also, I said that the, that was the first one. The next one is in Berlin. The Gratitude tour goes to Berlin on October 31st. There’s gonna be a free 5K that is led by Jeffrey McEckern. Okay Yeah Then we go to November 4th, Los Angeles.
There’s going to be a run with Tunde and Marcell Dinkins, also free, on November 4th. That’s gonna be in Santa Monica. Then on November 7th, there’s gonna be a free run with, uh, Bex Gentry and Kirsten Ferguson. Uh, and that’s in Chicago. I’m sensing a theme of Chicago and Kirsten. Moving on. Okay. Um, uh, then we have the 14th.
That’s gonna be in New York City. There’s going to be a Pelo Dad walk, which I love this because it’s Alex Kay and Matt Wilpers pushing strollers and doing a walk in New York City. Now, they’re the most secretive dads in the world. Right. And, [00:12:00] uh, we are all on pins and needles. Will their children actually be there?
Ooh. Because they- they t- both tend to keep their kids off of social media. For sure, which is fine. Absolutely fine. There is no… That is not a negativity thing at all. Yeah. But they’re gonna be, uh, doing a stroller rock- walk with, uh, Pelo Dads, and I- I just, I love all of this. Yeah. I think it’s so cool.
Okay, so in addition to all of these really fun activities, they have also brought back the Pelo Leaderboard Awards. Oh. Uh, and Maddie and Ally Love, which is a weird matchup, but, uh- … they are going to be hosting the Pelo Leaderboards Awards. There are six different categories this year that you can nominate people for.
Yeah. You can nominate a group, you can nominate a person, you can nominate yourself in any of these different categories. You have to not only put in a name, but you have to write a 500-word thing about why this person/group deserves to get this award. And there are categories like who lights up PSNY, like people that you see at PSNY all the time.
Yeah. So basically, the people that are there every Sunday- Right … one of them’s gonna [00:13:00] get it. Gotcha. And then, uh, PSN- PSL gets the same kinda thing. Okay. There’s one for th- a person who has brought the most… made their own Peloton group. Uh, then there’s a one for who has rallied the community and, like, you know, brought them together.
And so there’s- there’s a couple more and I’m forgetting what they are. But that’s the idea. Yeah. And you can nominate people, which I think is really cool. Your nominations have to be turned in by October 31st. And then perhaps the coolest thing- Yeah … if it’s the way I envision it in my head anyway, which sometimes doesn’t happen. Um, okay, so they announced this week… It was weird ’cause they announced it, and then they took it down, and then they put it back up again. Right. But there was a post from Peloton where y- they are going to be bringing back classes.
So they’re gonna post, like, a selection of classes, let’s say on a Monday. Yeah. I don’t remember what day it is. Every… But this is gonna happen for several weeks in a row. They’re gonna post a selection of classes that are, like, fan favorites. Okay. [00:14:00] You get to vote, and then that class will get to be re-encored for a special one-time performance.
So we might be seeing some really old shit- Oh, I see … that I am super… Like, I’m hoping ’cause we have… This is one of the things we talked to Peloton about. Right. So, like, if this really happens- Yeah … i’m freaking stoked. Yeah, like, it’s that… Like, I feel like there’s a mentality of, like, showing the old stuff, like, lessens the brand ’cause it’s not what they do anymore.
And we had a whole conversation with them about- And- … how, like, it’s… This is what people love. Yeah. Like, this is, this is- And it’s like, it… But, like, at this point, it’s kind of cool history that people dig seeing, right? Like, when you… When I see you know, the Colgate Comedy Hour, I’m not like, “Well, that’s not what NBC looks like these days.”
It’s cool to look back and see what it used to look like. Yeah. Now, I don’t… But here’s what I don’t know. Are these gonna be classes they’re literally pulling out of the archive? Yeah. Like, it doesn’t exactly say. Right. And we won’t know until they get posted. But I- But you get to vote every week, and I’m, like, so excited about that- Yeah
because you get to go and, like, [00:15:00] choose and, like… But also, if it’s relatively recent stuff, kinda who cares? Agreed. Yeah. Like, in my heart of hearts, I am hoping one of these classes is… One, one of the classes I’m hoping for, Christine’s two-hour breast cancer ride because that was the first two-hour ride ever at Peloton, so hoping for that.
Okay. I am hoping for Howie Godnik’s ride that he did where we had the, um, all of the jingles from all of the different- Oh, yeah … I can’t remember what they called it. The, the theme show, TV themes. TV theme show. Theme songs? Yeah. Yes, TV theme songs. I, uh, I hope- We get a, a dry erase board class Oh, that would be…
I would die. Like, I would just… Because I’ve never seen one. Yeah. So, like, that would be amazing. And then I also have hopes for the one, the very first one where Jen Sherman got off of her bike and, and did the entire rap to that one song that I never can remember the name of. Sugar Hill Gang? That’s the one.
Yeah. It was pretty amazing. And, uh, those are just a [00:16:00] few off the top of my head that are gone. Yeah. Golden Buddha, Dennis. Yeah. Oh my God, the original. The first one. The original, yeah. Like- The real one … the… That’s right, the real one. Yeah. Yeah. That is, that’s good shit, man. Those are just a few off the top of my head that I would love to see come back.
So, I’m super lit up about this, and I- I see that … I… Well, I mean, this is what makes- No, I, uh- … Peloton special. Yeah. You know? And there’s so many people that have never gotten to experience these things- Mm-hmm … because they were gone before they even got here. Some of the, the ones I told you about were gone long before 2020.
Yeah. So, like, there, there’s stuff that people have never gotten to experience. And I… But I don’t know if they’re gonna go back that far. That’s what I worry about. Yeah. I worry they’re only gonna pull up stuff from the last t- year that it’s been gone in the most recent year, you know? Yeah. But- I feel bad sometimes when I see people talking about how they were like, “Yeah, like, it used to be- Mm-hmm
that you could just walk into the studio, and you could go-” Mm-hmm. And I, and I feel, I feel bad that I got to do that- You got to experience that … when, like, I don’t [00:17:00] really care. Yeah, I mean, do you remember the first time we went into the 23rd Street after we’d started the podcast, and, uh, so people actually, like, recognized our names and things like that- Mm-hmm
and we just sat down and talked to people on the couch for, like- Yeah … hours. Like, do you remember? Yeah. Like, that was… Those were just good times. Yeah. The good times. Yeah. I just, I love that. And I just, sometimes I feel guilty that I got to experience this thing that now people are like, “Oh my God, that would’ve been so cool.”
It’d be like if you found out that, like, I don’t know, some, like, 68-year-old went to Woodstock, and you’re like- … like 68 at the time. Yeah. And you’re just like, “But you don’t care about Woodstock.” But why? I know. We were- You don’t get, you don’t, shouldn’t get to be at that. Our lovely friends, uh, Shannon and Jamie that, that stay with us sometimes, Jamie was telling us about the time he got to see Alanis Morissette, like, in a record store- Yeah
like days before the release of You Oughta Know- Yeah … like, was out officially. I wanna punch him in the face out of jealousy. Yes. God, I wish I could, I wish I could’ve been there for that kind of thing. And I know you got to see [00:18:00] her at, like, a tiny club level too. Yeah, at a club called The Duck Room that seats, like, 200 people.
Ugh, it’s not fair. One of my radio perks. Anyway, this is very exciting. I’m very excited for people. I’m super excited about Peloton doing this, and I hope it’s more to come because all of the things that I got to put in a wish list about, which means nothing I know that. Yeah. Like, they just asked me my preferences.
Right. But, like, it was all around people and doing more things like this. And so, so, like, just OGs I put in one for you and I’m, I’m hopeful, so. So Peloton Tread- Oh, we’re g- we’re gonna go back to the rest of the list. Okay, cool. Yes. I’m with, I’m with you. Hosted an AMA over on Reddit. Now, that is not the American Medical Association, for people who are confused.
That stands for ask me anything. It’s what the kids say, and the kids coined that not realizing that the American Medical Association was a thing, and now we hear it all the time. Yeah, it’s true. So they did this yesterday Uh, so I don’t have a lot of details about what actually happened. Mm-hmm. But [00:19:00] the idea was to talk about anything to do with the newest treads.
I know one thing I saw, one question that popped up and I just saw this as another post on Reddit, was somebody was like, “All this stuff about treads, uh, you hardly have any rower classes, you hardly have any rower instructors. People are not on the schedule that much. Does this mean that the rower is going away?
You haven’t ever put a rower out in another country-” Yeah … “like, we’re worried.” And Nick Caldwell was like, “Rowing is my main thing. Like, it’s not going anywhere. We do need to do a better job about it, and I’m hoping…” He hinted at a rower is coming at a lower prin- price point at some point. Mm. That, um, it will be smaller footprint and easier to get into other countries.
Right. That was the big takeaway that I saw. I’m sure there was a lot more about the tread and things like that. So, more to come on that probably in the bonus, to be honest, because I’ll probably have a chance to check that out more before the bonus. Right. But I’m always fascinated that they do these ask me anythings on Reddit, because it’s all in [00:20:00] writing.
Yeah. You know? Gives them more control. Oh, I know. Yeah. I know. And you… Yeah, never mind. I’ll just stop there. And, uh, but they also, we should mention, that they’ve been having some delivery issues with the new tread. They have. I- Anecdotal, we don’t know if this is emblematic or systemic. I, I don’t think it’s systemic, and I don’t think it’s emblematic, and here’s why.
I’m seeing a lot of people post they just got their new treadmill, and they’re really excited, and there’s nothing negative. There have been- Sure … some problems along the way, but like, I don’t know that you can roll out any product without having problems. Right. I know that people really have their eye on the treadmill because there have been issues with treads in the past.
Mm-hmm. And people just have a lot of side eye toward it, which is fair. I, I will tell you that Peloton told me, and they have posted it in other… They have told other news outlets like The New York Times and things like that, The Wall Street Journal, that like, they have completely redesigned these treadmills.
So like, even if you do have an issue, in theory you should be able to get it fixed at your house much sooner. Yeah. Um, and [00:21:00] not have to just replace the deck if you have an issue. Right. They’re saying that they redesigned it so it’s easier to do maintenance on, to be able to fix things right underneath, right in your own home, rather than having the deck shipped back and having to swap it out.
Time will tell, but I think it’s important to say there’s been things, there’s been… But there’s only been four, four people that have posted issues that I have seen. Yeah. And I think that’s very low given the amount of deliveries that we know are happening. Th- there could be as many as 10. There have been a lot of deliveries Oh, I know.
I’m being silly Hundreds of deliveries I’m being silly I know Yeah But I feel like it’s important to tell people Yeah, the, the people are buying it. Yes they’re, they’re selling the shit out of that Tread Flex especially I bet. I bet there’s lots of people that wanted a Tread that just don’t have the room for one, so a more compact version I would think is very appealing to many people Absolutely and the price point.
Absolutely. Yeah. Well, coming up after this, uh, we have a member of the C-suite moving on. We will give you the scoop on that. We [00:22:00] also got updates on form feedback and movement trackers and, uh, things like that. So stick around, won’t you?
Peloton’s CAO is exiting. So Chief Amphibious Officer. No, chief accounting off- Chief Ambidextrous Officer. I, I love the guesses, but no. Accounting, chief accounting officer. That was my next guess. Oh, okay. You were- If you would’ve just let me get to it. Okay. Sorry about that. Oh. Uh, you will probably remember the name Sakib Big.
He is the gentleman who was named in a lawsuit. Yeah, kinda got embroiled in some… Yeah. Yeah. And also you will remember that name because he served as interim CFO this year. Okay. And, uh, he is… He told Peloton on October 8th that he is leaving for an external opportunity. Uh, he is going to be leaving the company on November 27th, and the [00:23:00] search is on for a new CAO.
You know, I’ll do it. Yeah? Yeah. Aw, Tom. I can- That’s so nice of you. I mean, you’re prob- you’re just plugging stuff into Peachtree. How hard could it be? Peachtree. Oh, honey. I feel like I’m perfectly qualified. I mean, in 1998, that would’ve been the software. Peachtree. You’re adorable. It’s really my only selling point.
Well, I’m just saying, Peloton, if you need someone who can navigate Peachtree- … look no further. So are you gonna move to New York for that? Are you gonna keep your current- No, it’s just software based. Oh, okay. I can do that from here. Okay. Yeah. Don’t a- don’t expect too much from me. God, I can’t imagine- Yeah.
Your- … the pressure of any accounting role at this company. No kidding. So, uh, let’s talk form feedback and movement tracker. [00:24:00] So wherever you go, Peloton is where. They’re tracking it. Well, here’s the thing. Peloton… Let’s back up to the Guide, okay? Peloton has had a movement tracker and for- form feedback since the Guide.
Right. Again, if you are not a longtime member, you will have no idea what the hell I am talking about- Yeah … because it is now defunct and can no longer be found. But it was an item that you hooked up- Maybe at a TJ Maxx. Possibly. Yeah. Uh, you hooked it up to your television, and you had a direct line into the Peloton app, basically.
And it was able to count your reps. It was able to have a camera on you that it could see, you could see your own self next to what the instructor was doing to be able to tell how your form was compared to the instructor. Right. And it would have, like, some feedback for you, like, “Oh, your knees aren’t over your toes.”
Keep your shoulders down- Right … or, yeah. That’s such a tonal- Yeah … feedback. And, uh, it, that, they also [00:25:00] had things that, like, showed you a streak and what your volume was based on what- weights that you told it that you had in. So if you were like, “I’m using the, for my light weights, I’m using eight pound weights,” for example and it would have like a library of weights.
Anyway, that was all the guide. Well, when they came out with the Cross Training series last year, they basically moved the guide onto the platform. And so the, the Cross Training Bike, the Cross Training Tread, and the Cross Training Row all had this built in, okay, so that now you could do boot camps on any of those pieces of equipment, right, and you would have your form feedback, et cetera.
Okay. When they released this year the new Treads, all three of the new Treads, Tread Flex, Tread Vision Plus, they all have the cameras and they all have this new, all of the form tracking. It’s all the same things. So point being, now they have a brand new tour that walks you through how to use all of these things.
As you log in, it walks you through [00:26:00] it. And so now you can get y- real-time form feedback on any of those pieces of equipment. So that’s, uh, that’s very cool and I hope- And this is just in the new CrossFit series and other, like, not the old stuff? Cross Training. Cross Training. Sorry. Anything that- Ooh, I just…
Uh, IP breach. Yeah. It’s got ’em sued. Uh, the Cross Training series and the new Vision treadmills. Okay. Because all of them have the cameras, right? Yeah. So the original series that don’t have cameras or that just have the old camera that did nothing basically- Not good enough … n- no. None of that works. Yeah.
So, like, my Tread Plus, even though it’s a Tread Plus, is not the kind of Plus that has a camera, so, like, I don’t get any of this, right? Gotcha. None of my equipment has any of this on it. All of it will need to be replaced. I’ll get right on that. Okay. Yeah. Well, I was thinking we could wait till we move.
Patreon is now $75 a month. So, but anyway, that is all new, and that is why you are seeing this new tour that you see every [00:27:00] time you log in now. Well, not every time, but they’ll do it a couple times. Yeah. So now let’s talk movement preferences and stack limits. Okay. So movement preferences, they added this cool new feature where you can flag moves.
So you know how you and I both hate burpees, for example. Yes. You can go into your settings and you can say, “I don’t do certain set… I don’t do certain moves,” for example, burpees. No. And then they have them broken out by, like, types of moves, so, like, it could be jumping, it could be high impact, it could be hip hinges.
Basically, there could be all kinds of different reasons that you have them. You put in you don’t, you don’t necessarily wanna do those, and then they will have a yellow flag on any class that shows, that includes a move that you said, “I don’t wanna do.” So it doesn’t remove the move from it, but it gives you a heads-up it’s in there.
Right. So that you can quickly be like, “Oh, I don’t wanna do that one ’cause it has burpees,” you know? I just hit select all. Well, then you’re not doing anything. Exactly. [00:28:00] Um, so, uh, I think this is very cool. I, um, I think that people might have some concerns about that, like it’s going to tell you not to do moves.
Mm. You’re self-selecting. Right. So you can, you can choose to include any move or not. Right. I mean, I’m, I haven’t put any on mine, even though I don’t like to do burpees. Here’s my philosophy on this stuff. The more you hate it, the more you need to do it. Most likely, yeah. And so I don’t necessarily go out of my way to choose a class- Right
that has things like that, but I’m, if I, if it shows up, I will do it. Now, in fairness, some people are perhaps selecting that not ’cause they hate it, but because they have some sort of limitation that prevents them from able, being able to do it safely or effectively. Absolutely. That’s- They have an injury of some kind or- Or like they have a, a, a disability that’ll- Right
that, you know, like, like, um, if you’re missing a limb, like if you just don’t have a limb, maybe you were born without a limb or maybe it was amputated at some point, you, you might want to avoid certain activities- Right … for obvious reasons. Um, [00:29:00] so- No Bulgarian split squats. Right. Right? Yeah. Um, so, so there’s a billion different reasons.
And you know, there’s always this debate about like people self-selecting because some people think that they’re not gonna make the right choices, but like at the end of the day, like you’re a grownup, so. It, and people can self-select and just not buy a Peloton. Yeah. And so like people- You can also self-select and- Yeah
not, and just stand there and not do the workout. Yeah. Like you can just watch it and be like, “I’m not doing burpees.” Yeah, so it’s like, you know. There have been days that I’ve been like, “No, not doing it.” No. Not doing it. Get down there and do those burpees for 30 seconds. I’m not doing it. There’s been, uh, decades like that for me.
So. Also stack limits. Yeah, stack limits. Uh, used to be 10, a limit of 10. Oh. It got increased to 25. Oh. There are people that have asked like, “Why the hell would you do that? I’m never taking 25 classes at one time,” which, yeah, me either. Yeah. But here’s the thing. There are people that stack them on a Sunday- Mm
and then they use them all week long. Oh, I see. So they, they stack it one time and then their whole [00:30:00] week is loaded. They’re like- They don’t have to think. It was just- They’re like building a program for themselves. They build a program for themselves. Okay. That’s right, yeah. Okay. So a Peloton is casting for a commercial in Austin.
Not too far from where we almost lived. That’s true. Yes, they are casting members in Austin. It’s gonna be a one-day shoot on November 4th for Tread and Bike. They are looking for men and women in their 30s and 40s. You get a $2,000 a day rate. Oh, mm. And, uh, that is via Little Gem Productions. So, uh, one of our helper bees, Nikki- Yeah … she looked it up to make sure that that was a real company.
It was. Yeah. Seems to be. Yeah. Seems to be. So, and they recen- they did one not too long ago in, um, I feel like it was in New York, and then I don’t know if anything ever came of it. Those things take so long to produce- That they do … that it totally could have, and we just haven’t seen it yet. Yeah. You know?
So, anyway, it’s interesting they didn’t choose anybody in their 50s. I’m just saying. I guess they figure by that point- You- … it’s too late. The [00:31:00] ship has sailed. I mean, there’s a lot of members in their 50s, 60s- I know … and 70s, so I feel like whatever. And, uh, finally, uh, Teams has added a new feature.
They have, yeah. It, they added a new feature called Share More About Yourself. The feature’s not really called Share More About Yourself. Mm. But it, but it’s, it allows you to go in and add a bio. You can add a photo of yourself. Mm-hmm. You can add tags so that people can find you, like-minded people.
Like, if you’re only taking trike classes, for example- Right … people who are taking trike classes, I guess, could find you. Yeah, I, uh, I just really can’t get into the Teams. Yeah. I, me personally, I’m not saying… So I, I just haven’t gotten to really… I mean, I’ve been invited to so many Teams that it’s, like, overwhelming.
Yeah. Like, I’m just, like, I can’t, I can’t keep up with you. I think you’re unique in that you’ve got quite a bit of Peloton engagement going on in your life. It’s true. So adding Teams to the occasion, eq- equation- That’s a good point … might be a lot. Yeah. It does feel a little overwhelming. Yeah. You know.
.
[00:32:00] Katie Wong is stepping away from live classes. Yes. Okay, but she said for a little. Uh, she said that she was that her class this week was going to be her last one for a little while. She recommended people try out her split program. And you know, there’s a lot of things you could read into this, but my guess, and it’s just a guess, is that this is part of her 12 weeks that she gets off- Ah
and that’s all it is. Gotcha. I, I, I know a lot of people really read a lot into this- Yeah … that like she’s going away or she’s gonna be changing. And I’m not saying that’s not true, I’m just saying I kinda doubt it. Right. I think it’s probably just she has some time off, so. Gotcha. ‘
Yeah. Not a little while, a little. Uh, Jess Sims will be hosting the ESPN W Summit. Yeah. I don’t know anything about this because it’s sports, but, Yes … I know it’s a really big deal for Jess Sims, and very cool honor, and we are happy for her. Yeah. Is the W, does that stand for women? Women. That’s what I assumed, but- Goddamn right, Tom.[00:33:00]
Sorry, I was- Just assuming It’s been a rough week for women Because real ESPN’s for men, and then I say these things just so you give me that look. I love it. That’s the one. Oh, our YouTube numbers are gonna skyrocket- … as people go over to see the little- … the little looks you give me. Also, uh, th- we should talk here about the, the Do Hards the Do Hard Things event- Yes
that she did. Yeah. Sunday, uh, October 18th was Jess Sims’ Do Hard Things live finale. Uh, there was also, together with the finale, there was also a celebration at PSNY. There were, um, there- they even had $100 You Don’t Have To, You Get To sweatshirt that dropped at 3:00 PM Eastern and was sold out by 3:06 PM Eastern.
Yikes. A- it actually went out early. I know there’s gonna be somebody yelling at me that’s listening right now. I know it went out early, uh, just d- because it’s [00:34:00] gone anyway, so it doesn’t matter. Right. It was gone in six minutes. Yes. So that’s the point. And then they restocked it the next day, and all of those orders have been canceled.
Oh. And then, um, one of our helper bees, our tipsters, was super excited because it was still live in Canada. Their order got canceled as well. So, like, I think they, I think there was a mismatch between how many the system said they had- Right … versus how many they actually had. So there’s a lot of people that are bummed out.
However, if you are bummed out, let me tell you, it was $100 for this sweatshirt. It was $100. Yeah. It was a sweatshirt just a plain old crew neck sweatshirt that said, “You don’t have to, you get to” on the back. Cute. Yeah. But $100? I mean- That’s more than a concert sweatshirt. That’s more than a concert hoodie.
Like, come on now. Not much more, though. Not much? And it’s been a minute, so maybe that’s what they are now. It is not. We were just at Benson Boone. They were, like, 80. That’s right, 80. I know, but they- That’s not 100 … but prices are going up quickly. That’s true. [00:35:00] So. I don’t know. It seems like a lot, but there were a lot of people that complained about that price, so- Yeah
I don’t think it’s just me with sticker shock. But anyway- But based on the fact that it sold out- They, they purposely stocked it with low quantity. Gotcha. I know that for a fact. Yeah. So I’m not saying that was done in a way to, like, be mean to anybody. Mm-hmm. But they, but they purposely put a low amount of stock in.
So it is also possible that we will see this restocked at some point- Sure … because it did so well. Because it was so popular. Mm-hmm. Yeah. I don’t know, but- It was, it definitely went fast. So Greta Dopp is getting married. She is, and she’s just the cutest. Um, she will be getting married in Italy this June, and we had had some, some members who had spotted that she was wearing a ring, like a week before that.
Yeah. And, um, we never really got to do a deep dive, and then all of a sudden she was like, “Oh yeah, and I’m also planning a wedding.” I, uh, I have to say it was, uh, really funny because we post these articles when we find them these little details. Yeah. [00:36:00] And a lot of times the instructors will be tagged in them.
Mm-hmm. Sometimes it’s me tagging them, sometimes it’s other people tagging them. And, uh, this one really cracked me up because she has a friend who was like, “Oh my God, they are talking about your wedding.” Like, it w- they were just completely crazed that we had a whole article about her wedding. Yeah.
And then she called us TMZ, which I think was nice. But I’m… Because Greta’s always been super sweet. Yes. So I think she meant it in a silly, like, nice way. Right. But it was j- it was a funny exchange that happened- Yeah … on our post. So it was cute. You’re like a little Harry Levin. But I mean, she posted about it.
TMZ, like, they show up at your house. Right. They’re watching you all the time. They post about it before you get engaged. Yeah. Yeah. Like, they’re waiting. Or one step ahead of you. Yeah. Th- that’s not what we did. No. You posted and then we posted. That seems fair. Fair game, man. Yeah. Finally, uh, Ben Aldis is returning to PSNY.
He is. He’s gonna be [00:37:00] doing a two-for-one power zone with Matt Wilpers on November 21st. It’s gonna be 120 minutes of these two together. Nice. And there are also th- I believe we’re gonna see some other classes during that time frame. I, I mean, it seems likely. Yeah. They wouldn’t bring him all the way over here to just do one thing.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But on the other hand, I’m like, that’s awful close to Thanksgiving. They celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK? No. They don’t? Oh, right. No. Yeah. Just kidding. Yeah. Ugh, that reminds me of the time- Yes … oh my God. Should tell that story on the bonus. Oh, I should. Oh, it’s the worst. Oh, that was mortifying.
Mortifying. I, that was, like, office-level cringe. Oh my God, I’m, I’m, like, getting hot just thinking about it. I have to take off my sweater. Not in a good way. No. Yeah. I’m, like, I’m, like, getting sweat from how awful it was. Yeah. Like, I made the biggest fool out of myself ever on a company phone call. Oh my God, that was so bad.
I wanted to cry. Okay. Anyway, moving [00:38:00] right along. Well, moving right along into commercials. Okay. So coming up after this, we’ve got content. We’ll talk the TCO top five, we’ll talk Peloton’s Halloween challenge, and, uh, Ally Love adds more rebuild classes, so stick around.
It is time for the TCO top five. You’ve told us your favorite classes, and we’ll let you know if you’re right Here we go. Number one, Sam Yo’s 30-minute video store ride. Oh my gosh. I’m so excited about this video store ride because Sam has done these for a while. It was a while ago that we had a whole article about him.
Mm-hmm. And they weren’t name- They didn’t have it in the title. Right. So, like, if… It was one of those if you knew kind of things. Right. And, um, we put a whole article together listing out all of these. People have just talked about how amazing they are from day one. And, um, I love them. I’m so [00:39:00] excited that Peloton has finally given Sam his own signature class called The Video Store Ride.
Yeah. I found out a little bit more about this week before I give the nomination. Um, Sam is saying that there are going to be six of these a year approximately. Um, he’s expecting some more around the holidays and then more around Valentine’s Day. Uh, and that’s probably how these are gonna go.
There’s going to be a collection for them, which is super exciting, and I love his Sam’s Video Store T-shirt. I wish it were for sale. And lots of other people do, too. All right. As far as the nomination goes, there were four different nominations for this week. Actually, five, because one came in after I had already put this together.
Got it. So they did not get included. But, um, I’m just gonna read one. “I’d like to nominate Sam’s 30-minute video store ride. So much fun and full of nostalgia. Sam really takes you back to those days of a video store and choosing a tape to watch with ev- while everyone sat around watching it, eating fish and chips.”
Yeah. “This is a ride that even may get Tom on the [00:40:00] bike. Well, maybe adjacent to it.” Stuart Bain. I feel like Stuart’s from the UK. I agree. I agree. Because we went to the video store and then got Domino’s Pizza. Mm. Yes. That’s what we did in the States. But those triple-cooked chips- Oh, they’re good
in the UK. I don’t know why no one in America is making them that way. They all, they all should be triple cooking them because, like, the UK has, has… They have the best fries- Yes … in the world. I know they’re called chips there- Yeah … but for me, they’re fries. Probably ’cause they’re closer to France. That makes sense.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, totally. Well, how good must they be in France then? I don’t know. Do they even have them there? I don’t know. You know what they call them in France? Fries. Fries. Yeah. I don’t know, though, that they have them because France is so foodie. They’re very… Yeah, it is odd. Yeah. Such a… Yeah.
Yeah. Uh, number two, your favorite special guest ride. Okay. So this class was taught by Robin Arzon, and it was a class with, uh, Dr. Becky. Dr. Becky, if you don’t [00:41:00] know, is like a parental, What do you call? She’s supposed to be an expert. That’s the word I’m trying to say. She’s… When I say supposed to be, she is a doctorate of, like, psychology.
Like parenting. Yeah. Well, she’s a j- of psychology and, and she specializes in parenting. Yeah. So, um, she wrote a book. And that- Book I don’t have in this note here, but, oh, it’s called Good Inside. There it is. Christina Ribiero rim- ri- uh, nominated this, and she said she’s recommending both the book and the class that Robin hosted Dr.
Becky Kennedy in a phenomenal class where the focus wasn’t really the workout, but instead the interview. It was a talk and reflection with a great playlist in the background, something very different. Christina was impressed with how Dr. Be- Becky went over the most important points in the book in just 30 minutes, and how Robin was making connections with our journey as parents, caregivers, and athletes.
Christina bookmarked this class because, just like the book, it’s one of those that should be read in different life stages of your kids and as you, [00:42:00] of you as a parent. Okay. So that was a really strong nomination. Yeah. Uh, number three, it’s a row boot camp. It is, and it was taught by Katie Wong. It was a 45-minute boot camp, and it was split with a 50/50.
That’s important for people who take a lot of row boot camps- … ’cause a lot of times they’re 15, 15, 15, 15. And so having the 50/50 is nice ’cause you do half of it on the row- Ah … and then you get off and do half on the floor. Anyway. Gotcha. Charlie Spillane is the one who nominated this, and she said “Her playlists are always fantastic and her programming always manages to make the time fly by.
The floor exercises were really a total body strength session.” Awesome. Uh, number four, your favorite live music run. Can’t wait for you to pronounce this name. So JC Bobbit nominated this class that was taught by Jermaine Johnson. It was the 30-minute dance music run with Tiny Tempa. Is that how you say it?
That’s how I’m saying it. I wasn’t sure. Well, I’m thinking it’s like a small temper- Yeah … like Tiny Tempa. [00:43:00] That’s was my interpretation, but- and it was t- it was on 10/14. JC said, “High energy and great music. It’s always great to have something a little different, and any of the live music or DJ runs always do that.
This is no exception. Great sustained intervals with an incredible performer to keep you distracted from the work and moving,” which is always appreciated. Uh, “Jermaine is always encouraging and gives a tough class that is achievable for everyone.” Plus, I have to say, Tiny Tempa really seemed like he enjoyed the class- Yeah
which I always love. You know, it’s kind of like when we watch The Muppets, you know? Right. Like, regardless if you know who the performer is, you can tell how into it they are. Yeah. Some, some of them are just having the time of their life, and others are like just like, “Okay, I’m doing The Muppets this week.”
Mm-hmm. But the, some of them are just beaming the entire time. Leslie Uggams. Leslie Uggams is a good example. Was beaming the entire time she was on The Muppets. She was having a blast. It was delightful to watch. It really was. Yeah. As opposed to, like, Elton John, who I love and I thought would be a [00:44:00] really great show.
And, and like, it was a f- it was a neat show- Right … and it was fun, but it just wasn’t what I expected. Yeah. It was like, kind of just like a mini Elton John performance. Right. Which is awesome all by itself- Sure … but not what I was expecting from The Muppets. Yes. So if you can’t tell, we’re watching The Muppets right now.
Yes. Finally, number five, the class so difficult you dare not stack it. Yeah. This is, uh, nominated by Sheena Barr. It was taught on October 18th by Jess Sims. It was the Do Hard Things Sims 60 finale, and, uh, wrapping up four weeks of the Do Hard Things program. And, uh, Sheena said, “The feeling of finishing a four-week split live with the You Get Two crew is unmatched.
Plus that cl- that class was kickass as always. You Get Two crew never disappoints. Jess Sims is the best Peloton instructor in the United States.” Sheena was pumped. I see that. There are emojis. There are caps. There are exclamation points. Sheena is my kind of girl. That is how I write exciting emails, too.
[00:45:00] Were there GIFs? I have no idea. I was not there. But, uh, I am so excited that she was so excited, so… Moving into the rest of the content, peloton’s Halloween challenge is upon us. Yes. Okay. So first of all, you get I believe it’s three, five, and 10, and y- that’s your levels of your challenge that you get your different Halloween badges.
Okay. Okay? And, uh, there are a ton of classes that ended up on the schedule. We’ve given you some, like, early views, but now we finally have the whole thing, ’cause Christine was nice enough to post it. There are going to be a total of- 16 different Halloween classes. I see a two-for-one with, uh, Greta and Johanna we had talked about, so that’s one to look forward to.
There’s also we had talked about the Halloween Power Zone Endurance with Matt Wilpers. There’s gonna be a, uh, walk and talk with Maddie. Can’t wait to see who shows up with that. We’ve also got a Halloween, 30-minute Halloween ride with Mila in German, and then Asal is gonna be doing [00:46:00] a 30-minute Halloween body weight strength.
And then there’s another two-for-one. I think this is the first time Ben and Leanne are teaching a two-for-one together. Oh. How fun is that? How about that? Yeah. So- Get a little something extra in their paychecks double-dipping like that. Smart. It is smart. They got a kid to feed. So… Yeah, I’m sure they were hurting.
Peloton had their New York City Marathon shakeout run Well, no, they didn’t because- They’re going to There you go. ‘Cause the marathon’s not till November. Oh. I… You went to it. Yeah, but it was so long ago. Oh my goodness. I know, it was three years. Has it been three already? Yes. This year is three years- Wow
’cause we went in ’23, I think. I don’t know. Maybe it was only ’24. But anyway, the shoes that I wore there are dead. I keep wearing them- Yeah … and, like, they are so slick on the bottom. It’s ’cause I had that big push at the beginning. Anyway, uh, there’s going to be a shakeout run on October 30th. It’s gonna be Matt Wilpers, Mariana [00:47:00] Fernandez, and Zacharias in Central Park.
Somebody asked how long this thing is. I don’t know for a fact, but when I went and did the shakeout run, and I’m pretty sure this is typical, it’s a 3K, or a 5K. Three miles, 3.2 miles or whatever is a 5K. So super exciting. Uh, they… I tell you, I, I know that I don’t have time to train for a marathon right now.
Like, I know that. And probably if I did another marathon, it would be at Disney- Yeah … ’cause that’s, that’s like the other big place I wanna do one. But um, New York City Marathon posted a video of the wall of sound. Like, there’s the one place that’s on- Yeah … Fifth Avenue that’s a wall of sound. You come off the bridge, and it’s…
And when I say it’s silent on the bridge, like, all you can hear is the huffing of people’s breath- Yeah … and their steps. That’s it. It’s… And it’s, it’s kind of thunderous, but like in a creepy way. Yeah. And then you turn off of that bridge, and you come down the ramp, and it [00:48:00] erupts. Ugh, I’m getting chills-
just thinking about it. Like, oh my God, it makes me wanna do- wanna do it again. And they showed the wall of sound, and like, the best part of the marathon for me was when this little kid stuck his hand out to give me a high five, and I, like, got so pumped by this little kid giving me a high five. And then, like, 50 people after that gave me a high five, and I was like, “I can do anything.”
Like, it, it gave me so much energy. You just don’t understand what this crowd is like. If you’ve never done this marathon and you want to do this marathon, do this freaking marathon. You cannot go wrong. So Ally Love has more rebuild classes She does. I, I can’t r- I thought we talked about this already. I’m sorry.
I think she added more, I think. Well, I thought we talked about it last week but here’s the deal in case we didn’t. She is adding full body strength classes to the build- rebuilds program, and once a month she’s gonna be adding a full body strength [00:49:00] that is part of the program. So, like, let’s say you did the rebuild and you wanna, like, take it up a notch, this is a great way to do that.
Or maybe you haven’t done the program at all, maybe this is… You’re just now getting around to, “Oh, I wanna try the rebuild program,” you can do that and also add in that full body strength class once a month. Gotcha.
Eric Yeager has one last Tempo X live ride for people. Yeah. So it’s supposed to be a 30-minute finale. And here I’m a little confused by this because it’s a live class on October 18th and it’s like this was his signature class. It’s an interval class. He brought it back for one last one. And then somebody, one person posted that Eric said there were gonna be six more on the class.
Oh. Now, I didn’t take this class, so I don’t know. And nobody else said that, so I don’t know. For all I know, Eric could have been like, “There’s six other classes. Go take them.” And this person, you know, interpreted as- Right … six more classes. Oh. I have no idea. [00:50:00] But it was announced on socials as a finale is all I can tell you.
So do with that what you will. Christian Vande Velde returns to Peloton in October. He does. He’s gonna be back doing, uh, several different classes. There’s gonna be six rides one week. Uh, it’s going to be October 19th through the 25th, and he is going to be doing, shocking I know, a two for one with Matt Wilpers.
It’s going to be a 75-minute class that he’s doing. Also, a couple of other classes of note. One is the 45-minute pro cyclist speed training. Now, these in the past have been rated among the hardest classes that any of our members have ever done. So if you’re looking for a real whopper, try that. We have it unstackable in our future.
We do. Uh, and then there’s also, I think, another one of note, the 60-minute race simulation for the Montreal circuit. So there are more classes there. Like I said, there’s a [00:51:00] total of six, but those are the ones that stood out to me as ones that are like might wanna keep an eye on those. Marcel Dinkins has a Veterans Day run, so if you wanna continue the long and rich tradition of someone complaining that Peloton’s doing nothing for Veterans Day, and then you get to show them that they are doing something for Veterans Day- But then it’s not enough
But then it won’t be enough. Right. But, uh, but have this one bookmarked. Definitely. Now I did see, I did note it was an encore, which here’s the thing about Peloton. Sometimes they label an encore as a previous class from a previous year as an encore. Other times it is a prerecorded class dropping for the first time that they call an encore.
I don’t know why they do that. Yeah. I think it’s a mistake, but I don’t know which this is gonna be. And if it’s gonna be the one that it’s from the past, buckle up for the complaints. I’m just, just telling you now. But, uh, you know, the elections will be over by that time, so we’ll have so much to [00:52:00] complain about either way.
Will they? That’s my point. Anyway, moving right along. Matt Wilpers has a 120-minute live run. Yes, it is gonna be taking place Friday, October 23rd at 1:45 PM. Okay. Eastern. Whenever I see 120-minute class, I’m always like, “With special guest Matt Penfield.” I don’t get it. He hosted 120 Minutes on MTV. Oh, that guy. Yeah. God, I haven’t thought of him in forever. Wow, we’re old. Okay. He tipped me once.
Gave me 20 bucks for driving him around. That’s really nice. He was very nice. That’s nice. Very nice. He was- You just never know how people are gonna be … he was like, “I remember when I was part-time at a radio station and had to do things like this, and so, like, thank you.” He’s like, “And I know that you don’t get paid well-” Yeah
“because you’re in radio-” Yeah … “and you’re part-time, so here.” Even the full-timers don’t get paid well, so I can’t imagine what a part-timer’s doing. Here’s 20 bucks, kind sir. That was nice. Ash Pryor has her first live Pilates class. Yeah, it’s gonna be a 30-minute [00:53:00] advanced beginner, and it’s going to be on November 15th at 5:15 PM Eastern.
And then finally, Peloton partners with Northwestern Medicine for preventative walks. Yes, and, uh, that’s Kirsten Ferguson doing that class. I- interesting to note, though, that Adriene is also doing a 30-minute men’s health walk. That’s coming up next, and it’s part of a health-centered collection that they are doing.
So just interesting. I mean, aren’t all the classes health-centered? Yeah. I… There’s not enough coffee in the world. This week on the Clip Out, we talk about Peloton. Uh, side note one of, one of the people came by this week to do a quote on our house for painting. Yeah. And, uh, he had a lot of questions about the things in our house.
One of which was the podcast. Yeah. He has a Peloton, and he was like, [00:54:00] “But how do you have enough to talk about?” I was like, “Dude.” You’re like, “Girl.” I was. And then he asked about Kendall, and I expl- I had to explain to him what a trad wife was. It was… We had a whole conversation. It was fun. Oh, quite the journey.
It was quite the journey.
