New Peloton Content Preferences Reveal 3 Hidden Settings
Peloton Content Preferences Finally Let You Pick Favorites
Buried inside Settings, three new preference options let members choose favorite instructors, music genres, and activity types.
Peloton has quietly added a set of Content Preferences options that let members choose their favorite instructors, music genres, and activity types directly from the Settings menu. The feature has not been formally announced, and I happily stumbled upon it while poking around in Settings to update my FTP.
- Navigate to Settings from the Gear icon on the left of the Bike screen
- Then click on “Content Preferences”
Where to Find Peloton Content Preferences
The path is not obvious. From the Account menu, members need to navigate to Content Preferences, listed under Fitness Preferences alongside Fitness Goal and Personal Records. From there, three cards appear under Workout Preferences: Instructors, Music, and Activity Types, each showing a current status of “No preference” or a saved selection that appears to have been automatically generated from prior use.

The instructors list allows you to choose your preferences, versus obscuring instructors you don’t want to see.
Choosing Instructors and Music Under Peloton Content Preferences
Tapping into Instructors opens a full grid of every current Peloton instructor, with the option to mark favorites that Peloton says will be featured more often on the homepage, in Insights, and in Personalized Plans. Members anecdotally have asked for this kind of control for years, though the more common request has been the reverse: a way to filter out instructors a member prefers to avoid rather than promote the ones they already love.

The Music option works the same way, with genre cards for Alternative, Classic Rock, Country, Electronic, Hip Hop, Indie, Latin, Pop, R&B, and Rock. Selected genres are marked as favorites, and Peloton identifies “Top match” genres based on what a member already gravitates toward in classes taken. Here again, the request among members has often leaned toward exclusion. For me, it would be easier to click to exclude the genres I don’t care for in a workout, but the only current lever is to select the genres we do want, which nudges those choices higher in the mix rather than removing anything outright.

I thought my default was strange, omitting Cycling, which is my main modality, but I manually selected it along with the others to update.
The Activity Types Option Traces Back to Peloton IQ Insights
The third card, Activity Types, covers modality: Cycling, Running, Walking, Rowing, Strength, Yoga, Cardio, Stretching, Meditation, and the various Bootcamp formats. This option lines up closely with the Class Recommender system Peloton detailed in its earlier rollout of Peloton IQ Insights, which uses member data to generate AI suggested classes tied to stated goals. Peloton’s own engineering team has described how those insights get translated into concrete class filters, including modality, instructor, and duration, before being surfaced through the Class Recommender. A member manually setting Activity Type preferences under Peloton Content Preferences appears to feed that same filtering layer directly, giving members a way to shape the inputs Peloton IQ already uses behind the scenes.
That connection points to where this is likely headed. The Instructor and Music preferences are new territory, but Activity Types reads like an extension of infrastructure Peloton already built for AI-driven recommendations. As they have already leaned into personalized coaching as a retention strategy, quietly expanding the settings members can control themselves, without a launch announcement, suggests this is groundwork for a broader personalization push.
For now, the fastest way to see it is to go find it. Settings, Content Preferences, and the three cards are sitting there waiting.
