Speaker 2: [00:00:00] It’s more than just your output, more than a bike

Crystal: Welcome to the Clip Out Podcast, episode four… What are we on?

Tom: 86?

Crystal: Episode 486. This is Crystal O’Keefe.

Tom: And this is Tom O’Keefe. This must be how Kevin feels every week on Reel Spoilers.

Crystal: Oh, do you do that to him?

Tom: Where I’m like, “What number is this?”

Crystal: I think I do all the other things. You can come up with the episode number, ’cause-

Tom: And I did.

Tom: And I, but I can’t remember Reel Spoilers. I got- … one number I can keep in my head. I felt like Davy Jones at the beginning of Daydream Believer. “What number is this, Chip?” [00:01:00]

Crystal: Oh. “

Tom: 7A.” “What number?” “7A.” “Okay. Don’t get excited just ’cause I’m short.”

Crystal: Oh my God.

Tom: The whole thing works. If only this were episode 7A.

Crystal: If only.

Tom: If only, what would we, would we be talking about? Where’s the pause button?

Crystal: God, those were the days

Tom: Hey, there’s, oh, big news. The OPP’s up to 7,000 members. Oh

Crystal: my God. Back in the day. Back in the day. God, I really do miss those days. I really do.

Tom: Breaking news, the OPP is not a cesspool. So before we dig in, I mustache you a question.

Crystal: Oh, dear.

Tom: We have spotted another mustachioed instructor.

Crystal: Jeffrey.

Tom: It’s spreading.

Crystal: Jeffrey.

Tom: It’s-

Crystal: Stay away from Cody- … if this is what’s gonna [00:02:00] happen. It’s, it, it, I, I have to say, in my opinion- Uh-oh … my humble opinion- Here

Tom: we go …

Crystal: Jeffrey can carry it better- Yeah … than others.

Tom: Well.

Crystal: But, uh, I don’t know. I don’t know.

Crystal: That-

Tom: Maybe I’ll get rid of the goatee and just go straight stache.

Crystal: No. No. Also off limits, those big old burly beards. Gross. For people who, who like them and, and are into them, you do you. Yeah. They just really… Like, things get caught in them. Like, it is just such a… I’m not a facial hair person. Gotta keep that shit neat and clean and tidy.

Tom: Lucky I made the cut.

Crystal: Yeah. Yeah. Yours, yours works.

Tom: Okay.

Crystal: You keep it very neat and tidy.

Tom: All right.

Crystal: Very fastidious.

Tom: That’s- Yeah … that’s what people think of when they think of me. It’s fastidious. So what, pray tell, do you have in store for people this week?

Crystal: I don’t [00:03:00] even know. I got so distracted by the, the facial hair.

Tom: By my glorious facial hair?

Crystal: Yes. Yes.

Tom: Hey, it’s my body, it’s my choice.

Crystal: Oh, you’re right, ’cause you’re a man. Exactly. I’m so silly. It’s

Tom: Missouri. Come on.

Crystal: I’m so-

Tom: That’s the way

Crystal: it works … so silly. Uh, you know, I for- being a woman, it’s never our choice. So I, I forget that men have that option.

Tom: Oh, it’s fun. I highly recommend it.

Crystal: Yeah. It must be. I wouldn’t know. I wouldn’t know. So anyway, the list.

Tom: Sorry, was it, did I catch you off guard?

Crystal: Uh, no. It’s just, um, I have multiple browsers open, so I kind of forgot to have that part ready.

Tom: Both on your computer and in your brain.

Crystal: Yeah. Uh, you know what? It’s, life has been a little busy lately.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: So- It’s gonna get

Tom: busier.

Crystal: I know. Duh, duh. I can’t handle it. No worry. Don’t talk about it. Okay. All right. So we are gonna talk about the latest features that dropped on Peloton this week. One [00:04:00] of them is AI dubbing.

Tom: Mm-hmm.

Crystal: One of them is to be able to program moves that never get chosen on workouts that you make.

Crystal: Uh, and then we also are gonna be talking about the latest going on with the Peloton commercial series and the latest collaboration with Peloton apparel. We also, of course, have instructors in the news who did their first keynote this week.

Tom: Ooh.

Crystal: Yes. And then there were a ton of instructors that raced this weekend.

Crystal: Yeah. So we are gonna talk about some big finishes that happened. Okay. Not to mention the latest program celebration coming up, and who is celebrating 10 years this week. We’ve got some Tonal news, and of course, we’ve got some content. We’re gonna tell you your TCO top five. We’re gonna tell you about Rebuild is Back.

Crystal: Who are Adam Grant and Dr. Becky, and why do you care? I’m gonna tell you about that.

Tom: Okay.

Crystal: And, uh, we also have the latest deep dive, what’s going on with Rad Lopez and his [00:05:00] latest drop. We’ve got a whole bunch of stuff.

Tom: Okay. Well, before we get to all that, shameless plugs, don’t forget we’re available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeart.

Crystal: Mm-hmm.

Tom: Behind the scenes looks at what we do. Also, all sorts of extra,

Crystal: There’s some hot

Tom: goss … Peloton stuff, and sometimes it gets a little [00:06:00] gossipy-er- Oh

Tom: than we get here. A

Crystal: little hot goss.

Tom: Not like c- not prying.

Crystal: We’re not- No …

Tom: not necessarily teensy. Everything we talk

Crystal: about is, is-

Tom: Is front-facing.

Crystal: Yes.

Tom: Yes. But this week over there-

Crystal: Yeah …

Tom: we’ve got updates on former instructors, two of them. One- … a whole new career.

Crystal: I’m shell-shocked by this.

Tom: Yes. One has a whole new career.

Tom: Another one has a fun post about getting r- recognized, perhaps- … still.

Crystal: I have some feelings.

Tom: Okay. And, uh, there’s also an instructor having some ex drama.

Crystal: Yeah.

Tom: You know?

Crystal: Yeah.

Tom: And, uh, who’s got a new management team.

Crystal: Oh, I th- I missed that one.

Tom: Yeah. One of the instructors has a new management team. Oh. So we’ll be talking about all that over on the bonus.

Crystal: Look, we’re gonna be learning lots.

Tom: Yes. Yeah. And, uh, you can also sign up for the newsletter at- Uh, uh- Oh, what, what did

Crystal: I miss? I just… [00:07:00] No, you didn’t miss anything. The- The instructor ex drama, I know people are thinking it’s Adrian. It’s not.

Tom: It’s not.

Crystal: So- It is… It’s not.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: That’s all I’m gonna say about that.

Crystal: Look at that.

Tom: There’s a little, little clue.

Crystal: Mm-hmm.

Tom: So, uh, you can also sign up for the newsletter at theclipout.com where we will send you all the links and a mostly weekly reminder that we exist. And then, of course, finally, if you’re longing to know what we look like, you may do so over at YouTube, youtube.com/clipout.

Tom: Watch us, won’t you? So there’s all that. Let’s dig in, shall we?

Crystal: Oh, we were on YouTube, so you know what I should do?

Tom: Oh, I hate the sparkle fingers. I do too. I don’t know if that’s what it’s called, but that- I don’t

Crystal: know what it’s called

Tom: either … that’s what I’m calling it.

Crystal: It is really annoying

Tom: though. I hate it.

Tom: It’s suddenly everywhere. I called it out about six months ago- Yeah … and was like, “What is this?”

Crystal: And it’s, it is everywhere. Did you say, “Shall we”?

Tom: I did say, “Shall we?”

Crystal: We shall.

Tom: Oh, okay. Let’s get to shalling.

[00:08:00]

Tom: so Peloton has introduced a new feature that allows you to avoid certain moves.

Crystal: Yeah.

Tom: So in a way, in a way-

Crystal: In a way …

Tom: in a way I am a trendsetter

Crystal: Because you avoid moves

Tom: I’ve been avoiding every one of these moves For 10 years. Where’s my Peloversary?

Crystal: That’s a good point. Not working out for 10 years.

Crystal: Not working out on Peloton for 10 years.

Tom: Thank y’all.

Crystal: You’re welcome.

Tom: You’re welcome. You’re welcome. This is a pretty, uh… Seriously though, this is a pretty handy little feature I bet.

Crystal: It is, yeah. Okay, so first of all, let me just say where you find it. This is in your settings on your apps. Mm-hmm. Um, you have to go into your settings, and then it’s you have profile, memberships, yada, yada.

Crystal: Underneath preferences, you will see [00:09:00] content preferences. We’ve talked about that before. That’s where you can choose which instructors you like, which instructors you don’t like. But now they have added mobility, and when you go into the different mobility settings, they have movement preferences, and they have a place where you can set movements to avoid.

Crystal: So if y- Let’s l- These are just some examples that they have on here. Bending forward, maybe that doesn’t work for you. Right. Maybe you can’t do deep knee bending. Maybe, uh, you can’t do any jumping and high impact. There’s all kinds of things, including pelvic floor and core pressure, side to side movements, twisting, weighted hinging.

Crystal: Tons of great options to be able to say. So you will have these, They will affect your recommendations, and they will flag movements within classes. Okay. So I don’t know how this plays out in a class that’s already designed.

Tom: Right.

Crystal: What I think this could be more for is helping you choose [00:10:00] classes up front.

Tom: Right.

Crystal: And I think it also could be for putting things in place to be able to make classes through AI. Mm-hmm. You know, where you can, like, set things, and these will be some of the, the options that you have that are taken off the table. So either way, really curious to see what they do with it- Yeah … and how they’re doing it.

Crystal: It just showed up randomly. Elizabeth found it in her settings.

Tom: Good job, Elizabeth.

Crystal: Lord only knows what else they have in there.

Tom: Employee of the week. She’s an employee.

Crystal: She gets a big raise.

Tom: Yeah. Helper bee of the week.

Crystal: Buzz. Yes. She’s a power bee. I tell you what- … our helper bees, our helper bees have been through a year.

Crystal: We have had a year. If you guys know anybody out there that wants to write some articles not get paid very well, and have a great time doing it- … we are your people. Uh, we need people. And, um, we s- we- We bees … we failed spectacularly this summer with everyone- … we tried to hire. It was, like, one disaster after [00:11:00] another.

Crystal: To nobody… Really, it was nobody’s even fault. Yeah. But anyway I say all that because I mean, Jen Kern and Elizabeth Schlossberg have, they have basically kept all the articles alive for the clip-out for months. Yeah. Like, it’s these ladies, if there’s 100 articles we write in a month, then I guarantee you those two wrote 80 of them.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: I don’t even know how they do it.

Tom: I wrote an article one time.

Crystal: Yeah, and you got paid for it.

Tom: No, I didn’t.

Crystal: Yes, you did. I sent you the money. I did. I did send you the money.

Tom: Oh, that

Crystal: was

Tom: silly.

Crystal: It was … I mean, I figured it was coming back one way or another. So I wasn’t really worried about it. It was the point, ’cause you were like, “I wrote an article.”

Tom: Look at me. I’m a helper bee.

Crystal: Yep, your name’s still on the little monthly list.

Tom: You’re like, you’re, you’re a helper

Crystal: ant.

Tom: I hope to one day be promoted to help her uncle.

Crystal: Oh.

Tom: So, but this is a great feature-

Crystal: Yeah, it is …

Tom: uh, if you’re [00:12:00] injured.

Crystal: Yeah.

Tom: Or, I bet it’s also probably very helpful if you have other-

Crystal: Yeah, like- Like- I mean, there’s so many things this could apply to. This could apply to people who have disabilities.

Tom: Right.

Crystal: This could apply to people who are, I mean, pregnant. Yeah. This could apply to people, like you said, who are recovering from an injury, post-surgery. Uh, there’s-

Tom: People who are just kinda lazy. Let’s not, uh-

Crystal: I mean-

Tom: That’s okay, too.

Crystal: It is okay. You’re

Tom: still doing something.

Crystal: Yeah, that’s true. You know?

Crystal: That’s true. Movement

Tom: is good. You’re like, “I don’t wanna do that one.”

Crystal: Yeah. That’s what you do on Tonal all the time. I see you over there-

Tom: I swap

Crystal: out my moves …

Tom: switching up movements. I swap out my moves.

Crystal: You still doing the work, though.

Tom: I still do ’em. That’s right. I just do different moves.

Crystal: I know.

Tom: So.

Crystal: I see you, though.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: I see you.

Tom: Some of ’em ugh

Crystal: Is this gonna be the barbell front squat?

Tom: No, I just, as I started saying that, I was like, “I just sound like a kind of a douche.” But, like- … some of the weight has gotten so heavy-

Crystal: No, it’s a real thing … that- It, it is a real thing because on Tonal it, [00:13:00] what’s awesome about it is that the weight doesn’t kick in till you turn it on.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: However, what’s also tough about that is because the, it, you’re using your hands for everything-

Tom: Yeah …

Crystal: you also have to have tremendous grip strength as your body, like, as your body is able to handle lar- larger loads, you also need to be able to carry those loads in your hands. And I mean, you have…

Crystal: Stop it.

Tom: What?

Crystal: Stop. I

Tom: didn’t say a

Crystal: word. Your face did.

Tom: My face was silent.

Crystal: Bullshit. So you also have to be able to, as you max things out, like on the Tonal too, you can, each arm can do up to 125 pounds. Yeah. That’s a lot of grip strength. Yeah. That’s a lot.

Tom: Yeah, and so some of them it’s just, I can feel it, like, shaking.

Crystal: Yeah.

Tom: Like-

Crystal: And you don’t wanna punch yourself in the face.

Tom: Yeah, or like, God forbid, my s- I slip, and it go… So it’s like, there’s been a lot of things where I’m just like, “No, I’m gonna, I need to hold this in a different way,” and so I make adaptive choices.

Crystal: As [00:14:00] you should. Quit ju- You do you.

Tom: Quit judging me.

Crystal: You have to pay attention to what works for you.

Tom: Yes.

Crystal: Yeah. So at any rate, wow, it’s not even the bonus, and we have deep- Yes … rabbit holed twice.

Tom: So Peloton is introducing AI dubbing.

Crystal: They are, yeah. So now you’re gonna be able to, certain classes- Mm-hmm … this is not widespread-

Tom: Right …

Crystal: yet at all, and in fact, most of us can’t even find it.

Crystal: But what should be happening is that you’re going to be able to, for certain classes, take it in English. It will be using AI to dub classes in other languages, they’re dubbed into English. So let’s say there’s a German class you really wanna take.

Tom: Mm-hmm.

Crystal: You would then be able-

Tom: But you don’t speak the German.

Crystal: You don’t speak the German, but you still wanna hear it as well as you can.

Tom: Right.

Crystal: AI can now dub those.

Tom: Do we know?

Crystal: Probably not.

Tom: Okay,

Crystal: thanks. We know very little about this.

Tom: I was just wondering, have they fed the instructors’ voices into AI to where it’s [00:15:00] mimicking their voices, or is it just a generic voice?

Crystal: I don’t know for sure, but I suspect that they did. And the reason I say that is because so much of what the tools that we see and we use, it’s like a dime a dozen out there to like im- like to be able to use, hear a voice and make it sound similar.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: So I think that- My guess is that’s what they’re doing.

Crystal: Gotcha. I don’t, I do not know that for sure.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: It’s just a guess on my part.

Tom: And, and then my next question I would have-

Crystal: All right …

Tom: which I know you wouldn’t have the answer to.

Crystal: Okay, good.

Tom: But I’m just fascinated to know the choices they make. If they’re dubbing, let’s say, a German instructor into English-

Crystal: Mm-hmm

Tom: okay?

Crystal: Yeah

Tom: Will they have an American accent? Will they have an English accent? Will they have a German accent?

Crystal: Yeah, that’s a

Tom: good question. Like, how will they do that?

Crystal: That they should make it sound similar to whoever the instructor is. So if they’re going from German to English, and it’s let’s say Jeffrey, he [00:16:00] has a slight accent.

Crystal: Yeah. Um, I mean, an appropriate German accent. We should hear that coming through.

Tom: Right.

Crystal: We should. I mean, that’s how it should work.

Tom: And, and so that makes sense because he also speaks English, so you know what his English-speaking voice- Yes … is like. So what if it’s an instructor who doesn’t also speak English?

Tom: Or I would think eventually they’ll probably do it the other way, too, right? Like- I, I

Crystal: would, I would assume that’s where this is headed, yes …

Tom: you know. And but, and then it will- we will also look forward to all the weird translation things. Yes. Because it’s like, I’m thinking of someone like Cody-

Crystal: Yeah …

Tom: who I’m thinking probably uses lots of, like- Slang and, yep

Tom: slang and idioms- Mm-hmm … that maybe won’t translate so readily.

Crystal: Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. I mean, that, that will happen. And I’m sure it happens even, you know, I’m sure it happens to any instructor- Yeah … uh, from any language. I say that because at work we have to deal with this all the time. We, we localize our courses to all- Right

Crystal: these other countries, and [00:17:00] things that you don’t even think of- Right … do not translate well. Yeah. Like for example abbreviations. You know, a l- uh, we Americans love to use our, our words that have … They m- they give you a m- a mnemonic device- Uh-huh … that help you remember more than one thing, and it, it, like let’s say it smells out, it spells out Smurf.

Crystal: Right. Well, Smurf means nothing- Right … in any other language other than English.

Tom: And the words that go with each of those letter might-

Crystal: Probably mean nothing … might

Tom: be different words. Yeah.

Crystal: And all of our jargon means nothing- Yeah … in most languages.

Tom: And there’s a lot of just little things that have crept into the language that are very maybe sports-based.

Tom: Like, “Oh, he hit a home run.”

Crystal: Oh, good point. Yeah. You

Tom: know?

Crystal: Yeah. There’s a lot of that gets pushed back, too. Yeah, we have to be really careful about it, so I’m sure … A- and listen, this is gonna be using AI, so no one’s going to be checking it. Right. So it is going to be insane.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: And it’s probably gonna sound insane.

Crystal: Like, if you had a Cody Rigsby, you know, that’s dubbed into Spanish or something.

Tom: Right.

Crystal: D- doesn’t that just sound crazy? The way that he just, [00:18:00] his cadence of his voice and the way that he talks to people.

Tom: It seems like that would, he would be a, an instructor that would be very difficult to translate like that.

Crystal: I, I foresee, I foresee videos being cut- Yes … and made fun of on the internet. I concur. I, I foresee that that will happen.

Tom: Yes.

Crystal: Yeah.

Tom: So, Emma Lovewell was demoing the Peloton commercial series. I’m assuming by demo, they mean- Demonstrating and not demolishing.

Crystal: Correct.

Tom: Okay.

Crystal: Correct.

Tom: I was picturing her with a sledgehammer like, “I’m sick of Peloton commercial.”

Crystal: You think that’s where she would go,

Tom: huh? Only Peloton residential.

Crystal: They did a, they did a Peloton commercial series demo and, uh, it was specifically for the commercial bike and the commercial tread. They did it at an in-house showcase. So I think that the way that they did this is, you know how we got to go get…

Crystal: I got to go do a close-up look at the new tread- Mm-hmm … unveiling? I think- I recall … I think that’s what this is. Yeah. But it’s for specifically commercial.

Tom: Gotcha.

Crystal: So they had, like, a version of this. [00:19:00] And and so this was at Peloton HQ, and she was saying there were a lot of things that stood out to her.

Crystal: The touchscreens that she sh- she was showing, for example- Mm-hmm … they, uh, showed the choices being laid out in a really simple way for non-members to be able to quickly access content. ‘Cause keep in mind, this is commercial, so- Right … they’re trying to do outreach to people who- Sure

Crystal: don’t have Peloton accounts. So- Yeah … the tread home screen listed classes, a quick start. You know, like, like old school treadmills have been at, at, uh, gyms for years. Oh, okay. You just quick start and it just goes straight into walking, or straight into- Oh,

Tom: okay …

Crystal: you know. Uh, Tom’s like, “I’ve never done that in my life.”

Crystal: This is new

Tom: information.

Crystal: Yeah. Uh-

Tom: I’ve never started, quickly or otherwise.

Crystal: You have. One time, one time we went- One time … to the Y. I

Tom: lost

Crystal: a bet. Remember? And, uh, we did use the treadmills there.

Tom: I’m… why they call it that.

Crystal: Yeah. ‘

Tom: Cause the whole time I was like, “

Crystal: Why?”

Tom: Why? Why am I here?

Crystal: There’s also, uh, the scenic run and the entertainment, and the, the [00:20:00] entertainment also has streaming TV, movies, and live sports.

Crystal: The sign-in screen offers everything, so you get to all of your, your full breadth of classes.

Tom: Mm-hmm.

Crystal: The new workouts being added directly, or, uh, daily, excuse me. You also have your, of course, Peloton exclusive content, like artist series theme classes, those things first for members. But if you’re a guest, you also get to give a s- get access to a sample of content, which includes up to 50 instructor-led classes, and, uh, that guest option lines up with guest mode that Peloton had described when the orders opened.

Crystal: So Emma did all of that. She also taught a live Pilates class for people while she was there. And, uh, then, uh, we are going to continue to see this roll out. We’ve been seeing this at the HFA show, we saw it at FIBO in Cologne. We… And they opened orders on September 22nd. So I know I’ve said this about a billion times- Mm-hmm

Crystal: but I continue to be happy that they are finally [00:21:00] doing this. For sure. I really think it’s gonna be good for Peloton.

Tom: Absolutely. Peloton Apparel has collaborated with Stay Cool.

Crystal: They have.

Tom: Mission accomplished, Peloton Apparel. I have stayed cool.

Crystal: Uh, this was a new collection that was specifically for the marathon, and I guess this is their second collab.

Crystal: I guess I missed the first one. Oops. Ah. And, uh, th- there were six limited edition pieces that dropped and they appear to be things like sweats, and they’re, they’re cute. Three hoodies, three sweatpants. Um, and again, it’s for the, uh, marathon coming up.

Tom: Maybe the first collection was called Be Cool-

Crystal: Maybe that’s what

Tom: it was

Tom: and then this one is Stay Cool.

Crystal: Right. I th- It’s

Tom: based-

Crystal: I think it’s Stay Cool is the brand name, so I don’t think they would’ve- Oh … changed it just for the first-

Tom: It’s a collaboration based entirely on things people sign in your high school yearbook

Crystal: Yes. That was it.

Tom: Looking forward to their Peloton apparel collaboration with Don’t Ever Change.

Crystal: [00:22:00] Love

Tom: ya. And have a kick-ass summer.

Crystal: Oh, yes.

Tom: That’ll be a- Yes … that’ll be a good one.

Crystal: It will.

Tom: Lots of shorts and tank tops I envision.

Crystal: Oh, hey, maybe they’ll be considered whores, too.

Tom: Hi, I’m Shane Gillis. So coming up after this-

Crystal: Yeah …

Tom: more hot takes. And instructors in the news. We’re gonna talk about who gave the first keynote.

Tom: Couple different instructors scoring big finishes in marathons and similar things. And we got somebody celebrating 10 years with Peloton, so stick around.

Tom: Mariana Fernandez has given her first keynote

Crystal: Okay. Well, it’s actually happening right now because it was- So

Tom: by the time they’re hearing this-

Crystal: Yeah. Okay, okay.

Tom: That’s fair … I am correct. Apology accepted.

Crystal: It is at the Salvation Army Kroc Conference [00:23:00] in Scottsdale, Arizona, and, um, she is leading a health and wellness session.

Crystal: And it is also ki- this has something to do with, uh, Pre-Corps. Okay. So it’s another one where they’re pushing the commercial piece of it. Right. I can’t believe this is her first keynote. People are freaking missing out. This lady is a gem. Yeah. Like, a real gem. Like, she should be at all the keynotes because she literally pumps people up every time you take a class with her.

Crystal: She’s like, “We can do this,” you know? So anyway

Tom: Well, good. I’m glad that she’s getting out there more. I know the people that do engage with her positively love her. She’s a gem. We see comments all the time on Reddit where somebody’s like, “Boy, this Mariana Fernandez,” and then it’s just like people raving about her.

Crystal: Yep. She’s awesome. She really is. But anyway, congrats to her. That’s very cool. They, we listed out the whole, like, conference, uh, schedule, but most of us aren’t going, so most of us don’t care. [00:24:00]

Tom: Uh, Marcel Dinkins and Kirsten Ferguson both scored big finishes over the weekend.

Crystal: Yeah, and, and since then we actually wrote an article that was more accurate because we had, uh, several instructors that were racing this weekend in different races.

Crystal: Mm-hmm. So Marcel she did her first triathlon. It was called the Big Apple Triathlon. Um-

Tom: And where was that held?

Crystal: Oh, I think it was Wisconsin.

Tom: Okay.

Crystal: Yeah. Definitely New York. And sh- this was a really special thing because this is a great example of instructors walking the walk and talking the talk.

Crystal: Mm-hmm. She was really afraid of open water swimming, and she tackled that.

Tom: Yeah, get that. Yeah.

Crystal: And she crushed her first triathlon.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: That’s, you know… I know I, we’ve told, we’ve talked about this before, but it’s like you think of these instructors, they’re amazing athletes, so they can do anything.

Crystal: Sure,

Tom: it’ll be easy.

Crystal: And, uh-

Tom: They have no stress over things like this. They’re in great shape.

Crystal: And [00:25:00] she had talked about how she was afraid, and she did it anyway, and we are just so incredibly proud of her. And, uh, there, she has a whole fan group called Marcel’s Army, and, uh, she calls herself your designated hype person.

Crystal: That’s what she says. Mm-hmm. So there was a lot going on in the comments about her designated harp- hype group and, yeah, it was pretty great. So, uh, when we posted about it, she was like, “Aw, this means so much.” Like I, I think sometimes the instructors lose sight of how awesome we think they are, you know?

Crystal: Yeah. And, uh, so it’s really cool to lift them up like that.

Tom: Uh, Jess Sims is-

Crystal: Whoa, whoa, whoa.

Tom: What?

Crystal: Well, we didn’t even talk about the other one.

Tom: Well, you sounded like you were done, so I was letting you be done.

Crystal: Well, with Marcel. I haven’t even talked about the other instructors. Sorry.

Tom: So tell me about, uh, the other instructors.

Crystal: Uh, so

Tom: sh- This all got taken out in post, I’m sure. Sure. I’ll never hear any of this.

Crystal: No.

Tom: Uh, I’ll look much better. Thank you.

Crystal: Okay. That’s probably gonna stay. Uh, so Kirsten Ferguson also [00:26:00] ran the Chicago Marathon this weekend. Crushed it, of course. As the lead-up to that, she also had a meetup at the Sunglass Hut, and, uh, you could go there to set your intentions.

Crystal: She does her in- intention setting Sunday classes. Oh. Uh, so you got to go there, meet Kirsten and that was on Friday from 12:00 to 2:00. And, uh, this was her second marathon. You know, I remember very clearly after her first one she was like- Never again … never again. And then what do you find? We- Again

Crystal: we’re, here we are.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: Kirsten also ran a PR in Chicago.

Tom: Oh.

Crystal: I know it was, quote-unquote, “only her second marathon,” but, like, to be able to improve from one race to the other is pretty incredible.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: And then Su-

Tom: Especially ’cause she’s already starting at such a high level-

Crystal: Right …

Tom: as a, as a, a fitness professional, right?

Tom: Fitness is her life, so she’s, she’s coming in at a, a v- it’s, even though it’s [00:27:00] her first marathon, it’s not like she was couch to marathon, right?

Crystal: Absolutely. Yeah. And I think it’s also important to note that this was one of the hottest marathons in Chicago- Mm … on record.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: That’s a big difference, so she- Yeah

Crystal: adjusted her goal as they were, like, as it got closer to the race, it became clear that it was not going to be the conditions that she had expected. She adjusted her goal and still came in with a PR. That’s incredible. And, you know, earlier this year, she also ran the New York Half and got a PR on that, too.

Crystal: So, like, she’s just having a killer year. Being in love really sits well with her. I’m just-

Tom: That’s why you did so well in your marathon.

Crystal: Obviously.

Tom: But then you haven’t ran a second one, so. Little bit of me goes a long way. I know that’s not a shock to any of our listening.

Crystal: Oh. Um, but also, we had some other races this weekend that we want to make sure that we talk about because Susie Chan and J- Jeffrey McEachern ran the Oxford Half [00:28:00] in England, and then Selena Samuela raced the Staten Island Half in New York.

Crystal: So, like, the instructors were everywhere this weekend. There-

Tom: Do you think when Susie Chan runs a half marathon, does she even get sweaty?

Crystal: Yes, I know that she does because I’ve taken 45-minute classes with her, and she gets sweaty- Oh, yeah … within the first 10 minutes. But it’s a fair question. I think Susie would laugh really hard if she heard you say that because, uh, she has been saying all year that this, this last couple of years has been really hard for her running-wise.

Crystal: Yeah. Like, she just hasn’t been feeling it, especially this year, and, um, that she’s trying to find a place that, like, running is more enjoyable- Yeah … again. And-

Tom: I just feel like every third story about Susie Chan is like, “She ran an ultramarathon.”

Crystal: I know. I know.

Tom: Susie Chan ran the circumference of the earth.

Tom: And then it’s like-

Crystal: If she put her mind to it, she could. I

Tom: know it. And then she’s like… And then we get, like, half-marathon. I’m like, is that even worth bringing up? Like, it’s not like I ran a [00:29:00] half-marathon. Like, that would be a big deal. Susie Chan and the half-marathon? Big whoop.

Crystal: Well, you know-

Tom: And I mean that in the best possible way.

Crystal: It’s like, you know, even, even for somebody who’s such a stellar athlete, it’s like, it’s still a training run, you know? Yeah. And she did it with Jeffrey, so, like, they were out there together. They seem to be genuine friends outside of work as well. Yeah. And they do a lot of these, these engagements together, and I think that’s really cool and fun that they have so much fun together.

Tom: Absolutely. So is that all the instructors-

Crystal: Well, I will- …

Tom: that we need to talk about? I will just- I don’t wanna get chastised again.

Crystal: Yeah. Well, one more thing.

Tom: Oh, here we go.

Crystal: I will add that it was also Susie and Jeffrey posted that they were late to the start. So, like, they were late getting to the race.

Crystal: Susie, in her book- She still won … talks about how they, Like, she doesn’t, she is not a type A when it comes to running and planning for things. And so, somehow they ended up being late and, like, they were jogging just to get to the start line. Yeah. And she was like, “Adding that extra mileage [00:30:00] to your marathon.”

Crystal: And they still finished. Yeah. They still got it all done. But yeah, I thought that was kind of funny.

Tom: That’s kind of my version of that.

Crystal: How? What?

Tom: Is… Well, she was late and then they still-

Crystal: Oh …

Tom: my version of that-

Crystal: Oh, is walking into a trivia contest …

Tom: the trivia contest. Remember one trivia contest where we showed up and we missed the first two questions?

Tom: Yes. And then we still ended up winning?

Crystal: Yeah, people were unhappy.

Tom: They were… It was… You could tell we were at sea- … ’cause they were salty. They did not like that I got all the answers. And I actually had to correct them on one. Like, technically that’s not true. Actually.

Crystal: Yeah, you did do the actually. Yeah.

Tom: But I was right.

Tom: Jess Sims-

Crystal: At least you said it in a funny manner.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: So.

Tom: I tried to be.

Crystal: Yeah.

Tom: Yeah. Jess Sims-

Crystal: Yeah. Yeah …

Tom: is having a Do Hard Things celebration.

Crystal: Go ahead, get it out. No,

Tom: I, I,

Crystal: what? I just- What? Get it out of your system.

Tom: Why is your mind always in the gutter?

Crystal: My mind? Yes, uh, they are [00:31:00] having a celebration.

Crystal: It’s on October 18th, and it is an invite only. How can you be invited? Yeah, you really can’t. It is… The decision has already been made. Although- That ship has sailed … although I did see-

Tom: Mm-hmm …

Crystal: so Jess Sims has one of those I always forget what they’re called, but they’re in the Instagram piece. Like, you can have like a channel that you talk to your followers directly.

Tom: Okay.

Crystal: And she has one that’s, that’s called Do Hard Things.

Tom: Okay.

Crystal: I was just waiting to see. So she has one called that, and she was saying she was asking people who has never been to the New York studio, and she had some ideas on how to choose her two guests. She got to choose two guests. Um, so if you belong to that, that is one way to potentially get in.

Crystal: Gotcha. Uh, hopefully you’ve been paying attention and you’re answering, um, because that would be the only other way that you could get in. That’s how you get- If you haven’t gotten your invite, it’s not happening.

Tom: That’s how you get the tap.

Crystal: Yeah.

Tom: Gotcha.

Crystal: Yeah.

Tom: Matt Wilpers celebrating 10 years with [00:32:00] Peloton.

Tom: First ever guest on the Clif

Crystal: Out. First ever guest, and like, I know that he logically had to have been here 10 years because we’ve been doing the podcast for 10 years, but that was bonkers- Yeah … to see. I was like, W- What?”

Tom: Yeah. Well, I guess nine.

Crystal: Okay, but we- Nine and a half, I guess … nine and a half, yeah.

Crystal: Coming up on 10. We’re coming up on 10. Yeah. So I just was pretty shocked by that. And you know, instructors start about six months before they start teaching, so at least six months. Yeah. So like, that… It’s, it still works. But at any rate yeah, 10 years. Congrats to Matt Wilpers. Rem- remember back then they used to call him Baby Face Assassin.

Crystal: So he’s, he’s no longer baby faced. Do

Tom: people say, still say they got Wilper’d?

Crystal: I haven’t heard that in a long time. Yeah. Not saying it doesn’t happen, but I think it’s, like so many things, like we’ll talk about in the bonus, there was a, the… We have an ins- an instructor who’s no longer with Peloton who has changed careers, as you alluded to earlier.

Crystal: I got a message from somebody with this news, and they literally said to me, “I couldn’t think of anybody… Like, who [00:33:00] was the… You were the first person that popped into my head that who still does Peloton from 2017.” Like, times have changed a lot- Yeah … since then. Yeah. So, yeah we’ve come a long way.

Tom: That we have.

Tom: Tonal has partnered with WeWork.

Crystal: Yeah, I think this is super cool. Um- Yeah, that’s

Tom: interesting …

Crystal: so far, they’re, they’re only in nine locations. Okay. But they are partnering with these specific locations, so you can go in and use a Tonal at any of these locations.

Crystal: There’s three, five in California. Mm-hmm. Uh, there’s two in Seattle, there’s one in Portland, and then there’s one in Austin, Texas. Uh, but I suspect that as, you know, you’re, as this gains in popularity, if it goes well, we’re gonna see it happen in more.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: Uh, also, if you go to these locations and you check out a Tonal, you also get an exclusive pricing discount- Ooh

Crystal: on Tonal purchases. Yeah. So-

Tom: So do you actually have to, [00:34:00] like, like rent a workspace, and then you can al- or will they just let anybody walk in and utilize one?

Crystal: Dude, I didn’t dig that deep.

Tom: I was just curious.

Crystal: Yeah.

Tom: Okay.

Crystal: I don’t know.

Tom: Thanks for pulling that up.

Crystal: Sorry.

Tom: That’s what we’re here for.

Crystal: Look- …

Tom: I’m

Crystal: doing my best to keep up on everything.

Crystal: I really am. Just wait till we get into some of these deeper articles, ’cause some of this stuff, I have no idea what’s happening. I am… We’re gonna be learning together, folks.

Tom: Fun. Well, I can’t wait until after this when we can learn together. We will learn about the TCO Top 5. We will learn about the Halloween schedule, more Turkey Burn countdown classes.

Tom: Oh, there’s oh so much- … just on the other side of this

Tom: It is time for the TCO Top Five. Every week we put out the eagle call for the best classes o’ the week, and you [00:35:00] respond. Oh, do you respond. Then we use a hyper-complex algorithm that uses almost 35,000 gallons of water- What? … to determine which classes are the best. Then we take 10 of those classes, we put all 10 in a hat, and then for some reason we spin a wheel and select the five.

Tom: And here we are with the TCO Top Five. Are you ready, Crystal?

Crystal: I fell asleep. That was a long-ass explanation.

Tom: Number one.

Tom: Your favorite outdoor walk

Crystal: This was taught by, uh, Kirsten Ferguson. She had a 30-minute World Mental Health Day walk that was posted on 10/10. And Tiffany Cortez nominated this class, and she said it was very [00:36:00] uplifting and encouraging. Walking outside and listening to Kirsten and the great playlist is sure to help anyone feel a little bit better.

Crystal: And then Robin Luthy chimed in and said she loved it, too. Her personal stories about not feeling qualified even for her Peloton job were inspiring, especially as Robin continues to explore the next step in her career. That’s nice.

Tom: Yeah. Uh, number two, it’s an endurance ride. It is. Not unlike listening to me on this episode.

Crystal: It was… This was taught by Matt Wilpers back in July, and it was a 75 p- minute power zone endurance Karen Smith nominated this class, and she said that Matt always has great coaching tips, but she saw a sassy side of Matt she doesn’t think she’s seen before. “Tip of the day: get your electrolytes in on long rides. If you know, you know. As always, a great endurance ride with my favorite Power Zone instructor.”

Tom: But did she get Wilford?

Crystal: I haven’t seen it long time. That’s the question. It’s a good question.

Tom: Number [00:37:00] three, it’s a progression ride.

Crystal: Yes, and this was taught by Emma Lovewell on October 11th. It was a 30-minute progression ride. And Daisy Mack, Daisy Mack Mack she said that this class makes you question the clock.

Crystal: 120 seconds does not seem like that long until you hear- until you’re la- in the last interval and it’s the challenging one. Smile Like You Mean It by The Killers was the Easter egg, and then Emma took our breath away. Weekend song reference, but very accurate. What ride is this? It was Emma’s progression ride.

Crystal: All of– all intervals were two minutes in length, progressing from easy, moderate, challenging, and the real bad decisions. The Strokes was the decision to keep the cadence 90 to 110 and repeat that three times. Woof.

Tom: But not the unstackable.

Crystal: No.

Tom: Okay.

Crystal: No.

Tom: Number four is a Halloween strength class.

Crystal: Yeah, this is, uh, this is taught by Andy [00:38:00] Speer, and it’s one of last year’s classes.

Crystal: Okay. So we’re going back.

Tom: Okay.

Crystal: It’s a 20-minute Halloween full body strength taught on October 24th. Dark Peloton nominated this class and said that it was an absolute favorite. You can’t go wrong with Candy Andy. It was the fir- perfect mix of festive vibes and a solid sweaty burn. A spooky season treat for the muscles.

Crystal: Not to mention ghost emojis. I love it.

Tom: And finally, number five, the class so difficult you dare not stack it. We call it an unstackable.

Crystal: This class was nominated by Rosalyn.

Tom: It’s your favorite speed training ride. If you have never watched this on YouTube, you need to go there right now just to watch the face she gave me.

Crystal: There’s no need to call out my faces

Crystal: Uh-

Tom: That face was so loud, they probably heard it on the podcast.

Crystal: This was [00:39:00] taught by Christian Vande Velde, and it was, uh, back in February. It was a 45-minute pro cyclist speed training class. Rosalyn Arntzen,

Tom: she- I’m glad there’s finally pro cycl- cyclists ’cause I’m tired of all the anti-cyclist stuff we’ve been getting.

Crystal: It’s true.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: Yeah. She nominated this class and said it was definitely an unstackable. She loves Christian’s programming and his wife was also in the class, but she doesn’t think she’s ever done over 100 in zone four. “Great class, but whoa.” “All I could do was a stretch after, and I usually do a five-minute cool down.”

Tom: Moving on to the rest of the content you should be focused on- Mm-hmm … or at least aware of.

Crystal: Okay.

Tom: It’s probably dangerous to focus on all of it. That’s a bit much.

Crystal: Yeah, I would definitely agree with that.

Tom: The Halloween schedule was leaked.

Crystal: It was, yeah. So there’s, um, I don’t know that it was really leaked, I just, we’re just not really sure that the instructors are supposed to post it this early.

Crystal: Yeah. So I guess technically that is a [00:40:00] leak.

Crystal: So we have, uh, Greta and Johanna both posted on their stories. We’re going to have the first ever Pilates two-for-one, and it’s Greta and Johanna. Ah. Uh, there’s also going to be, uh, Rebecca is going to have a full body strength. Chelsea is going to have a yoga flow.

Crystal: Matt is going to have a 60-minute Halloween power zone endurance. Maddie’s Halloween walk and talk will be dropping on demand on Friday, October 30th, and he is teasing who will show up this year.

Tom: Mm-mm.

Crystal: Hmm. So lots to look forward to.

Tom: Speaking of looking forward to seasonal classes-

Crystal: Mm-hmm. Yes …

Tom: we have more Turkey Burn countdown classes.

Tom: Last week we just had one, but now we’ve got the full slate.

Crystal: Yeah, uh, Andy has a full body, which is week one, day one, and then Ash Pryor has a row, and then Zacharias has a core that’s coming up, so days two and three. So those are this week’s countdown to Turkey Burn.

Tom: Dennis [00:41:00] Morton has a deep dive. This time it’s focusing on Purple Rain.

Crystal: Yeah. You know what? I don’t know what songs are on this album.

Tom: Oh, no, Purple Rain, I mean, I believe- I

Crystal: mean, I know Purple Rain is on the

Tom: album … Purple Rain’s on it.

Crystal: I do know that one. Oh. But I, like, I don’t know all the songs that are on it. Sometimes I hear an album and I’m like, I know every song. Yeah. In this one I know none- No

Tom: except

Crystal: for Purple Rain.

Tom: No. When Doves Cries on there. Oh, okay. Okay. Let’s Go Crazy’s on there.

Crystal: Don’t know that.

Tom: No, you know-

Crystal: I don’t know it by ear …

Tom: Dearly Beloved weird-

Crystal: Oh, okay.

Tom: Yeah. I know

Crystal: that. Okay.

Tom: Uh, what else? With apologies to Head Helper Bee, Darling Nikki is on there. There’s other big ones. Okay.

Tom: But yeah, no, that’s, I mean, it’s practically a greatest hits.

Crystal: Wow.

Tom: It’s like, it’s, oh, it’s like all killer, no filler.

Crystal: Okay.

Tom: Rad Lopez launching the Dirty 30.

Crystal: Yeah, in-

Tom: Do that in con- action, conjunction with Do Hard Things.

Crystal: Oh my God. Oh. Stop it. So this is a 30-minute signature series that Rad is [00:42:00] p- is launching.

Crystal: It starts on, it started on October 10th, and, uh, Peloton posted an explainer about it. Rad also did a fireside chat at the Houseparty Festival. And then I also thought this was interesting because Peloton sent out a bunch of like press releases about it as well. Mm-hmm. And I was just like, why do s- th- this is not like a criticism.

Crystal: Right. It’s a genuine question. Why do some classes get this- Rate this- … and some don’t? And others don’t. Yeah. No, yeah, sure. It’s, it’s, I’m just like, why? But it’s all about metabolic conditioning, which is something we all need- Mm … but one of the m- hardest workouts to do because you’re really pushing your body on all levels, and I hate them so much.

Crystal: And, and that just shows that I need them. Yeah. Like it’s the hardest, it, to me, metabolic conditioning, so.

Tom: You know you have the Turkey Burn on Thanksgiving. I really think they should’ve saved Dirty 30 for Valentine’s Day.

Crystal: Oh, Tom.

Tom: What? Just saying. [00:43:00]

Crystal: Okay

Tom: Peloton spotlights World Mental Health Day.

Crystal: Yeah, there were a ton of new classes, 14 of them, and, uh, this, I think that took place on the 10th.

Crystal: I think that was the day that World Mental Health Day was. Um, Ben Aldous wrote a personal post about his World Mental Health Day ride. Mm-hmm. And then Bex was also on Project Healthy Minds festival lineup that day. Uh, so there was a, a lot going on to celebrate World Mental Health Day, so…

Tom: Robin Arzon has two classes with Adam Grant and Dr.

Tom: Becky. I have no idea who either of those people are. I’m scared to ask, because every time I ask a question this episode, you tell me you don’t know, so I’m, like, afraid to ask again. But,

Crystal: Okay.

Tom: Hey, who are Adam Grant and Dr. Becky?

Crystal: Dr. Becky is the… So, so I just want to specify that these are two separate classes, not a class together with both of them.

Crystal: Yes, sorry. One is on the 13th with, took place on the 13th with Adam Grant. I [00:44:00] believe it was a walk plus run. And then on the 15th there will be a, a ride, I think it’s a ride, with Dr. Becky. So this is, Dr. Becky is a parenting whisperer, and they are going to be chatting about motherhood. And then-

Tom: Will they be whispering the whole time?

Crystal: God, I hope not. ‘Cause that sounds terrible.

Tom: So tell us what your thoughts are on change your resistance to seven.

Crystal: Stop it. And then Elizabeth tried to tell me who this Adam Grant person was. Like, let me scroll back here. Okay, so he’s written some… He, okay, I’m gonna read you what his bio says. Okay. So I say this with all the eye rolling-

Tom: Oh dear

Crystal: possible. Adam is the chart-topping host of podcasts that make you think, and think again, about how you work, lead, and live. His shows have been downloaded over 85 million times and have been named among [00:45:00] the best of the year by Spotify and Apple.

Tom: Okay.

Crystal: Uh, something called The Curiosity Shop. Never heard of it.

Crystal: And then there’s one called Re:Thinking, but, like, it’s R-E colon.

Tom: Like regarding thinking.

Crystal: Yeah.

Tom: But-

Crystal: Yeah. It’s… Yeah.

Tom: Clever.

Crystal: Yeah.

Tom: Clever. Okay.

Crystal: So I don’t know. So it’s, uh, it’s all self-help crap.

Tom: Gotcha.

Crystal: You know? Uh, it’s… No offense to him. Yeah. He might be great. I mean- It’s just a lot of this- … he seems very popular

Crystal: a lot of this stuff… I, and I, we talked about this before when we talked about Mel Robbins. Mm-hmm. And we’ve talked about Brene Brown. They may all be very nice people, but a lot of this stuff is freaking common sense, and it- It’s

Tom: kind of they’re all saying s- a version of the same thing,

Crystal: yeah.

Crystal: And, and it, it’s a book that repeats itself over and over again. Yeah. Some of Mel Robbins are ridiculous. Yeah. Like, I got mad when we did the one thing. What was it? Five- Five seconds or whatever Yeah it’s literally just people telling her how awesome she is- … the entire… Like, what? Why, how is this called a book?

Crystal: So [00:46:00] listen, I have no idea. Adam may be amazing. Yeah. But it’s just, it’s not my jam. Anyway, I tell you all of that to say that, um, we’re wondering if this is gonna turn into some kind of, like, expert collection now. Right. Like why- Yeah … are these happening all of a sudden- No, that’s fair … in short succession?

Crystal: So-

Tom: Yeah …

Crystal: maybe that’ll happen. I don’t know. I don’t know. Not my jam, but cool.

Tom: Yeah, I don’t really do self-help because my help, myself, is beyond help.

Crystal: Dude, I do self-help all the time. It’s just more self-directed. Oh, you don’t like that? Freaking change it. That’s kind of the way it goes in my brain, and then I berate myself until it happens.

Crystal: Ah. There’s a lot of guilt. There’s a lot of guilting.

Tom: Maybe you need it more than you think. Ally Love, moving right along, adds Full Body Strength to Rebuild.

Crystal: Yeah. This was kind of… This is a weird one.

Tom: Okay.

Crystal: All right? So- Let’s

Tom: get weird …

Crystal: the program Rebuild came out whenever Ally had her first kid, and, um, she came back and it was, like, a program- Mm-hmm

Crystal: and blah, blah, blah. For whatever [00:47:00] reason, they’re not giving us Rebuild 2. They’re adding Full Body Strength, and they’re calling it, like, a complement-

Tom: Mm-hmm …

Crystal: to the Rebuild program. It’s just worded really oddly. It’s like, it’s like we want to move this forward-

Tom: Yeah …

Crystal: but instead of just doing a whole separate program or repackaging the first one, we’re just gonna add onto it.

Crystal: It feels odd- Yeah … and disjointed, and I, I don’t get why they’re doing it that way. Like, I feel like it’s somebody didn’t have time- Right … or there were so many other things going on. Like, it feels like one of those situations. Yeah. I don’t know, but the classes are dropping. I think they’re dropping this week, so, like, the first Full Body Strength.

Crystal: So if you enjoyed the Rebuild pro- program and you wanna take it to the next level, this is your sign.

Tom: Okay. Hey, if you cannot wait for Thanksgiving, Canada’s got you covered.

Crystal: I always forget that Canada has Thanksgiving in October.

Tom: Yes. Greta and Kirsten celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving.

Crystal: They filmed [00:48:00] a two-for-one turkey trot. And it dropped on demand on Canadian Thanksgiving Day. So how fun is that?

Tom: So we get a Turkey Burn, they get a Turkey Trot.

Crystal: And it had all Canadian artists in the playlist.

Tom: Oh.

Crystal: Which is really nice.

Tom: Lots of Widespread Panic and Bryan Adams.

Crystal: I don’t know. I didn’t check to see what it was.

Tom: Rush.

Crystal: But I thought it, I thought it was fun. You also get a special badge, so that’s fun. You get a little Canadian Thanksgiving- Wow … 2026 badge.

Tom: Chilliwack.

Crystal: Is that a real band?

Tom: That’s a real band.

Crystal: Really?

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: Huh.

Tom: They got a couple really good songs.

Crystal: Do they?

Tom: They do.

Crystal: I’m gonna tell you, uh, I don’t know, you said widespread, and I, and panic, and then that reminded me of a conversation I had yesterday.

Crystal: This is just a little insight into my brain. Mm-hmm. Um, I was telling some coworkers that I had some low-grade panic over something that was happening.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: Coworkers responded, “Panic loves company,” and I responded, “I thought they loved the disco.”[00:49:00]

Crystal: They laughed more than you did. They understand me. I’m such a nerd.

Tom: National-

Crystal: Tom doesn’t even know how to recover from that. That was bad.

Tom: Na- National Coming Out Day- … gets its own set of classes.

Crystal: Yeah, Pe- Peloton has been doing this thing for a few, several years now. I don’t know how many years, but, uh, it’s called Pride 365, and throughout the year when there are Pride holidays- Mm-hmm

Crystal: they post these classes that are specific. And so these were Pride 365 classes that were in honor of National Coming Out Day. Zacharias, Maddie, and Johanna all did classes to be able to celebrate that day, and that took place on October 11th.

Tom: And, uh, finally, there are more UK Black History Month classes.

Crystal: So there’s some things going on that you need to understand, okay? Okay. Yes, there is UK Black History Month classes. There are also [00:50:00] dance music classes. It’s like they are having these u- these classes for dance music that seem to be in, in celebration of the UK Black History Month. What’s interesting about that is there have been several dance classes on the schedule throughout the month of October.

Crystal: Okay. And one of them is a dance music run that JJ, Jermaine Johnson, is teaching with Tinie Tempah, and that will … Tinie Tempah will be in studio on October 14th- On a little- … which is today …

Tom: tiny bike.

Crystal: Well, it’s a run.

Tom: On a little tiny tread.

Crystal: There you go. And, uh, then keep in mind, we had talked earlier about the fact that Ally was going to be there doing some kind of dance music class.

Crystal: Mm-hmm. Well, that is kind of the culmination of all of it. See? Do you get it?

Tom: Ah.

Crystal: I feel like it’s-

Tom: It’s all coming together.

Tom: [00:51:00] Only one birthday this week. It belongs to former instructor and heartthrob Steven Little, who celebrates his birthday on October 18th.

Crystal: Well, happy birthday to Steven Little.

Tom: The first instructor you ever met.

Crystal: It is. First time I’d ever been to the studio, back when you could rush the stage and take photos with the instructors- Yeah … without bodyguards being there.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: Good times.
