Matt Wilpers CFGI Town Hall Reveals 5 Training Lessons

Matt Wilpers CFGI Presentation Shares Essential Lessons on Discipline

The Peloton instructor sat down at a corporate town hall to connect what drives athletic results with what drives business performance.

Matt Wilpers brought the question he asks before every class to a corporate stage this month: what are you training for? The Matt Wilpers CFGI conversation took place at the firm’s annual NYC Town Hall and focused on what it takes to get results in athletics and in business.

Brian Caisman, who helped host the event, called the Matt Wilpers CFGI sit-down the highlight of his day in a LinkedIn post dated Oct 23. Matt followed with his own LinkedIn post this week, thanking Caisman and the CFGI team for an enjoyable conversation.

The firm behind the Matt Wilpers CFGI event describes itself as the largest independent accounting advisory firm, with 1,400 ex-Big 4 professionals and more than 30 global offices, according to its website. CFGI says its services span financial transformation, technology, transactions, and accounting and compliance, with a focus on private capital sponsors and their portfolio companies. Sounds like a perfect match to host Matt!

The CFGI Town Hall Theme: Simple but Not Easy

CFGI built the day around one theme: simple, but not easy. Caisman wrote that last year’s session focused on “making your bed,” and this year the firm asked the harder follow-up about what you are training for. Business works the same way, he said. Know your clients, build real relationships, communicate clearly, and stay intentional about culture. None of it is complicated, but all of it takes discipline.

Five Lessons From the Matt Wilpers CFGI Conversation

Caisman said many of Matt’s lessons carry straight over to how the firm works, and he outlined five of them. First, know what you are training for. A goal gives you direction and keeps you moving on the days you do not feel like it. Second, discipline carries you when motivation does not. Schedule the time, protect it, and let the goal supply the motivation.

Third, build routines you can sustain, because habits are easy to form and hard to break. Fourth, find someone who holds you accountable, since coaches need coaches too. Fifth, keep it fun, because enjoyment is what keeps you consistent. Caisman credited the Matt Wilpers CFGI conversation with reinforcing that big results come from simple actions repeated consistently.

Wilpers Connects Athletics and Business

In his own post about the event, Matt said there are countless similarities between what it takes to achieve results in athletics and in business. He and Caisman also unpacked one of their favorite quotes: “Your biography becomes your biology.” Matt then turned the question back to his audience, just as he does before every class, and asked what they are training for. Oh, to have been in this audience for the Matt Wilpers CFGI Town Hall!

Matt Wilpers NYSAIS keynote

This session adds to Matt’s appearances outside the Peloton studio, alongside his NYSAIS keynote at Mohonk Mountain House, for example. For members who hear the training question at the start of his classes, the CFGI event shows how the same goal-first approach carries into work and routines beyond the workout.

Which Peloton instructor would you want your company to bring to a keynote or town hall?
