Marcel Dinkins Triathlon Training Conquers a Tough Hill

She took five tries to get out of the park. Then she took the hill.

A Vulnerable Moment Before the Breakthrough

Marcel Dinkins triathlon training hit a genuine milestone this week when the Peloton Tread instructor posted an Instagram reel documenting a hard-won breakthrough on the bike. Fresh off missing her 8 a.m. session and running on limited sleep, Dinkins rescheduled for the afternoon and used the extra hours to work through a training obstacle that had stopped her cold on four previous attempts.

In the reel, Dinkins was candid about the mental and physical toll of early wake-ups stacked on top of a full training block. She described herself as a wee bit sleep deprived and mentally fatigued after missing her morning session, but reframed the setback in her own words as delayed, not denied. That mindset, choosing to reschedule rather than skip the work entirely, set the tone for the rest of her Marcel Dinkins triathlon training block that afternoon. It is the kind of honesty that separates a highlight reel from an actual training log, and it is a big part of why her followers keep coming back for updates.

Getting the Gear Shift Right

The turning point came down to mechanics. Dinkins explained that she had tried to ride out of the park under her own power four separate times, and each attempt stalled on the same gear shift she could not quite time correctly. On her fifth try, she finally got it right, and the fix to her leg output cleared the way for the rest of the ride. It was a small technical fix with an outsized payoff, and one she was visibly proud to check off her list.

Marcel Dinkins Triathlon Training Meets the Hill

Getting out of the park was the setup. The hill was the payoff. Once clear of the gear shift issue, Dinkins pointed her bike at a climb that had given her trouble in earlier sessions and rode it to the top. In the video, she asked her followers, half joking and half serious, whether she was really about to become a triathlon girl. The bigger message came through in her own words: take the hill, and remember that we can do hard things. It is a mantra that fits neatly into the rest of her Marcel Dinkins triathlon training, on and off the bike.

Take the Hill Ties Into a Bigger Peloton Story

Take the Hill is not a phrase Dinkins came up with for this ride. It is a mantra she has carried since her ROTC days, and one she works into her classes regularly, using it to push runners and walkers through the parts of a workout that feel hardest. It also happens to be the name of her own podcast, which makes this week’s ride a fitting full circle moment.

Dinkins recently launched her first solo Peloton program, The Progressive Method, a four-week running plan built around steady, incremental gains, the same philosophy on display in this week’s ride. She also spoke about discipline and boundaries in a recent appearance on the Mindset Connection podcast, ideas that clearly carried over into how she handled a missed alarm and four failed attempts before finally getting it right. Fellow Peloton instructor Selena Samuela is on a parallel path, working toward a half Ironman by the end of 2026, starting with similar foundational bike work.

For her followers, the appeal is not the highlight reel. It is the unfiltered middle, the missed alarm, the fourth failed attempt, the fifth try that finally worked. That is the version of Marcel Dinkins triathlon training members are getting a front-row seat to, one hill at a time.
