Little Habits, Big Life: Ally Love’s Bold Reminder to Stop Playing Small
On July 27, Ally Love posted about habits on Instagram and it stopped a lot of us mid-scroll. Not a workout clip. Not a class announcement. A revelation.
She described her body “vibrating” with the realization that she has been playing too small. Not in the way we usually think of it either. This wasn’t about chasing a bigger job or a larger stage. It was about something quieter and, honestly, more relatable: the small moments she keeps letting pass by without noticing them.
In her caption, she asked herself a question worth sitting with: what if the life you’re dreaming about doesn’t start with a bigger opportunity, but with bigger energy?
Why Small Habits Matter More Than Big Leaps
It’s easy to assume transformation requires something dramatic. A new city. A new job. A total overhaul. Ally’s post pushes back on that idea. She isn’t quitting anything or chasing something external. She’s talking about greater habits, better routines, and more fulfilling moments hiding inside the life she already has.
That reframe matters for anyone building a workout practice too. You don’t need a perfect week or a heroic effort. You need the next small, repeatable action. The member who shows up for a 20-minute class four times a week will out-transform the one waiting for a two-hour block of free time that never comes. Habits are what turn intention into an actual life. We have heard this message from her in many different forums, not the least of which is in her Rebuild program.
Four Habits Ally Love Says Can Change Your Life
In her post, Ally shared four practices she’s using to build that bigger energy:
She does one embarrassing thing a week. Her reasoning: growth usually feels awkward before it feels natural. If nothing in your week makes you a little uncomfortable, you might be staying inside a comfort zone that’s actually holding you back.
She protects daily white space. Five or ten minutes with no phone, no music, no noise. She says that’s where her clearest thinking shows up. In a world of constant input, silence has become its own kind of habit worth practicing.
She keeps an energy list instead of a to-do list. At the end of the day, she asks herself what gave her energy and what drained it, then tries to build more of her life around the answers that light her up.
She looks for evidence that life is expanding. A good conversation, a new idea, a stranger’s kindness, her son’s laugh. She notices these things on purpose, because the more she notices abundance, the more abundant life starts to feel.
None of these require more time, more money, or more willpower than you already have. They require attention and repetition, which is exactly what a habit is.
How to Bring This Energy to Your Next Class
Peloton members already understand the power of showing up in small, consistent ways. That’s the entire premise of the platform. A 10-minute ride still counts. A single class after a long break still counts. Ally’s post is really just a bigger version of the same lesson we practice on the bike, the mat, and the tread: consistency beats intensity.
So here’s a challenge worth trying this week. Pick one class time you’d normally skip because it feels too short or too small to matter, and show up anyway. Notice how you feel afterward. Add it to your own version of an energy list. That’s how habits get built, not through one big leap, but through the willingness to keep choosing the small thing.
Ally ended her post by saying she thinks we give embarrassment and fear way too much power. It’s a good line to carry into your next workout, and into the rest of your week.
