Jess Sims Solo Cycling Class Reveals Peloton Teamwork

A George Washington Bridge closure kept Jenn Sherman from the studio, and the team at Peloton Studios New York helped Jess Sims step in for her first full Ride class.

The Jess Sims solo cycling class on Thursday, October 22, came together with almost no notice. Jenn Sherman could not reach Peloton Studios New York in time because of the George Washington Bridge closure, and Jess volunteered to teach the 30 minute 70s Ride in her place. Launch the class here.

It was Jess’s first ever solo cycling class, not counting her bike bootcamps, and her first 70s music class. She announced both firsts on Instagram with the caption “I TAUGHT MY FIRST SOLO CYCLING CLASS!!!” and noted they happened in a single morning. The Jess Sims solo cycling class social media also highlighted the people working around her with heartfelt love and appreciation.

How the Jess Sims solo cycling class came together

Jess documented the scramble in her Instagram Stories. She said she volunteered to sub for Jenn’s cycling class at the last minute and pointed out that she had never taught a solo cycling class. Her producer, Jess Malone, then told her it was a 70s class, and her first instinct was to switch the playlist. However, she kept it, noting that it felt like a sign from her dad, something she notes frequently as she is open to seeing them.

Jenn also documented the situation on her stories, including riding her own class from home and watching Jess teach it. She was rooting for her teammate and shared tremendous pride and gratitude when it was all over.

The schedule for the Jess Sims solo cycling class left little room. Jess taught a strength class that morning, and she said she had 12 minutes between classes, which she spent running to the green room to swap studio mics. A control room screen she shared shows the cycling studio slotted for a 10:00 AM start while her strength class was still underway. She wrote that the studio was loaded in while she was finishing an AMRAP.

If anyone could pull off this kind of feat, it’s Jess Sims. Her television appearances with ESPN likely prepared her for this kind of unpredictability and she is no stranger to the Bike, as she has taught Bike Bootcamps since 2023. She stepped up to the challenge as prepared as she could be, not perfectly, but did it anyway, and the whole community was behind her.

A team effort from the control room to the leaderboard

Jess pointed to teamwork throughout her posts. A caption on her video reads “Peloton’s a team sport,” and her Instagram caption thanks everyone in the studio who stayed and everyone who showed up on the leaderboard. She also named her producer, Jess Malone, in the post.

Jenn responded in real time to the Jess Sims solo cycling class on her own Instagram Stories. One story tags Jess with the message “My queen, my friend I love you!!” Another shows the class on Jenn’s screen, with the note “This was EVERYTHING.” Jenn thanked Jess for stepping in that morning and “CRUSHING IT.”

Jess ended her post with a reminder to choose to be ready instead of waiting to feel ready. For the Jess Sims solo cycling class, that approach covered a planned strength class, an unplanned 12 minute turnaround, and a first solo cycling class in one morning, with an incredible studio team working alongside her.

Post class social media exchanges included a poll as to if the two instructors should now do a 2 for 1 together, and a funny challenge from Jess to see in Jenn would sub her Sims 60 class one of these days.

It’s evident that these two longtime instructors really do have each others’ backs, not just professionally but on a personal level as well. While no one could have predicted the turn that today’s schedule shift would make, it’s no surprise that the entire team, including the stellar behind-the-scenes production staff, could pull it off and make it look effortless.

Will you be taking this class? Would you want to see a 2-for-1 with these two instructors now?
