Hannah Frankson Mat Strength Debut Delivers With JJ

Hannah Frankson Mat Strength Debut Delivers Big With JJ

Hannah Frankson Mat Strength Debut: UK Garage x JJ For the Win

Hannah Frankson mat Strength debut with Jermaine Johnson, 30 min UK BHM: Two for One Strength

The Hannah Frankson mat Strength debut pairs her with Jermaine Johnson for a 30 minute class built on familiar three set work and an all UK garage playlist. It opened Peloton’s UK Black History Month lineup and marks her first appearance in a mat based class.

It’s a music first style of class, meaning open and welcoming to all levels. It’s rated Intermediate. The class plan has with a 3 minute warm up and a 27 minute full body section. I found the warmup, though shorter than normal, to be sufficient.

Launch the class here.

Three Sets That JJ Fans Will Recognize

Anyone who has taken a Jermaine Johnson class will know this format. Each of the three sets opens with a demo, then moves through straightforward timed work with short transitions. It mirrors the set based layout of his 4 Day Split program and many of his recent 30 minute Strength classes.

Set one covers reverse lunges, overhead presses, supinated rows, and goblet squats in 40 to 45 second efforts. Set two pairs a compound move with Russian twists in 30 second intervals. Set three finishes with lateral raises and bicep curls, with the work building from 30 to 35 seconds. This Hannah Frankson mat Strength debut was definitely built with the JJ focus in mind. But, she brought new fun to the mix!

UK Garage Fits UK Black History Month

The playlist is all UK garage, which will sound familiar to fans of Hannah’s rides. The set list includes Little Man (Exemen Works) by Sia and Wookie, Sunshine (Wookie Main Mix) by Gabrielle, Flowers by Sweet Female Attitude, and 21 Seconds by So Solid Crew.

UK garage grew out of London club culture and is rooted in Black British music, which gives the soundtrack a clear place in the observance. Gabrielle has a direct tie to it, since Peloton built a 2024 Artist Series around her.  The music is one reason the Hannah Frankson mat Strength debut works for fans of both instructors. But not the only one…

Banter, Dance Breaks, and Brother and Sister Energy

Easy banter is the second reason this Hannah Frankson mat Strength debut with JJ really works. Hannah and JJ trade stories about being active in music scenes as teens. Both were a bit younger than the peak Garage era, which recalls how Hannah teases Joslyn Thompson Rule and Susie Chan about their party girl exploits in their Two for One classes. The UK crew has shown this kind of chemistry before, including at British Summer Fest, and it’s hilarious.

Dance breaks add to the lighthearted mood of and renew the hope at home for a future dance cardio classes with JJ… at least for me! I’m always hoping! If Hannah wants to get in on that action, I am here for it.

We also see a fun side of JJ as a fan of reality dating shows (as his chit chat was different with Hannah than when he talks directly to the camera and focuses more on family and longevity). He shows real interest in, and protectiveness toward, Hannah’s dating stories, which her riders will recognize. The result is a true brother and sister dynamic. I was laughing throughout, partly because I already knew some of the stories (ok, dusty sons!).

The Hannah Frankson Mat Strength Debut Fits Her Marathon Build

Hannah talks about strength training on Instagram as she trains for the NYC Marathon, and she is a former track athlete. That background makes the mat a natural next stop for her.

The bottom line: JJ feels like working out with a knowledgeable friend for me, and Hannah crashes that party and maxxes that vibe. She brought a silliness to JJ’s sometimes-seriousness, which was a great balance for this class.

I am big fans of both of them, so seeing them together was just the little shakeup I needed in my routine. Both can pull hard work from me on the bike and with the weights, and I am always in a better mood after spending time with each of them. Together, wow, what a combo! I got a solid workout, some healthy laughs, heard great tunes, and my quads felt it the next day. What’s better that that?

Members who are not devotees of either instructor as I am can still start here, because the Hannah Frankson mat Strength debut is easy to follow and easy to enjoy. I hope we see more of Hannah on the mat in the future!
