Peloton Honors and Celebrates Transgender Day of Visibility with Classes on March 31

The History of Transgender Day of Visibility
Every year on March 31, Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) is observed around the world. It’s a day dedicated to celebrating transgender people and raising awareness of the discrimination they continue to face. But the holiday is younger than many people realize, and it began with one woman who simply got tired of waiting.
Rachel Crandall-Crocker had been wanting a special day for the trans community for a long time, but kept waiting for someone else to create it. Finally, in 2009, she decided to act. She founded TDOV in reaction to the lack of LGBTQ+ recognition for the successes of trans people, as well as the frustration that the only well-known transgender-centered observance was the Transgender Day of Remembrance. It’s a solemn occasion, not a celebratory one.
She chose March 31 because she wanted distance from both Transgender Day of Remembrance in November and Pride Month in June. The date itself wasn’t symbolically loaded — it was practical. And it worked.
