Peloton Kettlebell Classes Are Coming Plus Our Interview With Enuma Iyob!
Welcome to The Clip Out, episode 400.
The audience canβt see it. I got you all these flowers to celebrate our 400th episode. There are flowers and chocolates. I got her a gold-plated Peloton tread, the big one. Itβs in the other room. I canβt get in here. Itβs heavy. Theyβre already heavy but itβs all gold.
This isnβt April Fools Day.
Four hundred of these things. Holy cow.
That is a lot of people to talk to. Itβs a lot of topics to cover. Eight years. Thatβs crazy.
What pray tell do you have in store for people?
We are going to be talking to our interview guest, Enuma. We are going to hear about her amazing athletic and Peloton journey. She had a lot to share and a lot of fun to talk to. We have all kinds of information thatβs coming in. We have kettlebell classes coming. We have lawsuit updates. We have the next Lululemon event, when the studio is going to be closed again, and what happened with Running Pace Target? We have all of the updates. Weβre going to talk about the rise of gyms as clinics.
You said this to me and I found this fascinating.
We also have instructor updates. We have lots of content to talk through and weβll talk about birthdays as well.
While youβre talking about all the updates, we should also give people an update on Helper Bee Tina.
First of all, people have donated $2,200. Thank you so much. Please keep sharing it everywhere. Every time I post an update, thatβs what keeps the momentum on these things going. Mason has had two chemo treatments so far. He is going to have another one. Hopefully, thatβs going well. Theyβre hoping, cross your fingers, theyβre going to get to go home for a few days, and then theyβll have to come back for the next couple of Wednesdays and stay for his chemo treatment.
They live in Erie, which is in Pittsburgh, so they have to go back and forth. After the 30 days are up, then they start a new treatment cycle. We will find out what thatβs going to look like because thatβs completely going to depend. The hard part about this, specifically this week, is if he gets to come home, then the big scare is if he gets a fever. They have all these protocols that they have in place that they want Tina to do. The big thing is to get him back to Pittsburgh as soon as possible.
Thatβs hard on Tina because sheβs like, βNow I want to take his temperature every five minutes.β If anything is down like his blood count or his white blood cells whenever he comes in for his chemo treatment, they could still admit him. Thereβs this crazy uncertainty on top of a horrible situation that I donβt even know how sheβs dealing with. I donβt do well with uncertainty or things I canβt control. Nothing about this is certain nor how to control it. She just has to ride the wave.
Put your head down and power through and do the things you can do and hope for the best.
The love and messages that people have been sending, Iβve been passing them all on to Tina. She appreciates all of you so much. We are so happy that so many people are sending these powerful messages from so many moms who have been through this. I hate that there are so many moms who are going through this, but thank you all. We also found out that since Mason just turned 18 a few weeks ago, there is no program for him for assistance. Whatever the insurance doesnβt cover, sheβs on the hook for it. Keep those donations coming. Thank you all for all the support for Tina. We love her so much and we wish them both well.

This week on the bonus episode, Kristin McGee has a new book. We will give you all the details about that. The LA Fitness deal is official. We will talk to you about that. Peloton is inviting people to a new challenge from 2023, so not a new challenge at all. We will discuss whatβs going on there. All the other instructor updates and stuff that we donβt have time to get to and the main episodes. It also helps the show. Thereβs a lot of expenses and stuff, so it helps us there as well. Weβre on YouTube at YouTube.com/TheClipOut. We also have a newsletter. You will most likely get an email this week. Thereβs all that. Letβs dig in. Shall we?
We shall.
βββ
Kettlebell classes are coming.
Peloton posted an Instagram teaser saying, βYou asked. We answered.β They were teasing the Kettlebell classes. There are two big questions that everyone is talking about. One, whoβs going to teach these classes? On that note, we have seen photographs pop up of Tunde, Katie, and other instructors who happened to be in the gym. They happened to be standing next to kettlebells. Maybe it has nothing to do with that.
We can also safely assume that at least a few strengths instructors will be involved even if itβs only at the beginning and they add more in. The other burning question that people have is whether Peloton now be selling kettlebells. The reason that people are asking that is thereβs a reel that Peloton posted. It has an instructor in it with a kettlebell. If you look closely, it looks like it could be a Peloton P. I could easily be swayed either way. Itβs such a brief second.
I tried to pause it.
Itβs almost impossible. We will see, but those are those are the big questions that people have for now. I forgot, thereβs one more question. The question is whether it will be on the regular app or the Strength+ app. We donβt know the answer to that because, on the Strength+ app, the first program that Rebecca Kennedy put out had kettlebell swings included in it. Will these kettlebell classes be available on the regular app? The reason thatβs so important is so many people donβt have access to Strength+. I just wanted to explain that.
Youβre here to explain things. Thatβs why youβre Clip Out Crystal and Iβm the sidekick, For the uninitiated, Iβm asking for other people that might not know. Of course, I know the answer, but other people may not and they might be shy. They donβt want to ask the question and look silly. Iβm asking it on their behalf. Whatβs a kettlebell do?
Itβs like a regular weight but it has a handle on the top of it. Youβre able to swing it. The reason that is important is because the moves that you do with kettlebells are a little bit different. In theory, you can do these moves with a dumbbell.
You canβt grip it the same way.
You canβt, and because you canβt grip it the same way, your muscles are not being used as effectively. When you swing a kettlebell you get some momentum going with it. In this case, you want the momentum to be there, unlike when youβre lifting a dumbbell over your head. The other thing is that if you try to use a regular dumbbell to do a kettlebell swing, you might be flexing and tightening in weird places. You are not going to get out of it in the same way youβre going to get out of it with the kettlebell.
Does it mean you canβt do it? No. Youβre still going to get some benefit from it. The other thing is that a kettlebell is designed to be swung. Itβs heavier at the bottom. When you do a swing with it, itβs going to come back down. You need to know how to use a kettlebell effectively. I hope to God thereβs like an intro to kettlebells because it is so easy to hurt your back with these. We talked about this on the bonus episode a few weeks ago, unrelated to this news. They were talking about what are some things that you should never do, and kettlebells were on them. Never do a kettlebell swing.
Iβm not going to lie. Iβve never done one. Shocking, I know, but it looks like a new and exciting way to throw out your back.
Do you remember when you workout on the Tonal 2 and you did the Aero mode? Do you know the one where you went all the way down to the bottom like you squatted?
Yeah.
Thatβs very close to a ball throw, which is similar to swinging a kettlebell. Thatβs the vibe you get from it but itβs safer with Tonal because itβs attached. Itβs not going to fly off and hit you. A kettlebell can hit your hand, flip back over your wrist, or hit you in the face.
Itβs a little bit like a murder weapon.
I wouldnβt want to piss somebody off that had one.
Professor Plum in the library with the kettlebell, thatβs my solution.
If you donβt have a Tonal, itβs a great way to get the work, especially in your abs. Itβs so effective. Kettlebells, when used properly, are amazing for your abs and stuff because youβre moving your body in a way that a regular dumbbell canβt do. Youβre getting deep into those muscles and youβre activating all kinds of things that youβre not typically activating. Thereβs a lot of good that can come from that as well. I also donβt want people to think weβre anti-kettlebell because weβre not.
Itβs very effective if you live through it.
Most people live through their kettlebells just fine. Iβm saying though, you do need to know how to do it safely. This is not the same as just picking up a dumbbell and going up and down with it. People have gotten hurt. You want to be careful. Iβm sure Peloton will have intro classes. I believe it was Helper Bee Nikki who said, β3, 2, 1, there goes our terms and conditions getting updated for kettlebell.β
Check this box before you lean into this workout. Peloton has a resolution to a lawsuit thatβs been winding its way through the legal system for the better part of two years at this point. They were sued over the defective seat post. The seats were dropping.
It was one of those class action lawsuits. It was saying that Peloton concealed these problems that led to the recall. Eventually, they did the recall.
They lied about how much it would cost. They said it was going to cost $8.4 million, and then three months later, they ended up saying it was $40 million. They were like, βYou lied.β A judge has found that they did not lie and that Pelotonβs disclosures were βnot materially misleading,β in part because they explicitly warned that recalls were possible.
Thatβs the opposite of misleading.
Yes. That lawsuit has been dismissed.
A lot of people filed claims that they never fulfilled. Peloton sent the new seat post and then people never did anything with them. They were having issues. They were like, βIn case I have an issue.β Iβm not saying people shouldnβt do that. Iβm just saying thatβs going to change the amount that when you have to do a recall, thatβs also going to be difficult.
Because there are so many, I think this is the lawsuit where we reached out to the main complainant in the class action suit. I was talking with him on Facebook and then when I invited him on the show, radio silence.
It could be. As you said, thereβs been so many lawsuits. I forgot that even happened. I forgot that you reached out to that person.
He was like, βLetβs set up a time,β and then never heard another word from him.
He probably was like, βMy attorney thought that was a terrible idea.β
βIf you want to get this lawsuit dismissed, yeah.β This seems more like the tail end of Barryβs tenure. He was cleaning up lawsuits. This has to be, if not the last one, certainly one of the last one hanging over their head.
Itβs toward the end, but the last one we thought was the last one was not the last one.
That is true.
Unless you have some spreadsheet out there, how much of a nerd do you have to be if you donβt work for Peloton to have that one? Iβm sure thereβs somebody out there that has one. Iβve been super nerdy many times in my life, but I donβt know. There have been so many lawsuits.
For sure. It is a lot to keep track of.
He was knocking them out, left and right. Heβs been gone for a long time now.
Yes, but thereβs a long tail end on that.
There is, for sure.
Peloton has announced its next Lululemon event.
There are going to be classes taught by Adrian, Chelsea, Callie, and Cody. Itβs going to be taking place between February 26th and March 9th. Interestingly though, it will be not taking place at the studio. It will be taking place at 210 Lafayette Street. This will be very interesting. Itβs called the Glow Up Studio event. There are going to be all of these instructors teaching these classes. There are going to be meet-and-greet sessions, strength and stretch with Adrian, yoga and meditation with Chelsea, dance cardio, and then a stretch with Cody. There are some panel discussions with all four of the instructors there, and then strength and low-impact cardio.
This sounds like itβs right down the street from the Tonal pop-up studio.
It sure does. I wonder if itβs in the same place.
No, because Iβm almost positive that the Tonal studio was at 188 Lafayette.
Youβre right, and this would overlap slightly because the Tonal pop-up closes on the 28th. For a couple of days, theyβre going to be right next to each other.
We know that Tonal space is used for pop-up experiences like this, so I wonder if this company has several establishments close together that they flip all the time for different things.
Thatβs possible. Thatβs considered Soho/Little Italy, depending on where the dividing line is. If youβre wondering where that is, thatβs where it is. We know New York so well.
I remember the Tonal pop-up studio was at 188 Lafayette.
Thatβs pretty impressive.
I have no idea how or why I know that.
Right across the street is the most adorable little bar. Do you remember that bar? That is so cute. It was all dressed up and had all the lights and everything, and snow falling.
You canβt remember the name of it.
Instead of thinking of what you can't do, focus on what you can do. Share on XNo idea, but right across the street 188 Lafayette.
Thatβs all you need to know. We have some Peloton studio closures coming up in April.
There are going to be two different closures occurring. One of them is going to be at the London Studio. This is important because that one stops on April 6th. The Peloton Studios New York closes from April 7th through April 13th. Isnβt that interesting? I thought that was weird that they were not on the same days.
It almost makes me wonder if thereβs some sort of tech update. The team is going in, shutting down one or two units, and then when theyβre done, theyβre bringing them to the States and doing the same thing, and so theyβre using the same team.
That could be.
Thatβs a hypothesis.
I didnβt say the start date for the London one, so March 31st through April 6th, and then PSNY is from April 7th through the 13th. I think that is a solid thought process. Whatβs confusing is that in 2024, for the first time ever, Peloton put out all of their closures at one time. They figured out that was a bad idea because they moved things too much. Now theyβre back to, βWeβre only going to tell you a little bit at a time. Dribs and drabs are all you get. Thatβs it.β Now weβre back to one at a time. I thought that was interesting too. Yeah, Sstudio maintenance, I donβt know. Maybe itβs when all the instructors get together, but then that wouldnβt be at two different times so that doesnβt make sense unless theyβre only having a London one, and a US one maybe. I donβt know.
Who knows? Pace Targets have been added to Running in the app for people.
This is a deal. You have to remember that Pace Targets are like Powers Zones for the tread, but you can only use them if you have a tread. A lot of people run that donβt have a tread. They have now rolled out Pace Targets for the app.
If you have a non-Peloton piece of equipment, you can now utilize Pace Target.
Thatβs a huge deal. You can still save your level. They have the ability to change the levels on the app now, and youβre able to see all the different classes. In the app, it has a little graph in the bottom right-hand corner. Thatβs how you know itβs Pace Target. If you click on it, youβll see Pace Target, but if you donβt click on it, itβs just going to show a little graph in the bottom right-hand corner. This is important for people who want to run outside too because you need this class fast. I assume weβre going to see the ability to filter on those and maybe even different kinds of Pace Target classes. This is a very big deal for the running community. Iβm very excited to see it.
I know this isnβt Peloton but itβs workout, exercise, or fitness-adjacent, which makes it Peloton-adjacent. Thatβs my point. On Instagram, Tatum Brandt posted an interesting piece about the gym as a clinic business model.
This was from a company called Fitt Insider. The interesting thing is we are seeing several gyms that have started doing different clinic things. Now itβs no longer just a gym. For example, weβre seeing glucose monitors show up at gyms. Weβre seeing Ozempic showing up at gyms. Thatβs interesting to me because Iβve been saying to the company that I work for for a long time that we need to get on these GLP ones, not to be the ones prescribing them because thatβs not our place, but to help people because these are not going anywhere.
Maximize their efficacy.
You want people to eat well. Gyms have the same thought and theyβre like, βIf theyβre already here working out, letβs get them to the next stage,β because itβs the weight loss and the eating part that people struggle with so much. If you already have them at a gym, theyβre already doing the hardest part, the working out part. Now we have to work on their nutrition and turbocharge it. I think itβs fascinating. Do you have any other thoughts about this?
I find it a little disconcerting. Over the last twenty years, weight loss has transitioned into wellness. These places going down this road that itβs not their natural setting give me pause about how good theyβre going to be at it. Thereβs a lot of BS out there in the wellness world. If your gym latches on to some BS, youβre going to be like, βThe gym must have vetted it.β Thatβs not necessarily true. Itβs getting very close to your gym offering medical advice, which I find disconcerting.
It is disconcerting. Hereβs the thing. Although I donβt think MetPro should be offering prescriptions to Ozempic or any GLP ones, specifically, it looks like these gyms are going to be providing it. Thatβs different, and one of the reasons thatβs different is there are so many compounding pharmacies that are putting forth these prescriptions because these medications are so hard to get through the normal channel.
You have tons and tons of these pharmacies that are compounding the medication, so you can get to it. Nothing wrong with that. There are a lot of amazing compounding pharmacies that are great and reputable. However, how do you know which is? Even a chain like this could vary from place to place. That worries me a lot. I donβt know how a person knows the difference.
Theyβre trying to compete with Medspas. Medspas do a lot of good things. I donβt want to knock that at all, but theyβre not your doctor. At Medspas, theyβre also providing hormones, and so are some of these clinics. Theyβre calling them clinics inside these gyms. They are providing hormones for people. Thatβs terrifying.
I know people are going to get mad when I say this, but as you watch the government being dismantled and the FDA is firing people left to right, they are ostensibly to oversee and protect us from fly-by-night snake oil, then you see this on the rise at the same time as regulations are on the decline, check back in five years and see what pro-public is telling you about it.
Just to be clear, I donβt have a problem with hormones. I donβt have a problem with continuing continuous glucose monitors. None of those. I have used some of these myself, but I have also used them in a conversation with a doctor, and itβs very integrated into those conversations.
I know that these places are ostensibly bringing in medically-trained personnel. In a world where itβs getting more and more difficult to find those medically trained personnel, you also have to wonder when youβre trying to expand that.
Youβre trying to scale it and grow it fast. This is not a knock against medicine. We believe in science over here, but when youβre growing any business and it starts growing fast and you start scaling, mistakes get made. Things happen. Now put that in a medical sense, thatβs scary. We thought this was super fascinating and wanted to share with you whatβs going on out there in the world. Iβd love to hear your thoughts on it.
Coming up after this, weβre going to have instructors in the news. Adrian Williams had a very disconcerting thing happen to him at a sporting event. We will tackle that, coming up next. Stick around.
βββ
Before we start this, we should probably warn people that this is a post that Adrian Williams made about a racist incident that he endured at a basketball game. If thatβs not something youβre in the headspace for, fast forward, check back later, or whatever you need to do. Adrian Williams had this post on Instagram that I will let you read because your voice sounds more like Adrian Williams.
Sure. He and I are like the same Zβs. He did post this on his Instagram stories. I know that you canβt go and find it now, thatβs because it was on a story. Those expire after 24 hours, but this is what he said. For context, he was at a college basketball game and this part is in quotes. βSomeone said this to me yesterday while I was watching college basketball, βI didnβt know they let you all sit with us. You know thatβs about to change, right?ββ Adrian went on to say, βItβs not the comment that bothered me. Itβs this idea that weβre regressing as a society in front of my eyes. I am 100% okay and unbothered, but that is a privilege and for others, it is not the same.β I am very upset by this.
Iβm not naive enough to think that there arenβt racists in the world. Obviously, that has never gone away, but to see someone like that so emboldened.
That is also frightening,
Especially to someone who could snap you like a twig.
Itβs not okay on any level for anyone to say to anybody. Who goes and picks a fight with somebody who looks like Adrian Williams?
The guy is jacked beyond all belief. I canβt imagine that 95% of people in America would be able to win that fight, but the jaw-dropping amount of entitlement attached to saying something like that.
I was going to use the word audacity. It is next level. Iβm glad that he is okay and unbothered. I genuinely am, but it is very disconcerting. He is a thousand percent correct to say itβs this idea that weβre regressing as a society in front of his eyes. I feel that on a lot of levels. I know Iβm not alone. I get messages from people every day. I know there are a lot of people who think weβre stupid and overreacting. I hope that you are fine, White man, because the rest of us are not okay.
Thatβs just wow.
I would be bothered if somebody said something like that to me. I donβt know how Iβd react, but I know it would not be good. Anyway, we wanted to share that because that happened to a Peloton instructor. What I mean by that is if that can happen to somebody who looks like Adrian and has the privileges that Adrian has because of his position with Peloton, social media, and all that, it can happen to anybody. Donβt be fooled that we were in a place where number one, it never got better, but itβs getting worse. Thatβs concerning.
Don't give up. Focus on what you can control. There's always going to be a bright, beautiful rainbow at the end of the tunnel. You just have to keep pushing forward. Share on XMoving on to better news, Alex Toussaint has a brief cameo in the new MCU movie Captain America, Brave New World.
About 45 minutes into the movie, Harrison Ford, who plays President Ross, is on his Peloton bike. At first, you hear Alexβs voice but it does swivel around. You do see Alex on screen for two seconds or three seconds.
Maybe even a little bit longer. I was surprised by how long they held on the class portion of that scene.
President Ross/Harrison Ford then hopped off the bike and was like, βI finished it all. I did all 5 miles.β I was like, β5 miles with a 15-minute class? What are you talking about?β Itβs good for Peloton to have that exposure in the middle of such a big movie. I do have to say though that this was not my favorite movie and it was not my favorite Marvel movie.
It was pretty bland.
I missed the fun banter in Marvel movies. That was the thing that I enjoyed about them, and it was severely lacking.
I love the Marvel movies, but I thought this one was one of the weaker entries.
I think it was the writing because the acting was great. Anthony Mackie did an amazing job. Harrison Fors did an amazing job.
We like the TV show. We like the Winter Soldier.
That was a great show that had more banter.
It did have more banter. We know you like the banter. Thatβs the only reason youβre with me.
Itβs not the only reason.
I canβt say the other one. Coming up after this, we will tackle all the content that you need to be sampling. Sit tight.
βββ
It is time for the TCO Top 5, where you tell us your favorite classes and we tell them back to you. We welcome the return of Helper Bees Tina.
I canβt believe sheβs sitting in a hospital and sheβs like, βI want to work on this because I want to not think for a while about all this stuff.β
You were like, βI donβt care. Write The TCO Top 5.β You are a taskmaster.
I am a taskmaster.
She was like, βI need something to take my mind off of everything. This is one of those things and I would like to continue doing it. We were like, βYes, please.β That would be great if you have the bandwidth for it. Iβm the same way. When things are weird. I remember during the middle of the divorce, I was doing TV interviews about the Oscars for film criticsβ stuff.
Many people were like, βWhat the hell?β
Two minutes before we go on air, youβre getting a report from the private investigator, and itβs like, βHang on. I have to do a TV spot.βItβs something to take your mind off. I get it.
Everybodyβs different. Iβm grateful that it works differently for you. It works differently for Tina. It makes me happy to see her have a little bit of a break and a little happiness,
A little bit of normalcy. With that being said, your favorite Powers Zone class.
By far, it was the 120-minute Power Zone Endurance, Two For One, that happened with Christian Vande Velde and Matt Wilpers. Many people wrote about this. Carrie McGillivray Logan said it had over 4,000 people participating live. Thatβs impressive because itβs starting at 6:00 AM, our time on Saturday morning. Type-A Matt was having a hard time chatting with chatty Christian and his lack of numbers which is hilarious because even you make fun of Mattβs math. It was all good fun and theyβre great together and everybody loved this class. Iβm glad that it got to happen and I love seeing the long format.
Number two, your favorite interval rides.
This was taught by Christine on February 6th. It was a 30-minute interval ride. Mindy Jensen loves this ride. She said sheβs so happy that CDE has started programming this type of ride, βThereβs no way I would push myself that hard without the coaching and programming of these rides.β I did not say that well at the beginning. Christine has started programming SIT, which is Sprint Interval Training, which is a key way to exercise when youβre going through perimenopause or menopause.
Christine has been very focused on this. Sheβs a fan of Stacy Sims. She follows. She also is an ambassador or a front person for Midi, which is a great resource for any women who are like, βMy doctor doesnβt help me with the things that I need, Mindy.β Itβs covered by insurance. Iβm just saying. The Sprint Interval Training is awesome and this is one of Christineβs newest classes.
Sheβs done several of them at this point. There are βonlyβ six 30-second intervals that are then followed by three minutes of rest in the ride. If you do those intervals correctly, as Mindy says, youβre going to need those three minutes. Sheβs right. That is a fantastic class to do especially if youβre looking to try Sprint Interval Training.
Number three, your favorite run.
This was taught by Becs Gentry on February 15th. It was a 45-minute 2000 run. Karen Smith nominated this class. Itβs a Pace Target class. Karen said, βThe Pace Targets are sneaky hard, and a couple of them with Becs and you may well die. They motivate you to push just that little bit harder by bumping to the higher end of your zone. I love that Peloton seems to be focusing on these this year. Looking forward to many more.β I very much agree with that.
Number four, your favorite strength class.
Rebecca Kennedy made the list again. I mean no shock. Is strength and it was a 20-minute core. This was back away. This was in August 2021. Karen Brady recommended this class with good reason. She said, βItβs a fun dance routine that made working on the core a lot more fun than just planks and crunches. I returned to this class a lot as it lives in my bookmarks and itβs a beginning-level class.β Thatβs nice.
Finally, your unstackable and itβs a ride.
This is the superhero ride. Anthony Mackie, our current Captain America joined Alex Toussaint on the bike in the studio live. Michael Davern said when he nominated this class, βOver 52,000, people. You canβt be wrong. This class was a great way to celebrate the newest Marvel movie. It was more than just a fun-themed class.β Michael provided a great summary. He said that the ride had star power, having Anthony Mackie, of course, and then riding alongside and being occasionally interviewed by Alex. βWhat a tough class. The warm-up started out with resistance in the 40s and never backed down from there. Anthony was surprisingly good on the bike, matching Alex stride for stride. Iβve been riding for five years and I rarely get to 70s cadence while standing up, and Anthony was right there from the jump.β Heβs a superhero. The workouts they do are crazy.
They give you your own personal trainer because they know you have to look a certain way in that costume and move a certain way. Even if he isnβt a regular on an exercise bike, heβs in peak physical condition.
This article went up today and other people started chiming in immediately to say that they thought that Anthony Mackie was a Peloton user. I saw clips of this ride. He was not going slow. He could have turned down the resistance. We werenβt there, but he did not seem to be having any issues on that bike. Itβs pretty cool.
I donβt think he would. Unlike your previous Captain America. Heβs not on performance-enhancing drugs. Sam Wilson didnβt take the Super Soldier serum, unlike Steve Rogers. Iβm just throwing that out there.
Thatβs a great point.
We will now take a look at this week at Peloton and see what is in store for you, or by the time you hear this, what was in store for you?
This is funny because I have to start off by making fun of Peloton on this one real quick. There was a 60-minute strength class with Adrien, which everybody is excited about and should be, but Peloton said it was Friday, February 18th, which hasnβt happened in five years. Itβs Friday, the 21st. Our 10th anniversary.
I need to go get something.
Yes, you should. This strength class will be very amazing. Everybody loves full-body strength, but 60 minutes is killer and itβs Adrian. Heβs probably working out and still pissed over what that guy said to him.
Although he seemed pretty chill.
Iβm still pissed about it.
You should be. We also have a Sia run with Mariana Fernandez.
Weβre all a little confused as to why this is showing up now and not back when they had the Sia.
Did they forget it was there?
I have no idea. I remember the time Mariana posted about it. She had a special outfit. It was Brittany Allen. I didnβt know that it wasnβt on the schedule with the rest of them, but I think itβs super weird that theyβre including this now and still get Peloton. I donβt know whatβs happening over there.
Thereβs also a Flow and Let Go with Aditi Shah.
Thatβs going to be premiering on the 22nd of February. These are nice because they have slowed down. You can slow down because youβre flowing and letting go.
Ally Love is back with Sundays with Love. I know people dig those.
It appears that these are occurring about once a month now. This one is going to be on Sunday, February 23rd, and it will be at noon Eastern.
There are the things that didnβt make those lists, but weβre still tracking.
Black History Month is still happening. Some new Black History Month classes dropped. There was a run with Marcel and a very popular ride with Ally. That was that Soul Ride that everybody was raving about, and there was a run with Kirsten. We already know that Christian made a return to PSNY because he did that class with Matt. He also had his very own ride that he did on Valentineβs Day, which was a 60-minute ride, the day before. Hosky was everywhere at PSNY because at the beginning of Valentineβs Day, Matty had a Walk and Talk, and Jon Hosking walked in the middle of the class. He was like, βHi, how are you doing?β
Thatβs a walk and talk.
He then showed up. He was in the studio for Mattβs Country Ride. I took that one because I have to get 100 miles in this month for my challenge. I took that ride and I was like, βThereβs Hosky. How about that?β He then came in the next day for Christian and Mattβs two-hour ride. He did that class. While he was there, he also led three classes, not to mention all day on Valentineβs Day, he walked around, giving roses to people, and very bad pickup lines to everyone.
Making the most of his trip.
Everyone was expecting that he was going to make an announcement and he was going to be on the bike. Not happening. Iβm not saying itβs never happening, but it did not happen.
The announcement did not happen.
The person who admins his group was like, βThatβs a stupid rumor. Itβs never happening. Youβre all dumb.β I donβt know. Maybe thereβs no truth to it. People thought though because heβs taking so many classes.
I will say this to the person who runs that group.
He didnβt say it that rude.
I know, but if youβre that confident, say it before the anticipated announcement. Not after.
I have to defend this person. They have posted that many times. I was just unaware. I was unaware of it because there are too many groups for me to keep up on things, but he has said that many times.
So then, I retract. We already talked about the Captain America ride, and then we have more Black History Month rides.
In week three, weβre going to have Platinum Producers Hip Hop run with Adrian, and Supreme Soul with Tunde on February 20th. Thereβs also going to be a tie-in with the Artist Series this week, Kirk Franklin. Thatβs going to be a Gospel Glow ride with Cliff.
With the gospel guy.
Yeah, he is. Theyβre going to be live on Instagram together.
When we went to House of Blues and did the Gospel Brunch, thatβs a Kirk Franklin Gospel.
I didnβt even know that. That was very delightful.
It was fun. Itβs the closest you will ever get me in church. It has to be Disney-adjacent. Thatβs the only way Iβm going.
Thatβs the only way you do a lot of things.
Thereβs a little bit more, coming up next.
Alex is going to be back to his Monday night hip hop slot on February 24th with a Black History Month class and the Platinum Producers. People have been wondering where Erik JΓ€ger is. He shared on his IG that he is traveling in Brazil, but he has dropped a bunch of OD content. He has provided several structured plans with a variety of fitness goals. If you go to Instagram, you can see that and he will be off the live schedule for two months. Thatβs his offseason. If you are missing Erik, he left lots of stuff for you to do.
βββ
Finally, we have one birthday this week. It is DJ John Michael, who celebrates his birthday on February 24th.
Happy birthday, DJ John Michael.
Happy birthday. Coming up after this, weβll have our interview with Enuma. Stick around.
βββ
Joining us via the magic of Zoomtube is Enuma Iyob. Enuma, howβs it going?
Itβs nice to talk to you all.
Itβs nice to talk to you. Iβm so excited youβre here. I always like to start these conversations by understanding how you got into Peloton. What does that look like in your journey? How did you decide, βI got to have this?β
Finding Peloton And Falling In Love With Fitness
I started in 2019. One of my girlfriends from college, anything that she does, she becomes a fanatic of it. She was like, βI love the Peloton bike and I have the tread.β Iβm like, βYou went in and invested in both a tread and a bike of equipment.β Iβm not judging. Itβs a safe place. I was like, βCool. You do you.β We were pregnant at the same time that same year. I was like, βIβm going to have to stop doing my OTF.β There are three months of no exercise.
I was like, βCan you tell me a little bit more about Peloton?β At first, I was like, βCool. You do you. Do your thing.β Once I got toward the end of my pregnancy, I was like, βTell me more.β She walked me through to FaceTime and showed me the tread because she knew I was a runner. I was like, βThat is very nice.β It was like the Tesla of treadmills. Iβve heard of the Woodway.
She has the Tread+ it sounds like.
Yes. I was mind-blown.
Did she buy the bike and the tread simultaneously?
Yes. Whatever she does, she does 100%. Her license plate changed and everything. She went all in.
I have no room to talk.
No judgment. I said, βThatβs pretty cool.β She would post videos and talk about the workouts she was doing and the instructors. I wasnβt interested until I got towards the end of my pregnancy since I was doing Orangetheory. Once that came around, I was like, βI need something. Can you tell me a little bit more about this new obsession that you have going on?β
She did the FaceTime and showed me the tread. I was ready to swipe the card at that time. My husband was like, βHold the brakes here.β My husband ended up getting me the tread as a push present for the pregnancy. I was due in November. The bike we didnβt get until a month before COVID, so early 2020. Thatβs pretty much how I got introduced to Peloton. Once I joined, I had the same experience where I went from 0 to 100. I was like, βIt wasnβt just her. Itβs a thing.β
Itβs very much a thing.
You werenβt too far behind. Theyβre great products.
My husband said, βWhat happened to you?β Iβm like, βEither itβs just the hormones from this pregnancy or these are amazing products.β It was a combination.
I was going to say, βOr both.β
You got the tread towards the end of 2019 and then the bike at the beginning of 2020. When COVID hit, you had to feel like a genius.
I was like, βThank you.β I didnβt have the Tread+ until the end of 2019 and then I got the bike. COVID hit in March 2020. I got the bike at the end of January 2020. I didnβt have to do the crazy weight or any of that. It came. They took their time. Theyβre like, βDo you want a selfie in front of your new bike?β Now, theyβll toss the bike in your house and itβs not even set up. Before, they take a picture and thumbs up in front of the van. It was a whole experience.
The delivery trucks are like the ice cream man. Youβre running down the street after it.
You were during the time when Peloton was delivering all of their products. You had a true Peloton delivery. We live in Missouri, so weβve never had that opportunity. Itβs always been through a third party, even when we had a store here in St. Louis. That was nice when we had that for a brief time. We never had that. I was so jealous of everybody. They got to see the Peloton truck pull up and take the selfie. I was like, βThat would have been so nice.β
It was part of the experience. I was grateful that I joined right before then. Even with customer service, there were a couple of questions that I had, so I wasnβt paying attention. I was so in awe of the equipment. I had to call them a couple of days later and Iβm like, βHow does this work? What happens if I donβt press it?β Now, I canβt even get ahold of them. Customer service is not the same as it was before. I was very grateful that I joined when I did.
I can completely understand that. When we were messaging back and forth, you mentioned that you had starts and stops with Peloton. So far, it sounds like itβs been super smooth. You were all in from day one but I know thereβs more to the story. I want to hear more about that.
The Impact Of Pregnancy And Postpartum On Fitness
Pregnancy and I was doing Orangetheory. To give you a little background of why one of the stops happened, I ran track in college and then didnβt want to stop that momentum. I had so much fun. I feel like I still have more to give. I had another friend who was a marathoner. She was like, βWhy donβt you do a half marathon with me?β
Being from a sprinter and jumps background because I did the heptathlon, I didnβt know you needed to hydrate, eat a bunch of food to burn it off an hour later, or the shoes. Itβs all completely over my head. I went out and did this half marathon. I survived but was like, βWhy would someone put themselves through this pain?β I did it again like an idiot. I went through the pain multiple times.
At this point, we fast forward six years later and Iβve put myself through pain, no PT, no hydration, and all that good stuff. My body is pretty much hanging by a thread. I went and carried a baby with a body that was falling apart. I donβt know what the medical term is. Not hip dysplasia but something along those lines where everything was jacked up.
I couldnβt even jog or run without any pain. I had pelvic floor dysfunction after the pregnancy so I had a whole bunch of work that I needed to do before I could even touch the Tread+ or the bike. It sucked for me because I got the tread right after the baby was born. I started doing a little walking. Emma had her Crush Your Core. I was doing a little bit of that.
After I hit the eight-week appointment with the OB, she was like, βHold up. Pump the brakes. You shouldnβt be doing anything based on the complaints you have.β Thatβs when my first halt happened and I couldnβt do anything. Sheβs like, βYou need to get into PT ASAP.β I got through two PT sessions and then the world shut down.
Here I am with pretty much a piece of paper of the exercises she told me to do and was like, βWeβll talk when the world opens back up.β Weβre thinking itβs going to be a 2 or 4-week thing. As you know, it was not a 2 or 4-week thing. It was very defeating for somebody active their whole life. They now have a baby and theyβre like, βHow do I stay active when theyβve told me I canβt stay active?β
That sounds so frustrating.
At that point, I still had my subscriptions, charging me monthly. I wasnβt using it. Being on social media helped keep me sane. I was like, βIβll come back to this eventually.β Instructors were posting fun content in their homes where they were still teaching and trying to keep people going through the pandemic. I was tuning into some of that. That helped morale-wise with Peloton and not falling off completely. That was the first stop.
Navigating Peloton Through Injuries And Setbacks
It was early 2021 when I was going back again doing PT religiously in a facility and getting back in shape. I was like, βLet me start getting back into Peloton again.β Something about me is I forgot all the hard work Iβd put into all the PT and didnβt do warmups. Iβm like, βIβm good.β I jumped on the tread with no warmup or stretching. I ended up with another injury again. I was like, βThis is frustrating.β I would start and go up fast, from 0 to 100, and then get injured.
In 2021, I was probably doing workouts three days a week but it wasnβt anything too crazy. I would do one day on the bike, one day on the tread, and then one lifting class or something like that. In 2022, I got pregnant again. This was around when Kirsten Ferguson came. I was like, βThis is exciting. Sheβs a mom too.β I connected with her. I was like, βMaybe I can hold on to that and do her walks.β She started doing the walks plus runs. That motivated me and got me back again doing that 2022 timeframe.
I had my son and I was like, βIβm going to focus the rest of this year building back and getting strong.β I started taking a lot of Adrianβs, Radβs, and Jess Simβs classes. I was focusing solely on that. I was taking Kirra and Marianaβs stretching classes and yoga. I was honing in on hip mobility and all the things that I neglected for years. In 2023, I was like, βNow that Iβve done that, my goal for June is to run my very first road race.β
I signed up for a 5K and it was in Baltimore. It was called the Baltimore Womenβs Classic 5K. I had that goal. I was like, βThis is what Iβm going to focus on from January through April.β I still was doing my PT every day. I never neglected it again. I was warming up and doing cool-downs. Believe it or not, that was never me. If you told me ten years ago, βWeβll leave you warming up and cooling down,β Iβve been like, βAbsolutely no.β
Iβm doing all the things, checking off all the boxes, and seeing positive outcomes of being able to continue and not having to stop every five seconds. I got through the race and was super happy. I continued going on along with my Peloton journey. Fast forward again, in January 2024, I was training for a half in November but I started in January. I got a stress fracture in my foot at the end of February and early March. I was like, βAre you kidding me? I canβt catch a break.β
That was the last stop I had and hopefully the last ever. That was honestly the hardest one because I was doing everything right this time but minus a couple of things. I didnβt give myself breaks in between the classes and listening to my body. How does this workout feel and things like that? That was the last halt and that halt took two months. I was out from March through June. That was very frustrating.
The Power Of Peloton Community And Staying Motivated
It was in my foot. I started swimming during that time and listening to meditations. Instead of thinking of what you canβt do, focus on what you can do. With Peloton, the beauty of the app is thereβs so much content. I was like, βI can do meditation, stretching, even upper body strength, and core.β Letβs focus on what you can do. In 2024, they added the modality where you could even do an open run or walk. I could log cardio. Iβm still feeling included and getting my check mark for the day. You feel like youβre doing something. It helped me stay on track and still feel like I was moving toward a goal, even though it wasnβt the goal I had set out for the beginning of the year.
After I got that green mark from the doctor in June 2024 to continue running again, I was like, βItβs not too late to go after that goal of the half marathon.β That was what I focused on pretty much that summer and I was able to achieve the goal. The moral of the long-winded story is donβt give up. Focus on what you can control. Thereβs always going to be a bright, beautiful rainbow at the end of the tunnel. You have to keep pushing forward. Donβt look back. Thatβs my two cents for that long-winded story.
Sheβs got a bike and a tread. She couldnβt use either. She took up swimming. That means triathlon.
Sheβs got to get a row. You could be a triathlete.
I could but Iβm just going to clap for other people. Iβm going to admire that one from afar.
Itβs wonderful to have the focus of a training plan. It also takes up a lot of time. Itβs also nice to not have a training plan. I do understand. Iβve been to both of those places. I still have a love-hate relationship with it.
Looking at what you have to do in the upcoming week gives you structure. Itβs almost like good homework, not bad homework. Itβs nice to wake up and do what you want to do with that day.
Thereβs good homework?
I know what she means. Itβs the homework you enjoy. Tomβs like, βI never enjoy any homework.β I did.
I have to ask, what do you do for a living?
Iβm a government contractor, IT consulting, so computers and project management.
It all makes sense. Sheβs a project manager by trade. The idea of good homework for the two of you makes total sense.
We are connected.
I was a Mass Communications major. I got to listen to old-time radio. Thatβs homework. I listen to Jack Benny.
Iβm familiar. I often get lessons about pop culture I never asked for.
I went down a rabbit hole in the history of Shelley Fabares.
Itβs not a 30-second history. It was long.
He got the long-winded version of the start and stops that I gave.
Yes, very much. I know everything Shelley Fabares ever did, acting-wise. It didnβt stick.
Youβre ready for Trivia Night then.
Her idea of being ready for Trivia Night is bringing me.
Listen, I do the scores. I write down the numbers.
My handwriting is completely illegible.
I bring in all the answers and then occasionally when no one else at the table knows something like a country song, I got you. Thatβs all I got and everything I do. Thatβs about it at Trivia Night. I also bring great food besides that.
Teamwork makes the dream work.
Peloton Studio Experiences And Instructor Shoutouts
Through your Peloton journey, have you been to the studio since it reopened, since you came in at the end there?
Yes, I have, thankfully. The first time I went was in December 2023. That was for Jess Sims. We have this You Get 2 Crew ball. I went for the ball and said, βI might as well check out some classes while Iβm there in New York for that weekend.β That was my first time. Once I went one time to the studio it was like Disney World. I was cheesing the entire time. I was hooked. That was another level of endorphins I didnβt even know I could possibly endure, going to the studio. It was something else.
I went back again twice in January. I was like, βLet me make sure it wasnβt a one-time fluke or something.β I went back again. I went eight times in 2024 and was like, βThe New Yearβs resolution for 2025 is to sit down and give other people the opportunity to enjoy it.β I was going so much. They had the Lulemon weekend. I went for that. I donβt know if you saw the videos but Iβm a dancer. I made a fool of myself. It was the best time of my life.
Were you one of the people dancing when Adrian was out there?
Yeah. Me and him. Matt James and I were dancing together. I couldnβt sit down.
We played your video on the show. That was great. We loved it.
Thatβs hilarious. Thatβs so funny. That was me. My husband always laughs. Heβs like, βYou always say youβre not going to dance.β Youβre right there smack in the middle.
You had a great time and that is all that matters.
It was the best time.
What is your leaderboard name?
Itβs very hard. Itβs my first and last name. I kept it simple. I like seeing my name when Iβm running and Iβm like, βYou got this. You better run.β I had another name. It was Run Mama or something like that when I first joined. I was like, βThis is cute,β but I like the accountability of seeing my name and thatβs who identify with when Iβm on the leaderboard. When Iβm having a hard day, itβs like, βYou show that for yourself. When you take that class again, itβs Enuma versus Enuma on the leaderboard.β Thatβs why I went and changed it back to my name. Itβs Enuma Iyob. Thatβs the same with my Instagram, too. I keep everything consistent with the same name.
Favorite Peloton Instructors And Classes
I love the branding. I am curious about how often you get shoutouts, though. Your name is not a name that you see all the time. Itβs not like Emily or something. Do you get a lot of shoutouts?
This is funny. Letβs start with a shout-out. Shout out to Alex Toussaint because anytime he gives me a shout-out, heβs like, βMolly, Jessica, Enuma.β He changes the beat. He makes sure he pronounces it perfectly. Iβm like, βThank you.β Itβs funny because itβs like, βMolly, Jessica, Ashley, Enuma,β purposely. Iβm like, βThank you, Alex.β Itβs always funny when Iβm waiting like the first day of school. Iβm like, βHowβs it going to go?β
Itβs almost funny for me when my friends text me, βWas that supposed to be your name?β Iβm, βWeβll go with it. I heard it. I heard the effort.β Sometimes if itβs a HIIT class, theyβre calling the name. Iβm like, βDonβt choke. Keep running. I heard it. Thank you.β Itβs funny. Iβve taken Jess Simsβ class in person and she pronounces my name well too. Sheβll be, βEnuma.β Theyβll leave the last name out because they know who I am. She and Alex are good with my name, and Marcel too. Iβve connected with them so itβs easier like, βEnuma is on the leaderboard.β
Theyβve connected you as a person with your leaderboard name.
Itβs not just a word.
Itβs not just a leaderboard name. That makes sense. Thatβs awesome.
Some people try to act like theyβre choked. Iβm, βDonβt worry. I heard the shout-out. It was for me.β
I picture a world where thereβs some other lady named Enuma. Sheβs like, βThat was mine. You stole my shout-out.β
Itβll be hilarious. Itβs yet to happen but my ears are ready just in case. The funny thing is Iβll usually tell my friends to join me for my milestone. Sometimes the instructors will pause and be like, βThatβs yours. Itβs coming.β Theyβre trying to figure out what to say. It cracks me up every time.
They have to prepare themselves.
Itβs always funny.
Itβs good that you can see the humor in it. Iβm sure that gets frustrating sometimes. I donβt have problems with the pronunciation of my name so much, although some people struggle with if itβs OβKeefe or OβKeefee. I get that a lot but itβs the damn apostrophe.
That gets us messed up all the time.
The apostrophe is the worst on web forms. Itβs awful.
Going out of the country with him is a nightmare because heβs also a junior. Between the apostrophe and the junior, itβs always a thing. My maiden name is Wishon and nobody can ever say that right. They make up things that are way too complicated. Itβs super simple but people make it into this super complex thing every time. Itβs happened since I was in grade school. Itβs funny.
You get it.
The more unique a name is, the more trouble people will have.
How do they say our last name in Mexico all the time?
Itβs always OβKeefe. They always address you.
Thatβs hilarious.
Theyβre always like, βTom OβKeefe.β Weβre like, βThatβs us.β
After the first day, itβs like, βThatβs fine. Weβre the OβKeefeβs now. Weβll assimilate.β
If they pronounce it correctly, you wonβt even turn around anymore.
Thatβs right. Thatβs what we call a first-world problem.
Do you have a preferred instructor?
Itβs funny because I like doing a little bit of everything. The tread is my baby. I would say my number one in the tread is Jess Sims, Marcel, and Kirsten. Now that AT has joined the tread club, I like his classes there too. His Friday Club Bangers on the tread are fun. For cycling, AT is my number one on the bike. I love Camilaβs classes. Who else do I take leaning towards on the bike?
I do Matt Wilperβs Power Zone classes and Tunde. I donβt have a favorite. Iβm like that with anything. You ask me what my favorite food is, itβs pizza. I like a little bit of everything. Itβs hard for me to pick one thing but I would say if I had to pick one person, if Iβm being trapped in a hotel with an instructor, it would be Jess Sims. Sheβs my favorite.
She would entertain you, for sure.
We would entertain each other. The last time we had our strength class together, it was funny. I made her do a couple of dances.
Is there a row in your future?
In Orangetheory, I rode, Itβs that exercise where itβs great but I could live without it. It is pretty. Iβve gone to the store in Tysonβs. Iβve seen it many times and Iβm like, βThis would be nice in our gym but itβs not a need.β Itβs maybe a wishlist thing but itβs not something Iβm buying right now.
Maybe if thereβs a third kid, and then you have the pressure if thereβs a fourth kid. Youβll always be a little bitter towards that kid because you would just get a Guide.
He gets the Tonal.
There you go. Youβre like, βThis one got me a tread. This one got me a bike. You just got me a Guide.β
I can order that off Amazon.
Thatβs $45. Big deal. Pay for your own college. Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to join us. We appreciate it. Before we let you go, remind everybody where they can find you in all the places.
You can find me on Instagram. Itβs @EnumaIyob. Thatβs the same with my leaderboard name on the Peloton app. With Facebook, itβs the same thing too. I made it easy.
Good branding.
Thank you for having me, too.
We appreciate it. It was a lot of fun chatting with you and getting to know you.
Likewise. I hope I run into you guys at the studio or on the leaderboard.
That would be a lot of fun. Hopefully, we do.
βββ
