Are you fully recovered?

I am.

That was a surprisingly easy recovery for you.

It was. I feel like I was pretty recovered the last time we recorded. It was nothing like Big Sur. I’m getting more sore from the weightlifting workouts I am now doing than I did the entire marathon.

That’s a bunch of muscles you haven’t used in a long time.

My body reminds me of that but it’s so nice to do something different.

I bet. You were doing so much running and it was so time-consuming.

Also so structured, It was so like you got to do this on Sundays. You got to do this on Thursdays.

The paid off as you were seeing.

That fact that I had a very easy recovery, although I got tired toward the end, given that it was 26 freaking miles, that was pretty easy. The training made a difference. It’s huge.

For sure. If anyone is ever contemplating, the training makes a difference. You’re doing it for a reason.

Those long runs mean everything.

You are in the middle of it being like, “Why am I doing this?”

It’s normal and in the last six weeks, you will be questioning everything like why did you ever sign up for this, I get it, but it’s worth it. Those long runs especially are worth it.

What pray tell do you have in store for people?

We have our guest Paola and she’s going to talk about her Peloton journey, which is a little bit different than other journeys we’ve explored before. That’s fun. We also are going to be talking about Peloton’s new November Member Love that they have going on. This whole month, they have different things they’re doing. They’re trying to focus on the members and lots of very interesting feedback from the video I posted.

Also, talking with different people, I found that Peloton is having some weird issues with walks all of a sudden, like an outdoor walk. Peloton is going to be selling apparel on the Nordstrom marketplace. The Peloton blog has tips for training for a marathon on a treadmill, which I highly recommend you read. Peloton Guide is on sale for $45. We’re going to talk about Becs because this is exciting and it’s happening now. It’s going. It’s on. I’m so excited, scared, and nervous for her. It’s like I’m doing it but without any of the pain that goes with it.

Also, travel.

Although I think that’d be such a cool adventure if somebody could pay for everything and do all of my training.

This one is closed. It is closed now. What they did is they opened it up and then you could talk about a friend you’re grateful for and hashtag your comment with Peloton sweepstakes. It closed on the 10th and three lucky winners are going to get a $100 apparel eGift card. That is nice. You can get a shirt for that. It’s cool that they’re doing this. I have to say how amused I am by the fact that we talked about how this particular thing that they’re doing is awesome.

It is also coming up against a lot of members feeling super frustrated with Peloton because they are long-time members. There seems to be this misunderstanding that because I talk about long-term members, people assume it has to do with live classes and it’s not that. It is that the long-time members are the reason the Peloton got big, to begin with. It was the word of mouth and the word of Facebook.

When people talked about the cult of Peloton, it started with those people.

When I say OG, I am not talking about myself. I started in 2016. I am not an OG. I am close to an OG but I am not an OG. OG is 2013 and 2014, the kickstarters, the original ones with the bikes. When they had a class, there were 50 people. There was no leaderboard. They had a chalkboard. That is an OG. They were around and they brought so many people into the Peloton community.

Those are the disillusioned ones. Those are the ones that have been left behind and forgotten by Peloton. I get that a lot of people don’t understand it because wherever you came into Peloton, whether that be 2018, 2020, 2022, or 2024, whatever you have walked into has become your normal and you did not see it. I get it. It’s not going to feel the same to you.

In terms of whenever you walk in, that’s what you view as normal, which is human nature. It’s not a character flaw, but that’s also true of the company. There was almost nobody there from the beginning. It’s almost entirely turned over.

I’m sure there are people but off the top of my head, I can’t think of anybody.

There are a couple of instructors. That’s It. Everybody else is gone. It’s a time of change. A decade will do that. The world has changed a lot in ten years.

Helper Bee Nikki brought to our attention that the Peloton app seems to be having trouble tracking people’s walks.

I don’t know if this is any exercise that you do on the Just Walk, Just Strength, or any of those, or if it happens to be just happening with Walk. What Nikki is experiencing and other people in the team have also experienced is that you start an activity and then you go and do it, and then maybe you get caught up in something else. Maybe you go for a dog walk and then halfway through your walk, you’re talking to a neighbor, so you stop walking. Now your heart rate comes down. The app decides you’re done.

You have to watch that because granted it is not the same as a continuous hard workout, but sometimes you’re going to get interrupted in the middle of things. I have not experienced this, but I have not turned it on while we’re walking the dog, for example, because she’s so slow. I don’t know that my heart rate ever gets up because she sniffs everything.

She’s actually not slow.

She dashes from sniff spot to sniff spot.

She’s constantly stopping to sniff.

There’s not a lot of flow to our walks. I’ve never turned it on. I sometimes use my Apple Watch to turn on a Walk because it senses that we’re walking, but I never turn the Peloton on for that. I do use it for Just Strength whenever I’m using the Tonal because I like to get my minute credits for that. I have not experienced this issue. However, I’m also not stopping, so it’s a little bit of an apples-to-oranges comparison. I’m curious if other people have seen it because Peloton is not tracking this as an official issue. I’m curious to hear if other people are experiencing it.

I’m surprised the app doesn’t hear a Tonal instructor and then stops counting it toward the minutes. Absolutely, not.

The funny thing is the whole point of those “Just” whatever is that you can use any equipment. I figured why should I not get credit for that? Other people are doing strength on the Peloton. I’m doing strength the Tonal. I want my credit, so I do both.

Peloton is going to start selling apparel on the Nordstrom Marketplace website.

I thought this was interesting. I always forget that Jen Cotter is also over on apparel now because she’s been the chief content officer forever. I often forget that in addition to that, she also oversees the apparel. She recently revealed that Peloton is going to be testing the idea of offering its line to other retailers where its customers shop. That’s starting with Nordstrom.

They’re launching it like a beta test. This holiday season, we already know about Peloton and the Bike+. At the same time, they’re going to be trying to put their apparel at another retailer. This will be super interesting. The only thing that they’ve done anywhere close to this is Lululemon. Even Lululemon is a little bit different because they’re still selling it through their website. This is a little different.

This is Peloton-branded apparel. This isn’t a collaboration with other brands. It specifically Peloton outfits.

They’ve been having a lot of collaborations lately. We talked about the GoodPark NYC. That’s some small New York City brand that I think is focused on golf. I don’t know that. I think I made that up, but they’re small in New York City. They have a partnership with Lululemon. They have other partnerships like the one with the little bags that we talked about. There are those things, but this is the first time they have said, “Sell our stuff in your store.”

I wonder if this means maybe you’ll see less clearance. Instead of putting it on clearance, will they move the inventory to these third-party websites? Maybe even sell it at a slightly reduced cost, but not as steep as maybe the clearance rates you see.

It’ll be interesting. They’ve been doing a version of that in a TJ Maxx thing.  Their clothing has shown up in TJ Maxx, like accessories too.

Those are normally super steep.

That’s a very big discount though.

TJ Maxx is I think a little lower-end.

You can get some good deals there. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but that’s a very different approach than selling at Nordstrom. It’ll be interesting to see how this goes. I have no idea how it will go. Good or bad, I don’t. At this point, so many people used to buy their clothes religiously.

It used to be a big deal when there was a new drop. Now it’s like, “What else?”

They don’t have nearly as many exciting colors and designs. Part of the difference that I know new people are tired of hearing, back in the old days, part of the excitement about that was you got to wear your new clothes to your classes. You got to wear them to special events. It’s so much harder to get into the studio right now. Now everybody has the same outfits. Whereas before, they sold them in such a limited quantity. It’s like you have the American Heart Association. You must have gotten that instantly.

You got the cheetah print.

Do you remember that one?

I do.

That’s very different than today. If you want it, you can get it. It’s not that difficult, except for living in another country. I know you folks have a whole different set of logistics to deal with.

The Peloton blog, which we haven’t mentioned for a little while, has some tips for marathon training on a treadmill. I guess a lot of people are skeptical about whether you can get a good enough training period on a treadmill for a marathon. Peloton, makers of a treadmill, say yes, you can.

I have to give Jeffrey a shout-out because he was interviewed for this. He had a lot to say about this and was very excited about this on his social media. I have to give him a shout-out because he’s the kindest person.

He was very nice.

The thing is when you have a treadmill, you can do the training. What’s tough about it is making yourself do it. Here’s what I found. If I left the house and I was far away, and there was no point of stopping. You might as well finish. You have to at least comeback.

If you stop, you have to get home unless you’re calling Uber.

You could but I would never do that unless I was hurt, like the time I got hit by a car. That was different.

You call an ambulance, not an Uber.

I didn’t. Some random nice person did it for me, but except for something extreme like that. On the flip side, there were many times I thought, “I’ll go home and finish on the treadmill.” Not one time did I do that.

I wouldn’t miss it.

I will call myself out for it. There were other days that it was super hot outside. I started on the treadmill, I finished on the treadmill. I was able to get those runs in, but I can stay in one direction for a long time, but if I switch and if I come home, it’s over.

I’m home now. I’m sitting down. I’m in the shower.

If you’re out there in the wild and you ran 10 miles from your house, you have to come back to 10 miles. That’s why I like an out and back. It’s hard to find a safe route that you can do that long of an out and back. That’s a whole other conversation. You can do that on the treadmill. What is difficult about it is making sure you do things like make yourself go all the miles, finding something interesting to do the entire time, if you’re slow like me, making sure you get the hills. That’s a hard thing.

You can put 1% on pretty easily and forget it’s there, but to make yourself mid-run, go to 4%, and hold it, that’s a big tall ask if you’re 8 miles in, “Do I have to do that hill?” It is so important to do the hills. I would never have thought I would say this but I am grateful for all the hills around our house because you have no choice. You’re out there. You have to go up the hill. You have to come down the hill. It’s there.

Missouri has lots of obstacles, especially for women. We should also point out quickly that the Peloton Guide is once again on sale for $45.

This is great. This is so good, especially for people who want to be in the Peloton world and don’t have the money for a $2,000 piece of equipment because you can get all the classes with a guide membership. I’m not talking about your App Plus, your App Select, or all that crap. You get a Guide membership. For $24 a month, you have access to every single class, except for the scenic ones, and things like that that are built into the equipment.

You can’t do Lanebreak.

No, you can’t do Lanebreak.

I think this is the best secret if you are a cost-conscious consumer and you don’t want to spend $45 a month. You get yourself a Guide, you do the Guide membership, and you get all the other stuff on whatever piece of equipment that you like, or almost all the other stuff for $25 a month. If you’re looking to save money, this is the way to do it. If you’re a college student and you’re bouncing around, you never know what piece of equipment you’re going to have access to, even if you never touched the Guide, it’s worth doing it just for that membership.

You get everything and you can do your yoga classes and your strength classes. You can go to the gym, log in on your app, and do whatever is there. It makes it so much easier. This is the way to go if you are cost-conscious and you want to have access to all the classes. This is the best way to do it, $45 for the Guide and then $24 a month for everything.

Hello.

It’s so good to have you here. We have a question from Nikki Smith. She is wondering how she can find balance during the back-to-school season.

I have twins who are doing college applications and I get it. We have to be reasonable about what our obligations are in our non-Peloton life, and what we need to do to feel sane and meet the minimum boxes of what we need for our bodies. If you know that you’re going through a period where for the next three weeks, as your kids acclimate back to school, it’s going to be heavy homework, that back-to-school nights, lots of events, and all that sort of stuff. What you may want to do is alter your routine and make sure that you are not mean to yourself for not doing what you normally do.

Sometimes we are not good about giving ourselves permission to roll with the punches because some of us are rigid b*tches. We are rigid with our expectations of our workouts. Other people aren’t and God bless those people. That’s great. When you get rigid about your workout and life gives you a lot of obligations that you have to work with figuring out, “What do I need to do to maintain my fitness level? Just maintain where I’m at for the next few weeks,” or whatever the period of time is.

There’s also something to be said for showing your kids self-care, to be able to say, “I’m driving you to school but I’m not driving you to Tommy’s house until my workout is over. You can wait the half hour until I’m done because this is part of my self-care.” Look at where can you say no, and it’s reasonable and appropriate, and where you can say yes, and also what boundaries you can make to protect your time, space, workout, and mental health.

That makes a lot of sense. Something you’ve also said before, not necessarily related to this in general but it was helpful to me, is to remember how you feel right now is not necessarily forever. I always have to remember that.

When we get into a difficult period of time, especially those of us who feel things intensely, it can feel like whatever you’re feeling at that moment, you’re going to feel that way forever. One of the things we learn as we get older and as we’re able to look at our own patterns is that we have those big feelings and those feelings pass. They’re like waves. They feel like they’re going to knock us over and we’re okay. They go back into the ocean and then another wave comes. We survive the waves and it’s going to be okay.

I was thinking about a good movie I saw called Waves, starring Sterling K. Brown. Saint Louis’s own Sterling K. Brown, and Peloton user. In the right headspace, it is a gut punch of a movie so it’s good.

Becs Gentry has begun her Great World Race adventure and she had to start a day early.

They had planned to start on Thursday.

Antarctica said, “You will do it now.”

We’ve talked to other people we’ve had on the show before who had done races in Antarctica. Not this specific one but they’ve done races in Antarctica. You have a weather window and you have to go with whatever the weather is.

You hang until the weather looks clear enough for you to get in.

Get in and then get back out. They had planned to start on Thursday, the 14th. They ended up having a window to get in on the 13th. That is today and they were flying in to start that race. It is happening, which also means if you were planning to go to visit Miami and watch her at the finish line, instead of that being on Thursday, it’s now going to be on Wednesday.

Everything slides up if that happens.

The whole point of this race is 7 marathons, 7 continents, and 7 seven days, so they decide to start early. The Great World Race has put together a Twitch channel. They do plan to show as much of the races as possible. Keep in mind that it is in difficult places like Antarctica.

The Wi-Fi is a little spotty in Antarctica, you might guess.

I don’t know how many of the races will be available but they are doing their very best to be able to put it out there. You can track along with Becs through the Great World Race on Instagram or Facebook. You can also follow Becs’s husband and he will be putting up all of her updates out there as well. Lots of places. Austin is on top of it.

She’s like, “I love you, but you’re not getting my Instagram.”

I don’t think he wants it, would be my guess.

He’ll be like, “No way.”

You would break it.

That is why you would let me use it.

I think Austin can handle it, but he probably doesn’t want to, would be my guess.

I can’t even imagine.

Me neither.

While we’re talking about Becs, she canceled a class because she was still under pressure. Don’t blame her.

How crazy would that be? Her send-off class was on Saturday. On Friday, she canceled a class. She started to get all of her stuff together and do the final packing. She got super overwhelmed because she was leaving her child and she’s got a big trip. It’s a lot of pressure.

Even for elite athletes, 7 marathons in 7 days and 7 continents, that’s a lot.

She finishes in Miami and then has to turn right back around and be back at Peloton teaching the next week. No time off. Not really. That’s a lot to ask of your body to be doing that.

Unless that class can be a walk.

It’s scheduled as a run, but we shall see.

It’s a walk for me.

We would all be like, “You do you, Becs.”

Lululemon announced a collaboration with Disney. You will notice that collaboration involves Lululemon and Disney but not Peloton, so why are we talking about it here? Fascinatingly enough, the announcement, even though it’s not Peloton-related, involved Cody Rigsbym who is a Disney fan.

He is a huge Disney fan and is a Lululemon ambassador. I thought it was fascinating that they did this big thing on Peloton socials. It was on Lululemon socials, but not on Disney socials. It didn’t say Disney anywhere. They were like, “Something is coming,” then the tease with Mickey ears, so we thought it was Disney.

The next day when it was posted, nothing on the Peloton website, but it was on the Lululemon website then the other interesting thing is that Cody is not on the Lululemon website. I don’t think that means anything other than how targeted they’re being with their social media. I don’t think it means anything bad. I find it fascinating the choices that they make.

We’re not like, “This is an outrage.” It’s more like, “This is a fascinating marketing way to attack it.”

They have all of their usual Lululemon models on the Lululemon website. On socials, they put Cody and this woman named Piper. One of our tipsters found out that she is a Canadian ice dancer skater. She had to go find her. She was in the Olympics for Canada.

It just said, “Piper,” like I should know who Piper was. I’m like, “Who the hell is Piper?” Luckily, tipsters are all over it. She figured it out. I feel like Disney /Lululemon is trying to capitalize on these people who are known as Disney love fans and Lululemon ambassadors, which makes sense. They’re putting that on socials, but on their website, they’re focusing on their usual models. It’s fascinating.

Robin Arzon spoke at the Pennsylvania Conference for Women.

I didn’t even know there was such a thing but it makes sense.

Neither did I, but I am neither a woman nor a Pennsylvanian.

That’s fair. Robin does a lot of these talks and that makes sense. I did not realize that Robin was originally from Pennsylvania. In their little caption in Penn Women, it says, “From her Philly routes to pursuing her athletic dreams and the inner work that’s fueled her path to resilience.” She talked about things like saying, “No, thank you,” so that you can have your “Hell, yes.” I thought that was cool.

We have some opportunities to meet instructors at places that aren’t the studio.

There are a few stores left.

Jenn Sherman and Rebecca Kennedy are going to visit Peloton Nashville.

This is the store that reopened. They close the store in Nashville. Now, they’re opening a store in Nashville at a different location. Much smaller footprint. My understanding is it’s like a kiosk at the mall type of thing. It’s not the big footprint that it used to have. This is just a theory. Given that this is not the only instructor meet and greet we’re going to see this month, I think this is part of the November Love for the Members Month thing. I think this is all connected. That’s pretty cool. It’s going to be in conjunction with the Black Friday sale. If you could get some shopping done, you could meet Jenn. You could meet Rebecca. Good time.

You’re going to be standing in the line anyway. You might as well stand in the line for an instructor meet and greet.

Just like when you’re at the studio. Put your shoes down and go shopping. It’ll hold your line when you come back.

Also, if you’re in the Atlanta area, Alpharetta if you’re being specific. I looked it up it is within the metropolitan Atlanta area.

It’s not Chicago, so they probably won’t get as angry about it.

Jess Sims will be doing an in-store event.

That’ll be November 13th. This one is interesting because you have an opportunity to win a Peloton gift card for $500. They’re also going to have mocktails, juices, and things like that. It’s a little bit different than what they’re doing at the other store, which I also find fascinating.

They’re not just, “Here’s the thing,” and they’re replicating it in place after place. Also, the one gets two, and this gets one.

This one is built as a wellness event, whereas the other one is a meet and greet for Black Friday. Very interesting. Maybe this is an A/B test but Barry is not there anymore, so I don’t know. Do we even do A/B testing anymore?

They just do A’s. Finally, for this segment, Camila Ramon is going to teach a Spanish language series on the bike, or should I say show off my Spanish bike?

This is cool because recently we had two strength series that came out in Spanish, and now this is going to be the first bike series. That’s pretty cool.

I am more than surprised and flabbergasted that it’s taken this long.

That’s fair. It’s not like there are never any Spanish-speaking classes. It’s just this is the first time it’s been a series dedicated to just the bike.

There is no doubt that the entire Latin American and Spanish-speaking community within Peloton would agree with you. Why would you not do that?

As I said, I’m flabbergasted that it’s taken this long. Hopefully, there are many more of these to come. It seems like low-hanging fruit to scoop up new members.

I cannot disagree. I agree.

Peloton will be celebrating the CMAs with their Rising Country classes. I would like to commend them for resisting the urge to call it Risen Country.

I’ll go with that. I assumed that was because isn’t there a Rising Country on the satellite channels too.

I don’t know.

I don’t either. I haven’t used it in so long. It’s been so long. That’s the highway, so never mind. That’s fair. I would lose a little respect if we didn’t have a “G.” Good call to keep that there.

That’s a nod to the OGs. I think that’s what’s going on there. They almost called it Rosing Country.

Can I tell you that somebody put on my comments that part of the reason that the OGs have an issue with Peloton now is because they’re so old that the programming isn’t for them? I was like, “How old do you think these people are? Spin classes and strength are perfect for all ages. What are you even talking about?”

If you are a runner and you start to have issues with your knees, they tell you to switch to spin classes.

I was blown away. Social media, you never disappoint me. I’m always amazed at what you say.

You never disappoint me and so much as you always disappoint me. Do they think Peloton classes used to be in black and white?

I had no idea. I was like, “What?”

The original Peloton had a hand crank. It was like one of those bicycles you would see in artwork at Subway sandwich shops with the big giant front wheel.

I think we should add a whole segment like, “You won’t believe what they said this week.” It was like, “Wow. What?” Anyway, that’s our Rising Country classes. This is in time for the 58th Annual CMA Awards and there are going to be a lot of people who are not nominated for the CMA Awards that are going to be featured in The Rising Country classes that are coming up. That’s nice. Can you believe 58?

That’s a lot.

We have a new celebrity sighting. This time, it is Cynthia Erivo. She is your new Elphaba in Wicked.

She posted a whole behind-the-scenes from a day on the set of Wicked, but it started with her on her Peloton tread.

Tread or Tread+?

I’m pretty sure it was a tread because I remember it having the red line down the middle. I don’t remember having the slats. I could be wrong. It’s a very brief sighting.

Maybe for Wicked 2, they’ll get her a Tread+.

You never know.

She needs a new manager to negotiate these things.

I wondered if Peloton has some collab going with Wicked.

Matty Maggiacomo has been all over it.

He went to the premiere. He also went to an early viewing of it. He also did modeling for the clothing line that they have for Wicked. He went to the world premiere the other day. I don’t know what city it was in, but they were all dressed to the nines. All the stars were there. He is very plugged into the Broadway scene. I don’t know if it was a Peloton collab or if it was a Matty Maggiacomo collab.

Matty digs it and he’s got the juice to get into that stuff.

Go, Matty. It’s very cool.

Some sad news for CJ Albertson. We found out just a few hours before he ran the New York City marathon that he had a friend who passed away.

His friend Miguel Marin who had been one of his former athletes at Clovis Community College passed away in a car crash in Fresno County on Saturday. My understanding is that CJ Albertson found that out 24 hours before the race. CJ had hoped to go into that race as the first US male to finish. He ended up coming in 10th place, which is never a bad thing. Given that he was dealing with so many emotions while running, it is pretty amazing.

That’s a lot to take into a race like that.

He talks all about it on The CITIUS MAG Podcast which he’s been on numerous times. Best wishes to CJ and Miguel Marin’s family and friends.

Hydrow is going to release a new smart rower, but here’s the catch, you will not need a subscription to utilize it.

Isn’t that interesting? It allows you to have virtual destination classes but no instructor-led workouts. I am fascinated that Hydrow made a name for itself by being the first to the market with a smart rower. I know that when Peloton came out with the rower, it cut into that. Not to mention, the stupid pandemic cut into everybody. It’s interesting to see how all of these companies are fighting back and finding their own ways to reframe what they’re doing.

It is time for the TCO Top 5. You suggest the best classes of the week and then we decide who’s right. Number one, favorite ride. Before you start, everyone needs to know that if you had a different favorite ride, you were wrong. Dana Hirsch Fredericks says otherwise and she is correct.

We believe Dana and we believe Joe.

We have deemed this to be true.

It is true. It has been noted. This was the 30-minute epic sing-along ride that Jenn Sherman taught on November 10th. People loved it because a whole bunch of other instructors were in the class. Andy Speer, Mariana Fernandez, who always shows up for people, Marcel Dinkins, and Jess Sims. They were all there. Dana Hirsch Fredericks said it’s the best 30 minutes everyone needs. Joe Vocally said this was her favorite ride and she loved all of the instructors in the class. Marcel Dinkins’s vibe was 90% of the reason she enjoyed the class, but Jenn’s sing-along rides are always so much fun.

Number two, your favorite yoga conditioning class.

I took this class live, so I might have had a little bit of to-do with why this is here.

I feel like you are abusing your power.

Somebody asked me what I liked and this was one of the things I liked. It was a yoga class live with Mariana Fernandez on November 2nd. I had no idea.

We should say you took it live in the studio.

I was in the studio. Every once in a while, see my very awkward poses in the left-hand corner.

I was a big fan.

This class surprised me so much because when I heard yoga, I thought this would be perfect before I ran a marathon.

You specifically took it because you’re like, “This will be cake.”

I did not hear the emphasis on the word conditioning. I heard yoga. What I should have heard was, “Yoga and holding difficult poses and uncomfortable positions, so everything is going to hurt.” That’s what I should have heard but I didn’t.

Maybe that’s why you did so well in the marathon because you had conditioned yourself.

Mariana woke up all of my running muscles. In the end, Mariana dropped an F-bomb and it was due to the stupid foam block. We held it for a long time and she was like, “Let’s get rid of that thing.” She called it the F-ing thing and we all cheered because we were ready. It’s a great class.

Number three, your favorite yoga plus Pilates.

I’ve talked about this one before. This was the first time they’ve had this on the platform.

You’re in this again?

It wasn’t just me. Elizabeth Schlossberg also recommended this class. It was a 45-minute yoga and Pilates and Elizabeth said it was hard in the best way. I also added that the yoga was nice and relaxing between the tough sets of Pilates. I have been in a recovery place this week, so I had to take some recovery classes.

All this abuse of power. I will appoint you attorney general. Favorite music-themed ride. If this is Taylor Swift, I think we’re going to have to do an investigation.

Charlotte Weidenbach taught this class. It was a 45-minute Metal class on 11/9. It was the first 45-minute Metal class taught by Charlotte in English. Billy Lenore loved it. He loves Metal. He said, “Charlotte Metal classes are always a hit. This one has true Metal tunes to get you pumped from artists like Disturbed and Evanescence. It’s 38 minutes of cycling, two climbs, two jogs, and three sets of intervals.” Tom, before you start in on how Evanescence is not Metal.

I like Evanescence. I booked Evanescence’s first-ever show in Saint Louis. That was me. Fun fact, I offered them 30% more than they asked so I could poach it from another club, and it worked. I am not anti Evanescence to be clear, but I do not consider them Metal.

I have to agree. I don’t feel like Disturbed is either.

They were hard rock. I guess they played as fast and stuff, so I mean yeah.

I will also say when you were comparing and contrasting it with Peloton and what normally plays for people, it is Metal.

I like Evanescence stuff. I don’t think they consider themselves that. I think they even feel like it’s an insult. I think they’d be like, “We’re not Metal.”

I get it. Maybe it’s the only band that the person writing the article, Tina, recognizes. That’s possible.

It could be, but that’s not a reflection on Tina. She did not pick the music. Evanescence is in that class whether Tina listened to it or not.

I know. I was just saying maybe she pulled out the one that was the least. I don’t know. I looked at the playlist. I’m not picking on Tina. I’m just saying it’s also possible that she picked the lighter of the fair.

I’m saying the problem isn’t with Tina.

You’re right, It never should have been in the class, to begin with. I got it.

All she did was report the facts.

I agree and although many don’t agree with reporting the facts anymore, I appreciate it when people report the facts.

Finally, number five. Your unstackable. What did you recommend for people here?

That’s very rude to Karen. She nominated Katie’s four-day split plus row, the entire program. It starts with strength and it ends with the cardio HIIT and the row. She said by the time that she got to the row, her arms were like jelly. She’s never used her arms and shoulders so much.

That’s why it’s an unstackable.

Now, we will take a look at the goings on This Week at Peloton. We will start with marathons around the world, which we talked about a little bit. We’ll gloss over that.

I do want to say that what we should talk about here is that Peloton is highlighting classes that are in all the destinations that Becs will be running. There’s a new series of classes and they’re going to be dropping on demand on the 15th, so this Friday, we will see it. It’s going to be following where she’s going. It’s not necessarily like Becs because I don’t know who’s teaching it. What I do know is that there are going to be classes in all seven locations.

Do you think they gave her a GoPro? They were like, “Why don’t you get us an Antarctic scenic run while you’re there?”

I think their new scenic runs are the drone ones that we talked about, where they take footage and talk. That’s what I think these are, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but it’s very different from what we’ve seen in the past.

We also have Like Nobody’s Watching.

It’s a new signature series and it’s from Jeffrey. I think it’s his first signature series. This is the second or third installment in that signature series it’s. It’s a bunch of fun songs that would make you dance like nobody’s watching. That’s the idea. It’s taught in German the next one drops on November 12th at 5:00 PM British time.

We should remind people that Christian Vande Velde is back.

He’s got two new classes coming up that 60 minute pro cyclist, race simulation. That takes place on November 17th, and then there’s a 45-minute reel route that is coming up on the 17th. Those are both in-person classes that people can book. It’s been a long time since that’s happened.

The Turkey Burn was announced. Everybody wants to know when the Turkey Burn is going to be. We now know.

I am amused that they have a little timeline here. They show the different things that have happened that are of significance with the Turkey Burn.

Do you think they took that from your timeline?

I don’t know. I guess if Moms of Peloton can take credit for Adrian doing the meditations, I can take credit for a timeline Peloton is using. Why not? This 2024, it’s going to start on November 27th and they’re theming everything around meals this year. For example, the meditation that Chelsea is doing on the 27th is called a Gratitude Gathering.

On Thursday, November 28th, they’re going to have a Fit Family with Adrian and Jess Simms. They’re going to have a Turkey Trot with Kirsten. They’re going to have a Post-Meal Walk with Jess King. That’s new this year, 10 minutes to walk. They’re going to have a 20-minute Turkey Burn Row with Alex K. That’s all on-demand. Live is called The Feast. This is going to take place at 7:30 AM Eastern time on Thanksgiving. Here’s the deal, 45 minutes with Adrian, Andy, Camila, Logan, Rad, and Rebecca. What the hell are they doing?

I don’t know.

Somebody said it was strength. Maybe it is. I am not saying it’s not. Is it, or is it a mixture? I am so curious to know what is new this year. Also that day, there’s going to be the Turkey Burn Run with Alex Toussaint, Turkey Burn Ride with Robin, and then on Friday, a yoga flow with Kirra, and then brand new this year, Saturday, November 30th, a Jingle Jog with Adrian and it will be live outdoor. Second live outdoor class ever. Trying some new things up, Peloton. I love it.

I love to see new stuff.

As much as I was teasing about the timeline, I genuinely appreciate that on their timeline, they said, “In 2023, broke two world records,” and our platform’s sad face. In the caption, they said, “At its core, this is always been about you. Last year, we broke records together but also our platform. We don’t give up when things go wrong, so let’s do it again, and let’s do it better.” Very nice sentiment.

That is not the only thing going on in November.

A lot is going on in November. First of all, we have the Good Night Peloton new evening mindfulness classes. This was interesting and I think we’re talking about it in the bonus episode. We will talk about it in a second, but the Good Night Peloton classes that are brought up are meditations that are done by some new instructors who have never done meditations before. In a moment, we will talk about whose voice you most love to hear. That was fun.

They are evening meditation specifically. We also have new stroke rate row classes that are going to help you with your rowing performance. They say to run to a rhythm and you do the same thing with your rowing. You try to get good at hitting the same stroke rate over and over again because that makes you a better rower. That is going to be taught by Alex K., Ash, and Katie.

Veterans Day is over, but some classes that commemorate it are still available for people.

They had two classes that were on demand. One was on demand with Christine. It was a 30-minute Veterans Day ride with Christine that dropped on the 11th, and then taught on the 11th was a 30-minute Veterans Day run with Marcel Dinkins. Not listed on this list though was a class that Alex Toussaint taught that had all veterans in the class. I don’t know if it was maybe not themed as Veterans Day, but he had all veterans in it. That’s why it was not included on this list, but I wanted to make sure we included it as well.

At long last, the Good Night Peloton evening meditations.

I’m checking because I pulled this early today and it didn’t have a ton of answers on it. The percentages have not changed. Coming in at 67% on Instagram is Adrian. That’s the new voice from the new instructors that people liked. That doesn’t surprise me because people have been asking for Adrian for meditations for years.

Even I know that.

I do have to give an honorable mention that when I posted this on Facebook, I forgot to disable that you can add other votes. I didn’t disable it. Susan Burton Dutton, I love her. She sneakily added one of the other instructors which was Denis, but he was already on meditation. He’s been doing it. She added him and he vastly outweighed everybody else on Facebook. Denis took the win by a lot on Facebook. Over on Instagram, Adrian is the king.

Peloton is celebrating days of gratitude by offering deals on apparel.

They did something like this last year. It looked a little bit different, but the gist was the same. Some deals are going to be dropping daily. The very first ones that dropped were like sweaters. They look like ugly Christmas sweaters. I don’t know how else to say it. They have different versions of that. The idea is that you can collect them all, and I doubt anyone will.

They’re fun to give your friends who are super into Peloton. You can buy them in a set, where you can get a hat that matches the sweater. That’s a cheaper way to do it. That’s fun. For day two, which dropped today, they had Beat the Winter Chill and so they had these puffy and soft furry white accessories. One was a Peloton hat. One was a big white puffy bag. One was old-school mittens, and one was a beanie hat. All of them had the same look to them and they were all winter white.

By the time you hear this since it’s days of gratitude, there will be more.

Discovering Peloton

We’re excited about it. I like to start off these conversations by understanding how Peloton came into your life originally, how you found out about it, and why you decided to try it. Let’s start there.

I found Peloton because we were moving to a new house. We were renting. The owners have to leave the country and they offer us to rent the truck wheel with the house. I started lifting weights in the house we were in before, but I had a small gym in my garage. The idea of having a new gym with a treadmill and everything was exciting so we decided to give it a go.

A month after that, I got pregnant. It was my third child and the doctor put me to rest for the first semester. When I was in my second trimester I started working out again. I decided to add some cardio to my workouts. I started taking classes and I was like, “I’m getting more excited about the Peloton classes than lifting weights.” I used to love lifting weights. When I was 16 years old, I started lifting weights.

It was something like a click. I want to look forward to the Peloton classes. They launched something like Seven Weeks to Your 5K. I got excited and they said, “I’m going to look into the internet and I will find a race to do this seven-week preparation for a 5K.” I was four months or five right then. I had no running background. My husband was concerned.

I don’t blame him.

He was like, “Are you sure you should be running like pregnant right now? Why don’t you wait?”

Why are you starting this now?

I have to ask because I know we’re going to get a follow-up question about this. Did you speak to your doctor about the about the plan?

I did.

Thank you. You just saved us 45 emails.

I got asked a lot about it. I did talk with him and he said it was fine. I was active before the pregnancy lifting weights and moving around. He said, “As long as you listen to your body and everything feels good, you’re not pushing yourself too far like feeling some weird pain or something, that’s not what we want. We want to move the body, feel good, and have a healthy pregnancy. We don’t want you to go too far.” I have been working out and lifting weights since I was 16 years old. I know how to approach it even though it was something new. The classes on Peloton were nice because they have this program well structured. I will do two or maybe three days and they structured the workouts for you and it’s it’s nice. It was for beginners or for people who had never run before. I was into that. That was my first experience.

Strength Training

I’m curious because normally, women seem to do this in the other direction. They love cardio and then eventually, fall into strength training. When you said you decided to add cardio after however long of doing strength. I’m curious as a woman, what was the road that had you start with strength training because it’s counterintuitive? We don’t see that too often.

I started weight training early when I was in high school with a group of friends. It was more like hanging out at the gym. I found that I like working out and moving my body. It was good. I was more focused, I had more energy, and it was nice. I have enjoyed having a healthy life since very young. That was how I found my love for exercising. It was a way to hang out with my friends in high school.

Peloton Tread

When it comes to Peloton, another interesting thing about your journey is it’s unique that a lot of people find the Peloton bike before they find the Peloton tread. It’s also interesting that you found the Peloton tread. Another unique facet of your story is that you were renting the tread from a person. I don’t think I’ve ever heard that, and we have done a lot of interviews. That’s fascinating.

It was meant for me to find that treadmill and to start my running journey that way because I got asked through my Instagram, sometimes by different persons, “How did you start running? What can I do?” I always say I started on the treadmill. I started with Peloton. I always recommend Peloton classes because that’s what made me fall in love with running.

From Prego To 5k

I was curious how you transitioned. I know that they had the Couch to 5K program. That’s what originally got you looking at races. How did you go from a 5K to longer races? What was that transition like?

I was pregnant and I was new to running and I didn’t have a running background, so running 1 mile for me was a big milestone. It was something that started to build up. I even started an Instagram page called From Prego to 5K. That was the name of the Instagram. I couldn’t run even 1 mile. I remember the first classes, I was so focused on finishing the class, 20 minutes, 30 minutes. It was what I needed to do that day.

It was nice to see the progress, how you’re getting better and better, and then you start to see, “Today I run 1.5 miles. Maybe next week, I will run 2. I will try to run 2.” I started to be interested in looking at the distance I was running during the classes. That got me excited to keep pursuing maybe running longer. Because I was pregnant at the moment, I didn’t want to go like 4K up to 5K, but that taught me the feeling that maybe after the pregnancy, I would go for it.

For now, I’ll wait. Now I started to enjoy the pregnancy. I was so happy that I was able to meet my goal of running the 5K, and then I did a little series that they do here in Houston. You complete three different races and you win a medal for completing the challenge of three 5Ks. I stick to that goal. That was my running journey during my pregnancy, finishing the series.

You did all 5Ks while you were pregnant. You didn’t start till your second trimester.

I did four 5Ks and one 4K. It was a bib-told challenge. It was meant to create awareness about mental health. I did the race. It was a bib-told race. They send you the beep and everything, and then you do what you’re told whenever you want to.

I’m curious. If you had moved into a house with a bike instead of a tread, would you be doing a bike right now?

I don’t know. Maybe.

Getting Back On Tread

Getting back to the transition to longer races. You stuck with the shorter races during your pregnancy, which makes total sense. At what point did you go back to running on the treadmill? Postpartum is so different for everybody. You said that was your third child. That’s not an easy road.

I feel like she handed the baby to her husband and was like, “I’ll be running home. That’s what I’m doing.”

I was looking forward to the first two months because I had this active pregnancy. I had a C-section because my two prior babies were C-section. I have no option there. I had to get a C-section and I had to rest for about eight weeks. I was like so looking forward to starting running again and moving again because my body was so used to being active. You suddenly are in bed for 3 or 4 days because of the C-section. It was hard the first weeks but after that, I started to get into it again. When I had to go from my doctor, I started hoping again on the treadmill.

That was around November. Before that, I spent a lot of time looking for what race I was going to do next. I have all this plan in my head, waiting for the moment to start working out again to do a half marathon. The half marathon here in Houston was in January. I had maybe two months to prepare for the half marathon. It was a challenge and I didn’t have any running experience, like how to structure a cycle or a plan to be able to run that distance.

I hop into Instagram looking for tips and recommendations from coaches that have platforms there and they maybe recommend and do some tips and everything. That’s how I got my first half marathon, following tips on Instagram. I have a friend that I convinced to start running with me. She had no running background and she said, “Let’s do it.”

We started to train together for two months for this half marathon and we ran together in January. It was nice. When I crossed the finish line, I got goosebumps. It was so emotional to be able to meet that goal that I set my man to. That’s why I love running. I love doing these cycles and preparing to meet certain goals that you set yourself. Maybe it’s completing the race at a certain time, whatever it is. When you are able to do it, it’s surreal. I don’t know how to explain it.

Marathon Plans

A lot of work goes into it. I hope that that means that you feel the pride of being able to accomplish the goal that you had set out to do. That’s awesome. What was next after a half marathon? Is that your longest race to date?

Yes.

That’s a lot for starting with never having run before. That’s crazy. Congratulations.

I’m planning on keeping on doing half marathons for now. I want to improve my time in it. I enjoy that distance. Some people sometimes ask me, “Why don’t you do a marathon?” I think like, “Do I need to run a marathon or not?” Definitely not. That’s not my plan yet. Maybe in 1 year or 2 years. I don’t know if I will have to decide tomorrow about it maybe, but today. I love the whole marathon distance and I enjoy it.

I think that’s great. That’s awesome.

It’s important to enjoy it. Some people get so focused on the challenge and pushing themselves, which I get. In the abstract, I have none of those feelings. I understand other people might, but it’s also okay to be like, “This is what I enjoy.”

When I started on my running journey, I was convinced by somebody else to try the half marathon distance and I did, and I enjoyed that. It was hard.

Just the right amount of challenge for you.

Now I am training for my first marathon. I’ve walked a marathon on my treadmill but I’ve never done a race. I’m in the very end stages of that.

She’s miserable.

I am tapering now. Tapering is okay, but in the last few weeks when the distances were so long, I do not recommend it for a person who wants to have balance in their life because I am a slow runner. There’s nothing wrong with that at all, but when you are a slow runner, it takes so long to do the miles. If you’re a 15-minute or longer mile person like I am, you’re going to be out there training for 5 and 6 hours at a time. That’s a lot of days.

You might have other things like you have kids or a job that you need to do. It might be difficult to keep up with everything. I think that having done the training for both, right now, my headspace is very much half marathon is awesome. Marathon is a lot of commitment. There’s nothing wrong with it. I think that it’s amazing that people can do it. At the same time, I also think that it’s a less time-sensitive commitment to be able to do a half marathon and it’s still a major physical challenge.

Leaderboard Name And Favorite Instructor

What is your leaderboard name?

It’s nothing special. It’s Paobaku. I put together my complete name. The first two letters of my first name, second name, and last name.

That’s awesome.

Do you have a preferred instructor?

I do like Becs. I relate to her. I don’t know, there’s something that I like about her. Her classes are very challenging. I do like Jess. I remember a class with her where something that she said spoke to me.

Are we talking about Jess King or Jess Sims?

Jess Sims. She says something in the class. I don’t remember. It was like an interval session. We were getting to the end of the intervals. It was hard and I was about to quit, like to put a stop to the treadmill and she said, “This is hard but you’re strong and you can do hard things.” I was like, “Yeah, I can do this. I finished my interval.

Since then, that phrase has become my mantra when I’m training or doing something and it feels hard. During a race, when I get to the point where I start doubting myself, thinking I cannot keep going. I need to stop, something hurts. Whatever I am thinking, I like to repeat, “You can do this, you have worked hard for this,” and then I always think about what she said, “You can do hard things.” I like that.

Do you have any advice for people just now entering the world of Peloton?

Enjoy the classes. Connect with the class. Listen to what the instructor is saying because they’re there to build you up and to help you keep going.

Finally, what’s going to happen if you move?

That’s what I was wondering.

I already moved into the house. I bought my Peloton. I needed one and I bought it and now I’m so happy with my Peloton.
