Dr. Jenn Mann on standing together against anti-Semitism.

Dr. Jenn: Standing Together Against Anti-Semitism

In episode 343 of The Clip Out Podcast, licensed marriage, family, and child therapist, and sports psychology consultant Dr. Jenn offered hope to listener Julie Benson, who was struggling with how to celebrate Hanukkah.

Julie shared, “Being Jewish has been hard this year.” She said that they only celebrate Hanukkah in her home. While they celebrate it with much love with family and friends, it also felt isolating this year and upsetting with the rise in anti-Semitism. Many of her Jewish friends and family did not want to display menorahs or draw any attention to the holiday.

The Impact of Anti-Semitism on the Jewish Community

Being Jewish in a world of rising anti-Semitism can be a difficult experience. Many members of the Jewish community feel isolated and upset, with some even hesitant to display traditional Hanukkah decor in fear of drawing attention to their faith. This year has been particularly challenging, with anti-Semitic attacks happening around the world.

Embracing Tradition and Community Support

Despite the daunting climate, Dr. Jenn – who is Jewish herself – encouraged the Jewish community to embrace their traditions and find support through their community. Non-Jewish friends and allies can offer support by reaching out and offering words of encouragement or even making donations to Jewish charities.

Education and Understanding

For people who are not Jewish but wishing to support their Jewish friends and community, a good place to start is education. It is important for people to educate themselves on the complex history of the Middle East to understand the underlying issues, but what is most important is treating each other with kindness and respect. To hate someone solely because of their religion is unacceptable. It is essential to uphold humanity and refrain from hateful and harmful behavior towards any group of people.
