Tunde’s “Speak” Gives Us All the Feels
If you’re looking for a great read that inspires you to follow your dreams, Tunde Oyeneyin’s “Speak” will get you where you need to be. Actually, the full title of the book tells you almost everything you need to know about Tunde and the amazing path that led her to where she is today: “Speak: Find Your Voice, Trust Your Gut, and Get From Where You Are To Where You Want To Be”. Could any more inspiration possibly fit into that title?
“SPEAK”, the book reveals, stands for the five elements that Tunde says we all need in order to live a life of purpose: Surrender, Power, Empathy, Authenticity, and Knowledge.
Tunde’s book covers highlights of her life and her career path up until she joined the Peloton team of instructors. Tunde reflects on her childhood in Houston, Texas as a first-generation American whose parents had immigrated from Nigeria. Tunde reveals that she was self-conscious about her size throughout her youth and traces the road that led her to finally accepting and embracing her physical strength and focusing on wellness.
Tunde points out in her book that “when we surrender to what is, we lean into our power”. While Tunde’s career as a makeup artist and salesperson was initially her dream, she began to want something different, which is how she ended up pushing us in her Peloton cycling classes with her physical strength and her inner and outer beauty, which she enhances with those make up skills she spent so many years perfecting.
Tunde’s memoir includes a raw look at anxious moments, tragedies in her life, including the loss of her father and brother, disappointments, and triumphs, and through it all, a resilience and strength that we all long to have. If you need some inspiration to get through a dark time or to get to the next level that you’ve been striving for, it’s the perfect time for you to read “Speak” and find your voice.
