This Week At Peloton: Kettlebell Conditioning, Punk Rock, and Hikes
This Week At Peloton: Kettlebell Conditioning, Punk Rock, and % Hikes

The schedule is live, the stack is building, and the Leaderboard is waiting. This week brings a distinct shift toward functional power and high-energy endurance. From swinging iron to climbing virtual mountains, the programming for the week of January 12th offers serious variety for members looking to diversify their training.
Here is the breakdown of what is dropping and what shouldn’t be missed.

Class of the Week: Kettlebell Strength & Conditioning with Assal
If there is one class to prioritize this week, it is the new drop from Assal Arian. The community has been asking for more dedicated kettlebell content, and this session promises to deliver technical precision alongside serious burn.
Class Details:
- Class: 30 min Kettlebell Strength & Conditioning
- Instructor: Assal Arian
- Date: Tuesday, January 13th
- Time: On Demand drop at 12:00 AM ET / 5:00 AM GMT
Why This Class Matters
Strength training often gets stuck in a dumbbell rut. Members get comfortable with bicep curls and chest presses. Assal is here to disrupt that comfort zone. Here are three reasons this class deserves a spot in the weekly schedule:
- Technical Mastery: Assal is known for her disciplined approach to form. Kettlebell work requires precise hip hinge mechanics. She breaks down complex movements, ensuring members aren’t just moving weight, but moving it correctly.
- The “Flow” Factor: Unlike standard lifting, kettlebell strength and conditioning often incorporates flow. Transitions between moves are fluid. This keeps the heart rate elevated, turning a strength session into a metabolic conditioning powerhouse.
- Core Integration: You cannot swing a kettlebell without bracing the core. This class will inadvertently torch the abs while focusing on glutes and hamstrings. It is efficient training at its finest.
The Power of the Offset Load
Why bother with a kettlebell? It comes down to physics. A dumbbell’s center of gravity is in the handle. A kettlebell’s center of mass extends beyond the hand.
This offset load forces the body to work harder to stabilize the weight. The stabilizers in the shoulder and the core have to fire constantly to keep the bell controlled.
Key Benefits of Kettlebell Training:
- Explosive Power: Ballistic movements like swings and snatches develop fast-twitch muscle fibers essential for athletic performance.
- Grip Strength: The thicker handle and dynamic nature of the movements significantly improve grip endurance.
- Posterior Chain Focus: The swing pattern targets the hamstrings, glutes, and lower back—areas often neglected by sedentary lifestyles.
Don’t Miss These Drops
While the kettlebell work brings the strength, the rest of the week offers plenty of cardio catharsis. Two classes stand out for their playlist potential and instructor energy.
Pop Punk Row with Katie
For those who row to release aggression, this is the one. Katie Wang brings the angst and the high stroke rates. Pop punk playlists are notorious for driving high output; the fast drum beats match perfectly with a sprinting rhythm. Expect intervals that push the pace and recovery periods that feel far too short.
- Class: 20 min Pop Punk Row
- Instructor: Katie Wang
- Date: Thursday, January 15th
- Time: 6:30 AM ET / 11:30 AM GMT
My Mixtape Ride with Jenn
Jenn Sherman creates rides that feel like hanging out with a friend who has impeccable taste in music. The “My Mixtape” series is a staple for a reason. It is less about metrics and more about the vibe. This 45-minute session is perfect for a Saturday afternoon sweat that feels less like work and more like a jam session.
- Class: 45 min My Mixtape Ride
- Instructor: Jenn Sherman
- Date: Saturday, January 17th
- Time: 2:00 PM ET / 7:00 PM GMT
New % Hike Drop Classes
The Tread community gets a major boost this week. For those who prefer to keep the speed low and the incline high, a fresh batch of Hike classes has arrived.
Peloton has released 4 brand new % Hike classes. These are now available On Demand.
The Lineup:
- Jon Hosking
- Joslyn Thompson Rule
- Kirsten Ferguson
- Mayla Wedekind (German)
Hiking classes are deceptive. They look easy on paper. They are not. By cranking the incline to max, these sessions target the glutes and calves with brutal efficiency without the high impact of running. They are excellent for active recovery days or for building pure lower-body endurance.
Plan The Week
The strategy for this week is balance. Combine the explosive power of Assal’s kettlebell session with the steady-state grind of the new hikes. Throw in Katie’s row for a cardio spike.
The schedule is set. The classes are ready. It is time to clip in, lace up, and get to work.
