Why you loved them!
Sometimes it’s hard to pick just one favorite, but these reviews make it easy! Here’s what the TCO Community had to say about their favorite classes from the last week.
1. Favorite Peloton Warm Up Run
7/21/21 10 min Warm Up Run with Adrian Williams
Listener Valerie Teran Alatorre found running-injury-prevention gold this week. “This is an oldie but I love it!” she said. “It is 7 min of drills and 3 min jog at the end. It’s perfect to prepare for a long run. I haven’t found another class like it.”
Need we say more?! Go bookmark this class, add it to your stack, and take it to prep for your next run (and the next, and the next…)!
2. Favorite Peloton Yoga
12/12/23 20 min Focus Flow: Healthy Back with Kristin McGee
Listener Mindy Jensen (LuvFitness_Food) showed her back a little love this week, and her back loved it so much that the class ended up being Mindy’s favorite!
“My back was definitely feeling the effects of all the running, biking and strength work I had been doing,” she said, “so I was excited to see this new healthy back focus flow drop. Because low back tightness occurs due [to] the tightness of hips and hamstrings, she spent most of the class focusing on those areas. 20 minutes later, I felt the relief I was looking for. I will for sure do this class regularly!”
The playlist for this class is both soothing and powerful, with indie-folk guitar and piano melodies backing ethereal, ambient vocals from artists like Julien Baker and The National.
Kristin takes the class through half splits, lizard, pigeon prep, locust, and firelog poses with cueing aimed at finding mobility in the spine and hips as well as stability in the core. The poses provide hamstring stretching, hip opening, and back and core strengthening. Kristin’s instruction and energy are as compassionate and intuitive as ever, perfect for a class focused on restoring back health.
3. Favorite Peloton Pilates
12/15/23 30 min Pilates with Kristin McGee
Listener Suzanne Fortman was excited to try a Pilates class that harkened back to her reformer days, and it ended up being her favorite pick of the week!
“I miss my reformer Pilates classes,” she said, “and the Dec 15 [class] using a magic circle gave me the heart pumping, burner, low impact I want to incorporate into my weekly plan. More like this please.”
Pro tip: Don’t have a magic circle? No problem! Use a block, yoga wheel, or just bodyweight. I even did the class with a Thighmaster (yes, the actual Thighmaster–I “stole” it at a holiday white elephant gift exchange years ago and have never felt more like a winner)–and besides nearly sending the thing flying through a window a few times (they are quite springy!), it worked great.
The class is 30 minutes of nonstop Pilates action. Kristin incorporates all the usual Pilates standards, but she demonstrates and offers options for how to incorporate the magic circle (or block, or Thighmaster) for greater activation and muscle targeting. The playlist is upbeat with artists like Paramore, Lord, and Alt-J to keep you moving when the burn inevitably sets in!
4. Favorite Peloton Walk
12/17/23 60 min Pop Walk with Jess King
Listener Janice Lind likes a walk, especially if it’s a long one. Add to that the kind of musical education only Jess King can provide, and we’ve got her favorite class of the week!
“Jess chose to play [songs] from 2023 that were from hit makers, but not hits (except for one song),” she said. “It was a great walk for me because 30 minutes isn’t enough, but 60 minutes was perfect.”
The playlist featured less popular tracks from artists such as Dua Lipa, Miley Cyrus, Kelly Clarkson, and Post Malone. And while the class is a walk, it’s not necessarily a walk in the park–Jess programmed almost half the class on hills. With plenty of recovery peppered in plus a little Jess King magic, this class might just be the perfect high-energy, low-impact experience to add to your stack.
5. Favorite Peloton Run
12/17/23 60 min 90s Run with Jeffrey McEachern
When lacing up for a long run, it helps to know you have a little boost in your back pocket. Julie Benson (RunSlayer78) shared a favorite Run that sounds like just that!
“Just took Jeffrey’s 60min 90’s run and it was sooooooooo good!” she said. “He has the incredible ability to make the time fly by with his energy, uplifting stories and his genuine love for the Peloton community. And oh, the music hit perfect!!”
While Jeffrey is one of our German-language instructors, this class is one of his handful taught in English. And Julie is not overstating how much his energy and music selection will carry you through class. The playlist takes me back to blasting top 40 radio on my boombox as a teenager in the 90s. He’s got You Oughta Know by Alanis Morissette, If by Janet Jackson, Wonderwall by Oasis, and What is Love by Haddaway, just to name a few. Pure nostalgia!
The class plan is perfectly manageable for a 60-minute long run. After the warmup, Jeffrey eases you toward a nice, activating 10-minute uphill jog at the halfway mark. The second half is made of two separate builds, each culminating in progressive runs that can be as challenging or approachable as you want them to be.
Thank you!
