Peloton’s Updated Equipment Assembly Fees: What You Need to Know
Peloton has updated their equipment assembly fees structure, giving customers clearer options for equipment delivery and setup. Whether you’re purchasing a new bike, treadmill, or rowing machine, understanding these assembly fees will help you make the right choice for your home fitness setup.
They now offers two distinct service levels: self-assembly and expert assembly. Each option comes with different assembly fees and services, depending on the equipment you choose.
With Peloton’s recent announcements around new equipment on the horizon, old equipment being phased out, and more integration of AI into programming, we wondered… do these new fees have to do with something coming down the pike?
We asked for clarification and Peloton told The Clip Out, “We’re pleased to see such excitement about our product roadmap, but don’t have anything to announce at this time.”
Assembly Fees: Understanding Your Options
Self-Assembly Service
The self-assembly option includes delivery to your room of choice but leaves the setup process to you. This budget-friendly choice works well if you’re comfortable with tools and following detailed instructions—and best of all, for some products, self-assembly comes with no additional cost.
Expert Assembly Service
Expert assembly provides a comprehensive service that includes:
- Delivery to your room of choice
- Full equipment setup
- Packaging removal and disposal
Expert assembly fees apply depending on the equipment, but this hands-off approach ensures your equipment is ready to use immediately after installation.

Key Changes and Requirements with Assembly Fees
The updated structure shows some significant changes in how Peloton handles equipment assembly:
Required Expert Assembly: Several equipment types now mandate expert assembly. The Peloton Bike+ Rental, Peloton Row, Peloton Tread, and Peloton Tread+ all require professional installation, and in these cases, associated costs are automatically included. This requirement likely reflects the complexity of these machines and ensures proper safety setup.
Free Expert Assembly: Peloton Row and Peloton Tread customers receive complimentary expert assembly, meaning no costs are added for these models.
Premium Assembly Fees: The Peloton Tread+ carries the highest assembly fees at $299, reflecting the complexity and size of this premium treadmill model.
Important Terms and Conditions
Before making your selection, keep these crucial details in mind:
Non-Refundable Fees: All expert assembly fees are non-refundable once scheduled. This policy means you should carefully consider your choice before checkout, as you cannot change your mind and receive a refund later.
Terms Apply: Additional terms and conditions govern the assembly fees and services, so review the full service agreement when making your purchase.
Making the Right Choice for Your Situation
Choose Self-Assembly If:
- You’re purchasing a refurbished bike or standard Peloton Bike
- You enjoy DIY projects and have basic tool skills
- You want to save money
- You have flexible timing for equipment setup
Expert Assembly Makes Sense If:
- You prefer professional installation for peace of mind
- You have limited time or physical ability for assembly
- You want immediate equipment readiness
- You value the convenience of packaging removal, even if you are paying for it
Budget Considerations
The assembly fees represent additional costs beyond your equipment purchase. Budget accordingly:
- Standard bikes: Potential $150 expert assembly fees
- Bike+ rentals: Required $150 expert assembly fees
- Row and Tread models: No additional assembly fees
- Tread+: Required $299 expert assembly fees
Remember that these assembly fees are separate from any financing or subscription costs associated with your Peloton equipment.
Final Considerations
Before finalizing your purchase, review the specific requirements—and assembly fees—for your chosen equipment and select the assembly option that best fits your situation. Remember that expert assembly fees are non-refundable, so choose carefully based on your needs, timeline, and comfort level with equipment setup.
The updated assembly fees structure makes it easier to understand exactly what you’re paying for and what services you’ll receive, helping you make an informed decision about your Peloton equipment purchase and installation experience.
