Peloton IQ Insights Reveal Positive Initial Results
Peloton has offered new details on how Peloton IQ Insights are being powered by artificial intelligence to provide members with personalized fitness guidance. In a recent post on its official One Peloton blog, which was also shared via LinkedIn, the company detailed the technology behind its “Insights and Analysis” feature, which aims to turn workout data into actionable recommendations.
The feature is part of the broader Peloton IQ platform and is designed to move beyond simple activity tracking. It analyzes a member’s activities, both on and off the Peloton platform, to identify trends related to performance, recovery, and consistency. This information is then used to generate personalized suggestions that align with the user’s fitness goals. The system is built to provide a more holistic view of a member’s fitness journey by leveraging cutting-edge AI and machine learning.
How Peloton IQ Insights Works
Peloton’s system, referred to as the “Insights Generator Engine,” ingests a wide array of data. This includes metrics from Peloton workouts like distance, output, and heart rate zones, as well as modality-specific data such as cadence for cycling or pace for running. The engine also processes information from third-party sources like Apple Health and Garmin, with member consent.
This data is fed into a Large Language Model (LLM) which generates various types of insights, categorized as Tips, Performance, Suggested Targets, and Your Plan. These insights are not just summaries of past activities; they are forward-looking and designed to guide behavior. For example, an insight might suggest a user increase their weight for a specific strength move or schedule a recovery day with foam rolling to aid muscle repair.
A key part of the system is its ability to suggest concrete actions. For example, if an insight recommends building lower body strength, the LLM can translate this into specific class filters (e.g., modality, instructor, duration). These filters are then used by Peloton’s Class Recommender service to suggest relevant, personalized classes directly to the member. The platform can also suggest modifications to a member’s weekly workout plan or activity targets.

The Role of New Hardware and Data
The functionality of Peloton IQ Insights is enhanced by data from newer hardware like the Bike+, Tread+, and Row+, which feature enhanced cameras and Computer Vision technology. These devices enable strength workout tracking features like Rep Counting and Form Feedback.
This new telemetry data allows the system to provide more specific cross-training guidance. For instance, an insight could leverage rep and weight data to remind a member when it is time to progress by adding more reps or increasing the weight, a concept known as progressive overload.
Peloton IQ Insights Reveal Positive Initial Results
Before the full launch, Peloton conducted A/B tests with a group of field testers over several months. The insights were rated on criteria such as personalization, motivation, and relevance, with a majority of respondents providing positive ratings.
Since the feature went live, Peloton reports that the “Insights and Analysis” feature has been well-received. The “Profile Insights,” which are more in-depth, have seen a 90% positive rating from members. The company also noted a roughly 10% month-over-month increase in profile page views since the feature’s launch, suggesting strong member engagement with the new tool.
By converting raw workout data into actionable advice, Peloton IQ Insights represents a significant step in the company’s mission to offer holistic and personalized fitness guidance that goes beyond just content recommendations.
