In recent months, Peloton has made a series of strategic moves that suggest the company might be preparing to phase out its base-model Bike. Although no official announcements by Peloton have been made, several key decisions and changes in policy point toward a possible end-of-life for their pioneering piece of fitness equipment.

Exclusion from Equipment Rental Program

One of the first indications that Peloton might be distancing itself from the original Bike came with a quiet revamp of its equipment rental program in early August. Initially, the original Bike was the only piece of Peloton hardware available for rental, which later expanded to include both the Bike and Bike+. However, the company has since removed the original Bike from the program, prompting speculation about its future. This shift is particularly notable, as the Bike was the sole product offered when the rental program first launched.

Notably, there was no option to simply upgrade the tablet, further hinting that Peloton is ever-so-gently nudging its user base away from the Original Bike.
