Mastering the Turntables and Treadmills with DJ Katrina Noplos
Ever wondered what it takes to juggle the energy of a nightclub DJ and the discipline of an avid runner? Look no further than DJ Katrina Noplos. In a recent conversation with The Clip Out, Katrina shared her unique story of how she became a DJ and how she integrates her passion for music with her love for Peloton. From spinning tracks at nightclubs to pounding the treadmill, Katrina’s story is both inspiring and captivating.
A Unique Entryway Into Peloton
Katrina’s introduction to Peloton is anything but typical. A seasoned runner subscribing to Runner’s World Magazine, she discovered Peloton through an article in 2017 that featured Robin Arzón as one of the “Cool Runners to Follow on Instagram.” Intrigued by Robin’s style and attitude, Katrina followed her on Instagram long before she had any interest in cycling.
Fast forward to 2019, Katrina tried a tread class on the Peloton app and was instantly hooked. Her running, which had previously been inconsistent, became a daily ritual. “Like clockwork, my consistency snapped into place,” she said, highlighting the impact Peloton had on her fitness routine.
Transitioning from Retail to DJ Booths
Katrina’s venture into DJing began in an unexpected place—working retail at Express. She made mix CDs to play during overnight shifts, earning a reputation for her music curation among coworkers. Her social life soon led her to nightclubs, where she got acquainted with a local DJ. When the DJ fell ill, Katrina eagerly volunteered to fill in, learning the ropes on the job. This hands-on experience allowed her to transition smoothly into the world of professional DJing.
DJing in the Club and on the Tread
Katrina’s skills as a DJ have crossed paths with her Peloton experiences in fascinating ways. She frequently revisits playlists from Peloton classes, integrating them into her sets at nightclubs. For instance, during Pride Month, she borrowed a playlist curated by DJ John Michael for a Peloton class, finding it perfect for her DJ set at a gay bar. “I hearted every single song, downloaded every single one… I’ve got my first hour mapped out.”
Peloton and Beyond
Katrina’s commitment to Peloton extends beyond running. She’s a devoted tread user and has taken strength classes with instructors like Matty Maggiacomo and Adrian Williams. Her Peloton leaderboard name (and name across social media!) is VodKatrina, a playful nod to her DJ persona derived from a friend’s nickname.
Final Thoughts
Katrina’s story is a testament to the powerful intersection of fitness, music, and community. Whether she’s motivating a crowd at a nightclub or pushing herself on the treadmill, Katrina embodies the spirit of dedication and creativity. Her advice to new Peloton users? “Take every instructor, every type of class… You’ll find someone who will consume you into the cult and we’ll all have you drink the Kool-Aid at that point.”
