TCO Top 5 Favorite Peloton classes: Stay motivated with this week’s picks (10/23/23)
The Clip Out community has some of the best class recommendations around, and this week they were all about the longer workouts (plus one short and sweet stretch!). We’re sharing the five most enthusiastic nominations from our community (in no particular order) and a quick review of each class. Read on for our weekly dose of motivation!
This week’s favorite Peloton classes:
- 8/1/23 10 min Foam Rolling with Rebecca Kennedy
- 9/28/23 45 min Power Zone EDM Ride with Olivia Amato
- 10/19/23 60 min Walk + Run with Jess Sims
- 10/21/23 60 min Pop Run with Susie Chan
- 10/21/23 Saturday 60: 2000s Tread Boot Camp with Jess Sims
Why you loved them!
Sometimes it’s hard to pick just one favorite, but these reviews make it easy! Here’s what the TCO Group had to say about their favorite classes from the last week.
1. Favorite Peloton Foam Rolling
8/1/23 10 min Foam Rolling with Rebecca Kennedy
With only five 10-minute full-body foam rolling classes in the library, we’re grateful to have this recommendation from Bea C (BeatrizLovesTV).
“I am attempting to get better at incorporating more foam rolling and/or stretching daily, and this class felt so effective. It’s definitely going to be part of my regular routine!”
This class is a ten-minute full-body foam roll, hitting the upper back and neck, latissimus dorsi (lats), quadriceps, calves, and hamstrings, and then a relaxing chest-opening stretch to end with. The soundtrack is a soothing collection of soft vocals over pulsating ambient dance music with songs from ASTR, Banks, and Big Wild.
Rebecca says this class is good to take before or after any other workout, so add it to your stack for the next time you can take ten minutes to show your body a little extra love.
2. Favorite Peloton Ride
9/28/23 45 min Power Zone EDM Ride with Olivia Amato
Listener Katherine took this class this week and it was so good she had to tell us about it right away. What made it so good for her was that it was a new spin on an Olivia class.
“I’m used to Olivia earning consistently off-the-charts difficulty ratings due to her love of out-of-the-saddle high cadences, but this ride was instead more of a stay-in-the-saddle and grind ride. It was a great change of pace for an Olivia fan who also loves Jess King’s Sweat Steady rides, and of course had a great playlist to boot. If you love power zone, sweat steady, EDM, or questioning life choices–as most Olivia fans do–I highly recommend!”
After a ten-minute warmup, Olivia takes this class through 5 sets of 1 minute in zone 1 plus 2 minutes each in zones 2, 4, and 5. While the Power Zone variety of Power Zone classes typically targets zones 3 to 6, this class only goes up to zone 5. However, five sets of 2 minutes at zone 5 sounds like more than enough work to me.
Olivia currated for this class an energizing mix of dance music including tracks from The Prodigy, Sofi Tukker, and Skrillex and some very dancable EDM remixes of songs by Sam Smith and Thirty Seconds To Mars.
3. Favorite Peloton Walk + Run
10/19/23 60 min Walk + Run with Jess Sims
Jess Sims taught her first ever Walk + Run last week and our listeners absolutely loved it! We received so many nominations for this one.
Cara Grossfeld said, “Hands down Jess Sims’s 60 min walk+run from Thursday 10/19 is the best long class available!”
Karen Smith said, “I did Jess Sims first 60 minute walk +run. It was so good! It wasn’t killer like some of her other classes but still [Jess Sims] hard. Great sweat, and I PR’ed. Highly recommend”
TCO Tipster Trish LaLonde added, “Jess’s 60 Min run/walk from last Thursday. We need more 60 min classes!!!! She was super motivating and having the 60 min format allows you to really settle into the flow of the class.”
Jess alternates the entire class between equal parts uphill walking and flat runing. Her playlist includes When I Grow Up by The Pussycat Dolls, Mo Money Mo Problems by The Notorious B.I.G., Mase, and Puff Daddy, and I Like To Move It by Reel 2 Real–because it wouldn’t be a Jess Sims class without some Jock Jams!
4. Favorite Peloton Run
10/21/23 60 min Pop Run with Susie Chan
Rebecca Allen (BecsDDS) found her favorite class of the week in a nice long run with none other than the Queen of Long Runs, Susie Chan.
“My favorite peloton (cardio) class was Susie Chan’s 60 min pop run from 10/21/23. She has the most amazing ability to make a longer class just fly by. And she doesn’t do it by telling a million stories or jokes. It’s her super power! But the class had an amazing playlist and the class members were so enthusiastic! And Mariana was in the class too!”
Susie selected the perfect playlist to pass the time on a 60-minute run, including A Sky Full of Stars by Coldplay, Wow by Kylie Minogue, Ain’t Nobody by Hard Lights and Chaka Khan, and a Skrillex remix of Bruno Mars’ Just the Way You Are. The roadmap follows 4 blocks of approximately 12-minute runs with a quick walk break between each.
5. Favorite Peloton Unstackable Boot Camp
10/21/23 Saturday 60: 2000s Tread Boot Camp with Jess Sims
Sometimes we want a class that leaves us in a puddle and washes all hope of a stack of extra classes away with it. We call those classes Unstackable, and we love hearing about our listeners’ Unstackable experiences.
For this week’s “Unstackable” recommendation, we heard from Tiffany Kautz (TiffyDontQuit).
“Jess Sims most recent Saturday 60–this was a music based class so not as hard as her advanced versions…but still just hard enough that I would never dream of stacking it! I usually start my Monday mornings with one of these, a great way to start the week, and there’s usually a whole bunch of people taking the most recent one at the same time with lots of high fives!”
The class playlist is so good I had to stop myself from including every single song on it here. I may be biased, but even if your first college road trip was not set to Justin Timberlake’s FutureSex/LoveSounds album, this playlist is sure to keep you rocking all class long. It includes 2000s hits from Lady Gaga, Kelly Clarkson, The Black Eyed Peas, Jennifer Lopez, Destiny’s Child, and–wait for it–Danity Kane (of MTV’s Making The Band fame!), to name a few.
Following a quick 5-minute warmup, the class alternates between running and strength three times. The first strength block includes cleans, curtsy lunges, dumbbell pass-throughs, plank bird dogs, and skull crushers. The second strength block covers lateral raises, tall kneeling step-through lunges, bicep curls, and marching farmer carries. The third and final strength block is made up of a bent-over row EMOM (every minute on the minute), snatches, and a high plank.
Jess does not shy away from the work in this class, and she doesn’t want you to either. If you venture to take it, please let us know how it goes!
Thank you!
