Transgender Day of Visibility
Peloton is marking Transgender Day of Visibility on March 31 with its annual class series, featuring live classes and on-demand options across the platform’s instructor roster. The lineup puts a focus on instructors who use their platforms to visibly support LGBTQ+ community and allyship.

The History of Transgender Day of Visibility

Every year on March 31, Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) is observed around the world. It’s a day dedicated to celebrating transgender people and raising awareness of the discrimination they continue to face. But the holiday is younger than many people realize, and it began with one woman who simply got tired of waiting.

Rachel Crandall-Crocker had been wanting a special day for the trans community for a long time, but kept waiting for someone else to create it. Finally, in 2009, she decided to act. She founded TDOV in reaction to the lack of LGBTQ+ recognition for the successes of trans people, as well as the frustration that the only well-known transgender-centered observance was the Transgender Day of Remembrance. It’s a solemn occasion, not a celebratory one.

She chose March 31 because she wanted distance from both Transgender Day of Remembrance in November and Pride Month in June. The date itself wasn’t symbolically loaded — it was practical. And it worked.

Classes Scheduled for Transgender Day of Visibility

Erik Jäger and Robin Arzon are both leading live rides at 12 noon ET – Erik’s is in German for 20 minutes and Robin’s is in English for 30 minutes. Matty Maggiacomo is providing an on-demand 20 minute run, allowing members across time zones and schedules to participate. The multiple classes across disciplines give members choices based on their preferred workout type and availability.
Erik and Matty have been notably consistent in their visible allyship (Erik) and representation (Matty) for the LGBTQ+ community, not just during Pride Month but throughout the year. Their willingness to center this work in their teaching and public presence sets a tone for the platform.
Robin continues her pattern of showing up for community-centered programming. Her presence in Pride programming reinforces that this is not a marginal celebration on Peloton but one that commands resources and instructor commitment.

Accessing the Classes

Live classes on March 31 will air at specific times (verify exact times in the Peloton app). On-demand options from Matty and others allow members who cannot make live classes to participate asynchronously. Members can add the classes to their schedule in advance to ensure they do not miss participation.
The March 31 Trans Day of Visibility classes arrive at the tail end of Women’s History Month, which Peloton has programmed throughout March with themed rides, runs, and community events. The transition from Women’s History Month into Trans Day of Visibility programming signals a platform-wide commitment to celebrating and centering diverse identities in fitness.

My daily therapy is provided by Peloton and I truly believe that movement is medicine. I don't discriminate - bike, tread, yoga, strength, pilates and a ton of meditation. By day, I am a psychotherapist and director of a large counseling center in NJ. I am particularly passionate about women's mental health, especially in midlife. By night, I am a mom to 2 dachshunds and a scruffy mutt and wife to a chiropractor that keeps us all moving (yes, that includes the dogs!). Besides Peloton, I am obsessed with hard rock (think Octane on Sirius), Law and Order everything and a good thriller. Find me on the Peloton leaderboard at #JustAskForHelp.
