Major Waffle Recall Includes Kodiak Brand Due to Listeria Concerns

Frozen Waffle Recall Expands Nationwide

No, it’s not a Peloton recall, but it is a recall that likely affects a lot of Peloton members.  In a significant recall impacting frozen breakfast lovers (and protein hackers!) across the U.S., Treehouse Foods has issued a voluntary recall affecting several waffle brands, including Kodiak, which have been pulled from grocery store shelves due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The recall, initiated after routine testing revealed the bacteria in specific lots, poses serious health risks, especially for vulnerable populations like pregnant women, infants, and the elderly.

Kodiak Waffle Recall

Kodiak waffles, a popular breakfast choice due to their high protein content, are among the brands most impacted. Consumers who have recently purchased dark chocolate, chocolate chip and/or buttermilk & vanilla flavors of Kodiak waffles are urged to check their freezers and discard or return any affected products.  Consumers can find a list of affected UPC codes on the FDA recall website. Treehouse Foods is actively working with health authorities to ensure the safety of its products moving forward.

The Risks of Listeria

Listeria monocytogenes can lead to serious infections, particularly for vulnerable populations such as pregnant women, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. While healthy individuals may experience mild symptoms, the bacteria can cause severe illness, including complications like miscarriage or stillbirth for pregnant women. As a result, the recall is being handled with extreme caution.

How Consumers Should Respond

If you have purchased Kodiak waffles recently, check the UPC number and packaging to see if your product is included in the recall. Kodiak and other companies have provided details on their websites about how to identify the affected waffles. Consumers should either return the products for a refund or safely discard them to avoid the risk of infection.
