Ash Pryor Spotlights Black Country Music in 2026 BHM Row
Peloton Highlights Black Country Music in New Ash Pryor Row
Ash Pryor’s recent 30-minute session brings Black Country music to the forefront of Peloton’s rowing content for Black History Month. Released on February 15, 2026, the 30 min BHM: Country Row represents a specific curation effort within the platform’s music programming. While country music is a staple of the Peloton library, this class marks the first instance of a playlist dedicated exclusively to the subgenre of Black artists within the country music space.
The Historical Roots of Black Country Music
In addition to providing a stellar soundtrack, this class serves as an acknowledgment of the historical foundations of the musical genre. Ash notes in an IG post that Black Country history is intrinsic to the genre’s existence. The banjo, she points out, besides being an instrument synonymous with country music, is a descendant of West African lutes.

Historical records indicate that the structure of modern country music draws heavily from slave spirituals, field songs, and religious hymnals. Black songwriters often penned tracks that were later reformulated and performed by white artists, obscuring the music’s origins. This class attempts to correct that narrative by “sitting at the table we helped build,” as Pryor described, and centering the artists who are reclaiming that legacy today.

A Curated Playlist of Modern Voices
The playlist for this session moves beyond the few names that typically dominate mainstream country radio. While established stars like Darius Rucker and Beyoncé appear, the tracklist highlights a broader spectrum of Black Country talent.
Participants rowing in this session will hear tracks from artists such as Amythyst Kiah, Willie Jones, and Mickey Guyton (who was featured in a 2021 Artist Series). The selection also includes newer voices like Tanner Adell, Tiera Kennedy, and Shaboozey. By aggregating these artists into a single cohesive experience, the class provides a platform for the subgenre that often lacks visibility on major streaming curators.

Contextualizing the Programming
This focus on Black Country music follows Peloton’s previous engagement with the genre through the Cowboy Carter Artist Series. Following the release of Beyoncé’s Americana-themed album, the platform launched a series of classes that explored the intersection of pop culture and country roots.
That series set a precedent for examining country music through a different cultural lens. Ash Pryor’s current BHM row continues that thread but narrows the focus specifically to the history and current state of Black artists in the genre. It suggests a programming strategy that looks deeper into musical subgenres rather than relying solely on broad categories.

Western Style on the Leaderboard
Visual presentation plays a role in the theming of these special event classes. For this session, Pryor wore a custom look designed by Brittany Allen, a frequent collaborator with Peloton instructors for high-profile classes. The outfit leaned into the Black Country aesthetic, merging Western motifs with athletic functionality.
The ensemble featured a white and blue top with red accents, detailed with metallic star fabric. A collar and studded embellishments provided a nod to classic Western wear, while the construction remained suitable for the high-intensity movement of a rowing class. Allen, known for her intricate custom work, previously designed this “Cowgirl Chic” look for Pryor during the Cowboy Carter series, establishing a visual continuity between these thematically linked innovative classes. By combining historical education, curated music discovery, and intentional design, the class offers a comprehensive look at a vital, often overlooked segment of music history.
Ash suggests taking this class on any modality. Will you be tuning in for this important music lesson?
