The 2024 Great World Race: A Global Marathon Adventure with Becs Gentry
Imagine running seven marathons on seven continents in just seven days. That’s the incredible challenge of The 2024 Great World Race. This unique event attracts endurance athletes from around the globe, and among them is the dynamic Becs Gentry, a Peloton Tread instructor known for her vibrant energy and impressive running credentials.
A Little Becs Gentry Background
Before diving into the logistics of this awe-inspiring race, let’s get to know Becs a little better. You already know she’s an amazing Peloton instructor who inspires the community daily. Here are some other details you might NOT know. Hailing from the UK, Becs Gentry has made a name for herself in the running community as a formidable marathoner. In 2019, she claimed first place in the New York City Marathon for non-elite women, finishing in 2:37:01—that feat led her to be invited to participate in the Olympic Marathon Trials for Team Great Britain – where she finished 4th and a new personal record of 2:32:01.
What is The Great World Race?
The Great World Race is an extraordinary event where participants tackle seven marathon-distance races across seven continents within one week. It’s not just a race; it’s a logistical marvel. Competitors are whisked away on a whirlwind tour of the globe, starting in the icy expanse of Antarctica and finishing in the warmth of Miami, USA.
Runners begin their journey in Cape Town, South Africa, where they board a private jet to Antarctica for the first marathon. Adding a touch of rock and roll history in 2024, the plane used for this global adventure is none other than the old Rolling Stones touring plane. From there, it’s a series of business charter flights to each subsequent race location: Cape Town, Perth, Istanbul (both in Asia and Europe), Cartagena, and finally Miami.

The Logistics Behind the Race
Organizing such a globe-spanning event is no small feat. The race is limited to 60 participants, ensuring each runner receives the necessary support and resources. The entry fee for this once-in-a-lifetime experience is $52,257.15, covering all flights, accommodations, meals, and logistics, including the exclusive flight to Antarctica. This price is quite competitive, considering a trip to Antarctica alone can cost upwards of $21,114.00.
Each marathon is officially measured and sanctioned, providing a legitimate racing experience on every continent. Participants are treated to professional race support, including medical assistance and aid stations, ensuring safety and comfort across diverse terrains and climates.
The Peloton Community Running Along-Side Becs
While Becs has been globe-trotting around the world, the Peloton Community has been doing our best to support her from afar. Every time I’m on the Twitch Stream, there are hundreds of Becs Beasts present, and several Peloton instructors. During the Antartica race alone, I saw: Mariana , Jeffrey, Logan, Robin, Tunde, Camila and Ally. I’m probably forgetting a few – the chat was lit! I am honestly not sure anyone got any work done the first half of the day Monday. This whole process has been exhausting to keep up with and I’m here at home!
Becs Beasts has also been taking turns with groups of individuals taking turns to run on their tread or outdoors at the same time as Becs is running her races – because they felt she should never be running alone. Becs felt that love every time she read the chat at the end of a race. You could see it when she looked at the screen and her eyes filled with tears.
A huge group of Becs Beasts also traveled to Miami to cheer Becs on and welcome her back home to America. Several Peloton instructors were also there to cheer her on! Becs crossed the final finish line in Miami hand in hand with Hilary. Hilary placed first overall and Becs placed 2nd overall for all seven races.
And really, that’s the magic of Peloton – the community. It always has been. We will travel thousands of miles to cheer on an instructor and hug a friend you had only met online. And then you are reminded, you are never alone. Welcome Back, Becs! Congratulations to you on a truly amazing feat!
