A Peloton Instructor for Every Mood: 14 Great Suggestions to Get You Moving
Find the Perfect Peloton Instructor for Every Mood
May is Mental Health Awareness (MHA) month and Peloton never disappoints in terms of providing related content throughout the month in just about every class type on the platform. Peloton really does offer an instructor for every mood. Keep your eye on the schedule for offerings in May on the Bike, Tread, Row and mat. In fact, Ally Love is first up with a 30 minute live MHA ride on May 4 .
Here at The Clip Out we know that you may need a class to match your mood at any time of the year. How about some instructor suggestions that might help you improve your emotional state, tackle your thinking or increase motivation? You may decide to try someone new or even adopt a new mantra.
Mood: Need inspiration?
Choose Jess Sims
Jess Sims emphasizes the importance of perspective in her workouts. One of her famous quotes is, “You don’t have to, you get to.” This reminds members that exercise is a privilege, not a chore and something to be grateful for. With well timed questions like, “Why not me? Why not now?” and mantras like “You’re allowed to be a work in progress and a masterpiece at the same damn time”, she provides just the inspiration you might need to believe in yourself again or to appreciate the ability to move.
Need some motivation?
Choose Tunde Oyeneyin
Tunde Oyeneyin focuses on the power of the mind in her motivational speeches. She often says, “Your mind is your strongest muscle,” reminding us that mental strength is crucial for physical achievements and that sometimes our thinking gets in the way and can be our biggest enemy. Members love her mantra, “The pain you feel today shows itself as strength tomorrow”. Isn’t that a great commentary on life? Turn tough things into growth. If anyone can get you back in the game, it’s Tunde.
Feeling down on yourself?
Choose Christine D’Ercole
Christine starts most classes with, “Drop your shoulders, drop your baggage” in an effort to leave all the negative stuff behind while you are spending time with her. She is known for her mantra of “I am, I can, I will, I do” and encourages that members adopt that mindset to any difficult road ahead, whether that be a ride or something in real life. She often encourages us to ask ourselves, “But what if I can”? If you are having a rough day and jump into one of her classes you might also hear, “It doesn’t matter where you are on the leaderboard, it matters that you are ON the leaderboard”. When new members are starting out or seasoned veterans are recovering from injury or just having an off day, this might be exactly the message you need. Beating yourself up? Head for a CDE ride.
Need a hug?
Choose Emma Lovewell
Whether you are on the bike or in a core, cardio dance or pilates class with Emma, she embraces you like a warm blanket. Her calm manner during difficult workouts pulls you through and helps you imagine that you will get through to the other side. She often says, “You can’t hate yourself into change, so love yourself into greatness” and “progress, not perfection”. Her gentle encouragement and mellow vibe might be just the ray of sunshine you need when feeling a bit sad or disappointed.
Need your butt kicked into gear?
Choose Alex Toussaint
Alex Toussaint is known for his no-excuses approach to fitness and will kick your butt as he throws a ton of positivity at you. His motto, “Less excuses, more adjustments,” provides inspiration to adapt and overcome challenges rather than throwing in the towel. He also encourages members to “Allow yourself the opportunity to get uncomfortable”, encouraging growth and resilience, which are essential to get through your workout and your day. We can’t forget, “Activate your gratitude to cancel out your attitude”. That packs a serious punch every time I hear it. You will feel proud of your efforts when you leave an AT class.
Need to overcome something?
Choose Robin Arzón
Robin Arzón’s motivational quotes are all about perseverance and resilience. She says, “You’ve survived 100 percent of your worst days,” reminding us of our strength and ability to overcome obstacles. This quote can be particularly uplifting for those in some sort of personal battle – it reinforces individual capability and capacity to endure and thrive. She reminds us that we “did not wake up to be mediocre” and put our crowns back on. You will leave her strength class or jump off the bike with a renewed sense of agency and a belief that you can power through whatever is in your way.
Need to find more flexibility?
Choose Denis Morton
Denis Morton is known for his quiet and encouraging demeanor on the bike or the mat. He often says, “If you think you can’t, change your mind”. It is such a simple statement that packs a punch to remind us that we can adjust our thinking and overcome self-doubt. His approach emphasizes the power of positive thinking and mental flexibility. Some of the fan favorite Denis-isms include, “If you can’t get out of it, get into it” or “If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you”. These kinds of statements allow us to meet our tough times head on and use the power of choice to approach them differently.
Need an uplift?
Choose Adrian Williams
Adrian Williams says, “Fun first, fitness second”. You are guaranteed a smile or two in one of his classes. He jokes around and tells stories with a jovial spirit, all while he tries to gently kill you. He reminds us that “The hardest part is over – you showed up,” and that taking the first step is often the most challenging part of any journey. He often acknowledges the effort and commitment required to have a workout schedule in your life. Adrian also talks about emotion – about his own pain, tough times and getting to the other side. He reminds us that if we need to take an emotional lap, we should take that emotional lap. Although you may know him for his difficult classes like Thunder 45, he provides some of his most deep and emotional inspiration during his long stretching classes.
Need a distraction?
Choose Cody Rigsby
Want to forget about the real world for a minute? Because really – it’s not that deep, boo. Cody Rigsby is known for his fun and entertaining classes that comment on pop culture and provide his opinions on just about everything. His classes tend to entertain and time flies by. He coaches us to get our lives together, fix our wigs and be like the sizzling fajita (not the chips and salsa). A Cody class always delivers on escapism and frivolity, provides a laugh or two and lightens any mood.
Feeling happy and want a party?
Choose Camila Ramon
Camilla brings the hype vibe to every class she teaches, choosing energetic music paired with positive reminders that the perfect body is the one we have and to “wear the dang shorts”. She believes that music and movement can heal so much. She reminds us to be the “perra responsable” and to get it done without “cucaracha energy” or any kind of toxic negativity. Whether you are in a good mood or desperately need one, Camila will have you dancing out of class and remind you to keep shining in the world.
Need a good laugh?
Choose Bradley Rose
Recently an instagram page was created to capture all of Bradley’s “isms”. Throughout class he throws out all kinds of ridiculous and hilarious things (dad jokes anyone?), laughing at himself as he goes. Somehow he also manages to be motivational and inspirational. He often cites his experience as a stroke survivor and how that changed him and his coaching and his appreciation for every day. You have to “fail forward” and keep getting up. He encourages us to fall in love with the process and the results will come.
Feeling stuck?
Choose Becs Gentry
Becs has done incredible things like “The Great World Race” and has pushed herself through all kinds of difficult terrains. It is not surprising then that she provides some of the best commentaries to get UNstuck. She reminds runners often that forward is a pace, regardless of speed. Becs encourages running into your “unknown” – she talks about how the journey on the road or tread is symbolic of life. You have to drive yourself on to overcome obstacles. If you just need to get moving or get out of your own way, she is your girl.
Having self-doubt?
Choose Rad Lopez
Rad has quickly become a favorite on the Peloton platform for strength classes and his new bike bootcamps. His smile is infectious and his encouragement is warm and authentic. He reminds us to be proud and to believe in ourselves. You might just need to hear that commentary one day in order to erase the self-doubt narrative that is sneaking in. Out in the real world, he embraces leading with love and leading with gratitude. He works to be a model that he didn’t feel he had growing up. If you are questioning your abilities or your achievements, Rad will have you standing just a little taller after your workout with him.
Feeling scared?
Choose Chelsea Jackson Roberts
Our Peloton yoga instructors tend to be some of the most gentle, kind and mindful instructors on the platform, often narrating meditations as well. Chelsea comments often on the crippling effect of fear in our lives and to “trust that you are doing it right.” She has us repeat, “I am courageous because I am here.” On tough days, sometimes the best we can do is show up to the mat for a 10 minute yoga class – but we can view that as courage and strength instead of a cop-out. In life, Chelsea encourages doing what is right, not what is easy. If anxiety is getting in your way, then maybe a yoga class or mediation with Chelsea is just what you need to breathe a little easier.
