Peloton Discontinues Heart Rate Armband
The Decision to Discontinue
Peloton has taken a step back from the wearables market and, earlier today, confirmed to The Clip Out that it has decided to discontinue its Heart Rate Armband, effective immediately. No reason for the decision was given, however, given the difficulty it had securing a foothold in the wearables market, and with several fitness wearable now compatible with Peloton equipment, the decision to stop production on the product is not a surprising one.
Challenges in Cracking the Wearables Market
Released in 2022, the Peloton Heart Rate Armband was meant to be worn on the forearm, unlike Peloton’s heart rate chest strap, and came with bluetooth and optical heart rate sensors. Priced at $90, the gadget was intended to serve as an accessory that seamlessly integrated with Peloton’s universe of fitness equipment. Unfortunately, it failed to capture a substantial share of the already crowded wearables market and frustrated users were frequently seen complaining about it glitches in the Official Peloton Member Page group on Facebook.
Members who are looking to have a Peloton-branded product that fits into the ecosphere of Peloton equipment are still able to purchase the Peloton Heart Rate Chest Strap, priced at $34 USD, on the company’s website.
