How to Rent a Peloton Bike
Want to experience Peloton without the full commitment? Renting might be your answer. Here’s everything you need to know about the Peloton rental program, from costs to cancellations and changes from previous iterations.
If you’ve been tempted to bring the Peloton magic into your home without splurging on an upfront purchase, you’re not alone. Peloton’s rental program might just be the perfect solution. This program allows you to rent the Bike+, with its popular swivel screen that enables seamless switching from Cycling to Strength or Yoga classes, and lets you boost your Bootcamp potential. Renting the Bike+ helps you enjoy live and on-demand classes without taking the full leap into ownership. Keep reading to learn all about the Peloton rental process, pricing, buyout options, and more.
How to Rent a Peloton
Renting a Peloton is straightforward. Simply visit the Peloton Rental Program page on their website, select “Rent Now,” and check whether the service is available in your area (currently, the Rental Program is only available in the continental U.S. and Canada, and some remote areas are not available or may have an extra surcharge). You’ll then place your order, set up an account, and schedule delivery. Once the bike arrives, you’ll just need to set it up and start pedaling.
Note, previous Rental Programs allowed users to choose between the Bike and Bike+ but currently only the Bike+ is available. In fact, this is the only piece of equipment in the program, as the Tread and Row are not included as options.
What Does Renting a Peloton Cost?
As of now, here’s what the pricing looks like (including the required membership):
- Peloton Bike+: $119 per month
The monthly fee covers both the equipment and the All-Access Membership (typically $44 if purchased separately, required to access the platform’s classes and features). There’s also a refundable $150 deposit required at the start.
The monthly fee also includes Peloton cycling shoes. You can add on additional options at Check Out if you like.
How Long Can You Rent a Peloton?
The Peloton rental program operates on a flexible month-to-month basis. There’s no long-term commitment, so you can rent the bike for as long as you like. Whether you want to rent for one month or several, it’s entirely up to you.
Pros and Cons of Peloton Rental
Like any service, the Peloton rental program has its advantages and drawbacks.
Pros
- Low Commitment: Try the bike and Peloton experience without committing to a full purchase.
- Affordable Access: The rental fee bundles the bike and membership at one price, and includes cycling shoes.
- Flexibility: Cancel anytime without penalties. Unlike the Home Trial Program, which requires financing, the Rental Program is a straightforward monthly payment.
Cons
- Costs Add Up: Over time, rental costs may exceed purchasing outright.
- No Ownership Benefits: Renting doesn’t give you the same long-term value as buying.
- Availability Can Be Limited: The rental program isn’t offered in all areas (currently it’s only offered in the continental U.S. and Canada).
Are There Buyout Options?
Yes! Peloton offers a buyout option if you decide you love the bike and want to keep it. Once you’ve rented for at least 12 months, Peloton allows you to purchase the bike at a reduced price based on how long you’ve been renting. This can be an excellent way to transition from renting to owning.
What to Know About Cancellations and Returns
If you decide Peloton rental isn’t for you, no worries. You can cancel your rental anytime via your online account or by contacting Peloton’s support team. Peloton will arrange to pick up the equipment at no extra cost. However, keep in mind that partial months aren’t refunded; your subscription will run until the end of the current billing cycle. You are also not refunded for the initial delivery fees.
Delivery and Setup
Once you place your rental order, delivery is usually fast. Peloton’s delivery team will bring the bike to your home, set it up in your desired spot, and ensure it’s ready to ride. The setup service is included in the rental fee, so you won’t need to worry about handling the equipment yourself.
Is the Peloton Rental Program Right For You?
If you’re curious about the Peloton experience but hesitant to make a full investment upfront, a Peloton rental can be a great way to dip your toes into the water. With flexible terms, professional delivery, and all-in-one pricing, it’s designed for those who want to test the waters before fully committing.
With countless on-demand classes, community features, and immersive training programs, you might just decide it’s worth making a permanent addition to your home (good thing there’s that buyout option).
