crystal: welcome to the Clip Out podcast, episode 4 55. This is Crystal O’Keefe,

tom: and this is Tom O’Keefe. So, how the storms treating you?

crystal: Listen, I did not ever think about the fact that we would have three different locations to worry about in the Midwest at one time. Yeah. With Brian in Oklahoma, Sydney and Kansas City, and of course us at home.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: So at different [00:01:00] points yesterday, last night specifically, it was tornado warning in Oklahoma near Brian tornado warning in Kansas City near Sydney.

Tornado warning at your house. Hope you don’t die.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: Ah, the Midwest in the spring and we’re just getting started.

tom: Yeah. Not even technically spring yet.

crystal: It’s not, and not only is it not technically spring yet, but uh, you know. In Missouri, the weather changes so quickly. So there’s these like calendars, these memes that people will post.

And this is, this is the second fall, spring, yeah. After this one we’ll have one more cold snap and then it will really be spring

tom: most likely. Yeah. It is very common here to have your heat and air conditioning on in the same day.

crystal: Yeah. Like legit. It was 80, do 80 degrees yesterday, and tonight the low is 37.

Yeah.

tom: Ah,

crystal: that’s Missouri.

tom: Yes. Yes it is. But there are so much better things to complain about Missouri for. So, but we won’t do all [00:02:00] that to you.

crystal: Nah,

tom: that’s saves a bonus. Bonus. What, uh, what Pray tell do you have in store for people this week?

crystal: Uh, we have a whole lot of stories is what we have. Um, we’re gonna talk about the latest on Peloton and Garmin.

We are gonna talk about the latest for Club Peloton. We are gonna talk about the latest at, uh, south, south by Southwest. What’s going on there. Uh, we also have, um, the brand new changes that Peloton has been making to the interface. And we will talk about reactions to that as well. Uh, I gave a review for the Train Well Partnership, which is the personal training and um, I’ve got lots to say about that.

tom: Yes.

crystal: Um. Faces of fitness in Chicago. Peloton instructors are gonna be there. And, uh, Peloton is also teaming up with in tandem for a special blind or blind slash visually impaired ride. Uh, there’s also going to be Peloton and pre-core at the [00:03:00] 2026 HFA show not to mention tons of instructor news.

Uh, and of course we have some other things like the latest artist series and the latest celebrity sighting. We have other connected fitness news in short, it is a packed episode. Oh, I didn’t even mention the content.

tom: Okay, well, let’s, uh, let’s just blow through the shameless plugs. Don’t forget, we’re available on Apple Podcast, Spotify, iHeart.

crystal: Wow. Uh,

tom: pre-core has, uh, released a slat tread. Yes. We’ll talk about [00:04:00] that. And, uh, Ash Pryor had an interesting personal update that and more all over on the bonus.

Also don’t forget you can watch all of these over at YouTube and sign up for the newsletter with all the links and [email protected]. So there’s all that. Let’s stick in. Shall we?

crystal: We shall

tom: At long last Garmin users National Nightmare is over closing the saddest chapter and the history of Garmin.

crystal: Yes. I mean, that’s dramatic, but, but, uh, it is upsetting to people who are unable to get their data to sync. And it finally sinks both ways.

tom: And I’m sure it is. I’m being facetious. I know, but I, if you have a fancy Garmin watch and you like Peloton, it has to be maddening that these two top tier tech pieces cannot communicate, not unlike political leaders in the world today.

crystal: You have to have a [00:05:00] third party.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: Also not unlike

tom: Yeah.

crystal: Global leaders today. But, um, it’s interesting that, um, it does sink both ways now. It synced before, but it only synced one way. Now it’s, it’s a reciprocal sink.

tom: Okay.

crystal: Next problem. Now everybody has duplicate entries. So now they have a Peloton workout and a Garmin workout.

Cue the outrage. Think of,

think

tom: of all the extra calories you’re burning.

crystal: I wish that it worked that way. You’re like, it’d be

tom: interesting. Like I’d have nine garments.

crystal: The interesting thing is that it doesn’t happen in all configurations. So some people that start the workout on their Peloton or their Garmin are not seeing the double entries.

Some people are, I think this is just gonna take a little bit to kind of figure out like what settings are going to dedupe. Or maybe the companies are gonna have to write another level of code, right? I don’t know. Maybe you need to go in and only write it one way, not the other way. But it’ll get worked through.

Yeah. But in the meantime, [00:06:00] most people are happy to see it and some people are like, okay, well now you have a problem.

tom: So give ’em a minute.

crystal: Yeah, just

tom: a minute. It’ll get there.

crystal: Exactly.

tom: It’ll get there.

So Club Peloton has issued some, uh, level updates and some clarifications on the who’s it’s and the what nows.

crystal: Yeah.

The biggest thing really here is that they, it is a clarification. And the thing is, is that it’s spelling out what your discounts are when you get them. Uh, it’s spelling out what the rewards are, so it it goes through and it says, okay, if you reach a milestone, for example, if you, if you hit your 10th ride, you get 10 points.

That’s a good example. Okay. So if you hit your 300th ride, you get 300 points. In addition to that, you also get a 10% boost in a second activity and a 20% boost for milestones and three or more activities. So. If you’re only doing cycling, you get 50 points for 50 rides. But if you do strength classes too, you get [00:07:00] 55 points for 50 strength workout.

If you do yoga, you get 60 points for your 50 yoga workout. So it’s always been like that, but they’re spelling it out Right, very clearly. Also it talks about that if you are in a Peloton program or a personalized plan or a challenge, you get two weeks of ev two points per every week of program that you complete.

Also, if you do a challenge, any of the Peloton challenges, you get 10 points per challenge. I think that, again, the biggest thing here is that they are spelling it out.

tom: Right.

crystal: It’s been a little bit confusing for people. And

tom: mysterious.

crystal: Yeah, a little bit. Yeah. And I think that there’s also people that are really agitated because they don’t understand what they need to.

Improve their level.

tom: They feel like they do a lot. Yeah. And why aren’t they? Yeah.

crystal: I’m one of those people and I, and I still think that there should be some length of time built into this because there was so much time that I [00:08:00] couldn’t log other activities because they didn’t have the capabilities. Yeah.

And so it just, I feel like it is used against me from that perspective. Yeah. And it’s a little frustrating, but at the same time you know, a person, it’s, what’s frustrating is if you do an hour long run, let’s just say that’s however many points for your run, basically 1.2, I guess two points. But then if you take that same hour of workout mm-hmm.

And you do. A warmup in another activity. Let’s say you do a warmup walk and then you do a cool down, but you do a cool down hike. And then in addition to all of that, you do some strength in the middle of your workout. Well, now you’ve added points to four different modalities. Yeah. And you only get for that day to points.

Right. But you’re adding to each strength workout you did, you’re adding to each walk that you did, you’re adding to each, uh, hike that you did. So that’s making those go up at the same time as well.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: So, um, that’s the [00:09:00] game that you have to play if that’s important to you. If Yeah.

tom: If you value it

crystal: at the same time you’re getting a discount off of your apparel.

That’s the biggest reward here. Yeah. So I don’t know how much people really want to spend their time

tom: Yeah. ’cause

crystal: stressing over it.

tom: Right. Unless you buy lots of stuff, is it really worth the headache?

crystal: Exactly.

tom: Ultimately, other than just bragging rights.

crystal: Right. And I, and most people don’t brag about it. And in fact, the other thing is people get very frustrated with the exclusivity that comes from the special rides. Like if you’re a gold, you only get to ride on the gold ride. And if you’re a legend, you only get to ride on the legend ride and only the legends can ride. And, and you can only do that. But they’re trying to give it like an exclusivity for like, you get an extra perk.

tom: Right.

crystal: But people get, I mean, honestly, it wouldn’t matter what Peloton. Did somebody be mad about it? Absolutely. So I, I don’t know. Like, yes, it’s not my favorite. Like the way that they put it together doesn’t favor me. So it’s not my favorite thing that [00:10:00] Peloton has ever done. But it’s also not like, I’m so mad.

Right. And there are people that are legit mad. Yesterday I posted something about, I think it was this article on the OPP and somebody just said, this is dumb. That was their, their big answer. That was their big, their big thing.

tom: Rebecca Kennedy is leading a 5K at South by Southwest.

crystal: Yes, it is. Rebecca is going to be leading a 5K at Southwest. Southwest. And you might remember from last week we talked about Robin was going to be there and she was going to be doing a live episode of her brand new podcast, project Swagger.

tom: Yes.

crystal: Well, there’s also going to be a Peloton specific. Thing happening at Southwest. Southwest and Rebecca and Robin will both be there. There will be several different sessions. We have an article all about it that spells it all out. All the different things that you can do while you’re there. Yes. You still need to get a ticket for Southwest.

Southwest. Yeah. Uh, you can’t just walk in, which a lot of people have been asking and are frustrated about [00:11:00] also, I know that there are people that are hearing this that are like, Ooh, I wanna go. It’s gone. Like it was gone in seconds. Like they’re, they’re just, they’re very limited on the number of tickets.

Yeah. And so, I would still keep checking though, because you never know when people might return ’em or they might open up more seating. Yeah. And things like that. I would definitely keep checking.

tom: Class plans for floor based classes are now visible, but it’s caused. Some other issues

crystal: it has

tom: for the people.

crystal: Okay, so class plans. Let’s talk about what that means. If you’re doing a strength program or a strength class, it shows you like, next you have bicep curls for two minutes, or next you’re going to, I don’t know, do a lumberjack squat or something like that for a minute. It’s giving you what’s coming up next.

That’s the whole idea of a class plan. Now, some of the modalities show that even when it’s not a strength class, for example, on the row, you can see your class plan. You know, you [00:12:00] have moderate coming up, you know, you have really hard coming up.

tom: Okay.

crystal: It, we don’t appear to see that like just on a straight up run or just on a straight up walk.

It varies. It varies. I don’t know if that’s coming. Like it’s rolling out slowly. Every new class floated. You’re getting a little bit of a different thing, but where you have these class plans, they are now showing up in the upper left hand corner of the screen, which traditionally has been where your heart rate is, your heart rate monitor.

Mm-hmm. And it’s also been where your music is now. The music only pops up at the beginning of each song, and you can have a chance to heart it, but you can go back and pull it up anytime you want. That’s the way it’s always been.

tom: Okay.

crystal: Well, that’s not the way it is now.

tom: Uhoh,

crystal: when this first got rolled out, one of the things that happened was that the music button went away completely.

It was visible at the top of the screen in the very center. When the, the new song started, that was it. Now, yes, you can go and double tap the screen [00:13:00] now. On most classes, I have been in classes where it does not work. So for anyone that wants to argue about that, I can send you the video. If you don’t believe me, uh, it’s, it’s not always showing up.

It’s not consistent. So I think this is a situation where the changes have to be implemented to each class, and we’re gonna see it slowly over time, where it will be in all classes, but it’s not there yet. That’s very frustrating to people who really like their music and especially when it first came out, it was not clear.

Was this on purpose? Yeah. Were they just getting rid of being able to see the music altogether? You only got to see it during it. It caused a lot of alarm.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: For people who like to heart their music.

tom: Yeah. I mean, a lot people approach classes differently. Some are very instructor driven, some are very modality driven, some are very music driven.

It’s true. And that’s always been a major selling point of Peloton, is

crystal: it has

tom: the music

crystal: it has. Now other people argue, well, you could have either way gone back into the class and hearted the music, but it’s not the same.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: Because when you’re listening to it, you [00:14:00] know you like that song. Right. When all I’m doing is looking at a title, I don’t remember if I like that song because I don’t remember the titles of songs.

Yeah. That’s why I hurt the music when I see it.

tom: Or it’s why you have me.

crystal: Yeah. What, who sings this?

tom: As long as your question is about classic rock or nineties alt rock. I can, I’m an encyclopedia.

crystal: The other thing that, I don’t know if this is a direct. Correlation, or I should say a direct causation. It is definitely a correlation since they rolled out this newest update.

The clock timer that shows you how long you have in a class mm-hmm. Is gone. It just says zero. It says zero during every live class. Uh, for most people it’s not everybody. And Peloton still has not recognized it as a bug. It’s not showing on their status page. I checked it just this morning, not showing up at all.

It’s just random, not there. Huh. The other thing that I think that also could have been connected, which I didn’t have record of until this morning, was that, um, some people. Specifically, [00:15:00] mostly in the UK cannot explain this. Their calories are no longer calculating the same way. Like let’s say before you would take a class and it might’ve been giving, you might’ve been burning 300 calories.

tom: Right

crystal: now you’re burning like 70. Like it’s not just a little bit different. It’s dramatically different.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: Peloton did acknowledge this morning that is a bug and it is on their status page,

tom: but you’re still actually burning

crystal: the same amount of calories. The same amount of calories. Yes. Yes you are.

tom: It’s just the metric system.

crystal: It just doesn’t show. But um, I don’t understand why it’s only some people, and I don’t understand why it seems to be mostly UK people like that isn’t like, I can’t think of a reason that would be in place. Like, it doesn’t make any sense to me

tom: the metric system.

crystal: Well then what about the people who are taking German classes?

tom: Damn it.

crystal: What about the people who are taking. Australian classes

tom: anywhere. That’s not America.

crystal: Spanish. Yeah.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: So yeah, it’s just been a wild week for updates. It’s gonna take a little bit to get through all of the, uh, oh. I have to say [00:16:00] one other thing there is, listen, the Howard Rubenstein, or whatever his name is, I’m probably not saying it correctly, but he calls himself the Peloton Whisperer and I just wanna say, he goes around telling everybody, turn off your auto updates now.

Then you don’t have these things happen. That is true. But the downside is you also don’t have any updates happening. Right. And so over time that can create more of a problem than fixing a problem. So while you should not auto update, you still need to install your updates. And he says that too, but people only hear Right.

The one part of don’t do auto updates. He’s his, his I advice is to. Film the update film, what it was like before film, what it was like after. That way you can prove that if there was an issue with the specific update, you have proof that it happened during the update. Not to not update,

tom: right?

crystal: But people here it is don’t update,

tom: is don’t ever change a thing

crystal: that causes all kinds of other problems.

So please don’t do that. People

tom: well, if you don’t update you still have Jennifer Jacobs rights [00:17:00] because it’s everything.

crystal: Just no, you have a brick

tom: frozen in time.

crystal: What you have is a brick. That’s what you have.

tom: So, uh, Peloton rolled out its partnership with train well. Mm-hmm.

It’s 100% AI based personal training platform.

And, uh, you’ve been talking to one of the robots I

crystal: have. I have.

tom: And, uh, her name is

crystal: Amanda.

tom: And you wrote a review just to give people an idea in case you, you can’t tell I am being facetious. Uh, but, but you kinda give an in-depth look at what it’s like to utilize this new service.

crystal: Yeah. Um, and, and listen, we did put in the title that it’s not AI because it is, it is a personal coach.

It is an actual person talking. So people,

tom: so many people just assume,

crystal: I can’t, it’s ai I cannot tell you how many comments I got about it. And they’re just dead wrong. But they’re convinced they’re right.

tom: Right.

crystal: It, it doesn’t matter that like they haven’t used the system. And I have, yeah. They still tell me I’m wrong.

It reminds me of the time we went to go see Valerie [00:18:00] Burelli and the man in the audience told her she had her own wedding, like attendees wrong. Like that’s what was happening. And I was just, I forgot

tom: about that. He was like, what? When this person attended your money? And she’s like, no he didn’t. He’s like, yes

crystal: he did.

Yes he did. She was like. Sir, it was my wedding. I was there. But that’s what people are acting like with this. Yeah. They’re just convinced that it’s, it’s ai and if it’s not ai, it’s going to be ai. Right. They’re convinced

tom: and that you’re on the take.

crystal: I am. Oh yeah. I’m also a she. But here’s the deal.

Here’s the real, here’s the real thing. Train well existed before Peloton partnered up with them and they created a white label app that’s trained well with Peloton wrapping on it. Right? Okay. So yes, Peloton will send a lot of people to train well, but train well can continue to scale up and it doesn’t affect Pelotons [00:19:00] expenses or anything else.

That was the other big thing. You right. Oh my God. How can they spend money on this? They

tom: didn’t.

crystal: They’re not,

tom: yeah.

crystal: And so it’s

tom: probably a revenue generator.

crystal: It probably is.

tom: They’re probably getting a kickback of, you know,

crystal: that’s what I think you

tom: pay a hundred bucks a month, they’re getting 20 of it. It’s, yeah.

crystal: Yeah. I mean, it’s basically a referral service. Right. So it would be, it would make sense for it to be revenue generated. Right. Uh, it’s only available to all access members. And here’s the thing, I did not expect to be impressed by it. I was like, I have all the things. I have a personal training certificate.

Right. Like, what do you got? And I love it. I love it. My trainer’s name is Amanda. She is a real person. And she listened to every single one of my goals, but she also adapted. Yes. The version of Train Well. Is geared toward Peloton and it integrates seamlessly, which is amazing. It’s so cool because she’ll put in, take these classes.

They show up on my schedule. I don’t have to think about it. I just go to my machine and the classes are already [00:20:00] populated. Oh, wow. I don’t have to do a thing.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: But in addition to that, I use Tonal for Strength. And she said, no problem. She created classes for me and all I had to do was put in a custom work Custom workout into tonal.

She, they can adapt to whatever.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: Whatever machines you have, you go to a gym, no problem. They can do that too. It doesn’t matter. And they check in with you. Did you miss a workout? They’re gonna find out. Why did you do extra? Oh, you got a pr, let’s discuss. Like it. She can see your heart rate in the middle of every workout.

They can see how you’re taking rests in between, like if you’re lifting, are you taking a rest? How long was that rest? Was it as long as prescribed? It’s, it is. Really great real time feedback. And just to show you, I went just to show you how good it is, how prescriptive it is. My goal was to increase my strength.

It’s, it was only two weeks, so like mm-hmm. You know, you gotta keep that in mind. But on my tonal, my [00:21:00] tonal strength score went from 4 24 to four 40.

tom: Whoa. That’s

crystal: a big jump two. I know. Yeah, I know. That’s impressive. Yeah, that’s impressive. And I love having the classes already laid out for me. Love it.

And if you only like a certain certain instructor, they can do that. If you only like a certain machine, they can do that. Like literally any combination of things they can do. This is a fabulous deal for people who are training for an event specifically. So like, if you are a person who is training for a marathon or I don’t know.

Iron Man.

tom: High Rocks.

crystal: High Rocks. They can give you specific things to do. And my trainer increased my mobility, which has really helped my runs too. Like she was like, this is something you’re not spending enough time on. Try this. My runs felt better. My runs felt better. Yeah. And just that quick. So, wow. It was amazing.

I was prepared to very much like, it’s just another thing, it’s cost a lot of money. I can’t afford it, so I’m not gonna keep going. Right. But man, is it amazing? But you

tom: see the value

crystal: in it. [00:22:00] I see the value. It is not too expensive. A hundred dollars a month for a personal trainer telling you everything.

These prices are typically three and $400 a month. I’ve seen it, yeah. $500 a month even. So a hundred bucks a month for an actual personal trainer is a fabulous deal.

tom: Peloton is going to be participating in Faces of Fitness, Chicago. 2026.

crystal: They are. And uh, this is the first time we’re going to see not one but three instructors.

We’re gonna see Jess Sims, Adrian Williams and Katie Wong all on stage together during one class. How cool is that gonna be

tom: a three for one,

crystal: right? It is a three for one. And uh, you know, they have another one of these coming up in Miami in October and I would be very shocked if there were no Peloton instructors there.

Miami, it’s the first time at Miami. Yeah. So I am gonna say, we’re gonna see, oh, I don’t know, a Cali Gullickson. Maybe a Johanna since they both live in Miami. [00:23:00]

tom: That makes sense. Cuts down on travel

crystal: expenses. Sure does. Sure does. Yeah. So very cool.

tom: Peloton had a cool, uh, special ride. Studio they partnered up with in tandem and I, we’ve talked about them.

crystal: We

tom: have on the show before, did we interview somebody that did stuff with In tandem? I think,

crystal: I don’t know if it was with In tandem. We have talked to multiple people who have had vision issues and I don’t remember if it was in tandem, that organization Not specifically, or I can’t remember that off the top of my head.

tom: Yeah, there’s another one that does something similar, but they basically, they help people that are blind or visually impaired still access. Bike rides. Yeah. And they actually had an in studio class in conjunction with, in tandem.

crystal: Yeah. It was really cool. Christine led the, taught the class and, uh, the studio was full of several members of the in tandem team.

And, uh, they just looked like they are having the time of their lives there. Like they, they really enjoyed it. [00:24:00] And that’s really cool. And I, this is not the first time that Christine has done things like this. Like she makes a point to be connected to the community in a lot of different ways. I can remember way back when, uh, the very first long ride that Peloton ever had was 120 minutes led by Christine mm-hmm.

To raise awareness for breast cancer. That was way back. Yeah. In like 13, 14, like it was a long, long time ago. Christine was the first instructor to ever do anything like that and she has continued to do things like that ever since, which is very cool.

tom: Absolutely. Peloton and pre-core. We’re going to be at the 2026 HFA show.

crystal: Yeah. Do you know what HFA stands for?

tom: No. I thought it had something to do with my year end medical discount. Pool of money?

crystal: No. I think that’s an HSA

tom: Oh

crystal: I am pretty sure. But HFA, I’m thinking it’s Home Fitness. Okay. Awards. Maybe that’s Home Fitness Something

tom: Association.

crystal: Hey, I like [00:25:00] it. Uh, but yeah, they’re gonna be at booth 1829 and 1839.

You can, uh, so you can stop by there. You can also sign up and talk to, like sign up in advance to talk to them. Like, what’s your 2026 strategy gonna be? The idea here is that it’s bringing. Solutions for facilities. So this isn’t necessarily like a personal use, this is more a facility use. So gym owners and things like that are gonna be there.

So

tom: Health and Fitness Association. Ah,

crystal: thank you. Welcome. That welcome makes a lot more sense.

tom: Yes.

crystal: And, um, you’re gonna see pre-core and Peloton both working together and they have two immersive booths that show how commercial fitness is and wellness solutions are being built for real world performance.

We’re gonna talk a little, uh, over in the bonus episode about the, uh, slat treadmill and how that’s a perfect example of it. Preview, uh, you see all of the best things of the Tread Plus, and then you see it being built [00:26:00] into this amazing machine that is made to last thousands of miles. Right? And over.

Hundreds and thousands of people using it over and over and over again. Like that’s really cool to be able to do. That’s the type of thing you’re gonna see at Precore. So it’s neat to see them at part of the show and I hope that, uh, I mean Peloton is kind of counting on this being a big business revenue, so let’s go Preco.

Yeah,

tom: absolutely. Well, coming up after this, we got instructors in the news. We’re gonna talk about the return of Ben Aldis, uh, where you can see Matt Weers and take real life Scenic rides with a Peloton instructor. So stick around.

tom: Ben Aldis. Has returned to the schedule. I say that because he’s, he’s British.

crystal: I know

tom: it’s a schedule.

crystal: Uh, he returned live classes on March 6th, so that was last Friday. He was super excited to [00:27:00] be back.

Peloton is super excited to have him back. Where is Leanne? You ask? She’s still on maternity leave because she does not live in the United States and they have like a really long comparatively, uh, maternity, I think it’s like six to nine months.

tom: And she did more of the work. Who are we kidding?

crystal: Oh my God.

Yeah, she’s, yeah, she, yes. I won’t get graphic. I almost got graphic and then I stopped myself. Save

tom: that for the bonus.

crystal: But people are really excited to have been back and, uh, nice to have him back.

tom: Absolutely. Uh, Matt Weers has a free shakeout run. For the New York City Half Marathon.

crystal: Yeah. You can ride with him.

That’s pretty cool. It’s gonna be in Central Park on, uh, March 14th. And I just have to say that Peloton Pelotons graphic called him Matt Wipers.

Not Wilber. Isn’t that hilarious?

tom: Well, it gets a little clammy out there sometimes. You gotta do what you gotta do.

crystal: Oh. So

tom: he adds a new sponsorship with, uh, dude wipes, or as they [00:28:00] call it, dude Wils.

crystal: So you get to do a shakeout run, and then you get to stretch with Matt and Team Wilber. So it’ll be a lot of fun. That’s just ahead of, like you said, the 2026 New United Airlines, New York City Half Marathon,

tom: if you like the Scenic rides and you like the Christian Vanderbilt. Do we have a treat for you?

crystal: Do we these, these are probably already gone.

These are

tom: real life scenic rides or as they’re also known rides.

crystal: This is really cool. Christian Vanderbilt is joining vibe for a Tuscany tour. I remember back when the Road of Peloton, they have a, a page group, whatever you wanna call it, and uh, they were incredibly active and they were going on these amazing trips every year, Italy and all this.

I was so jealous. I wanna go so bad. But anyway, that’s what this is from September 26th through October 3rd, you get together every day and you do [00:29:00] five rides over those five days. But you’re writing with Christian Van Devet. He is a pro cyclist. Yeah. When else can you ride next to this man on a road? I mean, you’re really, he has to be going like tricycle level.

I

tom: know for him, because I was like, well, you wouldn’t be next to him. You’d be like six miles back.

crystal: Maybe he starts later to give everybody a little head start and then he runs by us.

tom: Yeah. He like waves as he passes by. I’m sure they’ve got a system, so

crystal: I’m sure they do. Yeah. So it says that their pace balances adventure and relaxation.

They’re scenic towns like Volterra and other places that I’m not even gonna try to say. I’ll just get it wrong. But, uh, this sounds super, super cool. Uh, I hope that somebody who listens gets to go on this and tells us all about it because man, that’s a dream right there.

tom: Yeah. It does sound pretty nifty.

crystal: Yeah.

tom: Robin Arza has [00:30:00] announced her Eat to Hustle book tour.

crystal: Yes. There are four different cities she’s going to be going to, and we’ve got New York. Shocking,

tom: shocking.

crystal: Uh, and then North va, New Jersey on the 11th. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on the 12th, and Austin, Texas this weekend on the 15th.

tom: So basically East Coast and then south by Southwest.

crystal: Yeah. Yeah. When is Southwest? Southwest?

tom: I have no idea.

crystal: I didn’t know the dates of it, so I was just like, that probably is why she’s there. During that time.

tom: Yeah. Well, you talked about earlier she was gonna be a south by Southwest, so I’m assuming that the

crystal: No, that I had forgotten. Yeah, it’s it’s March 12th through 18th, so yeah.

That is why she’s there. Yeah. And then she’ll probably spend the 15th through the 18th there to do the other things. Right. So, woo, these Peloton instructors are a busy man. They are.

tom: Uh, Marcel Dinkins was featured in Memphis Health and Fitness Magazine.

crystal: I thought this was so cool. She’s from Memphis. Yeah.

You probably remember that. Um, but yeah, I [00:31:00] love that they featured her and they it’s, since it’s Memphis and it’s all about health and fitness, they talked about her background. They talked about, uh, how she went from Tennessee to becoming a New York City instructor at Peloton. Yeah. And I just, I just thought it was a great story and I’m really glad that they shared it.

I thought it was cool.

tom: Hometown girl made good.

crystal: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That’s really neat.

tom: The latest artist series features. Olivia Dean.

crystal: It does, and I am really stoked about this because Olivia Dean has a gorgeous voice. I don’t know her songs by title.

Like if you were like, oh, it’s that song I wouldn’t know it. Yeah. But like, her voice is so, so soothing and great. I am looking forward to this, uh, artist series and she’s huge. She is really at the top of her game right now. Is she? I don’t know if she’s at the top. She’s probably gonna keep going. Yeah, she is on her way up.

Very much so.

tom: Also, it’s not an artist series, but there was an unofficial [00:32:00] artist class.

crystal: Yeah.

tom: Uh, Sam Yo Snuck in a Blues Brothers Ride On People.

crystal: I thought this was so fun. So it was a 20 minute low impact ride.

And, uh, it, it says nothing about the Blues Brothers. You have to you just have to go.

tom: You gotta know.

crystal: You gotta know

tom: because you send it to me and you’re like, Hey, are all these songs on the Blues Brothers soundtrack? And it’s, there’s only one song that’s actually by the Blues Brothers. But the songs themselves as I’m going through, I’m like, oh yeah, these are all on the soundtrack to the Blues Brothers.

crystal: Yes.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: Yeah. Except for the outro. The outro has nothing to do with, uh, the Cool Down song. Okay. Has nothing to do with the Blues Brothers. And that was purposeful according to Sam. But he try

tom: to prevent lawsuits.

crystal: I mean, I don’t know. It would make sense to me.

tom: I don’t, I mean, my guess is he’s probably safe because if they paid the, for the rights of the music, and it’s not like he stacked six Blues Brothers songs on top of each other.

The Blues Brothers songs, they’re all [00:33:00] covers. Yeah. Right. Yeah. So he played other versions. Of songs that they had covered at some point. So it was probably

crystal: fine. Yeah. But what a, what a delightful way to, to spend 20 minutes just slamming through.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: That whole like a whole little soundtrack. A little mini soundtrack.

Yeah. Yeah. It sounds delightful. So if you haven’t gotten a chance to check that out, I highly recommend that you do.

tom: Especially ’cause even if you’re not a Blues fan, a lot of people aren’t.

crystal: Yeah.

tom: But like, these are songs that even I think it people who don’t care for blues music, like these songs.

crystal: Yeah.

Like, I wouldn’t consider myself a, a blues aficionado. I was, I laughed because I was thinking of Brian and Jazz and our whole con ongoing conversation, but, um, but like, soul Man is like, that’s classic for Grow my age growing up and like hearing that on Saturday night, everybody needs somebody

tom: to love.

Like

crystal: these are fun songs. Yeah. Yeah. They’re, they’re, they’re really fun songs. They’re very high energy too. So I highly recommend checking it out.

tom: And if you check out the article we wrote about it, you scroll to the bottom, you can see a picture [00:34:00] of Clip Out Crystal on stage. With the Blues Brothers.

crystal: That was pretty fun.

tom: The, the current incarnation with, with Jim Belushi and Dan Akron.

crystal: Mm-hmm. Yes. Yes. And I, I don’t wanna brag or anything, but I did get to touch Jim Belushi’s hand.

tom: Yeah, I don’t know that that is bragging.

crystal: That’s fair. It was really cool to be on stage show.

It

tom: was fun. Was a

crystal: fun

tom: show.

crystal: It was a lot of fun.

tom: We have a new celebrity sighting. Dr. Sam Ellis, creator of skincare brand prequel, was spotted on the bike. I have no idea who this is.

crystal: I don’t either.

tom: Okay.

crystal: But, uh, but apparently it’s a wonderful brand of skincare that’s per the tipster and the helper bees.

Okay. Everybody was united in this. Okay. They were very excited about prequel. Um,

tom: this is not an ad. There will be no promo code.

crystal: No. And it sounds like it’s bougie, so I won’t be buying it unless they’re sending me samples. But, um, but it’s sounds like it’s also very effective. [00:35:00] And, uh, let me tell you, our helper, bees and tipster, they take their skincare very seriously.

Okay. So they were super excited about this.

tom: whoop is planning a major expansion and, uh, most people seem to think it’s in advance of an IPO, where, which we all know always goes smoothly and rockets a company.

To success.

crystal: Ugh. Ugh. Can we go back to 2018?

tom: For so many reasons.

crystal: Yeah. Ain’t that the truth? Yeah. Whoop is saying that they are planning to expand their staff by 75%.

tom: Whoa.

crystal: Yeah, that’s huge.

tom: That’s massive.

crystal: It is. Um, like

tom: they would have to have a, a just a major plan in place to think that all of a sudden they’re gonna push out a bunch more Whoops.

Than their car. I mean, they seem, seem like they’re doing fine. So I’m not trying to,

crystal: I

tom: know just smirch their track record and you have loved yours for many, many years, but to bring on 75% more [00:36:00] people, like

crystal: I think they’ve got another product coming out.

tom: You think so?

crystal: Now when I say another product, that could just be the next generation of the whoop, I’m not saying it’s separate than the whoop.

tom: See, what I was wondering is if there’s some plan in place. To bake this technology into something that’s not a whoop device.

crystal: That could be another thing that it could relate to. Not only what you’re saying, but also what I’m saying is that they have been working on becoming a wellness company.

Mm-hmm. Like Peloton now is Right. And one of the things that they do is they, they have these lab tests that you can do through like Quest Labs. You buy it through whoop. And it does like this super in depth marker. Like they take like seven vials of blood, like it’s a lot. Mm-hmm. And then they tell you, here’s where you fit in all these things.

Here’s things you could improve. Here are things that are normal, here are things you’re already outperforming. And it is incredibly intensive. Like I showed it to my doctor and he was really impressed by it.

tom: Yeah. [00:37:00]

crystal: But I wonder if it has something to do with that wellness area, like the growth area there.

Also, I’d recently got a survey and it asked a lot of questions. I don’t remember if there was an NDA portion, so I’m gonna be very vague here. But let’s just say they had a lot of questions about how you use wearables, what wearables you’ve used over time, what made you switch, what made you use the ones you’re wearing today, right?

And I thought it was, one of the questions was, I feel like it’s okay to say this. How many do you wear right now?

tom: Yeah.

crystal: And what are they? I thought that was fascinating because they acknowledge that like. A lot of people have an Apple Watch.

tom: Multiple. Yeah.

crystal: And a whoop. Yeah. Like that’s, that’s an acknowledgement of that.

tom: Right.

crystal: So I will be very interested to see where this goes.

tom: And I would think a lot of people have an Apple Watch for all the things Apple Watch does.

crystal: Mm-hmm.

tom: And, but they don’t necessarily care about Apple Fitness.

crystal: Right.

tom: But it’s there.

crystal: It is there know, it’s, and it’s not just the fitness. Like, here’s [00:38:00] the thing about Apple.

They try to put in things like, oh see, we’re, we’re taking care of your resting heart rate and your heart rate variability. We’re telling you all that. The difference is, whoop has also done additional research that says that like, you need to be wearing your wearable all the time for the best, the best results.

Right. And that your heart rate variability needs to be taken as you’re waking up. Well, unless you’re a person who sleeps with your Apple Watch on, you’re not getting that. And Apple Watch also takes your heart rate variability all day long and says, this is your average. Well. It’s very different first thing in the morning Yeah.

Than it is throughout the day. So I personally feel that the research that Whoop has done makes logical sense to me and how they report that data makes more sense to me than the way Apple does it. So a lot of people will say, I have an Apple watch, I don’t need whoop anymore. Yeah. I disagree.

tom: Yeah. I mean, you have to charge your Apple Watch.

So most people are taking it off when they sleep to charge. Mm-hmm. Which makes sense. Mm-hmm. But it also [00:39:00] means roughly a third of your day is not being tracked.

crystal: Exactly. Exactly. Those are very different numbers. So I am a huge fan of, whoop, admittedly, uh, they’re, I’m very biased toward them, but

tom: I also wonder if maybe they have some sort of deal in place that like a major company.

Or organization is going to distribute the whoops, for

crystal: tracking purposes. Mm, interesting.

tom: Like, and, and I,

crystal: they’ve done studies before. Yeah. That wouldn’t shock me. They’ve worked with teams, they’ve done all kinds of things,

tom: but like that would maybe explain the increase in staffing. Oh, that’s true. Like if all the sudden, and I’m no insight information, I’ve just spit balling.

’cause if anybody would have this information would be you. Not me, but like what? And

crystal: I don’t,

tom: but like, what if all of a sudden the military was like, all of our soldiers should be wearing these so we can track their health.

crystal: Yeah. They would need more people. They, that’s a good point. Would

tom: you know,

crystal: that’s a good point.

tom: So I, yeah. I just, you know, makes me wonder if something like that could be in play.

crystal: It could. Well keep an eye on it.

tom: Yeah. Coming up after [00:40:00] this, we got content. We’re gonna dig into, uh, all the classes that, uh, you should be considering. So stick around.

tom: It is time for the TCO top five. You have told us your favorite classes and now we will tell them to you as well. Number one, your favorite theme ride.

crystal: This is an interesting one too, not official. This is another not official ride. Uhhuh 20 minute pop Ride Taught by Cody Rigsby on January 30th of this year.

It had all songs from Guardians of the Galaxy Ride at Epcot and Donna Pearson Ride, is it Donna Pearson Carr is going next week and she was very excited for her trip when she heard this. So yeah, that’s fun.

tom: I wonder if this is like a new game they’re playing.

crystal: I don’t

tom: know, like crafting these unofficial rides.

It reminds me of when I worked at the point a million years ago the midday jock, less Aaron. Oh, I

crystal: remember Less Aaron,

tom: more rock, less Aaron, uh. [00:41:00] And he, uh, he used to do this thing called, what’s the point where he would play three songs and you would have to guess the connection between the, I remember that.

The three songs. I remember that. So he’d play like Butthole Surfers and he’d play Seven, Mary Three and some of the other and he’d be like, oh, the connection is Chips. They all tie into the television show Chips ’cause Eric Estrada’s in the video for butthole surfers. Then, uh, seven Mary three was the call sign on chips that they used.

crystal: This will not shock you. I never got any of those, right?

tom: Yeah. And so a lot of times I would come up with them for him ’cause I liked em so much. You did. I would come up with these, I’m not, not like every day or anything, but I would be like, Hey, I got a new one. These three all tied together like this. I’d thought, oh, that’s good.

I’m like, these are all bands that have canceled shows in St. Louis, you know, but, uh, but between this and then the Blues Brothers things, it feels like they’re almost like playing a little game.

crystal: Well, it’s fun and I love it. It’s so, I’m all here for it.

tom: Uh, number two, your favorite rock ride.

crystal: Okay. So Dennis did a nineties ride, but [00:42:00] not only, what is it, a nineties ride.

It also was his unofficial women’s history Month class. First of all. I love that Dennis had one.

tom: Yeah,

crystal: that’s amazing. And, uh, second of all, Betsy Arndt said his 30 minute nineties rock ride was his official unofficial women’s history month ride. And it was all female singers and it was a very challenging class.

tom: Awesome. Uh, number three, your favorite throwback.

crystal: Okay. So brought to you by Dark Peloton Uhhuh. Uh, she, I loved this ride. It was taught by Olivia Amato. We went back in time to January, uh, January 30th, 2020. And Olivia Amato had a. Guns and roses. Ride dark Peloton says This week I time traveled via Olivia Amato’s Guns and Roses ride.

And straight back to 1987, my bike became a time machine powered by aquanet fumes and big hair energy. I love it.

tom: Uh, number four, your favorite stretch.

crystal: Liz Nickol brought this to us and it was [00:43:00] a 20 minute full body stretch with Hannah Corbin. Liz said, sometimes I leave a full body stretch, disappointed because it didn’t hit everything I needed, not this one.

A favorite I will do again and again. Every stretch that Hannah does is a compound stretch and you were able to stretch several areas at the same time. I also found there were a number of postures that were pretty unique, so it made the class more interesting, very accessible, and I felt fantastic head to toe.

tom: And uh, finally number five, you are unst stackable.

crystal: This was brought to us by Elizabeth Schlosberg. Minute to spin it, she said uh, well, I’m sorry. Lemme say the class first. It was a 30 minute. 30 minute kettlebell strength class with Jermaine Johnson teaching, and that was from January 5th of this year.

She said that she loves JJ for helping her learn kettlebells. The class was very straightforward and incorporated unilateral work with offset weights. The clear pacing and encouraging tone helped me feel accomplished, and yes, I was just the right amount of sour. The next day.

tom: Taking a look at this week [00:44:00] at Peloton, we have morning yoga and meditation.

crystal: We do. Uh, and so there’s going to be new classes dropping from Mariana and Chelsea and, oh, that’s, they’re both Chelsea. There’s a yoga flow with Chelsea and a meditation with Chelsea, and we also have a 20 minute intermediate morning slow flow with Mariana.

tom: There’s also a new soundtrack. Strength.

crystal: Yeah, we haven’t had one of these in a little bit. It’s gonna be brought to us by Callie and it’s dropped on demand today, so that’s super fun.

tom: There’s a 60 minute walk run

crystal: with Marcel Dinkins that’s gonna be dropping on March 12th. That’s gonna be a live class at 3:30 PM Eastern,

tom: and people love their long power zone rides.

Matt Wiler has a 90 minute one.

crystal: We do. Yeah, it’s gonna be this Saturday at 8:30 AM Eastern 90 minutes of power zone.

tom: Taking a look at the radar. We have more women’s history month classes.

crystal: We do week two is up and uh, we’ve got reggaeton with, uh, [00:45:00] Camila. We’ve got a Walk plus run with Jess Sims, alternative Pilates with Johan, Johanna, uh, and then a rock ride with Emma. Not to mention an outdoor pop run with Becks

tom: and Christian Vanderville.

We talked about his real life rides, but he also has real routes.

crystal: And this real route is in America. It’s in South Carolina. How cool is that?

tom: Now here’s a holiday I can get behind.

crystal: Okay.

tom: World Sleep Day.

crystal: It does sound pretty great.

tom: It’s great for the Annie woke crowd.

crystal: Well, on Friday,

tom: I’m sure Chelsea Jackson, Robert loves be saying that,

crystal: I’m sure.

tom: I’m sure.

crystal: On March 13th, you should take the time to sleep and, uh, it’s, she’s gonna have a brand new meditation that’s dropping that day.

So are you going to take the day off and sleep?

tom: When was it

crystal: the 13th? I already know the answer. It’s this weekend. You have two concerts this weekend.

tom: I have to work that day.

crystal: I know you do

tom: got a big filter show[00:46:00]

crystal: the way you say it.

tom: Uh, we also, you

crystal: could sleep in

tom: That’s, that’s true. I could maybe do that. We have a 60 minute two for one full body strength.

crystal: Yeah. And it’s going to be a, Saul and Cliff are gonna be doing that and it is going to be on March 13th.

tom: Alex K has a 60 minute Hidden Hills run. Where are you hills?

crystal: Okay. I don’t know that I would take this class like I would need Whew. 60 minutes of hit and hill with Alex. Yeah, the man who does the max out run. And I almost puked. Woo. This is gonna be a burner. Like this will be like, if you have a reason to burn a lot of energy, this is gonna be it. Oof.

tom: So I need to put a preface on this next one.

For the American men listening, don’t freak out.

crystal: Mm-hmm.

tom: There’s a Mother’s Day ride. You didn’t forget it. Unless you’re British.

crystal: Yeah. Then you might’ve,

tom: it’s UK Mother’s Day.

crystal: Right.

tom: There’s [00:47:00] just different,

crystal: well, there’s a ride that Hannah Frankston is going to be doing on Saturday, March 14th. So make sure and take care of your mom if you’re British this weekend.

tom: And, uh, Becks Gentry has a 120 minute long run to celebrate St. Louis Day.

crystal: What?

tom: Yeah, it’s on 3 1 4.

crystal: Oh, wow. I haven’t heard that in a long time. Wow. Uh, yes. 9:30 AM Eastern, two hours of Becks Gentry running.

tom: And there is a saint. Patrick’s day ride courtesy of Christine Dele. ’cause when I think Irish, I think Dele.

crystal: That makes sense.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: Well, she’s going to be teaching that on St. Patrick’s Day at 9:30 AM Eastern

tom: and Ash Pryor has a 45 minute row.

crystal: Yeah, these are, these are rough. She’s gonna have this on March 22nd.

And boy, if you can get into this live, I can’t imagine doing 45. I like, I don’t have the, [00:48:00] it’s funny, I can run all day. Yeah. Row 45 minutes. That’s a lot. It is a lot. I can do it, but it’s a lot.

tom: Yeah, it sounds it.

crystal: Oh,

tom: and then Jermaine has a four day split program for you.

crystal: Yes. Uh, this is gonna be starting on March 27th, and it’s gonna be targeted muscle work four days a week.

Can’t wait to see what that looks like.

tom: Andy Spear has debuted the reset.

crystal: Yeah. We’re hoping this turns into a whole set of classes, but, uh, last week they posted on the socials, Peloton posted on the socials Andy going like this and talking about a new class type that was coming. So

tom: like standing with bad posture?

crystal: Yeah. Standing. Oh, right.

Yeah. Not everybody’s watching,

tom: right?

crystal: Duh. Yeah. Um, and, uh, so yeah, he was standing with bad posture and so we’re hoping this is, uh, going to help with people during their lunch break. I believe that the, uh, tipsters who wrote it, or I’m sorry, the helper bes that wrote it, said, uh, it looks like Peloton is coming for our lunch breaks.[00:49:00]

tom: Uh, and then finally for this segment, Peloton has expanded its High Rocks training program

crystal: they have, and it’s a very subtle e expansion, but. Each week they’re posting on their social media. A class you can take at the gym. Mm-hmm. Which is important because if you’re training for a High Rocks training program or High Rocks competition, you need to do all of the things.

Right. You can’t just do your equipment. You’ve gotta do all the stuff. Yeah. So, uh, this is really great. And somebody said I have not seen this, but I was told that at the end of Andy’s classes he also flashes up a screenshot of what that class is gonna be. I’ve only seen it on social media ’cause I haven’t taken any of these High Rocks classes.

Yeah. But if anybody sees it, make sure to explain how that works to me. ’cause I don’t get it. So I’m curious. I’m curious.

tom: Yeah.

crystal: Like, is it just an image of a phone? Like, I don’t, you know what I mean? Yeah. Like how are they getting, are they making a graphic for it and they’re putting it up there, right. Like I just, that’s what I picture Yeah.

Is a graphic they’ve made. But, um, knowing [00:50:00] how sometimes there are spelling errors and things like that is just like, I don’t know, is it surprised me?

tom: Before we do the birthdays of the week. We should back up a little bit because Greta Dopp had a birthday on March 6th, which as she’s a new instructor, wasn’t on our calendar yet, but she is now.

crystal: She is now.

tom: So happy belated birthday to Greta Dopp.

crystal: Happy belated birthday.

tom: And, uh, coming up on March 16th, we have Samo

crystal: happy birthday to Sam.

tom: On March 17th, St. Patrick’s Day, we have Marcel Dinkins and Peloton.

crystal: That’s when they incorporated

tom: that is when they officially incorporated as Peloton. They did

crystal: the, so it’s 12 years this year.

I believe,

tom: I guess, I don’t know. I’d have to look in in the notes. Well, we

crystal: did our 10 year a couple years ago. That’s the only reason I was thinking

tom: that. Okay. Yeah, that makes sense.

crystal: Yeah.

tom: But yeah, that, like they, October

crystal: 13th,

tom: they were around for a little bit before that, but that, this is the day in which they officially incorporated as a [00:51:00] business, so Very

crystal: cool.

tom: And then on March 18th is Jeffrey McKean. So

crystal: well, happy birthday, Sam. Marcel Peloton. Yeah. And Jeffrey.

tom: Yeah. So I guess that brings this episode to a close until next week. Where can people find you?

crystal: People can find me on Facebook at facebook.com/crystal Do O’Keefe. They can find me on Blue Sky Threads, Instagram and the Peloton leaderboard at clip out Crystal.

tom: And you can find me on Threads and Blue Sky at Tom O’Keefe Jr. Or on Facebook at facebook.com/tom O’Keefe. You can find the show [email protected] slash clip out. While you’re there, like the page, join the group. If you just cannot get enough of us, I got two things for you. First off, of course, the Patreon, patreon.com/.

The clip out five bucks a month, you get ad free episodes, you get all sorts of bonus content and, uh, early episodes. And of course, we like you better and if you want a little bit more crystal in your life, but you don’t wanna spend money on it, you could check out, uh, this week’s episode of real spoilers.

We went and saw [00:52:00] the bride

crystal: and I had stuff to say

tom: and, uh, she sat in on the episode. So you get to be

crystal: I was invited.

tom: Yes.

crystal: I was the token girl.

tom: Yes. You were the token female to talk about this. Feminist polemic of a film. But but yeah, so if you wanna check that out, it’s over there with, uh, it’s like a little extra clip out, but it’s all rabbit hole.

It’s ’cause there’s no Peloton. So, uh, there’s no one there to rein me in. Well, she’s there, which can’t reign me in.

crystal: Nope.

tom: There’s,

crystal: there’s three of ’em. And, uh, I I was outnumbered. I there was no reigning those rabbit holes in.

tom: I ain’t a sidekick on real spoilers.

crystal: No, I was, I had to sit in the guest chair.

tom: Yes, yes.

So, uh, but, uh, so anyway, as always, thank you for listening and supporting the show. And until next time, keep paddling

crystal: and running

tom: and rowing.

crystal: Bye. [00:53:00]
