Crystal: Welcome to the clip out episode 4 52. This is Crystal O’Keefe.

Tom: And this is Tom O’Keefe.

Crystal: Hi.

Tom: Hi. So you got your long awaited active hamper on.

Crystal: I did, I did. I’ve been waiting for this so long.

Tom: Yeah. We had the prototype and you totally dug it.

Crystal: I totally did. And

Tom: then they seized it.

Crystal: Well, it was a prototype.

Yeah. And then the, you know, I guess I’ve never made a product from scratch, but it seems that it is not a short process.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: And so they [00:01:00] took it back and then it took a really long time for them to ship. But I am so excited that it’s finally here.

Tom: Me too.

Crystal: Yeah, I know. It makes such a difference, right?

Tom: It does.

Crystal: It, it’s like

Tom: because it, like it really just kills any. Laundry odor. Yeah, he said delicately.

Crystal: I mean, it’s okay. Yeah. Like I, I, I sweat especially like in the summer, especially if I’m doing a lot of running right now I’m in a strength training, so I don’t feel like I’m as sweaty, but like I still run.

Yeah. Here and there. And so what happens is I, if we don’t have the active hamper, I take my exercise clothes and I hang them on the side of the bathtub so that they can dry before I put them. With the regular dirty clothes, because if I don’t, they get all funky. Right now you’ve got mold and mildew on top of funk, which is awful.

So that’s my way of protecting the laundry. But with the active hamper, it’s so cool because it like dries, it helps dry your clothes faster because they put these like crystals in it.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: But it also is that, [00:02:00]

Tom: did they call ’em that ’cause of you?

Crystal: They did. Okay. They were like, we’re gonna name it after you.

Just kidding. But also the, the crystals that are in it, they like. Make it smell better. Yeah. So not only are they taking out the, the, the wetness, the dampness of the exercise clothes, but they’re also getting rid of the scent. It’s and, and then like it has a top over it and it has like three different nets so that you can take like one’s, I use it this way, like one’s for my sports bra.

Yeah, one’s for my leggings, one’s for my TIG top. And that way they’re, every day you’re kind of sorting them and they’re drying, and it can handle like five outfits, five dirty outfits, and then you go in. Wash them.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: And you just throw it in with the rest of your laundry. It’s, it’s amazing. It’s amazing.

It’s so simple and such a, such a simple concept. Yeah. And I love it so much.

Tom: Well, bathrooms get stinky enough.

Crystal: They do, they do without

Tom: extra help.

Crystal: And I mean, we’re [00:03:00] pretty fortunate. We have a pretty large bathroom. We do, we do. And bedroom And, uh, the

Tom: upsides of living in the Midwest.

Crystal: Absolutely. We have a lot of room. And so that’s great and all, but like, ’cause that helps dissipate the funk.

Yeah. But like, when you’re working out a lot and I do is it can get real funky. Like, it, I, I, I don’t like the funk. Yeah. So it’s really nice to. Put a cap on that. And uh, if anybody out there is interested, there are codes. So if you wanna get your own active hamper, it’s Crystal 10. Yeah. You go to active hamper.com, putting Crystal 10, you get 10 bucks off if you wanna buy the hamper and six months of the little crystal buckets that you put in the bottom.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: Then you can get $15 off. And that is Crystal 15.

Tom: And we should say the creators of this are longtime listeners of the show.

Crystal: They are. And, uh, I believe they live right here in Missouri.

Tom: Oh, how about that?

Crystal: Yeah.

Tom: So they have a large bathroom too.

Crystal: Presumably. I think it’s pretty cool to see somebody start up a, a company in the [00:04:00]middle of a craziness that is the world right now.

Yeah. And uh, they’ve been, they’ve been at this for like two and a half, three years.

Tom: All we really have is what. Beer and greeting cards

Crystal: and John Ham.

Tom: I meant in terms of businesses that have been created here. Oh

Crystal: yeah. Well, dog food.

Tom: Okay.

Crystal: Yeah.

Tom: Actually we have quite a few.

Crystal: We do

Tom: because, uh, Walt Disney started here.

Crystal: That’s true.

Tom: So.

Crystal: Crown candy.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: We got a few things. Yeah.

Tom: So, uh, what pray tell do you have in store for people this week?

Crystal: Well, we are going to talk about this new personal training program that Peloton just launched and, uh, woo. People have opinions. They are, people don’t read and they have opinions.

Tom: They are all up in their fields.

Crystal: They are very American this week. Yeah. Um, we also are gonna talk about separately. Pelotons IQ and how it’s calculating its insights that’s separate because

Tom: these are not the same thing.

Crystal: One is AI and one isn’t. Even if you people can’t get it through your head. [00:05:00] That’s the people that read the headlines and not the articles.

Yes. Uh, we’re gonna talk about these club Peloton demotions. They are back and, uh, I think I have a theory. As to why. Okay, we’re gonna talk about that. There’s a big Peloton winter sales event, so all the equipment is on sale. We’re gonna talk about that and the details. We’re gonna talk about all the instructor news that happened this week who had a baby who launched a podcast, who had an anniversary.

All kinds of things. Uh, not to mention, we are going to get into the latest artist series and we are going to talk about the latest content that you cannot miss.

Tom: Awesome. Well, before all that, let’s do some shameless plugs.

Crystal: All right,

Tom: shall we? Uh, don’t forget, we’re available on Apple Podcast, Spotify, iHeart.

Tune in wherever you find a podcast. You can find us. While you were there, be sure and follow us so you’d never miss an episode. Maybe leave us a review. That is super helpful and greatly appreciated. You can also find us on the Facebook facebook.com/the clip out. If you haven’t liked the page and join the group yet, why not?

Crystal: Yeah, just come on over and join us. Just come on [00:06:00] over.

Tom: Yeah. Yeah. It’s a great way to stay up to date on things throughout the week. There’s so much. Content we create that’s not audio based.

Speaker 3: Yes.

Tom: That, uh, it lives over there. So you can also, uh, check out our patreon, patreon.com/the clip out. If you would like to support the show with more than your ears, we would like more than your ears.

Sure. What do you get? It’s, well, first off, what does it cost? It’s only $5 a nominal fee in the grand scheme of things in today’s world. And it gets you ad free episodes. It gets you. Bonus content that we create. I’m waiting for my energy drink to kick in. Tell, can you tell? I can tell. I can tell. I get you bonus content.

Each week we record a new episode. I mean, some 30, sometimes 40, 50 minutes. Yeah. Depending on how chatty we are.

Speaker 3: Yeah.

Tom: This week, what will we be discussing? Sometimes we discuss, fitness adjacent things, Peloton, adjacent things, health, wellness stuff. And sometimes it’s just certain things that I find interesting.

Crystal: Oh dear.

Tom: We’re gonna be [00:07:00] talking about Facebook’s death bot.

Crystal: Okay.

Tom: And

Crystal: what, oh, I did see this.

Tom: What that means.

Crystal: Yeah.

Tom: That’s craziness. It

Crystal: is crazy.

Tom: Sleep.

Crystal: That sounds actually quite delightful.

Tom: Yeah. Yeah. It’s a new thing. We’ll be talking about that. And which instructor? Is teaching in a prison.

Crystal: It’s not who you would

Speaker 3: expect.

Tom: So who would you expect?

Speaker 3: I don’t know.

Tom: Careful,

Speaker 3: but whoever, it’s, it’s not that.

Tom: Okay. So, uh, we’ll be talking all of that over on the Patreon. You also get early episodes, so you don’t have to wait till Friday. You’ll get these typically Thursday mornings. So, uh, and then of course we have a website. The club out.com constantly updated with various content, and you can sign up for our newsletter while you are there and you’ll get links and things that we talk about sent to you on a mostly weekly basis, depending on my work schedule and or memory.

So there’s all that. Let’s dig in, shall we?

Crystal: [00:08:00] We shall.

Tom: Peloton has launched its personal training program. It is in beta. It is mandatory. It’s $1 million a year, and it is completely run by a combination of AI and child slave labor.

Thank you for listening.

Crystal: Oh my word. Okay, so let’s talk about what does Peloton launching anything mean? Let’s back that up.

Tom: It means people are gonna be mad.

Crystal: Yeah, for real. Good God. Okay, so.

Tom: Here’s the internet. Peloton needs to do more, but not that.

Crystal: Yes,

Tom: copy control. C. Control V Control. C. Control. V Control. C Control.

Crystal: So there’s a company called Train Well. Train Well existed. Before [00:09:00] it that like, they have existed for years. I don’t know how long, but they’ve been out there. Okay. They, uh, are very similar to kind of like what we did at Met Pro as coaches and, but their focus is on exercise, not nutrition. Not nutrition.

Right. Uh, and so the idea is that you team up with a coach who gives you a personal workout program and they hold you accountable. So like. If so, you have check-ins with them regularly. Mm-hmm. And you have conversations about what worked, what didn’t work. This could be particularly helpful for people who are training for something, but it could be for anybody who’s like, let’s say, getting started with working out, or maybe they wanna add more modalities, but they don’t know how to work in.

Right. You know, like maybe you’ve been a cyclist and you’re like, gosh, I really need to add strength in, but I have no idea how to do it.

Tom: Right. And maybe have the motivation, but not the knowledge base of like, what things should I be doing?

Crystal: Exactly.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: So. For a month of programming. You get it. You get to [00:10:00] talk to a coach every week.

They design a program for you and that’s $179 a month through Train. Well, now Peloton teamed up with them and this was announced yesterday as a beta. Okay.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: Ah, as a beta, you get all the things I just told you.

Tom: Right.

Crystal: Except it’s all Peloton based. So they’re going in and giving you specific Peloton workouts and modalities to do.

Tom: Gotcha.

Crystal: And it is $99 a month. So that is a savings for people who were paying $179 a month.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: Now it’s only for Peloton members who have the All Access membership.

Tom: Okay.

Crystal: But let me be clear. It is in addition to your all access membership, right? So if you were doing this, you would be all in for 150 bucks plus tax and all the good stuff, right?

So q, the outrage, um, let’s see. [00:11:00]

Tom: The outrage industrial complex.

Crystal: Yes. Uh, I had one. Person. I would call him a gentleman, but I didn’t feel as if he acted like one. Tell me how this was so dumb because Peloton just let all those people go and how dare they? And I was like, listen bud. Here’s the thing.

This is revenue generating.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: And, and, and getting rid of people is saving money. So like I don’t understand how you’re comparing the two

Tom: right.

Crystal: At all.

Tom: And this is a third party, so it’s not like they’ve. Fired people over here to hire people over there.

Crystal: Oh, but wait, Mr. Gentleman who knows it all,

Tom: okay.

Crystal: He says to me, well, ’cause I said they may have done this for zero cost. It’s a beta, right? It’s a test. So like there, there could be zero costs coming from Peloton for this. Well it’s not $0 to launch and build a website and a, and an app. And I was like, sir, read the article. They already existed.

Speaker 3: Yeah.

Crystal: It’s powered by train.

[00:12:00] Well do do those words like you don’t even have to read the article. It says it in the headline. Okay. So he’s still convinced he’s right.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: I have nothing to help you. I, I don’t know how to help you. Yeah, just go on with your outrage. I don’t know what to do for you. Then let’s cue the next layer of outrage, which is

Tom: I feel like.

Know how he felt about Tun Day’s. Magic Mike ride.

Crystal: Mm-hmm. I totally agree. Yeah. There was some pearl clutching going on. Then you have the people who are like, this is ai. This is disgusting. How awful. Guys like, again, read the article, like literally, this is real People. People said that about Met Pro two, that we were just ai.

Yeah, that’s all we were doing. We were real people. We were really texting you. We were really talking to you on the phone, like you don’t. You don’t know what you’re talking about. Yeah. Because you haven’t used it, so probably you need to shut your mouth and actually do your research. It’s, I just couldn’t believe the amount of people, because I even said to them, this is an ai, like look, they have coaches here, here are pictures.

Yeah. Of coaches. Here’s their, here are their, their pictures. Those pictures

Speaker 3: of

Tom: [00:13:00] ai.

Crystal: They said, well. AI is doing the heavy lifting. How do you know?

Tom: Yeah,

Crystal: like you’re not using it. How do you know if we’re all getting Crystal the same crystal?

Tom: The lack of evidence is the evidence.

Crystal: This is, I have, it’s been a while.

It’s been a minute since I’ve had this much. Upsetness with zero evidence and zero. Like I know that I’m right. Yeah. And, and I’m being told I’m wrong. Like it’s Daniel McKenna Day is all over again. You know what I’m saying? But, uh, not as mean. Like not as bad. Yeah. Because those people I blocked, like the awful people, they got blocked.

But anyway. This is not that big of a deal guys. Like, it really isn’t like, if you don’t wanna partake, don’t partake and do it like no one’s making you and it’s a beta. If it doesn’t test well and no one uses it, it’s gonna go away. Just like other stuff has. Yeah, there have been beta tests that never made it to fruition.

Tom: Yeah. I’m not gonna lie, I hear this and I’m just like, why would you spend a hundred dollars a month on that? But I

Crystal: get it,

Tom: but there are people out there. That do apparently. So like spend more.

Crystal: Well, I [00:14:00] had a lot of people say, well, why would I do that? I use power zone pack. Okay. Oh, but, but, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

But I will say there are people that need to have somebody who actually is. Trained and certified as a personal trainer, which all of these people are

Speaker 3: Yeah.

Crystal: Tell you how to do things in a way that you don’t get hurt. And there have been many people that have gotten hurt on the challenges over the year, years that are just put up by people who, who just, like, I don’t, let’s say I don’t have any health problems, I don’t have any mobility issues, and I can do seven rides a week, not everybody can.

Right? Yeah. And when you’re pushing them to do so, that can cause other problems. And so having. Having that other layer there of like, this has been designed for you by a trainer. Like, there’s nothing wrong with that. Like I, I don’t understand why everybody’s so mad about it. I know. I just don’t, I don’t get the vitriol.

Is it just because it’s change? Is it because it’s extra introduced? Did something introduced something new Extra? Yeah. Maybe it’s because it’s extra money and they want it for. [00:15:00] But like it’s a real person talking to you. You’re not gonna get that for free. Right. It’s really, it’s 25 bucks a week, 25 bucks a week to have somebody create a plan for you and talk to them and keep you accountable.

That’s not a crazy fee. I’m not gonna pay for it.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: I don’t feel like I need it. I can train myself when needed. Right. And we have the tonal. And we have the Peloton. I know how to put that stuff together.

Tom: Right.

Crystal: But like

Tom: not everybody has a skillset or the time.

Crystal: Or the interest. Yeah. You know, I can’t tell you how many people.

That I coached over at MedPro that would say to me, I just, you just tell me what to do. Yeah. Now I think long term that can be a problem, but I also understand when you’re first getting started, especially it can,

Tom: you need those, you need those dots real close together.

Crystal: You do.

Tom: And I mean, I’ve said many times over the years, that’s what I like about Tonal, is that I pick a program.

I just go down and I do what it tells me to do and I don’t think about it.

Crystal: One positive comment that the article got that I thought was really something to to think about is for people who have a adhd mm-hmm. And need to be told as you, I mean, it’s a different reason, right. But like, here’s your [00:16:00] accountability.

Do these three things this week, just do it.

Speaker 3: Yeah.

Crystal: And like that can cut through the clutter Yeah. In somebody’s mind. And that can be super helpful and worth the money to some people.

Speaker 3: Right.

Crystal: I mean. I just don’t see the downside here. If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work if it, if you don’t have interest, you don’t have interest.

But it could also be really cool for people who do, and I don’t get why people are so upset about that.

Tom: And, and nothing changes about your life.

Crystal: Right.

Tom: If you don’t need or want it.

Crystal: Right.

Tom: So

Crystal: I, and it’s not ai.

Tom: Yeah. It’s,

Crystal: it’s just not like there’s real people there.

Tom: So speaking of ai mm-hmm. We’ll talk about something that is ai Peloton iq.

Crystal: See how it’s labeled that it is ai?

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: See how they, they tell you that right there. It’s amazing. Uh, so AI put this IQ out back when they did the cross training. Okay. That was, that was part of the rollout. And if you get the new cross training equipment. You get the deeper IQ insights is doing movement tracking.

It’s correcting your form. Like there’s a whole layer of things that you don’t get. [00:17:00] Like I don’t get them on. Let’s say if I do a bootcamp and I’m, I’m on the tread and I hop off the tread to do a workout, I’m not gonna get those insights from like, oh, you’re, you’re lifting that, that barbell all wrong.

Right. You know, I’m not gonna get that. So you do get it with. The cross training. Now, the, it also is giving you some insights every time you use your bike or your tread or your row, because it’s able to tell what kind of classes you’re doing overall, so it’s able to give you some basic stuff like. Hey, hey Crystal, you’ve, uh, you’ve done a bike ride six days this week.

Maybe it’s time to mix it up,

Speaker 3: right?

Crystal: You know, or it’ll say things like, yeah, you wanna do this, but like, uh, is a pretty tough one. And compared to the last, it doesn’t look like this is a good fit for you. Like it gives you some real insights,

Speaker 3: right?

Crystal: But this article is about how it works. So it has this engine that takes all this information in, and it’s from.

Your distance, [00:18:00] your output, your heart rate zones, as well as cadence for cycling, pace for running, and then it processes it from third party sources like Apple Health, Garmin, you, you opted in members. Okay. So like, just be clear. They, they take. Summaries of past activities and then they look forward to guide behavior.

For example, one insight might suggest that a user increase their weight for a specific strength move or schedule a recovery day with a foam rolling to aid muscle repair. So that’s how it works.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: Data in, data out, that is ai

Tom: and I think this is kind of the future in terms of the two parallel tracks.

Right.

Crystal: I totally

Tom: agree. It’s like. AI is gonna be baked in and free or low cost. And if you, if you want a live body,

Crystal: which you could look at as a concierge type of service, right? Like it’s a deeper level. You have a person holding your hand

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: That is gonna cost you.

Tom: [00:19:00] Yeah.

Crystal: And that’s like anything in life.

Yeah. What isn’t like that, you know, you can, you could stay it in, you could stay at a.

Tom: A holiday, a Holiday Inn, a Holiday Inn Express. Or if you wanna get fancy, you could stay at a Holiday Inn. Now, not everyone has our degree of fanciness. We don’t want to make you jealous out there. Sometimes we do splurge and stay at a Holiday Inn instead of a Holiday Inn Express.

Not to toot our own horn, but.

Speaker 3: Toot toot.

Tom: So there the club Peloton demotions. Rage on.

Crystal: They do. It was really interesting this week because a few things happened like all at once. So we have so many tipsters and helper bees that are constantly, we’re in Slack and we’re talking to each other all day, and this all happened within three minutes.

One person chimes in and says, Hey, wait a second, I was a legend and now I’m a gold three. They had went in to [00:20:00] buy apparel and while they were buying it. Demoted them from Legend to Gold three. And they were like,

Tom: so it took away their discount?

Crystal: Yes. Oh my. So, so like they, they write this. While that happens, we all go to check out our own profiles, like what’s going on.

And, um, we notice that instead of just being like, legend or champion, I’m still a champion. I haven’t made it to the legend.

Tom: Maybe one day,

Crystal: maybe

Tom: maybe one day on your 10th anniversary.

Crystal: Well, that’s coming up.

Tom: That’s like three months away.

Crystal: Yeah. I, uh, I saw that. Instead of just saying champion, now, it says Champion 25,000.

So it like shows you that like you have breached a milestone within whatever guideline you’re in. So like, legend has one that’s 50,000. Okay. And, uh, it doesn’t appear to do anything different. Just I know you’re gonna ask that right now.

Tom: Does it, does it do anything different though?

Crystal: No.

Tom: Okay.

Crystal: So far there’s nothing that shows is different.

And then by the time we had all checked our profiles, she was still checking out [00:21:00] it restored it. She was back to legend.

Tom: So you think they’re getting ready to roll out things?

Crystal: I think that was them rolling out something. I think they were adding that to people’s profiles. Yeah. And it like just glitched. I think it was just a weird glitch.

Tom: Gotcha.

Crystal: But, um, other people noticed it within there was another thing that happened on the same day, and I don’t remember, maybe I separated these two topics, so forgive me if I did, but, um. There was a class where a person was taking a class and they noticed that there were a bunch of people listed as first timers on the bike.

Mm-hmm. Like tons of them.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: But they were all legends. Now, I’m not saying that can’t happen because if you had a tread and you became a legend or you had a row and you became a legend, it’s possible you’re taking your first bike ride.

Tom: Okay.

Crystal: Possible.

Tom: Possible.

Crystal: But to have like 15 on one ride, yeah,

Tom: that seems

Crystal: unlikely.

Like all bullshit.

Tom: Yeah, that seems unlikely.

Crystal: So all of that happened within a two day time period. So think of that what you will, I think it was just a glitch. I think they’re just trying to roll things out and stuff gets [00:22:00] messy, but. I thought it was interesting nonetheless. Yeah.

Tom: So, uh, Peloton is having its winter sales event.

Crystal: Yeah. As, uh. Some people noted in their rants about Peloton and the ai, that’s not ai,

Tom: right?

Crystal: Um, they did note that there have been a ton of sales and that if Peloton was selling all this hardware with AI in it as well as they wanted, that there would not be all these sales.

Tom: What must they think about Toyotathon

Crystal: or the dare to dream?

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: I, I don’t know. Uh, this person’s pretty negative about everything. Yeah. But you can. Regardless, it’s a great time to buy. Yeah. You can save up to $1,200 on the equipment and it is limited time. So there’s $1,200 off treads, up to $1,200, up to $700 off bikes and up to $200 off row.

Tom: Okay.

Crystal: So

Tom: if you looking for a new piece of equipment, either a replacement mm-hmm.

Or branching out to a [00:23:00] new modality, this could be your time to shine.

Crystal: It could.

Tom: So coming up after this, we got instructors in the news. We’re gonna talk about which instructor had her baby, although you probably know who’s got a new podcast. And uh, we will recap Alex Ance Peloton Anniversary weekend. So join us, won’t you?

Tom: Callie Gullickson had her baby since our last recording.

Crystal: Yes, she did.

Tom: Oh, I think she probably had it before our previous recording, but it was not announced yet.

Crystal: Yeah, yeah. We were pretty sure that that Monday she was in labor and we were right.

Tom: Yes, you typ, you typically are.

Crystal: Don’t always get the credit, but Yes, yes I am.

But uh, yes, Callie had her baby number two and, uh, baby and mom are both at home. Everybody’s good. She had her big debut in People Magazine. Oh,

Tom: fancy.

Crystal: Uh, so hopefully her college is paid for.

Tom: Yeah, they

Crystal: should do it. And I know, right. And, uh, although [00:24:00] college getting more expensive every day, so maybe not,

Tom: let’s get put it in a savings account and just leave it a, a mutual fund

Crystal: or something.

There you go. Let it grow. Let it grow. But, uh, congrats to the whole family. By the way all of their names begin with C. Everybody’s name is a C name and they continued that tradition with baby number two. Uh, and it is Cody Jean Howell.

Tom: That’s interesting. D naming the baby Cody, given that they work at Peloton and Cody’s.

So hypo, but

Crystal: this is C-O-D-I-E. Okay. And it’s a girl.

Tom: Okay.

Crystal: They named their boy cash. So they’ve got Callie, Chris Cash, Cody I don’t remember what the dog’s name is, but I feel like it might be a CNA as well. Yes, yes, yes. Charlie.

Tom: Charlie. But they dropped the alliteration for the dog.

Crystal: They did. I figure your C was close enough.

I

Tom: wonder how the dog feels about that. Feels,

Crystal: I, I think that dog’s gonna be okay.

Tom: Feels a little left out,

Crystal: you think?

Tom: [00:25:00] Yeah.

Yeah.

Tom: I just like, it’s funny my son’s name is Brian, and

Crystal: I think most people know that

Tom: well, I don’t know how much people pay attention. And it’s funny, I almost went with Ryan, but at the time I worked with somebody named Ryan and I was like, that would be weird to like.

I named my kid the same name as you.

Crystal: Yeah. So, yeah, I, I can’t tell you how many names I dismissed because of people I didn’t like that had similar names. Yeah. Or people that I really liked that had similar names, like if there was too much emotion attached to either direction. Sure. I didn’t like it. It felt weird.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: So, yeah,

Tom: I get that.

Crystal: Yeah.

Tom: Robin Arza is launching her own podcast project. Swagger.

Crystal: Yes. And that continues her swagger. Brand sweat with swagger, et cetera. And uh, it’s going to be a 30 minute podcast. It’s gonna be launching on February 24th. It is a transformation toolkit for listeners aiming to elevate their hustle and build a stronger [00:26:00] sense of self.

It’s gonna have actionable advice, motivational insights, and reflects the same energy arza Robin brings to her Peloton classes.

Tom: I guess we’ll have to keep an eye out for that.

Crystal: Yeah. Uh, I’m actually pretty curious about this because, uh, she’s on tons of podcasts, right. She’s on tons of news places and, and,

Tom: and doing a podcast is a lot of work.

Now, I’m sure she’s got a team in place

Crystal: Yeah.

Tom: To do the editing and stuff like that. But

Crystal: all she’s gotta do is sit down.

Tom: Yeah. But, uh, that’s a good deal if you can get it. That’s how I did it.

Crystal: Yeah.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: And it’s all with Vox Media. Yeah. That’s what you got. Hers is with Vox Media. So I’m thinking Vox Media is doing all that.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: Not Crystal Media.

Tom: She doesn’t know what she’s missing.

Crystal: Aw,

Tom: so Alex DuSant had his Peloton anniversary weekend. Uh, he celebrated that at the, in, at the, while he was at the NBA All Star weekend. We had an insider [00:27:00] there that kind of gave us, what was going on?

Crystal: You really are, I’m out of it

Tom: today. I dunno what the deal is.

Crystal: Not only did he have the All Star weekend, he also led a 5K. So there were several people that showed up for all the things. Um, it was held on February 14th, so on Valentine’s Day at the walk good yard. And like you said, we did have an insider there. It was. Michelle Brookman long time. I mean, og,

Speaker 3: right?

Crystal: Peloton, og, sweet, sweet person. She’s been a listener for many, many years and she’s been a Alex fan for, uh, more the years than she’s listened to the podcast because we didn’t exist. And, uh,

Tom: it’s hard to imagine a time when the club out didn’t exist.

Crystal: Yeah, it’s coming up on nine years for that. Yeah.

So so she said that there was an NBA legend and former La Laker, Robert Hari, H-O-R-R-Y. Okay. I hope I’m saying that correctly. He’s also known as Big Shot Rob. So he came on stage and joined. [00:28:00] The conversation. He shared stories about his wife constantly writing with Alex, and every time he walks in the room, he hears Alex’s sexy voice thinking not again with that guy.

Uh, and then there was, uh, the 5K. So he did a warmup first that had jumps, high knees, butt kicks, and then there were three different pace groups that did a three mile run, jog or walk. And then when you got back, there were drinks and a food truck with burgers. And then it says, we sang to Alex while another NBA All-Star Dominique Wilkins showed up to present Alex with his cake.

We took a group photo and I put myself right next to a Alex, but I haven’t seen that. Photo posted anywhere yet.

Give it time, Michelle.

Speaker 3: Yeah.

Crystal: Uh, it was Alex’s very first ride 10 years ago that, uh, she, she was at. That ride. Oh, wow. Michelle Brookman was there the day that he did his first ride. Now those days were very different [00:29:00] 10 years ago. Yes. And what a special day that must have been. So,

Tom: especially in hindsight.

Crystal: Yes. Yeah. Yes. What, what has changed since then? So, congrats to Michelle. Congrats to Alex, and it’s wonderful to be able to share these stories with each other.

Tom: Uh, Nico Serani has been detailing her visa. Purgatory like status?

Crystal: Yes.

Tom: Over the past month? Yeah. Months.

Crystal: Yeah.

Tom: It’s been a minute.

Crystal: She was supposed to be back in January.

Tom: Yeah, at the

Crystal: very beginning of January.

Tom: And she’s been stranded.

Crystal: She

Tom: has outside of the country and she thinks perhaps maybe

Crystal: she doesn’t wanna jinx it, but she’s thinking

Tom: there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

Crystal: So we may be seeing Nico back. On the mat very, very soon.

Tom: Yeah. So fingers crossed for her.

That’s just what a nightmare.

Crystal: What a nightmare indeed.

Tom: And what a pointless nightmare. So Suzy Chan. Is hosting the fireside chat.

Crystal: She is. Gosh, I wish I could just hop over the pond. How cool [00:30:00] would that be? Uh, she’s going to be there, uh, February 22nd. So this Sunday, and it will be, it’s a free event for members or non-members.

You get to not only meet Susie, but you get to discuss all things running. It’s gonna be an event that’s moderated by Sophie, Robert now Sophie. One of Susie’s good friends, they go running together all the time, but Sophie is also a journalist and, uh, she is going to be celebrating the release of Trails and Tribulations in paperback, so they’re okay.

Isn’t that cool?

Speaker 3: Yeah.

Crystal: They don’t all make it to paperback, so that’s that’s true. That’s really exciting. And, uh, they are going to be doing a q and a. You are able to purchase the paperback copy there, and of course you’re gonna be able to get a photo as well.

Tom: over@theclubout.com, we have an article, uh, something we’re doing just talking about hidden gems, maybe things that have snuck by you in the world of Peloton.

And the first in that. Ongoing series of indeterminate length spotlights, [00:31:00] Charlotte Weidenbach,

Crystal: and I’m really excited about this. Uh, this is gonna be a really fun series. All of us, uh, helper bees and, and Tipsters, were all really excited about it because, uh, we were able to find out a lot about Charlotte.

Mm-hmm. Uh, I know that a lot of people associate her with metal rides, and you should. You absolutely should. Yeah. And there are a lot of people that also associate her with Power Zone.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: But she does more than that. And that’s the part that she’s

Tom: not a two trick pony.

Crystal: She’s not, she’s not, uh, she not only does the metal and the power zone.

She loves to do house, she loves to do trance. There are all kinds of music that she loves to do, but one of the coolest things that people overlook about Charlotte is that she’s a doctor. Like a legit doctor. Yeah. And what it, why does that matter? Because she takes that knowledge and puts it into her programming.

And off the bike on her Instagram. This is a person that you really should be following on Instagram [00:32:00] because, uh, she does, she’s not hawking a bunch of stuff, like she’s not selling things right. Her whole persona is to give you information and it’s like super actionable advice that anybody can use. And she’s also like.

She brings it from this very human side too. You know, some doctors talk to you and they’re like, they just use jargon, right? That’s not what this is. Like, this is Charlotte telling you in a very approachable way how you can do things that in, in a way that’s going to help yourself, but also is easy to do.

Like, it. It’s, it’s something you can bring into your life. So do not, do not skip Charlotte.

Tom: That article is over@theclub.com, or if you’ve signed up for the newsletter, you will most likely, well, I don’t know, we’re in Oklahoma City this weekend, but, uh, most likely get an email with that information.

Fingers crossed, but no promises.

Tom: The latest artist series features Tyler the creator.

Crystal: It [00:33:00] does, yeah. And he, he has a bunch of classes, so some things you might wanna know about Tyler the Creator. Okay. He is a two time Grammy War Award winner for the best rap album.

And that was for. Igor in 2020 and call me if you get lost in 2022. He directs most of his own music videos under the pseudonym Wolf Haley. I think that’s fascinating.

Tom: Okay.

Crystal: He also has his own fashion brand called Golf Wang and the annual Camp Flog Na Carnival Music Festival. I am fascinated by this, this, I mean, that’s just a lot for one person to do.

Yeah. Like that’s, like, that’s a whole,

Tom: he’s a big

Crystal: deal. Empire man

Tom: and event reserves. He kind of came to light because he kind of put together his own street festival.

Crystal: That is his festival

Tom: that I just said, got the, that got the attention of record labels because all of a sudden. Like thousands, tens of thousands of people were showing up for this thing and people, and finally,

Crystal: and he did it all like [00:34:00] under the radar.

Tom: Right. And in all

Crystal: grassroots,

Tom: just like what is happening over here? So

Crystal: much respect for somebody. They can do that. That is not easy. No, that is not easy to put your own stuff together and like with no financial support and like, I’m not saying he didn’t have financial support, but like Yeah. Big investors.

Tom: Right.

Crystal: Not BMI, standing over him handing him money, is what I mean.

Tom: Yes. Yeah. It’s one thing when like yeah, a big giant corporation decides they’re gonna do an event and they can throw a bunch of money at it. That ain’t how this started,

Crystal: so. Right. Exactly. Yeah. That’s really cool. But there’s gonna be a run with Marcel Dinkins, a Row with Adrian, full Body Strength with Jermaine.

Uh, there’s gonna be, uh, Pilates with Johanna and a ride with Allie.

Tom: Coming up after this, we’ve got content. We’re gonna give you all the, uh, classes that should be on your list of things to do. You’ll be overwhelmed with options soon. Stick around, won’t you?

Tom: it is time for the TCO top [00:35:00] five. You’ve told us your five favorite classes, and now we say them too. Number one, your favorite. Top five snack size ride.

Crystal: I got creative.

Tom: I see that

Crystal: this is what happens when I have no sleep. And I am, I am tasked with writing the, the top five I see that I got, I got a little crazy.

Speaker 3: Yeah.

Crystal: Okay. But it is snacks size. It’s only 15 minutes. And it was taught by Ben Aldis and this is going back a little bit, October 27th of 25.

And like I said, house ride. Dark Peloton nominated this and said that Ride had no business being that fun. At 2 48 on a Saturday afternoon, Ben really said, let’s make this house a home. And I moved in.

Tom: Well, now

Crystal: I love dark Pelotons reviews. They always make me laugh.

Tom: Uh, number two, your favorite top five.

Hit run.

Crystal: Okay, so this was taught by Bex Gentry on [00:36:00] Valentine’s Day, 60 minutes of hit. Uh, Chandra Mo Milroy recommended this, and she said this class was incredibly well structured, like a great track session. I love the combination of speed intervals and incline. It was the perfect speed workout and is always Beck’s delivered.

An exceptional experience, a tough, productive run, paired with great music, all while seamlessly giving shoutouts for birthdays and milestones. And that is. Also known that is from Chandra Runs New York.

Tom: Number three, your favorite. Top Five Theme Ride.

Crystal: Okay, so lots of people nominated this. It was the 45 Minute Sold Out Show, born to Run, and it was taught by Jen Sherman on the 15th.

Yes, it’s called Sold Out Show. And for those of you who don’t know how to read an article, that doesn’t mean that they were selling tickets. Good Lord. Um. For those of you in the know though, how much fun was this? It was the 50th anniversary of Bruce Springsteen’s born to run album and she played the [00:37:00] entire thing in 45 minutes back to back seamlessly.

She also gave a shout out to DJ John Michael, who found custom mixes. These were all live recordings. Yeah, and he custom mixed it class plan matched seamlessly. It was beautiful.

Tom: He would have to, if you wanna do like 10. Bruce Springsteen live cuts and get it done in 45 minutes.

Crystal: Yeah, it was, uh, yeah. And, uh, I had, I did not know most of the music.

I thought I would because I consider myself. A Springsteen fan, not a super fan.

Tom: Right.

Crystal: But a fan and whoops. Turns out I don’t know much on this album. I think I came in afterwards.

Tom: Yeah. Because this is a huge album. Not as huge as born of the USA. Right. That’s the one new you’ll probably know. That is the one, almost every song.

Crystal: This was made in the seventies, so I don’t feel so bad for not knowing it because I wasn’t born until the end.

Tom: Well, they did continue to make copies of it during the

Crystal: eighties. Yes, I

Tom: know. Nineties. Two thousands.

Crystal: I only knew two songs on it. Thunder Road, which I only know because of you [00:38:00] And Born to Run.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: The rest of them. I had heard Jungle Land before. I had never heard it that long.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: I don’t, I I think I probably glazed over in the car. It is a beautiful song. Yeah, it is. Very But it’s a long one. It is a long one,

Tom: eight and a half minutes.

Crystal: And it wrapped the ride. Wrapped up with that. Yeah. But it was cool the way she did it because she mixed in the like a climb during the slower parts of the song.

Yeah. And then speed intervals during the faster parts of the song. Gotcha. I never gave the quote, sorry. Kevin McKinney said The energy in the room, Jen’s emotion. It was not Jen’s men level energy, but it was up there. I haven’t sustained that level of output on a ride in a while. It was really cool to see hundreds of people that I know on the leaderboard.

High fives were exchanged nonstop. It was, it was fun.

Tom: Uh, number four, your favorite hip hop ride.

Crystal: This was another snack size, 20 minute nineties hip hop ride that was taught by Hannah Frankston on February 7th. Courtney Fields nominated this class and said the playlist. Playlist was absolutely amazing.

The best part was that Hannah kept pointing out how hip hop, [00:39:00] especially from the nineties, is not a genre she’s familiar with, and that she just sort of put the playlist together with little thought or knowledge. It ended up being such a good playlist. I did the class two days in a row. Thank you for sharing that, Courtney.

That’s awesome.

Tom: And then finally, number five. You are Unst stackable.

Crystal: Well, this was the Unst stackable by a long shot, uh, because it was 120 minute power zone endurance ride. It was taught by Christian and Matt on Valentine’s Day to celebrate their bromance. It was also nominated by several people. My favorite though was Betsy Arn, who said it was hysterical and a great workout.

The energy between Matt and Christian was so fun and I laughed out loud several times. The ride structure was a pyramid of zone three efforts from 10 to 20 minutes with zone two efforts in between. It had a great playlist of songs all suggested by writers, and the time flew by. My favorite part though was that Matt gave Christian a bunch of bananas and Christian gave Matt a green [00:40:00] wig.

And they read Valentine’s to each other, like, it sounds like a really special ride. So, uh, I didn’t get to take it, but I think that that’s, that’s a lot of fun and I love that they made it, they made two hours really, really fun and special. Right. Uh, I also saw that Christian on his Instagram posted the aftermath, which was them cleaning the studio.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: Two hours of people like Christian Vanderbilt. Yeah. And, uh, Matt Wilber sweating like it was a lake in there. Yeah. Like it was, it was gross, but like

Tom: the banana peels were floating.

Crystal: I mean, hats off people that do the behind the scenes work at Peloton do not get enough credit. Yeah. Especially cleaning up our disgusting sweat.

Yeah. So hats off to you crew, because that was a lot of work.

Tom: Taking a look at this week at Peloton, we have new focus flow for runners.

Crystal: We do, which I love. These, these are so good. They really get into all of the, the deep parts that you don’t pay attention to as often as you should. [00:41:00] This, uh, there’s gonna be one that’s taught by Dennis that’s gonna be dropping on Saturday, and then there’s going to be one that’s 30 minutes long taught by Zacharias that’s gonna be dropping on Sunday.

Tom: Logan has a Power 60 strength.

Crystal: He does. It arrived this Tuesday on demand and, uh, 60 minutes of power strength. Woo. That was a lot.

Tom: Samo has 60 minutes of your eighties favorites?

Crystal: This is a treat like Sam, eighties and 60 minutes. Yeah, that’s, that’s a treat. That’s a real treat. I, I, I might have to, I don’t know if I can do 60 minutes on the bike.

I haven’t done that in a long time, but I just might have to.

Tom: Will you also have a 90 minute long run?

Crystal: Yes. Uh, this is going to be dropping on the 19th. By the way. The Sam yo class will be dropping on Friday, so when you hear this, he’ll be dropping that day. Uh, feel, listen, the first day, uh, 90 minutes with Mariana is gonna be dropping on Thursday, so it’ll be out by the time you hear this.

And I love [00:42:00] these long runs. I, I hope, I’m pretty sure that in 90 minutes is in person, so that’s really cool too.

Tom: Taking a look at the TCO Radar. We’ve got a 30 minute sprint interval training ride with Christine DeLee.

Crystal: Yeah. And it, it was this Monday, so it’s gonna be out by the time you hear this. Really excited to see. These come more of these rides coming out. Mm-hmm. Um, hoping that they’re going to incorporate those runs.

Right now there’s nothing on the schedule for the sprint interval training runs yet, but we’ve had the one, let’s hope for more.

Tom: And, uh, celebrating Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the lunar New Year. Gets a class?

Crystal: Yes. Well, there’s actually several classes. There’s a 20 minute ride with Sam, a 20 minute walk with Susie, a 30 minute ride with Emma, and then there’s some classes on demand.

There’s a yoga flow with Greta, a row with Katie, and a core strength with Katie as well. Not to mention, I don’t see it in here, but there was a a two for one. That was really, uh, part of the outdoor runs. [00:43:00] Maybe we’re talking about that later. So sorry if I’m crossing, but it was Lunar New Year and it was Sam and Susie leading the outdoor run in London.

I thought that was really cool. Oh, okay. And that’s happening tonight, so that’s really neat.

Tom: And uh, we spoke earlier of Charlotte Weidenbach and she has a 60 minute power zone ride coming up for people.

Crystal: She does, yeah. 60 minutes of power Zone. And with Charlotte’s, you’re gonna get an awesome playlist.

You’re gonna get somebody who knows how to teach you a power zone class, and it’s all 2000. So it’s gonna be a lot of fun.

Tom: February is Black History Month, and Kristen and Tunde have a BHM two for one for people.

Crystal: Yeah. People are excited about this for a couple of reasons. One. It’s Tunde and Kirsten together.

Tom: Yeah,

Crystal: first time we’ve had that pair up, but also it’s gonna be Kirsten’s first time on the bike at Peloton. Now, before she joined Peloton, she was a spin instructor.

Okay. In fact, when she joined Peloton, she wanted to be a spin instructor and they offered her running and she was like, I. I [00:44:00] don’t know about this. But of course she

Tom: cooler heads prevailed.

Crystal: Absolutely. Yeah. She embraced the running. She has become quite the runner and uh, and enjoys it. But it is gonna be really cool to see her back in her first love cycling and with Tunde.

That’s a very special class.

Tom: Also, Ash Pryor has a class spotlighting black country music.

Crystal: Yeah, this was a row that happened this week and, the playlist was all black country artists. But it was really cool to see her spotlight it. And she still did it with like the ash flare, right? You know, so she picked songs she liked from the country genre.

There’s not as many country artists who are black as there’s. It would be nice to see. Yeah. And it was really cool to see these highlighted. No, she did not go back to Charlie Pride days, nor should she have. Yeah, I don’t think that’s her kind of music.

Tom: Yeah.

Crystal: It’s not my kind of music.

Tom: And I mean, that’s a very old timey kind of country music.

That’s

Crystal: what I mean. Yeah. Like, I don’t know. I like classic country and that’s a little too classic even for [00:45:00] me.

Tom: Yeah. I don’t know how well that era of music. Lends itself to fitness workouts.

Crystal: Agreed.

Tom: Call me crazy.

Crystal: She did have, uh, she had a Darius Rucker song on there. Wagon Wheel. Yeah. She also had a song from Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter, uh, I believe it was Jolene.

And, uh, there were lots of other artists in there as well. So I thought it was really cool because as far as I know, this is the first black country artist series we’ve ever had.

Tom: Oh, cool.

Crystal: Like during Black History Month where we were celebrating all black artists. So I thought that was really cool and unique.

Tom: We have new fit family classes for people

Crystal: and they’re in German.

Tom: Ooh,

Crystal: that’s new. Never had those before either.

Tom: How

Crystal: about that? So that’s really fun. They dropped a ton of Fit family classes recently. So that’s cool to just see the collection expanding in general. But it’s also really cool to see so many German classes that are dropping as well.

So very fun. And,

Tom: uh, finally for the content segment anyway, we have [00:46:00] new percentage hikes.

Crystal: We do three new percentage hikes dropped. And from what we can tell the recent tempo seems to be three or four classes every month. So if those are your thing, keep an eye out for those as well.

Tom: And we have one birthday this week. It belongs to DJ John Michael on February 24th.

Crystal: Happy birthday to DJ John Michael.

Tom: Happy birthday. So that brings us episode to a close. Until next time, where can people find you?

Crystal: People can find me on Facebook at facebook.com/crystal. Do keefe. They can find me on Blue Sky Threads, Instagram and the Peloton leaderboard.
