Well, welcome to the Clip Out podcast, episode 4 36. This is Crystal O’Keefe, and this is Tom O’Keefe. My timer’s not working. I know. Every week we gotta wait for you to get it together. I always say, are you right? You should just start then. Like I was hit the button. That’s why this classifies under my timer’s now working.

I was hitting the button and then I hit the [00:01:00] button, and then it and then it had started, but between the time and started, I thought it hadn’t started. So I hit the button again and then I stopped it. Oh my God. I don’t even care anymore. I am in a mood. I see that. I I feel like the mood I’m in is more suited for a bonus episode.

Oh, goodness. So I don’t know what these people are getting today. Goodness. Yeah. Well if, you like it, you can get even more of it. For $5 a month over, I’m feeling very honest. Ooh and blunt. That’s, I’m feeling very blunt, very Leave it all on the table. Yeah, that’s either really good or really bad.

I don’t know. And we, yeah, there’s lots of stupid people. Lots of ’em. You’ll leave it all on a table. And I’m gonna say this right now. We have a very large table and we’re recording that. We acquired this table at a thrift shop. It’s a kitchen table. It’s an old school [00:02:00] kitchen table with like, it’s a real wood table.

It’s an honest to god wood table. It’s not particle board with a wood laminate like we drilled into it to put our mic stands into it, and it’s like it’s, this is from the seventies. Yeah. Back when they made real furniture. Yeah, we got it still smelled like Marlboro lights. There’s no light. Nobody used a Marlboro Light and reruns of Hawaii 5.0.

That’s what it smelled like. And it’s just, it’s very, I like it though. I do too. Yeah. And it’s perfect for podcasting. Yeah. And I’m glad that we didn’t buy something new, you know? Oh, for sure. So like it didn’t, need all of that. We had it for like $75 or something. Yeah. It was a great deal.

And we have two leaves in it. And there are like two more. Yeah. Somewhere. This is made for like, good old fashioned, 1970s Eric. Everybody came to Thanksgiving dinner table cast like family back when you had 18 siblings, right? Yeah. [00:03:00] Yeah. It’s a, hell of a table. So anyway. See, it’s more like a bonus.

Yeah. What pray tell do you have in store for people this week? Well, let’s see. We’re gonna talk about this interview that Peter Stern did. Okay. And we’re gonna get into all the things he has to say about Peloton. We are also gonna talk about Pelotons New Event Hub. In other words, what we’ve been doing for 10 years now, they finally made That’s right.

I said it. See, it’s a bonus. I’m fired up, feisty. I need one of those little soundboards, like more like, like wacky morning shows used to have. But I mean, come on. Why did it take 10 years Peloton? Seriously, and every time, seriously, time you say something, I’ll play a little. Cat sound effect.

10 years, technically [00:04:00] 11.

And an aga horn for, when I say one of my jokes that people hate,

Waka Fozzy Bear, a WAC Plus runs are now gonna be a Waka plus walk run. They’re gonna be treated as runs. Okay. Which really pisses me off, and I’ll explain why. I’ve got a whole thing. Okay. Okay. And then watch out Garmin users because you thought some of your problems were solved, but not really.

No. It made more problems. See what I mean? Yeah. Like everything’s negative this week. I hear that. We’ve got member feedback on this year’s Halloween classes and some of it’s really shitty and honestly. Deservedly. So I, we’ll get there and I we’ll talk about it. We’ll get there. I feel like normally people, when I say something that upsets people, they reach out to you.

It’s so true, I feel, which is great. Keep up the [00:05:00] good work listeners. But I feel like this week people are gonna reach out and be like, Tom, are you okay? Is it safe there? We’re gonna, so Dr. Mary Claire Haver is a very famous doctor who is also a menopause advocate and has become a menopause influencer.

Right. Okay. Well, she is, she’s done a review on Pelotons new menopause content. She’s got things to say. Oh, okay. Peloton is hiring a talent casting manager. Interesting. I reached out to a casting manager, they had things to say. Okay. And we’ll get into all of that. Plus we have tons of instructor news.

People are getting married. Multiple instructors married not to each other? No. This time, not this time. We also have a little fun that happened on the tread between Becks Gentry and Alex k we’re gonna talk about that, not to [00:06:00] mention Jocelyn Thompson rule having quite the week. And we will talk about all the places that she’s featured.

We’ve got new artist series to talk about. Oh, yeah. Well ladder, oh, guys. Y I’m gonna take all of my bitchiness and we’re gonna put it right there. Right there. And I have more to say over in bonus about Jennifer Jacobs. So like, there’s just a lot of bitchy happening this week. Goodness. And then we have tons of content to talk about.

There’s lots of new stuff. Peloton is adding lots of fun things that we can talk about as well. Okay, well, before we get to all that shameless wait. Oh, I’m just kidding. Go ahead. No, I’m waiting. No shameless plugs. Don’t forget, we’re available on Apple Podcast, Spotify, iHeart. Tune in wherever you find a podcast.

You can find us. While you are there, be short and follow us. You’re never miss an episode. Maybe leave us a review. That is super helpful. If you cannot get enough of us or. If Crystal’s bitchiness is just not bitchy enough, [00:07:00] there is the patreon patreon.com/the clip out. Five bucks a month, you get ad free episodes, you get early episodes and you get bonus episodes of which there are quite a few at this point.

There are, yeah. And by the way, somebody on the Patreon feed Yeah. Said that I am in my We do Not Care era. Yes. And I kind of have to agree I am there. Yeah. It’s a thing. It’s a thing. And and you get to hear all the things. Okay. So this week we will have an update on Camilla Ramone’s fashion Nightmare.

It has, it’s crazy. Yeah. It has a happy ending nightmare. It does have a happy ending. But we’ll talk about that. It went viral. Yeah, it went viral. Oh, did it? Yeah. Oh, interesting. So we’ll talk about that over on the bonus. We will also talk about the downside of fitness apps. There’s a downside.

Yeah. Okay. According to the article you added, oh I think, Helper Be Nikki added it. Okay. And I just pasted. Okay.[00:08:00]

And then which instructor has a new music video? That’s true. So you can get all of that over at the Patreon. You can also find us on Facebook, facebook.com/the clip out. While you’re there, like the page, join the group. And then what else? Oh, we have YouTube, youtube.com/clip out. And then finally, lots of links and stuff coming at you.

You can sign up form, get ’em delivered right to your inbox@theclipout.com, mostly weekly. So there’s all that. Brace yourself. And let’s dig in. Shall we? We shall.

436 with audio: Peter Stern did an interview this week with the Financial Post.

It is titled Peloton Bets People will invest in themselves. Yeah. So a lot of it, a lot of this conversation was talking [00:09:00] about the restructure and the refocus and honestly the relaunch of all of their products. They say that they stern says he is the, they right that Peloton is aiming to build a foundation for growth by improving its operations rather than just chasing rapid expansion.

And that we want rapid expansion. Anyway, that’s what I hear. Well I will say back in the Barry days, yeah. Which not my favorite person, the man had the personality of like, of Barry of. Of a grumpy porcupine. But I will say this he did, very much focus on like, we need to stabilize before we grow nuts and bolts.

And then when we stabilize, we start to grow and it’ll be slow. Well, they’re saying they’re going from pure growth to profitability and better long start, long-term sustainability. And it’s the same damn thing. Right. It’s the same thing, guys. It’s [00:10:00] just different buzzwords and, a different CEO saying it, right?

Like it’s the same thing. Yeah. You know but, the, country, the world has a memory of a fucking ant. So not really shocking that nobody remembers that, Barry did that. So That’s fair. Yeah. So that, that’s not new. Right. Okay. They also talk about how memberships are gonna remain core to VA pelotons value proposition, not proposition.

And the recurring revenue. Is the, that’s the key. That’s the heart of that. Right? Right. And they said that they are investing in content and instructor led classes to boost engagement and retention. So not new. Like, I, like they’ve always invest. Like I don’t even understand the point of that.

Like yeah, I would like to understand the context in which that came up. Like maybe because there’s been a lot of people talking about [00:11:00] how AI is gonna take over because you use the word AI and so many idiots just assume that means that like, oh, the oh Nore gonna have in instructor to teach our classes now.

You know? Like that seems to be, there’s just a’s a certain type of person that, as some, that makes that assumption. All the classes will now be read led by a CGI bunny. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. Now the, there was a lot of conversation about the cost of the, that like, you’re gonna have all this new hardware.

And the only way to get every single one of the new features is to upgrade. And Stern’s like, well, the hardware is an entry point and the services and experience are what drive the deeper value. And I would agree with that. But I’m not sure that most people, other than people that have had their bikes for a really long time or something breaks and they no longer have a warranty. In other words, if it’s time to upgrade because it’s broken. Right. That seems to be [00:12:00] where most people are. Yeah. Or maybe not broken, but just you haven’t upgraded since you got it. Right. You know, but people that already upgraded to a bike plus or you know, have no issues whatsoever and a guide that.

It still works, right? It’s meaning it’s not getting new information, but it’s still getting new content. Right? Like why? Why? Yeah. Why do you need that? You don’t need it. Like for most people, you don’t need it if you already have a Peloton. If you have Peloton equipment, right? I will also say the people who are getting it seem happy with it.

Yeah. Like, they’re not like, this is a piece of shit. Right. You know? But also it’s like I get the frustration, but also what’s the solution? Never upgrade your equipment. Stop selling equipment for 18 months so nobody gets their feelings. Heard. The same people who think it’s gonna be taught by an AI bunny are the same people who are like, you should gimme every change of memory.

Like it’s, so much, it’s so much. And my apologies for whining like that’s how I hear people. But recently I took a class [00:13:00] where there was a lot of whining and we’ll get into that later. And, I couldn’t do it. I could not, even finish it. So my apologies, like, I know how irritating that woe is.

Me sound is, but that’s what I hear in my head. But you’ll be doing the whole episode in that voice. No, I will not. Because that’s wrong. So he also talked about like, hey, this is a, really shitty time economically and consumer spending wise, and that Peloton is gonna focus, continue to focus on cost control and optimizing operations.

And that basically the message to investors is Peloton is shifting from growth at all costs to profitable growth and sustaining business model. Again, I say it’s been doing that for like five years now. Yeah. But okay. Shift away. You know, like, I, this is not new. This is not new. People can say it’s new, but it’s not new.

Yeah. This is the same shit we’ve been hearing since Barry started. But whatevs. So [00:14:00] any, takeaways I missed? Anything that you, you feel like I didn’t get? No. Like this doesn’t really, this feels like kind of a nothing burger. Like, I mean, I get that he’s gotta go out and give these interviews and it’s, but does he?

Yeah. Does he? Because, like, he really hasn’t done a lot. Yeah. And he’s new and Barry never did any That’s fair. So like, but love what happened to him. Well, that’s true. That was a good point. That was a good point. But like, is the financial post even a thing? I don’t know. I don’t really know anything about it.

You know? You know how I love the tech bros. Yeah. I also, and it’s always filled with those people. I will also say, based on all the, like how many like weird flashing ads are on their website. I’m just, oh yeah. I couldn’t even, I couldn’t even read their web. Like I tried reading it and I literally could not get the website to work because it’s such a piece of shit and I couldn’t figure out which was the actual video of the interview.

’cause they had so many weird things on the, it was the, you know who it reminds me of? Yeah. I’ll [00:15:00] leave it at that. But but yeah, so I was just like, this website is so junky. Like, I, yeah. When, you cram it full of like a bunch of ads and, then claim that you don’t rely on ads, it’s a real problem.

Yeah. And I this for all I know Financial post is like that. I don’t know. I don’t care. But moving right along, Peloton has launched an event. Hub. Yeah. So basically everything that’s happening with the instructors can all be found in one place. How about that? Huh? That’s cute. Yeah. I’m only somebody to come up with that idea.

I don’t know. Back in 2017. Yeah. That’s cute. It’s cute. But now there’s a place you can go and you can see all the things. I will say this there are, there are going to be consistently a lot more appearances by the instructors because that’s their new thing. ’cause they’re not doing homecoming slash HRI anymore slash World tour.

Right? Yeah. None of that’s, none of that’s happening. So what they’re doing is sending the instructors out. So you’re gonna see [00:16:00] them in a lot more places, like at marathons or rowing events or going to different locations, things like that. You’re, gonna see them a lot more, which is cool. Yeah. I mean, there’s a lot of people that can’t afford to travel to New York, so For sure.

No, I mean, honestly, this is another thing that we’ve been saying for years. We have like, why aren’t you sending all these people out and treating them like the brand ambassadors that they are. Remember when they started opening all those stores and there were Peloton instructors at all of the store openings?

Yeah. Like that was cool. Yeah, that was fun. Yeah. Yeah. Then, and then, but they should have sent instructors to all the store closings. They couldn’t afford it. Yeah. So Walk plus runs will now be treated as runs. Yeah. Yeah. Is this the Peloton equivalent of a participation trophy? No it’s, kind of worse.

Okay. Because here’s the deal. He’s a run guy. Walk Plus run is 50% walking, 50% running. Okay. Now I remember Dr. Jen and I like [00:17:00] getting as close to a fight as Dr. Jen and I get into Ooh. Over. People are like, that’s why she hasn’t been on it a while. No, this was a long time ago. But like when we were training for Big Sur she was like so adamant that we take Walk plus runs and I refuse to because I wanted to get to a thousand runs. Okay. Okay. When you take a walk plus run, when you took a walk plus run, it only counted in your walks even though you ran half the time. Yeah. Now why does that piss me off? I will tell you why that pisses me off because you, there are so many interval classes that you take that are runs that tell you to walk.

Why are those counted as runs, right? It’s inconsistent. Yeah. And the inconsistency has always driven me nuts. Well, con consistency is key. Only a few will get that. So I, like, I refuse to take them, not because [00:18:00] they’re not helpful. They’re incredibly helpful. Yeah, they are. Especially like when you’re training for something, you’re working on your endurance.

You’re just getting started and running. Like there’s a million reasons why to use these. So they need to count it as 0.5. And then you get half of a walk and half of a run. Genuinely they do. So now I get the worst of both worlds because all of the Walk plus runs that I did. Yeah. They’re over in walk.

They didn’t move to run, but now going forward. Anybody who takes a walk plus run all the same work that I have already done gets included as a run. Now if they had just moved them over though, wouldn’t you be upset? ’cause you would I would. It would screw up your milestone pacing. Yeah. They should have just left it the hell alone.

Yeah. Like I, I had come to terms with it. Everybody else need to come to terms with it. Right. Why do, we need to change it at all? Yeah. I don’t understand. Unless it’s like preparing for something else, which is possible. They do that. They’re always jacking with stuff. Yeah. So like, that’s totally possible.

I would like to know that. And I [00:19:00] know that it’s not that big of a deal, but like, the thing is that I am an old school Peloton class taker. And what I mean by that is I am of the opinion that, especially if you’re training for something. Okay. Small classes don’t count. So like I’m not gonna stack a bunch of 10 minute runs, no shade to those who do.

Right. But a run less than 30 minutes, I don’t count as a real run. Okay. And really my cutoff. And when I was training for like an endurance event. 45 minutes. Yeah. And I would stack together because they didn’t have any long classes at the time. I would stack together 45 minute after 45 minute because I’m the slowest person on the planet.

So what that is frustrating to me is that I still have not reached a thousand runs. Yeah. Yeah. And there are people that are like, it’s 7,000 runs ’cause they stack five minute classes together. Yeah. And now [00:20:00] the points really, now the club Peloton really pushes for that. Yeah. It used to be like, well really that’s just a, milestone in your own head.

Like who really cares. Right. You know where but now there is a, an incentive Yeah. To do that or, a disincentive if you did not do that. Well, not only that, but we started using the tonal back in 2018 or 2019, something like that. Yeah. 19 I believe. Okay. It was right before COVID. Okay. And, none of those counted for the longest time because Peloton didn’t have a way to just track just strength, right?

So, so like if you look at my profile, and I know this is stupid, I do, I realize that it means nothing to anybody other than me but, like I have been a Peloton member, but because I had the audacity to, use another fitness platform long before Peloton could track it, and when we would go on vacation, when I used Android, you couldn’t take any classes.

Yeah. Because they didn’t have it on the app. Like I feel like I’ve gotten kind of shit [00:21:00] on in every possible way. And so I’m only a champion as opposed to a legend. Right. But I’ve been around since 2017. 2016. 16. Yeah. So that really bothers me. Yeah. Because people who have been around a lot less time who don’t use other modalities or have always had access to just tracking things.

Right. And they have been able to get that. I also noticed this week that it only counts towards your points if it’s a Peloton class that you take. So for example, you, every time I take a just Strength class, it counts toward my total of strength classes. Cool. But you get two points for every Peloton class you take per day.

Okay. They don’t count if it’s a just strength off of tonal. That’s fair. Is it? Yeah. Okay. It’s called they Tony. It’s called Club Peloton then tell me that. Yeah. [00:22:00] In the rules. Yeah. It doesn’t say that it says any classes. Yeah. So like only instructor led classes, right? That’s what you’re telling me. Or it has to be, I don’t know, a scenic class. Like it just needs to be clearer. Yeah. But I get not giving you points for something that’s not within their platform. Why? You give people five minute points, like they get points, but you’re in their ecosystem, which is what they want. I’m hitting the button. Yeah. I’m still using it.

How is it not in their ecosystem? They’re still getting credit for me using their system every time I hit it. Yeah. And that’s all they want. That’s the whole reason they’re doing this, is to be able to say how engaged their members are. Right. Well then if I’m still giving you credit for that, why don’t I get credit for it?

All right. I’m done with that topic. I got plenty more to say. Okay. Classes synced via Garmin. Here’s the thing. Don’t count towards your streak. They don’t count towards your streak. So like, here’s the deal for people who have like two year [00:23:00] streaks, three year streaks, you. Again, no one tells you’re sinking your classes via your Garmin.

It’s a fucking Peloton class. Right. But you sinked it via Garmin doesn’t count towards your streak. So you could potentially lose a three, four, however many years streak just because you didn’t know that. Because no one bothered to tell you. Yeah. So I’m telling you. Yeah, because one of our members reached out and that is bullshit.

That would be very frustrating. Well, it’s no different than my points. It is very frustrating, Tom. I think that’s what you meant to say. No, I’m on the Garmin people side, but you know, yeah, they’re not gonna count a tonal towards a Peloton thing. I get it. Ah.

So, oh dear. Yeah, we go. Scared of jumping to the next one. I’m, not gonna be mean, I’m just I’m, sad. I’m sad about this. So the Halloween classes for the [00:24:00] year have started dropping and people feel a certain sort of way. A lot of the classes have gotten really great feedback. The, we’ll talk about it later, but the Jason Universe stuff.

Yeah. A lot of fun. There have been some classes though, that people have taken to social media to talk about the voices that the instructors used. And much as it pains me, Maddie was included in this. I love Maddie so much. I want nothing but good things for this man. Becks was also included, although I will also say last year was not my favorite Halloween class by Bes.

Now I haven’t taken this year’s. Yeah, because last year scared me. Like I don’t, wanna hear that ever again. Not like Halloween Scared. No, not like Eek. No. That was a fun jump scare, like you taught me to never take your classes that you do acting in again. Now Maddie’s was called Maddie Sads, and I’m not exactly sure.

It’s like a Adams family thing, which think it’s supposed to be an Adams [00:25:00] family thing. But he was sad. Yeah. But unfortunately it came off as a woe is me thing the entire time. Yeah. And, like I know it was a character. Right, right. The voice reminded me, and this is a a, deep cut, a old school reference, but it reminded me of from SNL in the early eighties.

Joe Piscopo and Robin Duke had characters called Doug and Wendy Whiner. Oof. And, the whole thing was that they whined about everything and they’re like, I can’t because of my diverticulitis. Okay. That’s exactly what the sounded like. And it, I was, ’cause I was instantly when I heard, it before I looked at it, I was like, is he doing like a Doug and Wendy Weiner reference?

I’m like, that is a deep SNL cut. Like, which I mean he could have been. Yeah. He is definitely, he loves his, pop culture. Sure. As you do. Yeah. So maybe [00:26:00] I don’t know. I, love Maddie. This was not a class for me. Yeah. It was not a class for me. I, it was a 30 minute class and I did not make it to the end.

I, yeah. Yeah. Okay. But in a more positive note. Lots of other really good classes. And that’s the only class. If, you’ve taught thousands of classes and you have one class that people have issue with. That’s fair. You know what, I think that’s a damn good record. You take big swings sometimes.

You do. Yeah. Yeah. Like I will also say it’s, you put yourself out there and it is tough to, you can’t please everyone. Also, you know, every year he is gotta come up with a new one, so that’s, and you gotta outdo yourself. Yeah. And he had a few other things going on. Yeah. He was literally getting married for sure.

So, yeah. I mean, this was recorded prior too, but like still you have all these things you’re thinking of. Yeah. And you’re not even in the right head space for [00:27:00] like, recording Halloween content. Right. And you gotta put yourself there because it’s summertime. Yeah. ’cause I think he recorded this back in July.

I thought that’s what you said. Yeah. Yeah. It was like all, kinds of things. That was his gaga ween, if you’re wondering. Okay. So Dr. Mary Claire. You say Mary Claire haver her. It is her Instagram just says Dr. Mary Claire. Yeah. That’s, so I dropped the haver because I support the patriarchy. Well, you shouldn’t because it’s stupid.

But she did a review of Pelotons new menopause content. She did. And, honestly, it was not necessarily negative. It was just like, okay, but you can get this anywhere, which is not wrong. Yeah. Like that, is true. You can but, I will also say this, many people don’t understand the subtleties of what they need to be changing up.

Like having days where you go really hard and having days where it’s really easy on [00:28:00] purpose. Yeah. And building that in. And making a point to do that, not just like, eh, today I don’t feel like it. Right? Not, like that, but like really carefully plotting out your workouts and making sure that you have lots of days where you’re getting, when you are going really hard, it’s also that you’re able to get your heart rate up sufficiently into kind of a, sit range or sprint interval training range. That is also important. Being able to lift heavy is also important. Yeah. And for, newbie. People who are just starting off with lifting, that does not include you.

Like, you can’t go from zero to 60. Right. You’re gonna hurt yourself For sure. So like, you gotta build up. Yeah. And, lifting weights of any kind is still good for you. So like never, listen to anyone who’s like, that’s not worth your time. Yeah. Like it’s, still a benefit and there’s no way you’re gonna get to the, where it’s quote unquote worth your time Yeah.

Without going through the not worth your time valley. And so that [00:29:00] makes it worth your time. Time your time. Yeah. Exactly. And, Dr. Mary Claire Haver didn’t say anything really negative. She was just like this is, good content. But again, you could get it anywhere. Like you can get this stuff from any place that offers workouts for sure.

Okay. But. On the flip side of that one, Peloton is a major force in the fitness world. Absolutely. So for them not to have it seems like a disservice. Absolutely. Also, a lot of people, because of things like Club Peloton, they don’t wanna go offsite to access stuff like this. I get why. Yeah. And especially women at a certain phase.

He said delicately, but so like, so it isn’t, so yeah, you can get, but yeah, you can also get people telling you how to ride a bike anywhere. I mean that’s, certainly true. You know, that is very true. I guess I’m just saying it’s not like the content is lacking. Yeah. Regardless, like, [00:30:00] exercise is exercise, right.

It’s all gonna be good for you. It’s how you program it together. Peloton. This is a step in the right direction to have this, but like, they still need, in my opinion, more structure around this is how you improve your fitness. Right? Whether it’s for women or men, or people training for a marathon or any of it it, need, they need more structure, more foundational structure across all modalities.

Yeah. That’s just my opinion.

436 with audio: Peloton is hiring a talent casting. Manager now, what is your first thought when you hear that? Does this mean we’re getting new instructors?

That was my first question. So I reached out to somebody who does casting for a living. And I think I know who I’m sure you do. I just don’t wanna put that out there. No, I totally get especially since I didn’t ask. Yeah. But and I reached out because, she and I chat on a pretty regular [00:31:00] basis.

Yeah. A few times a year. And I was just like, what is your take on this? And I need to get back with her actually. But anyway I. Her take was, this is not really for so much casting, it is more about managing the talent that’s already there. Okay. Like if you read through the actual description, there’s not much about casting.

Not to say that they never will. Right. Right. But right now the way that the job description reads is it’s more about coddling them. And I used that word she did not. And taking care of their needs. So. Gotcha. I thought that was interesting. That was kind of the way I read it, but I wanted a different opinion of somebody who actually works in that industry, which also makes sense because they’re not in a growth phase from hiring instructor standpoint.

So like, what would the real, like, it seems like if you’re looking to cast new instructors, that wouldn’t be a permanent [00:32:00] position, right? Like you would you, it seems like it makes more sense to contract someone for a short period of time. Give them what you want. They go out and find them.

Thank you. You pay them a fee and then they move on. Because it’s like you’re not constantly hiring new instructors. So what would they do once they hired those people? Absolutely. No. Also, the dollar amount that they make is not that great for New York City. I mean the instructors no, Oh, this person?

Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it was like the range was like 1 23 to 1 53, which is not nothing. No, but like in New York City, like that’s not. Crazy money. No, that’s probably middle class in, in, in where we live. That’s, really good money. That’s good money. That is really good money. Yeah. But yeah, if it’s really good money here, it’s like you’re getting by.

In other places. And [00:33:00] the other thing that I thought was interesting is that we never really had insight into why Cody was taking all his trips to London. I don’t, I still don’t think it was just because of his, that stupid tea time thing that he did. Yeah. So I, I think that, I still think that had to do with.

Training people or something. It had something to do with talent. Right now, Cody is for the bike, has for a very long time been the talent person to bring in people. So I also wonder what that means. Yeah. Like, does that mean he’s pivoting away from that and doing something else? Because for a long time people have been like, Cody’s not happy he’s gonna leave Peloton.

People have been saying that for, I’d like at least a year and a half now. And a lot of, whether that’s true or not, I think that to me this also indicates there could be a change with his position. Gotcha. Not necessarily that he’s [00:34:00] leaving Peloton. Right. It could be that but I don’t think that it’s so, because he just announced he signed a multi-year deal, like it’s not just announced.

That was over a year and a half ago and those contracts are only two years long. Oh, okay. So. I will say, you know we’re, edging towards a new contract cycle, but we’ve got at least till June. Right. Who the hell knows what’ll happen. Yeah. God, I hope we’re not on vacation again when it does.

Sorry, I’ll stop scheduling vacations for June. It was actually I just remember like getting that phone call at like three o’clock in the morning. Yeah. And it was like what, is happening? Well, and we, this first four problems, we were in Hawaii. Yeah, totally. So it was not three o’clock in the morning to them.

No. Just to be fair. But but yeah, so anyway, also I would think given the price range on this. Yeah, instructors are, instructor selection is like perhaps the most important decision now. That is a, at Peloton. A very good point. I can’t imagine entrusting that to someone who makes [00:35:00] $120,000 a year.

That’s a really good point, Tom. So that’s a really good point. Maybe they might pull people in as a first layer and then other people take it from there. Perhaps that could be, yeah, like the, scouting aspect of it, right. ’cause part of, it does say that like you’re supposed to be really in the social media world of fitness people so that you’re have the pulse of new up and coming people.

That’s part of what it reads. Gotcha. That’s part of what the description says. So maybe that’s like layer one. Dunno coming up after this, we got instructors in the news. We’re gonna talk about Maddie Omo getting married and who else is getting married this weekend. So stick around.

436 with audio: Sorry boys. Maddie Mamo is off the market, Congratulations to Maddie and Evan. They’ve been engaged for quite a while now. Evan took Maddie’s last name. Oh God. So they are now the Mamos, [00:36:00] those are his words. Oh yeah. Yeah. Just to be clear. Yeah. He put that on Instagram. Yeah. But it was a really very small intimate little ceremony, but it was in Central Park.

It was beautiful. All the fall colors and they were wearing suits that were in fall colors, and the photos were really stunning. Yeah. Interestingly, none of the instructors were there. I gotta think that’s part of the intimate setting. Like I, yeah. I think that Maddie purposely did not invite them.

Not in a shitty way. Right. But like in a, like, we wanna keep this small and purpose way. That was as. Strategic. Yes, exactly. The only Peloton employee that I saw there, and there’s lots that I don’t know, so I could have missed him. Sure. Was Travis who has a long, you’ve met him many times. Uhhuh.

Yeah. And very, long time friend of Maddie’s. Gotcha. Very long time friend. So it was nice to, it was nice to see familiar faces and [00:37:00] of course both families were there. It just looked like a really sweet ceremony. Yeah. So what, congrats, looked congrats. Like a normal people ceremony and Yes.

Very much congrats to both of them. Yes. They looked very happy and they’re off to Tokyo at the beginning of November for their honeymoon and they will be over there for a while. So hope they have a great time. I hope they get to do the the Mario cart through Oh my God. Through Tokyo Streets. I should message and ask if that’s on their list because if it is like, I want him to take a pair of those like meta glasses so he can record the whole thing.

Cool. ’cause I wanna watch it. Not sure if he’d fit in one of those things. That’s true. He’s pretty tall. Yeah. Katie Wong is getting married this weekend. She is. She is getting married and it, from what we can tell, it looks like it’s it could be like a Halloween wedding. Oh, okay. But it is, it’s happening this weekend regardless.

Yeah. Not sure if her honeymoon plans but I do know that she will not be back on the schedule until December, so. Gotcha. [00:38:00] Congrats to Katie. Did you ever go to a Halloween wedding? No, I haven’t. I went to one a girl I used to work with at the grocery store, got married on Halloween and they were very getting married on Halloween types.

Well, goth was big back then. Yes. Yeah. ’cause yeah, this would’ve been the nineties. Yeah. I actually, I, this was a period of time when I was working at the grocery store, but I also worked at the Point, which is the alt rock station, the market. I pulled some strings and for their. Wedding gift I got them. And this would’ve been a big deal to her.

I got I got them an autographed Marilyn Manson poster. Wow. For their wedding. Wow. That, see, you’re always taking care of people. You are very thoughtful. You really are. Like, that is a super thoughtful wedding gift. Yes. She was. Especially for somebody who loves to have a Halloween wedding Yeah.

And is goth like, that would be perfect. Yeah. I was like, oh, this is [00:39:00] perfect. And so, and Marilyn Manson back in the mid nineties, that was not easy to get. That was not an easy get back, in the nineties. You don’t even have anything signed by him. No, I do. You do? Yeah. I’ll have to go through the house.

Show me where this is. Yeah, it’s ’cause it’s it’s him and Alice Cooper who signed it. Oh, okay. I do know where that is. Yeah. Okay. Okay. Got it. So Becks Gentry and Alex k were had Instagram post this week, but using the treadmill with no metrics. Yeah. And the idea was to see. Like who could get the closest to a half mile without using any metrics.

Okay. So they covered up the little station at the bottom of the screen Right. With a post-it note or whatever. So they couldn’t see the metrics and and then they each ran for what they felt like was half a mile. And what it ended up being was be Gentry came in at 0.53 and Alex K came in at 0.50 on the dot.

’cause of course [00:40:00] he did. We got some real type A’s. That’s amazing. But they did not get Club Peloton points. Well, no because they hid their metrics. So they that, so I used to be able to do something like that when I worked. At this is not, oh, this is hitting the post? No. Oh, okay. But I can’t hit the post hitting.

The post is when the instrumental part of a song plays and then you talk over it like, Hey, it’s 1 0 5 seventh, the Point in St. Louis’s New Rock alternative coming up next hour, we got chances for you to win tickets to Pearl Jam. And then you stop talking like right when the vocals start. Right. That’s I can do that.

But when I worked at Pop’s, I would print out stacks of tickets. ’cause it’s the club is ga Oh yeah. Yeah. And so I would, when the show was going on, I’d print out in stacks like 50 or a hundred. I would walk by and they would hold up the stack to show me if it was, if I needed to get more tickets, go run upstairs and print out more tickets for ’em.

They could hold up a stack of tickets [00:41:00] and I would tell them how many tickets they were holding up in that stack. Yeah, that’s crazy. And it’s like, I got really good at that. I don’t know that I could do it anymore, but back in the day, they could hold up and I’d be like 27, it’s nine 15, you’re good. So just useless skills I have acquired.

I love it. So Jocelyn Thompson rule. Has added the, to the resin menopause collection. It’s not necessarily that she added to it, it’s that she was talking through how to use it. In other words, you know how earlier I was like, Peloton needs to be better about the foundation and how you grow things.

Yeah. This is what she did. Okay. She put together a slideshow that was like here is how you put the classes together for beginners. And those who are new to lifting. And then part two [00:42:00] is gonna be showing up later and it’s for more experience lifters. That is exactly the kind of feedback that I am talking about.

Yeah. She’s on it. And she always has been like, she’s always really good at explaining things to people and the why behind it. So. A very cool post. If you guys need it, it should be in our newsletter this week. Yes, there is a link in the newsletter, should I remember to send it out. Okay, cool.

Okay. And while we’re speaking of Jocelyn Thompson rule, she was featured in fit and well She was, yeah. And she said that she’s 47, it’s a great age. And that she does more recovery than she does training. She shared her exact weekly workout routine with people. Awesome. Yeah.

436 with audio: So we have two artist series announcement this week, but I guess this is just looking ahead towards the month of November. It is. Okay. It is. So both very big artists. That is very true. One, I’m super familiar with, one I’ve at [00:43:00] least heard of.

Well, that’s good. Yeah. I am so glad that you’ve at least heard of it. So Kelsey Ballerini. Yeah. For the younger sorts. Yes. And for the middle aged sorts. The who? The who. Yeah. Yeah. I think these are both gonna be really good. The interesting thing is, a couple of things. One, Peloton is gonna be closed opposite week.

So like one week is gonna be closed in New York, one is gonna be closed in London. And there’s only two artist series coming up in November that have been announced, and it’s these two. Usually we get one a week. Okay. Not sure if that’s because they’re gonna be closed or if they’ll be dropping later.

And then like doing one Thanksgiving week Yeah. With the Turkey burn probably doesn’t make a lot of sense. That’s true. So, yeah, that’s very true. So yeah. But I, it’s just kind of interesting. They, it’s interesting that Peloton isn’t like, Hey, since we’re closed, this is what we’re gonna do this month.

Right. But I mean, that’s just what they do. Yeah, for sure. Or don’t do. But anyway, for those, there’s a lot of people I saw that were excited about Kelsey Ballerini. Yeah. And tons of [00:44:00] people are excited about Of course. The who. Yeah. Those will have to be like 45 minute classes. ’cause their songs are long.

Yeah. They won’t be, they won’t be.

436 with audio: So Ladder has announced their nutrition program, but apparently it’s entirely AI and it’s really dumb. Yeah. Yeah. That’s, that sums it up. Okay. I don’t know if it’s entirely ar, ai or not, to be fair.

I just happened to see a very long and vitriolic post over on the Reddit. But people had the receipts and they were showing that like if you say that you wanna lose weight people and that you exercise, this is including, you already exercise six times a week. People’s calorie counts were coming in 700 calories for a person who was five one because they’re short.

Wow. Yeah. Yeah. That’s [00:45:00] dangerous. It is dangerous. Yeah. It is. Jennifer Jacobs, maybe not the best fitness platform in the world. Yeah. Just throwing that out there. And that’s, I mean, I, there were multiple people that reported that they got under a thousand calories. I just wanna point that out.

Yeah. Now there were other people that said, well, if you tell it that you’re looking to gain, or you’re looking to build muscle, it’ll give you like a regular, like 2000 calories. Oh. It’s your own fault for not asking the hyper-specific correct question because you, don’t know what you need.

But actually not really, because if you’re looking to lose weight, that is a, that’s a valid request. Yeah. Looking to lose weight and to, no one should ever be eating 700 calories. Yeah. No one should be eating less than 1200 calories. For, just about anybody. I mean, you might have some special outline circumstances.

I did a weight loss study like 25 years ago and I [00:46:00] did it through Washington University, which is very reputable. And at one point they had me at like 900 calories, but I was keeping a food diary. I was meeting with a nutritionist once a week. Like they, it was, and they were trying to achieve a specific goal for a medical study.

And you weren’t working out then. Yes. They specifically told us not to exercise. I mean, that’s a huge difference. Yeah. You know, can you imagine eating 900 calories and doing your tonal three or four times a week? Yeah. Like that would be. That would be bad shit. You would feel like shit all the time. Oh yeah.

And and so from what people can tell, like it all appears to be using AI and you get different answers based on whatever AI says. So I’m not saying latter is all bad, I just really don’t like the way Jennifer Jacobs handled things. But what I am saying is that although AI has a lot of things that it can do well.

Exercise, nutrition, not two of them, those are not things you should be using AI for [00:47:00] yet. Yeah, I mean, and we’ve talked about this before, it’s AI is still very much in its MapQuest phase, right? Definitely. Like it’s good for a lot of things, but sometimes it’s still gonna have you run right off a bridge.

Yeah, absolutely. And you know I know that there’s gonna be people who are like but, Pelotons using ai. Yeah, but they’re not, they’re using it to analyze data. They’re not using it to tell you what workouts to do when, or how much to eat. Those are two very different things. Very different. And, like not all AI is created the same.

So you gotta, step back and look at the bigger picture coming up. After this, we got content. We’re gonna give you the TCO top five and we’re gonna talk about more respin stuff, Jason Universe and countdown, a Turkey burn. So stick around

436 with audio: It is time to look at the TCO top five. You have told us the classes you think people should be paying attention to. So here we go. Number one, [00:48:00] your favorite full body strength. Okay, so several people nominated this class. It was a full body strength, done Halloween style, 20 minutes with Andy Spear, and it was released on October 25th.

And it’s referred to as the candy Andy class. Okay. Apparently his playlist had everything to do with sweet things and several people, Susan Yang, Mindy Jensen, Allison Raymond, laughed all the way through due to the silly references. Here’s a name you haven’t heard for a while. Beatrice loves tv. Me too.

Beatrice. Me too. She’s great too. She is she called the class effective with simple, not easy moves that went by quickly. Number two, your favorite. Seasonal meditation. Should I talk about my thoughts here or should I wait until we get to this? Let’s wait till we get there. Got it. Favorite seasonal meditation was a 10 minute Jason Universe meditation taught by Dennis Morton, and it was [00:49:00] released on 10 28.

So yeah, listen, these two things, they don’t sound like they go together, but. They do. Okay. If you just, you have to have an open mind. I won’t say my feelings yet. Dark Peloton. Who has is this is dark Pelotons. Literal time to shine a Absolutely. And she said her excitement was justified and then it was done so well.

She got chills. Just, stay to the end. That’s all you need to know. Yeah. Number three, your favorite mobility. Listen, this is old. This class is November 23rd of 22. Taught by Adrian Williams, kind chiro. 14. Popped into rave about this spinal mobility class with Adrian. He has had chronic back pain for 20, over 20 years and he said this is his go-to class to help with the healing process.

He’s taken it over 15 times. That is a great review. Yeah. I will say this, you might wanna sc. Screen record [00:50:00] that bad. Boy, that’s true. You kind Cairo, you are reaching the end of the life cycle. Although I will say they no longer announce when they’re deleting classes anymore, so I don’t know if they stopped doing that because they fired so many people.

Right. Or if they’re doing it just on the DL and people aren’t noticing as much anymore. Yeah, I’m not sure. But three years is a long time for a class, so like there’s a good chance that’s going away soon. So if you love it that much might be time to screen record. Yeah. Number four, your favorite seasonal run.

Okay, so this was taught by Marcel Mauer and it was also released on 10 25. And it’s in German, but Rosalia Carney said that she loved it. She said she doesn’t understand a lick of German, but his playlist was. Fire and music is universal. That’s fair. Yeah. And then finally, number five, it’s your Unst stackable this week.

It’s a ride. Yes. So Stacey Veto loved this class. She said that Jen gets your heart rate up [00:51:00]without you even realizing it. Their songs from The Doobie Brothers, Rio Speedwagon and Toto. Taking a look at this week at Peloton. We have new bar classes with Ali Love. We do. Yeah. So some of that is dropping while she continues her maternity leave.

And it’s gonna be a 20 minute pop bar and it will be out on demand On October 28th, you got a marathon shakeout run with Mariana and Carl Radkey. Yes. Special guest. He, Carl was on reality television, but he some show that I don’t know. But he also is an avid runner and passionate advocate for sobriety and mental health.

So he’s doing a 45 minute walk plus run. And that will be live on October 30th and it will count towards your runs ’cause it’s a walk plus run. Oh, I see. You see why that’s important. Just in time. Just in time for the marathon world Stroke day ride with Bradley Rose. Not to be confused with [00:52:00] World Stroke Day ride with Oliver Lee.

Talk about a. Deep gut. Oh boy. For, people who are newer to Peloton, you’re gonna have to do a search on our website about that. But yeah. So Bradley Rose, you know, he had a stroke. Yes. And it’s been several years ago at this point now, but like, it was a huge impact on his life for sure. Changed how he did everything, including becoming a Peloton instructor.

And so he talks about it and can you believe one in four adults over the age of 25 will have a stroke in their lifetime? Wow. This class is going to be a 10 minute, and it will be dropping on demand on October 29th.

We also have new scenic classes. This time we feature New Zealand. Ah, New Zealand. You get to ride through a little hobbit hole and see Stacey Sims while you’re there. I would love that because she is from New Zealand. Oh yeah. People not because she is a Hobbit. No, [00:53:00] of course not. Yeah. The people who’ve listened to our interview with Stacey Sims might remember that.

She’s from New Zealand and she’s also just delightful. She’s just a wonderful person. Reese Spin has added 51 new classes to the menopause content, but not new. See, the thing is what they did is they went through Pelotons existing collection. And they made up new subcategories, but they aren’t added to Pelotons collection.

Respin sent an email out to all of its members, whether you are a paying member or whether you’re doing the study with Respin, and you are able to click on the link and it will start the class within your app. Interesting. Okay. So. The Jason Universe content for the people that don’t understand what Jason Universe means.

Not to be confused with it’s Steven Universe. I know ’cause I keep doing that. Yeah. It’s the Friday the 13th character Jason Voorhees. And I [00:54:00] think what’s going on with the Jason Universe is there’s some copyright weirdness in that one person owns the, or company owns the rights to Friday the 13th, where another one owns the rights to Jason Voorhees.

And so there’s conflict. He had a similar thing going on with Chucky and Child’s play. Like one person owns the rights to child’s play, another person owns the rights to Chucky. Make that, how that happens, I have no idea, but. It occurs sometimes. Yeah. I picture it comes down to two men with a power struggle.

It’s, that’s almost certainly James Bond had the same issue for years where one person owned the right to James Bond, but another person owned the rights to Specter. And when you say one one person, you mean one man in all of these circumstances. Well, James Bond was owned by a family led by a man. He was a patriarchy well as families are.[00:55:00]

And then and then, yeah, like they created Specter for something else. And then that’s how, like the guy who wrote Thunderball likes to own the rights specifically to Thunderball. So anything that happened in Thunderball, he owned. And so that’s how you got never say never again. The James the, Sean Connery James Bond in the eighties, that wasn’t really an official Bond movie ’cause it was technically a remake of.

Of Thunderball and it gets very weird. Yeah, Okay. But anyway, this thing, Jason Universe this, thing. So Peloton came out with three different classes. One is the dentist meditation, one is a tread bootcamp, that’s the word. With Rebecca Kennedy. And one is a bike class with Camille Ramon for reasons unknown.

They dropped two of them on demand yesterday. One of them is gonna drop on demand today. Not sure why they didn’t just drop ’em all at the same time. Yeah. Since they’re all on demand. Right. But whatever. [00:56:00] What I do know is that they tell a story. And I don’t want to ruin any surprises, but I will say this about the meditation.

You’re not going to have your meditation ruined. Like if you’re worried about like. I need that quiet time for 10 minutes and like I’m worried it’s gonna do something. I don’t wanna it on a horror meditation. That’s really a big laugh. It’s still a meditation and you’ll still be able to get all the benefits from meditation that you typically get.

Gotcha. And I will also say I enjoyed the bootcamp that I did with Rebecca Kennedy. Now, I don’t typically do bootcamps because I use tonal so much. That, but I’m in between programs right now in tonal. Gotcha. And I was curious about it. One of the things I really loved about it was she had a whole section like it, when you do a bootcamp, it goes back and forth between a floor routine where you’re lifting weights and between the tread.

So you might be hiking on the tread, you might be running on the tread, et cetera. But she had a free mode section in there, an entire three minutes [00:57:00] of free mode. Okay. Whew. I mean, like. The i, am not a person who drips sweat and I was dripping sweat. Yeah. Everywhere. And it was very intense. Especially at the end.

And the story arc went with the workout, like, oh, that’s cool. It was, yeah. It, was in tandem and it was very, for me, it was fun and different and novel and I really enjoyed it. And I would suggest that people who are like, I don’t know if I would like that, just be open-minded because it actually got me in the mood to do more classes.

Like I, I was like kind of reinvigorated because some stuff, it feels like it’s been done a million times. Yeah. And I’m just kind of over it. Right. And this was fresh and new. And so I would suggest that people who aren’t sure about it give it a chance. I’m hoping that the bike class that I haven’t gotten a chance to take yet.

We will follow the story arc. It seems like it is. It seems like it would. Yeah. And and then I’m also hoping that there’s gonna [00:58:00] be a fun payoff at the end. So I’m looking forward to taking it when I get a chance and I’ll tell you more next time. Okay. We also have a countdown to Turkey Burn.

Yes. So this is new they’ve never done this before. It’s an entire program that is to get you ready for Turkey burn. Okay. The idea being on Turkey burn day, that you take multiple classes. So like, if you were gonna be taking classes, like if you were gonna do, what is it called? A try triathlon.

Okay. Kind of like that. So they’re getting you in shape for it. By these classes, you’re gonna take three strength days and two cardio days. And one day is gonna be like 60 minutes of stacking the classes. And if you look at the schedule, they’re already on the schedule and they’ll say like, day one, week one.

And they will also say, and they will also say like what, who’s teaching it and how long it is. And one of those days is going to be taught [00:59:00] by multiple instructors because you’re able to stack them. Those classes only go out to the 10th right now. So we don’t know all the instructors involved just yet, but more instructors were in the preview for it.

The real for it then we’re actually on the schedule so far. Gotcha. Leads you to believe it does. There are more coming. It does. Gotcha. You also got a sneak peek of the new Turkey burn shirt. Oh, I forgot to say by the way, Jason Universe has a special t-shirt as well. Oh, that’s right. Yeah. They dropped a special edition Peloton Jason Universe shirt.

But it’s $50 so. Yeah, forget it. Peloton, like, I don’t even know what you’re thinking. Like $50 for a frigging t-shirt. What is this a concert like? No they’re now factoring in all the club Peloton discounts. Yeah. Forget it. Forget it. Like I will, if that’s the case, I will never buy clothing from Peloton again.

And, it’s a boys boxy shirt. Yeah. So like, it’s not even cute. Like give me a cute tank. You might convince me to spend $50 on it because it’s cute and I’ll wear it. Yeah. But like an ugly boxy [01:00:00]tank. ’cause I’m not one of those women that’s gonna cut it off and wear it as a little crop top, you know? I mean they look cute when they do, but I won’t.

Not even for me. No. And so that’s not gonna happen. But anyway, to your point, Turkey Burn also has a t-shirt, a special edition. And you can buy that, you can buy both of them on the website apparel site right now. And I guess spend a hundred dollars if you wanna get both. There you go. Christian Vanderbilt has dropped his first ever program.

Yes. Yes.

Train like a pro five days and it’s going to be entirely on demand. So you are going to be able to follow along for five days with Christian Vanderbilt on his training, which Okay. Sounds intense. It does. You are gonna be training like a pro. Yeah. And then we have another new class type Power 60. Yeah.

And, it looks like Logan Aldridge and other instructors are gonna be teaching this class, and one of the things that in that seems to be different about it, according to [01:01:00] tipster slash Helper Bee Jen Kern, is that it includes mobility and stretching in the class. Ah. Which is interesting because I thought all classes did that because I take it on the tonal.

Right. And they always include it in there. Right. So. I assume you’re spoiled. I am spoiled, but there you go. I think that’s neat though. Yeah. I like, I, when I hear power, I also hear like you’re gonna be able to do more swinging, more like have more impact with your moves. Your moves that you’re doing. Right.
