Transcript:

welcome to the Clip Out podcast, episode 4 25. This is Crystal O’Keefe and this is Tom O’Keefe. So are you ready? For what? Well, now, I don’t know. This time next week we’ll be, oh, no, no, I’m not ready. We’ll be sending them both off to college. No I’m, I’m not ready. I’m having like, I’m okay right now, but [00:01:00] I think as soon as they’re gone, it’s gonna get real and then I’m gonna lose my mind.

I also think that like all the preparations have kept me very busy. Yeah. Work has kept me very busy. The podcast never stops, so that. That keeps me busy. I think all that busy is keeping me from like ruminating. Yeah. Which is probably for the best. Yeah. But geez Louise. Like I, I just don’t know what I’m gonna do.

At least yours will still be in the same state. That is true. That is true. And I know that she’s got people nearby that can take care of her if she needs to have Yeah. Be taken care of. So that is good. Oh my God. So college is hard. You sound a little weepy next week. Yeah, yeah. Or the following. It might be more the following.

’cause next week will be adrenaline. ’cause I’ll be like, we gotta get all this stuff done so I can leave tomorrow. For sure. Yeah. Weepy the following week though. Yeah, it’s gonna be a rough couple of weeks guys. So before the weeping commences, [00:02:00] what pray tell do you have in store for people? Well, we are gonna talk about pelotons interesting email about.

The guide. Yeah. On this week. That’s that. This is a weird one. Uh, we’re also gonna talk about changes to sessions. Remember those? No. No, you don’t. No. And that’s, that’s, yes. That’s why it’s interesting. There’s also a ton of, in the news for instructors, uh, there’s babies. Just babies. Just babies owe plenty.

Yeah. Yeah. And, uh, major milestones for, I don’t know what they put in the water over Peloton, but whatever they’re putting in the water, the only thing weirder is apparently how they drink it. We also have a special bonus baby discussion over on the Patreon. Yes. Uh, and then there is also. There’s no artist series this week.

Now we’re recording this Wednesday morning, so that could change today. Yeah, it could. We probably won’t come back and rerecord not for an artist [00:03:00] series, seems unlikely. Unless it’s Taylor Swift. Then maybe, I don’t know. Even then

they’ve done one before. They have multiple times, and so it’s just, it would just, I don’t even know what they would. Bust, like when they did the Beatles the first time, that was a big Yeah. There’s not much they could do right now until the new album comes out. Yeah. So, and I just don’t know that there’s much in the way of artist series at this point that could be like, oh my god, what a coup.

No, no, I totally agree. Yeah, yeah. It’s just expected now. Yeah. Um, and then we have tons of content to discuss this week. Lots of new things dropping and uh, they we’re gonna talk about all the new things. And then of course it’s, uh, August. So birthdays owe plenty. Yes, there are. So before we get to all that shameless plugs, don’t forget we’re available on Apple Podcast, Spotify, iHeart.

Tune in wherever you find a podcast. You can find us while you are at the air shore and follow us so you never miss an episode. Maybe leave us a review that is super helpful and greatly appreciated. You can also if you would like to support [00:04:00] the podcast with more than just your ears. You can do that with your wallet over at patreon.com/the clip out.

What do you get it? Well. It’s only $5 a month. And for that $5 you get ad free episodes. You get bonus episodes every week, and you get early episodes. So they normally come out a day early 24 hours-ish. Yeah, early. So, this week over on the bonus episode, we will be discussing the best exercises to improve your sleep, which I need.

Hosking is rehabbing his ankle. Mm-hmm. What that means, and then of course, is there another secret Peloton pregnancy. We will have the scoop for you on that over on the Patreon. Also, we have a Facebook page, facebook.com/the clip out. While you’re there, like the page, join the group. [00:05:00] I almost said it was called the League of Show Sharers.

That’s, that’s the wrong podcast thing. That’s the podcast people don’t listen to. But uh, yeah, the group is always a great way to, uh, start conversations. Things on the page just kind of get eaten up by the algorithm, but, uh, the group’s a little better for that sort of stuff. We throw a lot of news articles and stuff at you every week.

You can get those links sent directly to you by signing up for the newsletter@theclipout.com. And then finally, don’t forget, you can watch all of these episodes when we’re remember to hit record on the video. Oh, I did hit record too. Okay. Over@youtube.com. Slash the clip out. So there’s all that. Let’s dig in.

Shall we? We shall.

it’s not often we get to use the breaking news sweeper, but this is truly breaking news. We’re actually recording this at like 2 45 on Thursday to drop into the episode. Yeah. Like the Patreon members already have their episode. Yes. They’ve had it since last night. Yeah. And so they’re getting a new episode.

They’re getting a new episode. They’ll be like, what the holy [00:06:00] hell is happening here? Exactly. So, um. Peloton is announced some major things. You’re getting a new bike, a new tread, a new row new guide. Well, and, and no guide. But you know, here, here’s something we should say. It says refreshed in some of these things.

Yeah. So we’re not exactly sure what that means, right. Details are a little vague. Very vague. They came through, uh, Bloomberg. That’s who Peloton gave this news to. Yeah. To be their exclusive. So. There is a lot of information we don’t know, so we don’t know. Uh, it sounds like a new tread, but they didn’t say whether it was gonna be a new tread plus or a new regular tread.

Right. But I have been predicting there would be a new tread plus coming. So I’m really curious to see if that is what it is. Do you think it will be. A new tread plus that is somehow modified to make it less expensive. ’cause it’s no. So many people get sticker shock. No, I think it’ll be more expensive.

Okay. And I think that it will probably have all the bells and whistles it does today and it will be with [00:07:00] a better motor on it. So I think that’s what I think. Gotcha. Like if I was gonna do it, I’d have all the electronic bells and whistles. Try to future proof it for a few years and also put a stronger motor on it, because that’s like literally the only thing that one doesn’t have.

Gotcha. Because it, but now it does have a stronger motor than the tread. I don’t think it does, but Oh, really? It gets into weird because it’s like horsepower and I don’t know how to convert it. It’s, yeah. So let’s just say it’s not as strong as, as what some people think it should be. Gotcha. Can I just leave it at that?

Okay. Enough said. Um, I’m really curious too, though. They said there were gonna be accessories. Accessories like fans, accessories, like cell phone holders, which people have been selling on third party market forever. Yeah. Forever. And they’re also going to be selling a a different seat that you can use on the bike.

Well, that’s fascinating, right? Yeah. Yeah. So do you think you’ll be getting a new seat? Yeah. Do you think you’ll be replacing [00:08:00] any of your equipment? We’ll see if that’s tread Plus, that’s the only one I would seriously consider. Yeah. Because, uh, that Tread Plus is from 2018. Yeah. It’s gotta be a. Nearing the end of its lifecycle.

That’s fair. If nothing else, just from a, what kind of classes it can display right. Standpoint is what I’m thinking. And you, um, you, but you’ve never had any problems with your, never knock on wood, shush it. But some people have no, some people definitely have, but you have not. No, I, I have been very, very lucky.

Um, I’ve also never moved my tread plus that apparently is, is something that it’s very sensitive to. Gotcha. Moving it. Um, now we’ve moved it around the room, but that’s literally it, I think just once though, right? Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Like it was like, we felt like we had a face in the wrong direction, maybe, or, well, when we got the, we got the rower.

Yeah. We scooted it down. Had to scoot it. Yeah. And there’s also going to be a row plus. But one of the things that they’re not sure about in the article that I read was, is that going to be because the existing row is going to have new [00:09:00] things added to it, or is it going to be an entirely new row?

Right. Like, we’re not sure. Yeah. And they also said there’s gonna be a ton of new AI features coming out, so, you know. Later in the episode you’re gonna hear, but we recorded that two days ago, right? So give us a break. Yes. Uh, actually we recorded on the bonus. It’s the, it’s a bonus feature we talked about tailor AI for I fit.

That’s right. Um, and I am curious if we’re gonna be getting the type of things that I fit just dropped for their treadmill. And it’s called Taylor ai. I also wonder if we’re gonna see, it is for some reason the old monitors on older devices, what are now older devices, not somehow able to incorporate ai and it will only be available on the newer equipment.

Oh, that’s interesting. Or here’s another or, okay. Is it gonna be an upsell to your membership? If you want the AI help, it’s an extra $8 a month. Well, first of all, hold on. [00:10:00] They’ve already said they’re in, well, they’ve said that they think that they’re going to increase the prices. That’s what Bloomberg said.

Yeah. Or whichever one it was. Right. And it was $5 a month. Okay. Okay. So they also said there were no Peloton said during the earnings call. They were not gonna release any kind of increase in price at that time. It. I feel like when they drop this new equipment, which by the way they’re saying could be as soon as October.

Yeah. Very soon. You would think it would be before. The holidays. Yes, yes. Although, hang on, I’ll circle back to that in a second. Okay. But in October if they drop it thin and the price goes up, right? Yeah. Then they’re going to do something. There’s gonna be some features that drop that are going to make it worth that price, whether it’s ai Okay.

Or it’s something else. Like that’s what we talked about a couple, like last week when we did the episode. Yeah. So it’s five. But here’s what you get now. Yeah. You get this, all this extra stuff. Yeah. I don’t think it’s just gonna be, we’re just raising the price to raise the price. I really think there’s going to be things that make it feel worthwhile [00:11:00] to have an increase.

And I think that’s why they’re holding off on making that increase, because they wanna do that all at the same time. Gotcha. So if that’s gonna be October, and you said last week, you would recommend that they do it before the holiday from a price standpoint too, right? Because you can’t be raising prices.

In December, you know, or, or January worse. January, because all these people just got all this new equipment. Yeah. But then what do they already have ’em ready to ship? Because the, like in the past, what Peloton has done is a major announcement and you can start pre-ordering. Right. And those pre-orders then take a year to get, my guess is it’s something like that.

I’m not saying that it’ll take a year, but I feel like if these were already being manufactured somewhere, there would’ve been a leak by now. Yeah. Probably in the Taiwan news, right? Articles or things like that. Now I haven’t been watching those as closely as I used to. Yeah. Just because I got bored. And so it’s, it’s potential that I miss that.

But yeah, that’s, that’s a really good point. But [00:12:00] I think it also means that those AI features and whatever else that looks like are gonna drop in October, potentially, maybe even the accessories, you can start buying those sooner rather than later. Yeah, that would make sense. But yeah, it, it would be interesting ’cause it’s like if people, if.

It would be weird to make all these announcements in time for the holiday purchases, but then tell people, but you gotta wait a year and a half to get it. Yeah. Like, so you would think wherever it’s at in the pipeline, it’s gotta be pretty close to being able to be manufactured. I would hope, uh, yeah. I would hope they would not make that mistake again.

I, I would really hope. And I hope the refresh on the tread has a rear guard. I mean, come on. As I go down that road again. Yeah. Yeah. And I mean, again, for a multitude of reasons. It could be the tread, not the tread plus, in which case they, I don’t know why you would need to refresh the tread already.

Yeah. But maybe there are a lot of people that complain about it. You know, like they have issues on it, so maybe they, it’s that kind of refresh. Yeah. What sort of [00:13:00] issues? Well, there’s the regular tread apparently just like, has issues with all kinds of things. For example, it will just stop for no reason.

That’s not good. Sometimes pieces come loose and sometimes that they fix the monitor issue that they had. Mm-hmm. So that’s, that’s all fixed. But people have had things happen like. It will like have a piece fall out of it, and then they’ll try to put it back in and it won’t work. Right.

Or it’ll say return key, but that, that was years ago. Yeah. I don’t even know if that’s still happening. And a lot of people seem to have issues with their tread belt moving because it’s, it’s not like mine is like a. It’s a belt made into the machine. Right. But those are made like, like it’s on top of rollers.

Yeah. And so that little belt kind of like can scoot and it has like lines on it to show where it’s supposed to be centered. And sometimes people have issues with that too. Gotcha. Drifts. Mm-hmm. Gotcha. Mm-hmm. And you’re supposed to recalibrate, I think once a year you’re supposed to do that. So that’s a very different experience.

But I have a [00:14:00] lot of curiosity around all of this. I, I don’t even. I don’t even know how to feel about it. It’s just, it’s not even excitement, it’s curiosity. Right. Yeah. No, that makes sense. Yeah. Especially ’cause you’re not dissatisfied with the stuff you have, so you’re not really Exactly. When by plus came out, you were like, oh, that’ll be, but now it’s just like, it would ha, I would think it would have to be a pretty major change or the equipment you have is about to stop working.

That would incentivize you to. Repurchase it? I think so. I can’t imagine, with the exception of the Tread Plus, I cannot imagine. Yeah. That’s the only one that I can really, even if they come out with a row plus, I’m like, I don’t use it that often for sure. It’s, it’s not worth it at all. Yeah. But the tread, I.

Yeah. Well, especially as old as it is. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. I, exactly. I mean, you bought it in wave one. Yeah. Yeah. Back when JV still worked there. Go back and listen to the old episodes as Crystal complains about how she doesn’t have her tread yet. Just says Fred is fall. It is fall, yeah. Because it’s all they had was the [00:15:00] tread.

Yeah. And you get it. You got it on like. It was like December. It was like December 15th, right. And December 20th became like, becomes winter or something. They’re like, technically it’s still falling in December. I’m like, oh, technically, but nobody’s, everybody put the pumpkins away, I’ll tell you that.

So there’s your update. Yes. We will return you to your regular clip out program already in progress.

On the earnings call last week. They talked about opening new micro stores. Correct. We had quite the conversation about is micro store one word? Is it two words? Is it hyphenated? We did do the M and the S both get capitalized. This became a com. Like this is how we spend our Tuesday nights. Yeah, this is, it’s pretty, it’s exciting.

It’s pretty sexy. Yeah. And we finally came to the conclusion that there is no conclusion. We found [00:16:00] multiple reputable websites. All landing on different decisions about how to spell the word micro store. Yeah. Or display the word micro. It was all over the place. It was, it was kind of funny because we were, I put in a hyphen you like, no.

And I was like, I don’t think it’s a real word. Like I think it could be anything. And I Googled it and it came up as one word. It, yeah. And then I did a news search and it was like, business Insider showed it one way MSN showed it a, it was kinda, anyway, the, the, so micro stores or micro. Stores or micro stores.

That’s the sound of a, of a hyphen. I, I figured that out. I’m like Victor Borja over here. That’s an old timey reference for people. It’s, if you get that one, I, you’re my people. So, uh, we feel like we have a pretty good idea on where these micro stores will be micro storing. We do, and the interesting thing is.

I guess it’s not super interesting. I guess it’s more just [00:17:00] like notable. Mm-hmm. That all of these cities have had Peloton showrooms, traditional Peloton showrooms. Right. And they have all closed in the last 12 to 18 months. And I feel like that makes sense. It does. Right. Because like they were spending all this money on retail space, they wanna back off, but they don’t wanna be outta the market.

Right. And also you figure they wanna be in the biggest markets most likely. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. And so like why? Why put them in a different market you haven’t been in? Just ’cause you haven’t been in it. Like why be like, we gave up Boston, but. Evansville, Indiana seems like a good place for a micro store. Like that Seems silly.

So, yeah. So where do we think they will be and why do we feel like we know this? I’m gonna start with a why. Okay. We think why? Because there are a ton of. LinkedIn job postings, right. That came up this week. They all were for showroom managers and Peloton experts. And when we cross-referenced with where stores [00:18:00] existed, there were several that came up where there were no stores currently.

Right. Okay. So we think this is like saying, Hey, these micro stores are going to be opening in these areas and full credit. Nikki, oh, help, help her be Nikki, help her be Nikki, investigator Nikki. Uh, she’s got a lot of names. Yeah, a lot of names. Uh, but, but she, I’ll just say, Mr. Helper, be Nikki. Never cheat on this woman.

You better clear your browser history. She will find it every day. She will know. And then delete that folder. You know, if you tried to cheat on her, she’d probably sense it. Yes. And she would know exactly who with on top of it. Yes. Like it would get ugly. It real ugly. Not that Mr. Helper be Nikki would ever do that.

He is beyond reproach. I think he is a standup guy. Only met him once. I just hear a lot of stories about him. Sure. But he sounds like a wonderful dude. Yes. I’m hypothetically he should never, it would be a really, it’s always a bad [00:19:00] idea, but it would be a really bad idea. Given her investigative skills that woman can find anything?

Yes. Anything. Okay. So, uh, we’ve got the following locations, Natick, uh, Massachusetts, which it, it’s on the Boston suburbs. Gotcha. So basically Boston. Yeah. And, uh, we’ve actually been to this mall. This is the real fancy one. Oh this. This is the one where like, you like have all the stores where you’re like, well, I can’t even walk into that store.

Right. We went into the mall and we’re like, well, you don’t got a Spencer’s. Yeah. What are we gonna do here? Exactly. Do you have a hot topic? No, they don’t have that either. What are we gonna what? It’s all Prada and I think that’s this one. Yeah. I’m pretty sure it’s this one. It’s with track. I’m sure somebody will tell me if I’m wrong.

I can’t imagine Peloton would is going in. To the non fancy mall. Yeah. And then we have Denver, Colorado, which we’ve actually been to Denver. The Denver Peloton showroom. That was the first Peloton showroom you ever went to. It is and, uh, [00:20:00] this is going to be, these are all micro stores. We have to keep remembering that.

Mm-hmm. Uh, Seattle, which I’ve never been to these, I’ve never been to Seattle, period. Same. Um, but they did have a showroom there, maybe more than one. Tampa, Florida. Uh, they are now getting a micro store, we think. Right. Okay. Uh, then Atlanta, Georgia, which makes sense. Makes total sense. It was one of the last ones to close too.

Yeah. Uh, and then Short Hills, New Jersey. Which is fascinating because that was like, I’m pretty sure that was the very first, very first Peloton showroom, and that was like a real moment when that one closed. Like that just felt like, oh, dagger to my heart. That was the one where like John Foley was D Foley would literally sell you a bike.

Yes. He would just work in it. Exactly. The whole Foley family. Yeah. You know, because they were, Jill was there too. Um, so yeah, that. That one was like, oh, when that closed. Yeah. So, you know, just to kind of recap, we be like Peloton said during the earnings call that they are looking to go from, they’ve, they did a micro [00:21:00] store, they’ve got a second one that just opened.

They were looking to have a total of 10. This is rounding that out pretty nicely. Um, so we’ve got seven here, I believe. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. I thought I sworn there were seven. 1, 2, 3. Uh, apparently there’s six. And, uh, so that, that brings us to a total of eight if these locations are correct. Gotcha. And I feel pretty strongly they are.

I’m just like, I’m just like giving myself an out. Right. In case. For just in case. Just case. Like what else would they be? Yeah, exactly. Exactly. Um, so I think this makes a lot of sense. The micro stores are like little tiny stores that can be put out in the middle of the mall. Mm-hmm. And they have like a couple pieces of equipment.

They’re not selling clothes, but they have somebody there manning it. Uh, it’s certain hours to be able to show you the equipment, show you how it works. So you still get that experience without the crazy expense. Of like a retail location, right? So I think this is smart. People can still try out the equipment [00:22:00] and uh, we will see if these are the correct locations.

Time will tell. Okay,

Peloton. You so crazy. So crazy. They sent out a mysterious survey this week asking you your opinion of the guide. The guide, a rating one to 10 if you would recommend to a friend, and then a text box on what you like about it. What does this mean? Was this like scheduled and somebody just forgot to cancel it or.

Or, you know, we’re getting the guide 2.0 no way, but Guide Plus. But like, what if, like, I know that Peloton is coming out with, you know, new features this year, new equipment. Is it somehow related? I don’t even know how it would be like the things you like about it. So we make sure to keep ’em the things that you like about it.

So we make sure to incorporate it in strength plus the things that you like about it. [00:23:00] So we are creating a whole new thing you don’t even know about or have never thought about in the background. I dunno. It’s crazy. It’s Looney Tunes. It is Looney Tunes. I, like I said, the only thing I can think is this was a scheduled survey That’s, that I will say that is uh, that is the consensus.

And they, among the people I have pulled, yeah. And they just forgot to cancel it. Which given that the mistakes that get made and that they keep letting people go, yeah. We had to do a round of layoffs last week. Yeah. I mean, that’s not a crazy thought. Right? The person whose job that was didn’t work there anymore and, and either didn’t think to or didn’t care to remind people on their way out, oh, hey, I got this thing scheduled.

Yeah. You know? Yeah. I mean, when you. When you reduce workforce that sadly it tends to happen. Things fall through the cracks. Yeah. ’cause even if you have everything documented, and even if everybody’s aware of everything going on, things just get missed. And there’s always this feeling of chaos when people leave.

Yeah. ’cause new like, because [00:24:00] people have to take on rules of things they didn’t do before. Get their own new routine and rhythm. Yeah. So it totally could be that. And, and it could also be that they really are trying to. Gather information for something else. I just don’t know why they would do it now.

Yeah, like you would think if that was the case, they would position it as like. You know, we know this product is going away, you would think, but we would just, as we close the door, we would like your thoughts so we can incorporate it into new product designs so we don’t create something else people don’t care about.

It’s just this is the type of thing that like leads to so much chaos. Yeah, because, because when you put a question out there like this. It creates this sense that like, oh my gosh they’re going to, they said they were gonna support the guide, but maybe they’re not. Right. And so nobody knows what to do with that.

Or the people that really love the guide, because there are lots of people that really love it. Both of them are, are gonna be like, they’re bringing it back [00:25:00] and they’ve already recognized the error of their ways. It’s coming back and. And like I’m teasing guide fans. I’m sure they’re out there and I think there’re there.

There really are. I think there people are really like, people who love it are really fervent about it. Yeah. I think they love, love. I think that there’s a small sliver that love it and there’s, I think there were a lot of people that were like, oh, this is nice. But like, weren’t passionate about it. Yeah. I certainly enjoy having it, having the ability to be able to do classes easily, like on the TV in the living room.

Right. That is, it’s very nice for me. But that’s, I don’t use it for any of the reasons that they, you know, I don’t have the rep track. I mean, I don’t use any of it. I almost always use it for yoga. It’s almost always what I use it for. Yeah. So I, I, but also a lot of that stuff like the rep tracking. You that’s more strength based and you would use the tonal and not everybody exactly.

Has a tonal laying around. No, totally. And don’t we all wish that we did? I mean, it’s an expensive piece of equipment, but [00:26:00] amazing that it is. Sorry, use promo code tc. No, I do have a discount code though if anybody’s looking. Yeah, you just let me know. So speaking of bygone. Peloton. Products, systems, things, things sessions.

Somebody asked a question about sessions. I think it’s funny because I literally now granted it’s been well documented that I, I do not use Peloton. So it has been well documented, but it’s also been well documented that because of you, I blame you entirely. I talk about Peloton. A lot. You do. So I would venture to say there is no one on the face of the earth who doesn’t use Peloton, who knows as much about Peloton as I do.

I think that is true. Yeah. I definitely think that is true. And so [00:27:00] you in the show notes that then I turn into the show notes, the public, these, this created quite the conversation last night. Yeah. You had written. Sessions changes. And I was just like, what the hell does that mean? And you, well then you were like, well, it’s on the, the image.

But the image wasn’t there. I thought I had put the image on, but beyond that I was just like, what are what? What the hell is a session? What are sessions? Are we talking about Jeff Sessions? People hate it when we get political and. And you’re like, no Sessions. When they used to, they do this thing. I was like, I have, if we’ve ever talked about that and we have, I have zero recollection now.

Unfortunately, if we have talked about that, it’s almost certainly been recorded. It has. So like you could go back and be like, here you are talking about it. I could literally pull up the transcript from seven years ago. I don’t think it was quite seven. It has been a while from six and a half years ago.

It’s definitely been a while. From six years and [00:28:00] 11 months ago. Okay. Okay. Okay. And so I was just like, sessions. So apparently these things we’ve all forgotten. They don’t exist anymore. They don’t exist because nobody uses it. Yeah. Okay. So Sessions, what they were, what they are, because they do still exist in a way ish.

So sessions were, you missed the live class. Right. But the class is still. On demand, obviously. Okay. You could, new classes had the ability to have public sessions that started at regular intervals, let’s say every two hours, and they then had a fresh leaderboard. So only the people you were in the session with were on the leaderboard.

Not everybody who had ever taken the class. Okay. So it was a way to replicate maybe the live leaderboard experience, but in a on demand class? Precisely. Okay. Yes. But there were a lot of bugs with it. Like for a long time, what people said, I, I saw this for [00:29:00] years, people would say that like they would log into a sessions and nobody else was there.

Like it would say 400 people or whatever, and then you’d log in and nobody was there. And to me it never was something that was like super exciting for me because I didn’t really care about the leaderboard. Right. There are people that do. Sure, and if you do, then that would be important, but like. I, you could, you could still see it, you could still see who was on the class in a regular on demand without being in a session.

So I really never got the benefit of it because I don’t care about the leaderboard. Right. And apparently there’s a lot of people that felt that way because they have discontinued this option and the fact that they’ve discontinued it and there was no uproar of any kind, I think shows you how.

Unconcerned people were with. Well, one person on the OPP asked about it, but I would also, I would counter, how long has it been gone? Bef until that person, that one lone [00:30:00] person finally noticed it said, went on today. And that was not an option. I got the impression this person used it every day. Gotcha. The one person who used it every day.

But. They probably loved it ’cause they were always at the top of the leaderboard ’cause nobody else was doing it. They’d probably been probably screenshotting it. Look, I’m number one, posting it to their TikTok.

I guess it’s easier than jacking your bike like the jerk offs that do that. Yeah. But the thing about it is that if you do miss it though, there is still a way to do it. You, so there were two ways that you could start a session. One were these public sessions, right? That were out there for everybody.

But you can also create a session by using invite friends. So if you wanted to like just ride with your friends and have a clean leaderboard for just you and your friends. You can still do that. So you can, you can still invite, if you wanna erase somebody, send invites. Yes, you can do that. You can still be number one on the leaderboard if that is important to you.

If you’re, as long as you’re better than your friends. I mean, I guess you could send out invites to [00:31:00] people you know, won’t show up or. To people that you know, don’t have jack bikes like you do. Yeah. Or people you know are really bad at it. That’s true too. Hey, bad is very unfair because, okay, that’s true.

Because like if you are a tall person who has a lot of muscle, you are always going to outdo a person who does the exact same metrics, who weighs less than you because you just don’t have as much momentum and force to put on those pedals. And that’s. The output is based on, so you’re never gonna beat that person.

They’re discriminating against us, shuttling people. We, well, it is also thin, which I don’t feel like I am, I, I don’t think I count there either. Get on the bike and, let’s see. Yeah, I’m good. I feel pretty confident I know what the outcome would be. I don’t know. I actually, I bet you’d beat me on the bike.

Which would be crazy, but I, I do think it’s accurate. See now I really can’t do it. ’cause you would be so upset. I would, I might cry a little. I really wouldn’t. ’cause I don’t care about the leaderboard. Like I gave up on that years ago. There’s like stages of Peloton [00:32:00] use. Yeah. And my days of caring about that leaderboard have been over for a long time.

But when you first start, it is important. Yeah. For most people. So, speaking of important mm-hmm. There’s some people coming up that wanna tell you, have messages for you, things that they wanna sell you, that’s important. Okay? And, uh, when we get done with that, we’re gonna talk about all the Peloton babies asterisk, except for one that we’ll talk about over on the bonus.

And we will also talk about who’s teaming up with Spotify and an update on two day’s swimsuit competition. So stick around.

Ben Aldis and Leanne. Haynes be Aldis are having a baby. They sure are. We, uh, the, the tipster and the helper bees were on this a few weeks ago. Yeah. Like we were all like watching, um, you know, certain changes occur, you can [00:33:00] kind of feel it. And they were posting and all of a sudden plants were being put on postings and we were.

What is happening? Um, so like when a character gets pregnant on a sitcom, it was Yeah. Like, and they start carrying like a big salad bowl or a trench coat. Yeah. It was like that. And we were like, I think she’s pregnant. They get, they get trapped in an air duct. Yeah. But it is just the best news. These two have been through so much together.

Multiple cancers journeys. Yeah. And, uh, and they’ve been in Peloton instructors together. Like their love story is like. A history book, like a storybook romance. Yeah. And, uh, it is just, it’s lovely to see that they are having a baby and we, we are very excited for them. The first Peloton baby bred entirely in captivity.

Yeah. This is full circle. Yeah. Yeah. Like I think that is because I’m trying to think. There’s not been any other instructor relationships that [00:34:00] have, have resulted in offspring. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I think that is the first, yeah. That’s pretty special. Yeah. That’s pretty special. Yeah, and they’ve been around a long time, which is funny ’cause.

It feels, they feel like the new people to me. Yeah. Well I remember like meeting them at, we’ve told this story story before, but meeting ’em at HRI or homecoming, whatever they were calling it that year. And like they, we were standing there talking to ’em for like 30 minutes. ’cause nobody knew who they were.

And that was back in 2018. Yeah. And we were like, don’t worry. Next year you will not even acknowledge our existence. And, and we’re definitely there. Yeah.

Genuinely good for them. Yeah, for sure. Congratulations. And speaking of babies, not to be outdone. Selena Samuel was like, oh, you’re having a baby. Get a load of this. I’m gonna have two this talk about stories. Okay. ’cause Selena has been very open about her trying to [00:35:00] conceive journey and how it has been rocky, to say the least.

It has been emotional, it has been ups and downs. Just a real, really rough time and ins and outs. Oh, Tom, what? I’m sorry. I thought you knew where babies came from. And so not only is Selena pregnant as we announced last week, but she is having twins. Oh, I’m so, so happy for her. I’m always happy when someone else has twins.

You know, um, I just think that when you’re trying to conceive and it’s like, are we ever going to get there? Are we ever gonna have this other baby that It’s just like to be able to, I just think this might be the final, the final chapter in there trying to conceive, I’m not trying to say that I’m not trying to decide for them.

Right. Nor can you, nor can I, of course. But, um, but I just think that it, it it could, it could be, and it just feels like super special. Yeah. Super special after everything they’ve been through, so. I’m [00:36:00]huge. Congrats. Huge congrats. And over on the Patreon bonus episode this week we will talk about another secret to Peloton pregnancy.

Mm-hmm. So you can check that out over there. While we’re speaking of Selena, another exciting piece of news for her. She is teaming up with Spotify for something called Lit and Fit. Yeah, first of all, I have to say a huge congrats to Selena. She’s one of the instructors that’s been around a long time, done an amazing job and doesn’t get a lot of these partnerships.

Not that she has never had any right, but just like some instructors, they get a ton. She’s not one of them. Yeah. And she’s such a bookworm. Yeah. And uh, as a fellow bookworm, that is important to me. But, uh, she talks about the book she loves all the time. She has now gotten her own challenge and sponsorship with Spotify.

It is going to be a challenge to see how many like. The books that you can read during this time. So it’s called, let’s see, there are gonna be three tiers to the challenge. Tier [00:37:00] one is 60 minutes of listening while moving per week tier. It is like audio books. It is, yeah. Spotify audio books, right? Tier two, two to three hours of listening and moving.

And then tier three, three or more hours of listening and moving. Per week. Uh, there also maybe a few incentives, like shout outs and extra listening hours along the way. And you can go to her Instagram, Selena Samuella for all of the details.

We have the results on the sports. Illustrated swimsuit contest that Tunde was participating in, and she won. She did, again, huge congratulations. This was a really big deal. Somebody from the Sports Illustrated Committee came, it came on to her. She was doing a a hills. Ride. What day was that? Sunday.

Sunday. And uh, and several Peloton instructors and they all came up to the bike as she was like closing out the bike class. Yeah. And then, and told her live in her class. And [00:38:00] Tunde was so funny, like she was simultaneous. Completely thrown off. Yeah. But also. Remained completely in the zone as an instructor, right.

And started telling everyone to stretch. I think she was like super caught off guard and didn’t know what to say. It’s it’s literal muscle memory. And she was like, remember to stretch after this class. Uh, it was, it was a very special moment and our tipsters were on the ball. Tipster, Trish had it recorded.

Sent it to me seconds after it ended. And, uh, we, we got it posted and all the instructors started chiming in right away. Everybody was so excited for her. It’s a big deal. It’s, it is, it’s a big deal. And so she will, she will be considered a swimsuit, I’m sorry, a Sports illustrated swimsuit. Rookie in 2026.

So congrats to Tunde. I’m sorry, I cut off your, congrats. That’s okay. Coming up after [00:39:00] this, uh, we’re gonna talk about content, all the classes that maybe aren’t on your radar but should be. So stick around.

it is time for the TCO top five. We ask you for your favorite classes and then we tell you if you’re right. Number one, your favorite artist series ride? Yes. Well, this was taught by Ben Aldi.

It was on. August 7th, and it was a 30 minute oasis ride. That was the artist series of the week. Last week we had a new person who, who submitted Oh, Larry Wellborn. Well, hello Larry. Hi Larry. Not to be confused with the sitcom. Hello, Larry, which was famously not good, so I apologize, Larry, if I, if I traumatized you that I wasn’t even thinking.

Larry probably has no idea what you’re talking about and it’s weird. To wrap your head around the idea that there was a moment in time when I wasn’t thinking about forgotten 80 [00:40:00] sitcoms and the one time I’m not. This is what happens. Larry described it as a nice class that didn’t seem overly hard until I realized I set a new PR that was 31 better than my old one deceptively good.

Congrats, Larry. Favorite. Yoga and Pilates, and if this is from leaderboard named my mother, the car, I don’t even know what to do. It’s not, oh, thank goodness. It’s okay. Uh, this class was taught by Anna Greenberg, who we have not seen on this list in a while, so I’m super happy to see this. Uh, she taught this class back on June 25th, and it was, uh, nominated by Amy Nance.

She said, I took this class. Last Saturday and my abs were still sore on Monday morning. The class moved a little fast, but it was effective and I felt great afterwards. This was the Britney Spears Yoga Plus Pilates class. Okay. Uh, number three, your favorite Ride brought to you by Joni Loves Chachi I and it was nominated.

[00:41:00] So let’s see if you can guess. I’m gonna see if you can guess the instructor by who nominated it. Okay. Who nominated it was Gimme More Rigs Bay. Okay. Well, I also have the picture right here. I know, I know. You’re supposed to play along. Oh, Cody, well, yes. Yes, it was.

So, uh, Cody taught this 30 minute nineties ride on August 7th and Gimme More Rigs. Bay said This playlist was so good, it brought us back to simpler times. Number four, your favorite yoga class brought to you by make room for Granddaddy. Yes. That’s a real show. Uh, okay. So Dennis Morton taught this class on July 25th.

It was. TH 30 minute morning slow flow. And Mindy Jensen said, Dennis has become my favorite yoga instructor since Kristen McGee left. So when I saw this [00:42:00] slow flow, I was hoping for a good stretch wrong. The middle section is about five minutes in a variation of lunge poses for each legs. It wasn’t the stretch I was looking for, but it was great.

Surprisingly tough workout, and it worked up a bit of sweat. Okay, and finally, it’s your Unst stackable, brought to you by. Fish. So this is kicking it back a little bit, but we’re going back to 2024 and it was taught by multiple instructors because it was the 120 minute global power zone endurance ride, and it was from November 16th.

  1. Karen Smith nominated this class and said, do not skip out on the one 20 minute the 120 minute global power zone ride from November 16th, all zone two and three. But this class had me in a sweaty heap by the end. I like the continuous banter across all the instructors, and it’s a great way to try out different ones.

You don’t usually ride with lots of focus on nutrition throughout the ride, showing not only its importance. But especially on these long rides, [00:43:00] definitely unst stackable as I wasn’t doing anything afterwards. Taking a look at this week in Peloton, we have focus flow hips. We do, we do. And uh, Chelsea Jackson Roberts taught this class, uh, it was, it actually is going to be on demand this week.

It dropped and it was a 20 minute focus flow. So the, it focuses on mobility and flexible flexibility in the lower body. It eases tension and improves range of motion. So very helpful. Yeah. We also have 30 minute bar sculpt with Leanne. We do, that drops on Wednesday and then a 30 minute outdoor run club with Selena because they do these every Saturday now.

Yeah. And they switch up. The instructors super fun. Love these. And then if you’re looking for a non-pregnant instructor, you have a 30 minute sample that ride with Dennis. It’s also gonna drop on [00:44:00] Saturday, August 16th, just like the outdoor run club. And it’s gonna be a variety of classes, I’m sorry, music where it has different sampling.

So it’s like the older songs. And then he uses a new song that samples, that older song. I see a variety. So should I use, uh, forgotten variety shows? You want me to do that? Sure. You like the. Brady Bunch, variety, hour Shields and Yarnell. Were these real shows or were they just like a show, like they did like a two hour thing?

Brady Bunch Variety Hour ran for a full season and it is spectacularly awful. And then to show you how crazy sitcoms were or TV was in the seventies, shields and Yarnell had a, had a variety show. What the hell is a shield in Yarnell? Brace yourself. Okay. They were mimes. They gave Mimes a variety show in the seventies.

That is crazy. That is crazy. [00:45:00] Yeah. People hate mimes. It’s, that’s crazy. Yeah. I. So some other classes you might wanna check out. Andy has a new advanced split. He does? Yeah. And it dropped on August 11th. Um, and people are kind of a little upset that it dropped so close to Rebecca because now they’re like, which one do I take?

Because there was the new split that Rebecca’s dropped last week, and there’s not enough time for you to, so hopefully there’s not conflict in the house. You, you never know. I’m just kidding. You know how competitive we can be. It’s true. It’s true. It’s true. But instead, people seem to see it as like they’re both amazing and they both teach strength very well, so they’re excited to take both.

That seems to be the takeaway. Okay. Okay. We also have rising rock classes for people. They got a whole bunch of these things they do. And I have to say, going back to our earlier conversation about Peloton doing oopsies, these all were listed as April. [00:46:00] When it first came out. Well, August starts with an A, right?

So yeah, I was like, maybe it’s somebody like Sydney who still doesn’t know their months. Yeah.

But, uh, this is August and several of these dropped. There’s strength and rides and rows and runs, so you can get across a whole bunch. But there’s like 10 of these, so make sure to check these out.

Adini Shaw has, uh, seven days of mindful mornings. Yes. So you can continue your August meditation challenge, but you can also take a program. So this was, it’s meant to be one week long, seven days a week. You’re supposed to do it every day, and the classes last between five and 10 minutes. So you can check that out and work on your.

Badge for the month. And we also have a Sean Paul artist series. We do. You know what? I think that’s the one that dropped this week that I forgot there. Whoopsies. Whoops. Pretend [00:47:00] like we didn’t have that conversation, Joel. I’m sure we’ll take it out in post. No doubt. No we won’t. No doubt it’ll be gone.

You’ll have no idea what I’m talking about right now. ’cause that other thing didn’t happen. Said to totally happen. Things are crazy right now. Yeah, it’s busy. I’m so sorry. I saw this. It didn’t even make the connection. Oh my God. I’m tired. So you got two Sean Paul classes. There’s a bunch actually, there’s only two.

There’s on. Yeah, but I think there’s gonna be a bunch that drop on demand as well. We don’t actually know that. And Peloton has gotten very unpredictable with these these classes, like with the. Artist series, right? Like sometimes they’ll have multiples in a week. Sometimes they only have one. So maybe it is only two classes.

I don’t know. Those two live, we assumed there was gonna be some on demand dropping. Gotcha. This week as well. So we’ll find out. And finally, we should say that Nico is the next instructor to visit PSL. She is, yeah. And also, just a side note, it’s kind of [00:48:00] weird because she’s doing these classes, but good luck finding them.

In the app. We couldn’t find it like on the live schedule. It was just really confusing. But she is coming and she is teaching those classes. So we talked last week about Rebecca Kennedy’s Five Day Express, and if you’re wondering what to expect before you pull the trigger on that, we’ve got a review of it over@theclipout.com.

We do, yeah. Help her be, uh, Lisa wrote this and it is past guest by the way. Oh. Uh, and, uh, she, I. I’m pretty, yeah, I, I’ll wait to save her news. Nevermind. Okay. I don’t wanna say that, but and no, she’s not pregnant, but, um, she talks in this article about the key features of it. So she kind of breaks it out like, okay, you’re getting five days of workout, you’re gonna get two days of rest.

You’re gonna have three days that are gonna be focused on pure strength, two days that are gonna have strength and conditioning. Um, this is the first. Program where Peloton app had it and Peloton Strength Plus [00:49:00] had it. It also includes elements of hyper hypertrophy training and you are encouraged to repeat the program four to eight weeks, increasing your weights and tracking your progress.

The reason that this stands out is because you are trying to push your limits, especially with heavier weights and working on proper form, gradual progress, and really forming that habit. So lots of details in here. It’s gonna tell you all the things you need to know. Thank you to help her be Lisa. If that’s not enough for you, Callie Gullickson has some bike boot camps in your future.

Well, we think. We think that is what is occurring. Okay, so here’s the deal. She filmed. There was like on her Instagram. Instagram, there was a picture of her next to a bike. There appeared to be weights. The assumption was it’s gonna be a bike bootcamp. There was a time when she said not doing anymore bike boot camps.

Mm-hmm. We’re pretty sure Peloton was like, yeah, but you are. And, um, we’ll make that decision. [00:50:00] Yeah. And so, uh, we think that they are coming back and we think we are going to be seeing it very, very soon. Awesome. And then finally, we have, uh, some upcoming run clubs for people. Yeah. Now the interesting thing about this is there is a London and Peloton, New York this time around.

It’s a long run. Well, they’re happening. They’re both happening, not at the exact same time. The one in, well that’s good ’cause you would drown. The one in New York is gonna be led by Becks Gentry. Uh, it’s gonna be a 5K walk plus run, and it’s gonna be on the West Side Highway. It’s going to be on Wednesday, August 20th at 7:00 AM.

And then the one on London in London is going to be taking place at 6:00 PM on August 20th London time. Okay. And it’s going to be led by Hannah Franken and Eric Jaeger. And they are going to be celebrating the rich culture and vibrant energy. Energy of Carnival.

It is time for Peloton [00:51:00] birthdays. We have not one, not two. Not three. We have five birthdays this week. Holy cannoli. Yes. First up is Nicole Moline on August 17th. Past instructor. For those of you who do not know. Yes, that’s some of, yeah. That might need some explanation for people. Kirsten Ferguson on August 19th.

Charlotte Weidenbach on August 20th. What? Yeah. Jill Foley on August 20th. August 20th is a busy day. And then finally, the most important Peloton birthday on August 20th. It’s clip out Crystal. Aw. So happy birthday to all of those people, but especially clip out Crystal. Oh, thank you. So, uh, that’s it for this one.

Until next week, where can people find you? They can find me on Facebook at facebook.com/crystal. Do keefe. They can find me on threads and. Blue Sky and Instagram, and of course, the Peloton leaderboard at Clip Out Crystal. And you can find me on Threads in Blue Sky at Tom O’Keefe Jr. Or on Facebook at [00:52:00] facebook.com/tom O’Keefe.

You can find the show online at facebook.com/the clip out. While you’re there, like the page, join the group. And of course, don’t forget our Patreon, five bucks a month. You get ad free episodes, you get all sorts of bonus content, and you get, early episodes this week over on the Patreon, we’re talking about a Leave It To Beaver episode.

We watched that raised some serious questions about what the hell people were doing in the fifties. Uh, it’s it, it’s deep dive. It is. Oh, I made a pun. That’s your hint. Yeah, it would be deep dive, but there was just a throwaway line on Leave It to Beaver that sent us down a rabbit hole of weirdness. No idea.

No, I am shocked. Shocked, shocked. Shocked that the world used to be like this and no one talks about it. No. No one. I’ve never heard this before. So that’s over there. If me rattling off, old timey, forgotten sitcoms was not enough. Pop culture for you. Do we add a [00:53:00] good one in store? So anyway, that’s it for this one.

Thanks for tuning in, and until next time, keep pedaling and running and rowing.
