No. Last week, it wasn’t officially over. Week one was over.
You’re right. Now, it was almost over.
Now it is done. Thank God.
Although I don’t think we’ll ever stop quoting it, which is sad.
I know. It’s frightening how many shows we watch where a stray piece of dialogue mirrors a line from the play and we all go into that next line. It’s odd. It happens a lot.
That’s the downside of an entire family reading a play together. That’s what I’ve learned.
Think of all the quality bonding time we get because of that.
It will be an inside joke forever. No one will understand why we’re saying things like, “Heart to heart.”

Peloton admits defeat with the Guide. They’re like, “Fine, it’s a dollar.” No, it’s not a dollar.
No, it’s $95. It’s been on sale for $95 many times.
Is this its permanent price point or is it the permanent price point until they’ve sold them all?
That’s a great question. We don’t know. There are a lot of people who still are not convinced that the Guide is a great option. Here’s why I think that’s not necessarily true. This only counts for people who don’t have equipment. If you don’t have equipment, the Guide is your best entry point.
It’s a great price hack for your monthly membership.
You get all of the classes for everything except for when you have the equipment and you also get scenic rides and Lanebreak. You don’t get that in the Guide, but everything else you get for $24 a month. That’s for up to five people in your household.
I get why you don’t get Lanebreak because how would that function? You need the equipment to engage with it.
Same with the scenic classes.
When you do that, is it not just picture scrolling while you pedal?
Yeah, but what are you pedaling if you don’t have equipment? It’s built-in in a different way
You pedal when you take a class.
This is my interpretation of this. It feels to me like they’re recording the classes and then they put the classes on the platform. For the scenic classes, I feel like they’re using the integration from your bike to say, “This is how far you’ve gone. This is how fast you’re going.”
If you pedal faster, you see it faster.
Yes, you do.
I didn’t realize that.
There are guided ones. There are different kinds. There are ones that go for a certain time amount, then there are ones that go for a distance and a time, and then there’s just a scenic. They’re all a little bit different in how they act. That’s why.
I’ve never realized that they did.
It didn’t use to be that way. It was about two years ago that they started it when they were releasing scenic classes. Do you remember that? When they were releasing scenic classes, that’s when they started doing the auto resistance and the auto incline.
If you drop your resistance and pedal fast, will it make everybody look like they’re like in a Benny Hill segment lie they would move into a place 50 sacks?
They just go a little faster. It’s noticeable but no.
It’s not like a wacky Saturday morning live-action TV show.
Yes, it is. Why don’t you try it and tell me how much you like it?
I know what you’re up to. It’s funny how people have so universally given up. No one tries at all anymore. You can always tell if it’s someone who has never listened when they occasionally try.
In Peloton, you find people who get you from across the world. Share on XThey’re like, “Do you not ride the bike?”
The price has dropped.
It is, as I said, permanent. I don’t think you’re going to see sales anymore.
It makes me wonder. Do they have a warehouse full of them and they’re going to blow them out and then they’re going to quietly go away?
We talked about this a while back, the roll call classes that were every day. That was pretty much the only daily class that came out of the Guide consistently. They stopped doing those because they stopped having live classes on Wednesdays in the studio. I can’t help but wonder if that’s connected to that. Does it spell out that things are going to be phased out? Don’t forget that they’re also at the same time teasing new content under development and we have things with the bench.
That would lend itself very well to barbells.
I feel like there is a shift happening in that little vertical. I don’t know exactly what it is yet because they haven’t quite spelled it out. They may be hoping we don’t notice. When are they going to learn? We notice.
People notice.
The whole community will figure this stuff out eventually. I feel like that’s what they’re hoping. They make the shift and everybody doesn’t talk about it.

In Bryant Park in midtown Manhattan, there are a couple of times a year that you can do yoga publicly. There is going to be one coming up in Bryant Park.
Is it outlawed typically? Do you get arrested for doing yoga?
It’s not, but it’s neat because, at the park, they have this whole series of yoga instructors teaching yoga. It started in May and runs all summer. It’s like a summer series. It’s like the movies in the park that we have here. They have yoga in the park there. If you’re wondering when it’s free yoga twice a week, Tuesday mornings, 10:00 AM Eastern, and Wednesday evenings, 6:00 PM Eastern. This is in New York, Midtown Manhattan. The rest of us cannot partake unless we happen to be in the city during these times.
The interesting thing about this is that there is a huge variety of yoga instructors. Some work for Peloton and some have worked for Peloton. We found that interesting. Anna Greenberg will be there. Mariana Fernandez will be there. Kirra Michel. All current Peloton instructors. Also, Colleen Saisman Yee. I haven’t heard that name in a while.
I don’t even remember that one.
She was the very first Peloton instructor when they originally launched Peloton yoga. They let it go away, and then it came back. That’s when it was Kristin, Aditi, and Anna that relaunched it. Those three started at the same time. Kristin McGee, who had just left Peloton will also be there. There are tons of instructors throughout, but those are the ones that pertain specifically to Peloton. That’s the lure. You’ve got that to lure. I find that interesting. Do you?

I feel like the wheels are just turning.
This is like when New Edition toward with Ralph Tresvant and Bobby Brown.
Just like that.
They had three lead singers. I’m blanking on who the second one was, but they all became big-time solo artists, and then they finally did a tour where all three of the big lead singers came back.
That’s pretty cool. The difference between them is they’re not all out there at the same time. Remember, this is going on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Because they might fight?
These instructors are all sprinkled through. Colleen Saidman Yee is there with her husband Rodney Yee on August 21st, for example. Kira Michel is there on September 4th. They’re spread out.
They are keeping them separated. Here you go, Bryant Park. Here’s a good promotion. Yoga catfight.
If you want to go, registration is simple and free, but also they ask that you arrive about fifteen minutes in advance and bring your own mat and water.
Peloton Studios New York will be closed for three weeks. The studio is on sabbatical.
Here’s the thing. This is so interesting because, for the first time, Peloton posted this year, “Here are the closure dates of the studio.” I said this at the time that you guys don’t believe these dates. I have a feeling they are not accurate.
You said that very loudly.
Here comes the summer studio closure. It was for one week. Right before Memorial Day is what it was listed as. The week before that comes up on the studio schedule, people go in to start getting their classes like they do every Thursday. No dice. There are no new classes. Nothing dropped. I reach out to Peloton and I’m like, “What’s going on?” They were like, “The website is up to date.” I was like, “You might want to double-check that.” They were like, “Our bad. It’s closed from August 19th through September 4th.”
Within The Clip Out team, the Helper Bees have come up with some theories as to why this could be. One of them is maybe it’s the All-For-One weekend. You know how they have the All-For-One Music Fest. They changed what it used to be into what it is now. Maybe that’s what’s going on. It’s going to be closed to members, but it’s not necessarily going to be closed. Maybe there is still going to be a recording and things like that. Members can’t be in there during that. The hesitation on that if that’s the theory last year, they had members there for All-For-One, but maybe they change gears or change directions. Maybe there are going to be reasons that they can’t do that. I don’t know.
They’re expecting a new pandemic.
I sincerely hope not. Let’s not repeat 2020. That’s the main theory that we have. There’s something about AFO going on during one of those weeks that they were recording and they want to keep it on the DL. They don’t want to have members in while they’re doing it. That’s the thought. The other interesting thing that goes along with that theory is that Peloton Studios London is still only closed for the one week leading up to Labor Day. That’s also another reason that we think that it could have something to do with an All-For-One, but you would think that All-For-One would be being recorded in London too. I don’t know.
Unless they’re bringing them over here.

Always lots of stories. We’ll do some quick hits of stories you might have missed. Alex Toussaint had a nice moment.
There was a member, Braden, who came in from Toronto. Alex gifted him with a pair of Alex’s favorite Puma sneakers. He had been a member that has been on a ton of his runs. He was in the studio. Alex was like, “I recognize that all of your consistency and your loyalty. Thank you for doing that.” That’s cool.
Emma Lovewell has her new Cradle Your Core series.
That is like Crush Your Core but for pregnant mommies.
You don’t want to crush that core. That would be Ill-advised. Leanne Hainsby Aldis was on a podcast speaking about her cancer diagnosis.
She talked about that and how after she had treatment, she had no choice but to lean into the vulnerability of the current situation and embrace it.
Jess King was posting some dance videos for people.
This is funny because long before she was a Peloton instructor, she was on the show So You Think You Can Dance? She was showing the performance on Instagram in her living room simultaneously dancing and doing the routine. It was pretty funny. It was great. It makes you laugh to see. That’s funny to see and to see how she looked ten years ago or however long that’s been to now. Not in a bad way at all. It’s that time changes things like different hair and different clothes. I miss that show. I loved that show when that came. I was obsessed.
I never watched it. Not my jam.
I get it. I feel that way about a lot of shows, as you know.
Ally Love had an update about studio class access sort of, but maybe not really.
She did a live the day that she posted about her new clothing line going live. That was July 11th, I think. On that day, when she was doing her Instagram live, she talked about the fact that the studio was now allowing people to walk in and you didn’t have to be on a waitlist anymore. You could be on standby without having to go in and say, “I want to be on the waitlist.” If the wait list was full, you could still have a chance to get in. Do you understand what I’m saying?
That is odd to me because there have always been people who have said they somehow were able to talk their way in. It depends on what’s going on with the classes that day, who is working in security, or who is working at the front desk. I heard people have success with this. I have also heard people do not have success with this. The interesting thing about this is that there are no changes to the website or the studio booking. I don’t know why she’s saying this publicly because if they have not changed their official policy, then she should not be saying that. I don’t mean that she did anything wrong. Maybe somebody told her to do that, but they should not have told her to do that. It’s a bad idea.
The other thing that she also said was that the doors are no longer locked. If they locked those doors, they’re like, “Everybody in for Ally Love’s class goes in.” You get cleared at the front desk and then you go and get ready for class. If you’re not part of that group, you have to wait outside. Now, anybody can walk in according to Ally. That’s the part that’s super mind-blowing to me that you would say. If she was told to say this, I’m surprised that someone told her to say that because the security already has to be so tight for these instructors, especially the women. Although the men have their fair share of crazy people following them.
It’s different.
I didn’t want to make it sound like it’s not hard for both or whatever.
Not important for both, but it’s different for women.
I thought it was weird that they’re like saying, “Come on in. It’s fine. I have not confirmed that this is the case. I have not had anybody go in and say, “Confirmed. The doors are no longer locked. You can come and go at Peloton as you please.” Something about this doesn’t feel right and accurate. I feel like people need to know that they should still try their best to get on the waitlist. Do not go all the way to New York unless you know you have a spot. If you are traveling a long distance, probably pump the brakes. Don’t plan on you just get to walk in and do whatever you want. That’s the vibe that’s going around right now. I want to quash that. If that is happening, I doubt it’s going to stay that way.
I guess maybe somebody gets lucky, it happens.
It has always been like that. That’s no change. There’s no change in the procedure. There have always been people that have gotten in that way. I don’t think we should be saying the policy has changed. I don’t know. I’m concerned people are going to think that’s like a free-for-all and they can go and get in whatever class they want. It’s not the case. On the flip side, Ally was saying the reason that they made these changes is because there are times, and this has always been the case as well, there are empty bikes. We’ve talked about this many times. When we were in London, they were like, “Come on in.”
They were trying to get me on a bike three times.
You were like, “No.” I know that it does happen, but I don’t think that people should count on being able to come and go from the studio at will. That’s that.
You’ve also been getting questions about Peloton and nutrition, which I will get out in front of right now and say unequivocally, do not eat your Peloton.
That’s a bad idea.
It is a very bad idea. They are not nutritious in any way, shape, or form. What are you, a belly goat? Don’t eat those. Don’t eat your Peloton. If you’re going to eat a piece of Peloton equipment, my recommendation, again, you should not, but if you’re going to ignore that first piece of advice, I would recommend the Guide.
It’s small and compact.
It’s the cheapest. Don’t eat the $2,000 piece of equipment. Eat the $95 piece of equipment.
Fair enough. People have been asking about this. Here’s the deal. Nothing new has come of this. This has been the same information that we’ve been reporting for years.
When John Foley was in charge, we talked about Peloton and nutrition.
Back when we used to talk about the Peloton Prophet, that was when we first got wind of this. It’s been years that Peloton has been dancing around this nutrition thing. We even said earlier this year or it might have been last year that it was imminent because all the instructors are posting all this cooking content. It’s getting close, guys. This is happening. What exactly will it look like? We still don’t know. What we do know is that it’s not going to look vastly different than what we’re already seeing.
It’s going to be Robin making another recipe that she puts on Instagram Live. That’s what we’re going to see. It’s probably going to be a little more formalized than that. We might even get some meal plans. What we will not see, and I want to be clear about this. There’s not going to be one-to-one nutrition coaching with these coaches. If you want that, then what you’re going to get is like Jess King, through her mindful training or something like that. You’re not going to get a one-on-one coach from Peloton telling you specifically how to eat. It’s not going to happen.
How would they even find the bandwidth for that?
They cannot scale it. It is not possible to scale. Those are the big questions I’ve been getting. There’s no official launch date. It’s imminent. It’s coming. I know it’s coming soon, but do I have a date? No.
It’s coming soon or eight years from now.
It’s like my tread that was going to be delivered in the fall and got here on December 15th.
It’s like how the pause button used to be.
That’s right.
Speaking of nutrition. If you’re training for a marathon and you’re counting your macros, how do you handle that? Angelo will help you with that right after this.

Thanks for having me back. It’s always a pleasure to be here.
We appreciate you taking the time to answer questions for our community. One of the questions that we’re going to talk about is from Nicole Marie. There are a lot of people, including myself, who are training for marathons in the fall. A lot is happening right now. She wants to know how to fuel properly when running a training cycle without eating all the carbs. What is the proper balance for protein, carbs, and fats?
Nicole, this is a common question that we get. I have to coach my clients by asking the right questions. The proper amount of fuel will be whatever your body needs to perform at your best. Unfortunately, as you likely understand, that will be a different amount for each person. I can read between the lines a little bit. Nicole said, “Without eating all the carbs.” Was that her word?
Yeah, it was.
What I would do is experiment not with doing it in reverse and starting with no carbs and then adding. I would start eating plenty of carbs. What you can do is prevent overconsuming carbohydrates because I’m presuming your body composition or weight is something you’re trying to keep in check. If it’s not and you’re not worried about weight gain, have the carbs. For a lot of people, that’s not a thing. When they eat more carbs, they don’t gain weight. Have the carbs. That’s the fuel you want for your performance. That’s what all my top-level athletes who are competing in Ironman, Kona, and Ultra Marathons do. We have them eating absurd amounts of carbohydrates, but their body is conditioned to it.
Go back to some practical testing for you, Nicole. At MetPro, what we would do is the baseline test. We would put you on a standard bland, boring meal plan for 72 hours. That’s thousands of other women in your demographic. I’m not sure what age, height, weight, and things like that. We would pick something that’s roughly standard and then we would evaluate based on first your energy and performance, and then based on any fluctuations to your body weight or composition, and adjust your carbohydrates based on that.
Here’s what I would start with. Start with getting a balanced amount of carbs with breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner. If your performance is good but you want less carbs, remove dinner. A lot of people will say, “Make sure you get your carbs pre and post-workout.” That’s fine, but I’m going to assume you’re not training at 8:30 at night. Statistically, balance and probability are you’re training either in the morning or the first half of the day most days. I’m going to say you’re safe focusing on carbs with breakfast, lunch, and snacks, and then doing a higher protein and then fibrous carbs, that is vegetables, as the bulk of your dinner. That’s a great place to start.
For whatever reason, if you find this would be a worthy reason to reach out and have a conversation with us, but if you find you need less carbs than that, then you’re going to want to be specific in how you reduce further. I would say go even across the board between breakfast, lunch, and snack. That hopefully at least gives you a little bit of direction. As always, Nicole, if you want to learn more, give us a little more information and more specifics on you, and we can craft something custom to your needs. As for general listeners, that’s what I would start with. I would pull carbs out of dinner. I would get carbs with the rest of the meals. Don’t forget that mid-afternoon snacks for athletes are critically important. Always get a mid-afternoon snack.
Something I would like to add that you’ve told me a million times is to make sure that you watch your added sugar with those carbs. Not all carbs are created equal for Nicole.
When you have higher sugar or higher glycemic carbs, that’s going to favor blood sugar. If your blood sugar is low, that’s going to bring blood sugar up, but it’s not as efficient at replenishing glycogen stored in your muscle liver. That’s what you want for your run, specifically the glycogen stored in your muscles. Easy to digest and slower-burning complex carbs are going to be your go-to. Think of the fitness foods. Oatmeal, brown rice, sweet potato, and those sorts of things are always going to be your best go-to for carbs.

Adrian Williams was teasing some stuff over on the gram.
He posted and talked about how lately, he has been pretty quiet on Instagram. He said that August is going to be a big month of growth and change, and a large step towards something greater. He said that he’s been quiet all for good reason and he’s very excited to share what’s coming next with the community. What we know is that the entire image is flashing a video game glitch. We don’t know if that means something or not. Also, we know that in this video, he was also wearing a T-shirt where you could see a logo that had a man running with a hibiscus flower on it. Does it mean anything? Is it connected to what he’s saying? I have no clue. No idea. None of us do.
Adrian knows.
Okay, but I don’t think Adrian is listening right now. I felt like none of us knew. What we do know is that people are bringing in the guesses. I love seeing all the guesses. We’ve got everything from he’s writing a book. That’s fair. That’s a fair guess. Maybe it’s coffee. The man loves his coffee. Maybe it’s a running partnership. Great question. Somebody said, “I hope he doesn’t leave to start a podcast.” My reply was, “That was June. We’re not doing that in August.” Maybe it’ll be the meditations. You never know. Those are all the guesses that we are seeing from the community. I love it. We will keep you updated as soon as we see it.

He also mentioned that he has a bunch of classes that are already recorded. They are going to be on the tread and strength. There are going to be lots of new releases even while he’s out on paternity leave. Now we go straight to baby watch. We will be posting as soon as we see baby pictures.

Do not only take different instructors, but also take them multiple times. Share on XIt is so funny. Cliff was showing JJ how to get prepared for a baby. He takes him through training. One of the things was like, “Hold onto this dumbbell here, then you got to pick up the kettlebell because you’re going to be holding your baby, but you still got to do other things,” or like, “You’re playing with the baby so you got to take your dumbbell and toss it in the air and catch it while you’re laying on your back, and then you got to take your baby and burp it. You’re going to do that with the dumbbell as well.” They were very silly and fun. I thought it was great.
Cliff doesn’t think very highly of Jermaine’s baby.
He is getting him prepared to use those muscles.
He’s using a dumbbell.
I also thought it was funny that he came up with, he’s not calling the kid dumb. He also came up with names for all of them. Flex and Hold was for holding the baby. It’s Okays, where they are patting the baby on the back. Daddy Wake up crunches because somebody comes in with a nightmare. You got to sit up real fast, and then Lift It Up But Hold Me Tight At The Same Time. I thought that was great. It’s good that he’s getting him ready for paternity leave. I love that they do stuff like this. The UK crew does fun stuff like this all the time. They look like they have a lot of fun over there.
Probably because they can hang out a little bit more relaxed and they’re not under the same microscope.
That could be because it did used to be like that back in the day.
Logan Aldridge participated in the soldier ride NYC.
He rode with a group of over 40 wounded warriors. They rode all the way from Manhattan to Coney Island. I thought that was cool. He said that it was great to ride along with these people and experience the great work that the Wounded Warrior Project continues to do. How cool is that? Logan is a great guy. He’s an awesome person.
Alex Toussaint is hosting the Shakeout Run with Puma.
It takes place on July 27th at 9:00 AM. This is Pacific Time. That’s what I thought. He’s headed out to California for this, Marina Boulevard, San Francisco. There’s going to be a 3-mile run, giveaways, demos, food, and drinks from Equator Coffee, which makes sense because it’s taking place at the Equator.
Hannah Corbin. Hannah Corbin has launched her own website, Hannah-Corbin.com.
Congrats to her for launching a website. It gave me very much Callie vibes. This looks very similar. I don’t know if somebody is setting this stuff up for them. It’s like when they all decided to do newsletters and then we find out there’s this big push from the newsletter company. I have a feeling this is something similar to that. It has a very similar look, and it displays all of her work in a similar fashion. I think it’s great that they’re able to do that.
As people develop websites, you do get this like, “This is the new way websites are supposed to look,” and everybody uses that same layout.
That was my thought process. That’s not a negative against Hannah. I find it interesting and I think we might see more instructors.

At least I don’t have to feel old for not knowing who she is. I’m just not Brazilian.
I didn’t know who it was either. It’s dropping this week and there are going to be six different classes. There’s going to be rides, strengths, a yoga flow, and a run. Lots of fun stuff.
I don’t know much about Brazil. I am a fan of their wax. We also have a little sneak peek at the next three weeks of the artist series. Looking to the future, we have first up a Kid Cudi artist series.
Several classes are out on the studio website that people could sign up for when they drop. It’s too late now, but that’ll be the week of August 2nd. We will see those drop.
After that, we have Chappelle Roan.
I know none of these people. I’ve heard of Kid Cudi. I’ve never heard of Chappelle Roan. That is me being old, I’m pretty sure.
Seems it. I was hoping she was Brazilian, but apparently not. Finally, in three weeks, we’ll have Imagine Dragons.
I have heard of Imagine Dragons. They have been part of the All-For-One Music series in the past as well. They have their music series coming in the third week.

Number one this week is a favorite 30-minute ride. This one was taught by Jenn Sherman. It was a 30-minute epic sing-along from Sunday, July 21st. Deb Anzalone recommended this class, “It was fun. Jenn had everyone singing and laughing, especially me.” Nancy Nielsen also loved this ride. She couldn’t agree more. She had her first JSS ride back when she got her bike in 2018 and it was an epic sing-along and she always wanted to be in the studio for one. She was there. Congrats to Nancy.
Number two, your favorite bootcamp program.
The Floor Bootcamp 2 program was released with Jess Sims and Selena Samuela. Carrie Pickett Martin took this program and she said it’s amazing. She said it was such a great workout and so much fun. She forgot how much she loved the structure of the first program. It’s been a while since she did it, but she’s happy that they now have the second program. Two 30-minute bootcamp classes a week with a 20-minute benchmark class at the end of the week. They are so motivating and the classes fly by.
Number three, your favorite 45-minute ride.
Denis Morton taught a 45-minute ‘80s ride on July 20th. Carrie McGillary Logan said this class was her favorite. She said the music was awesome and Denis was extra funny and energetic. Kathy Nash agreed and said, “If you ever are in the midst of a breakup, this is your playlist.”
Number four, your favorite yoga flows.
This got a tie. We had two that came up. One was a yoga flow also from Denis Morton. It was 60 minutes from July 19th. That same day, Kirra Michel dropped a 30-minute New Wave yoga. People loved both. Mia Beto specifically said she picked both and Denis’s class had lots of Crow poses, so it hurt her arms, but 60 minutes was the perfect length for her to slow down. She also said that the playlist on the New Wave yoga flow was amazing and a must-take. It had songs by Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark, INXS, and Cyndi Lauper. I do not remember Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark. I was trying to make that Manchester Orchestra. I kept seeing it. My brain kept flipping it around.
They only have one song. If You Leave from Pretty and Pink.
I’ve heard it then. I just didn’t know the name of it.
Number five, although technically, I guess this is now the TCO Top Six, you’re unstackable.
I believe this might be Jeffrey McEachern’s first visit to the Unstackable list.

He had a 45-minute ‘90s ride that he taught on July 20th. Julie Benson said, “I thought it would be cute and fun to take this live 45-minute run. However, he had three sets of progression runs. The first was 14 minutes long.” She said what kept her going strong was the incredible playlist and his bright and engaging personality. She got a high five from Erik Jäger who happened to be in the studio running too.
It’s all worthwhile.
What a great list.
Let’s take a look at things that have recently happened or are getting ready to happen this week at Peloton. We got a new epic singalong ride.
She just released it so it came out on demand. It’s the one we talked about in the TCO Top Five. Also, new Fit Family classes with Jess Sims dropped. She has a couple of these different ones, They’re in different areas, so everybody in the house can stay active together, which is nice, especially during the summer.
A 60-minute yoga flow with Aditi Shah.
This one is taking place on July 28th at 8:30 AM Eastern. Aditi is going to be leading the whole 60 minutes as a way to capture a moment of self-fine-tuning with serenity and focus.
We have a Power Zone Max with Christine D’Ercole.
It’s 45 minutes, also this Sunday, July 28th. You know Christine and you know Power Zone Max. It’s going to be a tough class, but what a way to start the day.
We should also mention that the Set The Pace Podcast from the New York Roadrunners Association is now available on the Peloton platform.
You can find this in a few different places. You can go to the Collections and find it there. They have ten different classes. You also can go to Outdoor and they show up there. Last week, I had to run for 3.5 hours and I took four of these classes. They were great. I learned a lot about Mariana Fernandez. That one was my favorite because I love Mariana, but also Becs had Dave Kilgore on who was responsible for her doing this crazy world race thing.
He has done it before. They talked through the logistics clearly. Becs talked about the parts that she’s nervous about and he gave her some tips. It was a great interview. My other favorite one was also Ali On The Run was there right after the New York half. It was Becs by herself. Rob Simmelkjaer was not there as her co-host that day, so it was Becs interviewing Ali Feller from Ali On The Run. They talked about what a crazy year Ali has had since her cancer diagnosis, going through all the treatments, and still dealing with the treatment. That was a lovely interview as well. Both those ladies are wonderful.

Lots of neutral colors. That’s what we’re going for in the set. Honestly, it’s not my jam at all. If fall had already started and it had a little more greenery in it, I could get on board with it. It’s just not my thing. Hopefully, people will like it though.

Joining us is Kayla Lippens. How is it going?
We’re so glad to have you here. I don’t know if you’ve ever had the opportunity to listen to us before but I always start these interviews by going back in time. Take us back to when you first found out about Peloton then guide us through how did that happen.
Discovering Peloton
My story begins a little sad but it’s okay. I promise. I heard about Peloton probably from random people like word of mouth. At the time, I was doing life coaching and one of my clients had a Peloton and she was like, “You would love this. You should get one.” I was like, “Okay.” I was looking at the price of them and I was like, “No.” I have always been somebody who will do something but I never stick to it.
I told my husband and I showed him the price. He was like, “No, you’re going to end up sitting” I was like, “Probably you’re right.” Here’s where it gets sad. We had our second miscarriage and this time, I was away further along. We knew it was a boy and had a name picked out. After that, I was like, “I feel like I need to be in control of something,” because I couldn’t control my body. It was our second loss back-to-back. I was a wreck.
I feel like I need to be in control of my body in some way and I want Peloton. He was like, “Okay.” Pity party like, “At this point, I can’t say no to her. She needs something.” I feel like I need something to be in control of my own body because I felt like my body failed me and I felt no control. You have no control when you’re pregnant. You have to hope for the best every day. I already have a horrible pregnancy where I vomit a lot, already losing weight, and gestational diabetes, and a bunch of stuff.
I got my Peloton as a pity party gift. I ordered it right before Christmas of 2021. It didn’t get to my house until 2022 of January. I took my first ride, Red by Taylor Swift. I’m a Swiftie, so that was my first ride. That’s my weird way of how I got into Peloton. One of my clients was like, “You should do it.” Finally, once I got it hard, my husband was like, “I’m going to let her,” and I fell in love.
I have been doing it ever since. I love it. I love the community and it’s the only thing I’ve stuck to fitness-wise my entire life that I’ve been consistent with and still do to this day. It didn’t end up being a clothes hanger or filled with dust. It gets used on the regular. It was a sad story, but I’ve met so many amazing people in my fitness journey from that horrible time. That’s how Peloton started for me.
We jumped right in. Sorry.
I hope I didn’t ramble too much to start.
Not at all.
It starts off sad because it started as a pity party gift.
I’m going to take a page also from Dr. Jenn since we were just talking about her. I think she would say, “We need to reframe this and use this as an opportunity to change things and review them.” That’s tough going through that. Were you always a person who was active? Is that why it called out to you or do you think there was another reason?
I have gone through my phases of working out like counting your macros and that was huge. My lifting weights was huge. I feel like I’ve gone through my phases where I was active for a while, but then I would fall off. I would never fully stick to something for longer than even a year. I would do something, I would get motivated, I would learn about it, and I would do it.
I’ve been in the gym, counted macros, and lost weight. My fitness journey has been like this, but Peloton has been the only thing that I’ve stuck to. I feel like because I have been in the gym before and been active, I was like, “I want this.” I already knew a little bit about it from Reels or TikToks or whatever it was where people shared. I already knew about it, but dove head first. I was like, “I need to control my body in some way and this is what I want to use it in.”
I like the way you said reframing it. Take something bad and make it into something good. Take control of what I can control and try to move forward in a healthy way instead of my normal. What I would do before is I would get into fitness things and if there was something bad that happened in my life or I got sick, I would fall off and I wouldn’t get back into it.
There was nothing that kept me sticking to it. Where in Peloton, there’s always something new and keeping me engaged. It’s like I’ve re-fallen in love with something in a whole different aspect, which is funny because I never cycled before Peloton. My husband was like, “Why do you even want to bike?” I was like, “I don’t know. I just want this.” That’s why he said no for a long time and I understood why he said no. He was like, “This is an expensive thing that you’re going to fall off of in a couple of months when something happens.” He said no for a long time for my history for a good reason.
Peloton Community
We had a very similar conversation when Crystal first wanted one millions of years ago. I was like, “We have an elliptical in the basement that’s covered in dust.”
It’s exactly what he said.
The treadmill in the garage is different.
It was like a kid asking for a puppy. “No, this time, it will be different. I will take care of it.”
I did feel it would be different. We have to go back a little bit because, by the time 2020 gets here, as you said, there were Reels and TikToks. When I got mine, there was none of that. It was 2016. Some people had them but it wasn’t this phenomenon. You couldn’t go to the store and look at one. You couldn’t see it in other people’s houses.
I thought it would be different. I was like, “It’s going to be like the instructor is right there.” That’s what felt different to me, and also having the same metrics to be able to compare over and over, versus going to a gym where you’re on bike A and you get this output. You go to bike B and you get this output and how do you even see what your comparison was? I thought that would be the big thing for me. I feel I was completely wrong about why. The instructors do engage you but it was the community for me and it sounds like it was for you too.
Yeah. I didn’t find a full community even for a while, but even people in the leaderboard or in classes. My first class was on January 2nd or something like that. Taylor Swift’s Red came out and I was going through a hard time. I was listening to that album and I remember the first class I ever took on it was a Robin’s class. There were so many people there and I didn’t get it because I was so new but I was getting high fives because it was my first class. I was like, “Oh my gosh.”
Even just that, I was like, “I’m not alone on this bike.” These people are from all over the world. It was so crazy to me. Solely from there, I shared a Peloton and the tags on Instagram, I would find friends. It took me a while to find an actual community, but even before that, random people would follow you because you take Peloton. You find people who get you from across the world. In my small town, maybe people don’t necessarily get me, but then I found this entire group of people who also love Peloton but are also similar to me. It’s hard to explain until you’re in it. In a way, it maybe it is but it’s a good one.
That’s what I always say. It’s the healthiest you’ll ever be in.
I feel like since I’ve got my Peloton and the journey that I’ve gone through, I’ve found people who understand me and even the hard times too. Even the instructors were sometimes sobbing on the bike. I’m like, “I’m going through it.” What they say and the community, the combination has been life-changing for me.
Peloton Instructors
I agree with all of that. I feel like I am an introvert by nature and it sounds like maybe you are too. Finding people that you instantly have something in common with and you have nothing to talk about no matter where you are in the world is life-changing. When you say you found your community, is it a place on Facebook or Instagram? Is it that community? Is it like you call it your community because they’re spread everywhere and it’s the people you happen to have met along the way? How does that look on your end?
It’s a little combination of both but I don’t know exactly how I found it, but Kendall was one of the first instructors that I felt called to. I was listening to one of your episodes and I was like, “I don’t think you vibe with Kendall.” We’ll get back around to that when we get to the other questions. The Never Knocked Out Crew, her community of people, has changed my life for the better. We’ll get into that.
You can just jump in now. We don’t have to do this in order. You just say it and get it out there.
In the past few months, I felt a shift in Kendall’s energy. In the past six months, I haven’t even been taking her classes as much and she was my favorite instructor ever. I don’t know the tea and all the stuff. I felt a shift in her. I still love the Never Knocked Out Crew community and even her. She helped me but missed the old her. That doesn’t mean I want to talk bad or anything.
Sometimes, it's good to push yourself outside of that comfort zone and do that hard thing. Share on XI’ve always felt like the black sheep or an emo kid, extroverted but introverted and never fit. I was always that person growing up and felt very lonely in that way. It turns out this whole community of people have all felt that way and feel that way. It’s nice that we all feel outcasts or black sheep or emos. There’s a bunch of us. I like it in the sense that people get me that I’ve never met before.
I feel like I’ve met people online through Instagram or the chat or their Facebook group that I’ve become closer with or have been more supportive than most people I know in my real life because they get me in a different way. I’m so thankful that Kendall did bring that community to light and it’s still active because the people there are amazing.
I’m glad that they are still active. For people who don’t know the history or maybe somebody will tune in to this in six months or a year and be like, “What? What are you talking about?” The very high level, Kendall has said that stress started at work in late November of 2023. She ended up leaving in June. That shift in energy that you’re talking about matches that time frame. It’s not crazy. If we were experiencing stress, anger, or any emotion that’s extreme, happy, bad, or good, that can change how we interact. That’s not crazy that you noticed a shift in energy. You’re also not the first person that has said that to me.
That’s why it’s sad. I’m not trying to talk bad about her because she changed my life and my thoughts and it brought me so many close friends. I sensed a weird shift in energy. I’m like, “That sounds weird because I can’t explain what I mean.” I felt something changed. I almost started taking other instructor’s classes more. When Kendall announced that she was leaving, I was not shocked but I was also like, “I’m glad that I started branching out.” Not that I only ever took her classes because she can be a hardcore instructor. Sometimes, I don’t want to bounce on the ball all the time with my rides.
She’s probably going through it too. I could sense that. I’m like, “I can tell that she doesn’t want to be here. The amount of time she mentions that she wants to go to California and she hates it here, I can tell.” I don’t know why. I could tell that. Something was different with her. That’s why when you asked me who my favorite instructor was, I’m not sure anymore because it was Kendall up until four months ago, Ride or Die Kendall, but now I’m branching out into others.
It’s good though. I like other people’s way of teaching, their words, the way they motivate you and speak to you too. It’s interesting how I felt a weird shift. I feel like other people did too. I don’t know what happened, but I felt that all of a sudden. It was like something happened. It was weird that you could feel that over a screen. That helps to find Peloton so much that you can feel it. When people are like, “What do you mean you feel like you’re working out with them?” I’m like, “You can tell when they’re going through a hard time. When their energy is off, you can tell. That’s how close you are.” That’s why I love Peloton so much.
Where are you trending now in a post-Kendall universe?
I’m honestly taking a lot of different instructors. Besides Kendall, I also love Bradley because he’s funny to me.
She’s dating around.
Even when Kendall was my absolute favorite, I still took other people too. I love Bradley because he’s so funny. I love Camila’s vibe. I feel like she makes a great class playlist too. I’m also not into reggaeton or reggae and Spanish. I haven’t found somebody that’s like my rider or die, but that’s maybe a good thing. I feel like I’m in limbo now. I’m dating around.
I’m taking everybody but I like so many different things from other people, but so far, I haven’t found another instructor where I like almost everything they put out yet but I’ll get there or as you said, I’m playing around. It’s fun in a weird way. I’m like, “I’m going to take a Tunde class today or I’m going to take this today,” and trying to do more bike bootcamps or different classes that I’ve taken. I challenge myself a little bit during this phase.
The Holderness did stages of Peloton video and it cracked me up at the time. One stage of Peloton that they did not talk about is when your favorite instructor leaves. If you’ve been part of Peloton for any amount of time and one of your instructors you’ve been with has left, it’s like your first love. The first is always the hardest. You then realize, “I do need to branch out. I shouldn’t only take classes with whoever that is.”
It’s also very fascinating because some of the instructors have started to go to different modalities too because they have different personas in different classes. Olivia on the bike is a little ADD for me. I don’t mean that’s her or that she has it. I mean the way she’s constantly changing the speed or in the saddle or out of the saddle. For some people, they need that and that’s a good thing. For me, that doesn’t vibe.
I don’t take Olivia’s classes. I love her playlists and I want to, but every time I take an Olivia class, I feel so defeated. I’m like, “I can’t do this.” Even with her easy classes, I’m like, “I can’t do this.”
The interesting thing is if you take a run with her, it’s a different class. I love that. The same with Robin. It’s a very different vibe whenever they teach different classes. I also encourage people to not only take different instructors but also take them multiple times because as you said, they might be having a day. If you hit the wrong class with somebody, you may not feel it.
That’s why I feel like you should always go through the playlist and find music that you like, try going off of that, and then see who the instructor is. One day, your instructor or the instructor is having a bad day or you can see they’re not themselves or not instructing how they normally would. It’s good and branching out is good.
It’s different training too. It changes up your body a little bit. You’re not expecting the same exact 30-minute routine that you normally would expect. Cody will have harder resistance and some like to do faster cadence. It’s good to switch it up. Sometimes, it can be frustrating. I’m like, “I’m not good at this, but that’s why I should be doing this because I need to get better at this.”
A lot of people don’t like to do that because as I said, I don’t like to take a lot of Olivia’s classes because she’ll make me feel defeated. Sometimes it’s good to push yourself outside of that comfort zone and do that hard thing. Maybe I do need that push from her and to challenge myself a little bit more. I try to do it on a day where I’m like, “I can handle this.” For me, if I have the Bike+, I have it set to auto in those things and if I don’t hit that spot, I feel not good. It’s one of those things where it’s like, “You don’t always have to hit every single mark either. You can chill and it’s okay.” I put those high expectations on myself sometimes.
Self Love Empowerment
Before we started recording, you mentioned that you had a podcast that’s on a little bit of a break. I was curious what that podcast was about.
Mental health and organization, but mainly mental health. It was me brain-dumping and talking about anxiety, depression, and life stuff.
Feel free to share it if you would like to.
It’s called the Self Love Empowerment podcast. I have a bunch of stuff. I made a journal on Amazon. That’s a Self Love Empowerment Journal and it all ties together. I felt like I was going through a little rough time so I was like, “I need to take a little break for a little bit and get back.” I have taken a little break from it, but it’s about mental health. Hence why I love Kendall so much and the community. It all attracts. I love Kendall and I still love her. I want the best for her. People aren’t supposed to stay in jobs. You are told that you’re supposed to change jobs every 6 to 7 years. I’m glad that she’s doing something else that hopefully she’ll like eventually down the road too. It makes perfect sense why I like Kendall. The mental health, the emo, and the feelings all tie perfectly together.
I’m like, “I’ve been at the same place for eighteen years.”
That’s okay, honey. That’s her pick for you.
I’m a stay-at-home mom now.
I would point out that your job duties have changed and you notice that. I was very specific. I tried to enunciate that very well because otherwise, he will make a poop joke if I don’t enunciate.
You used to talk about multiple duties.
You could be at the same job for years but you probably done different stuff in between there. Growth change.
I’ve been doing that for years.
Peloton Classes
I know. It is crazy that you’ve been doing that for ten years. That’s a whole other subject. We don’t need to go down another rabbit hole that we take you down. What other kinds of classes are you taking on the platform? Are you bike only?
I love strength. I probably do more strength than bike even. I love shadowboxing. That’s another thing I need to thank Kendall for. That’s honestly been a huge game-changer for me. I do owe Kendall that because of the mental health release from hitting the air, which I eventually want to get a bag. I love the strength classes, which are awesome because they lead you to a whole other group of instructors.
I don’t have the tread. I would love the tread one day. I love the strength instructors too like Selena. A whole ball game that changed my physical appearance the most was strength training and getting stronger. That’s the biggest confidence boost too. It’s like, “These weights aren’t making me sore anymore. I need to go heavier,” then that makes you sore, and then, “I need to go up again.” You’re like, “What I’m doing is physically lifting heavier.”
You can physically see it in the weight of the dumbbells that you need to go up inside. I think that’s super motivating but also a good release for me for emotions. I do a mix. Every day, I do strength then the bike or I run outside occasionally, but I love strength. Strength is probably my most important. If it’s like strength or cardio, I’ll do strength first.
Are you pro or against the new classes they’ve been adding in like the bench, the barbells, and things like that? Are you excited?
I haven’t done any of those.
Our Clip Out team is in the process of writing up a review on the newest density program with Andy Speer. Spoiler, it’s super great and everybody is loving it.
I share my Peloton area with my kid’s playroom. If I had a barbell or any of those things, I would try them. When I physically went to a gym, I did all the dumbbells and the barbells and whatever gym stuff they had over there. I’ve done all of that. I don’t have barbells at my house. I haven’t even heard anything about it yet but if you had that, I hope it’d be good.

Very boring. It’s my name, Kayla Lippens. I’m not very creative. I can admit that about myself. When I first made my account, it’s my name and I hopped on. I still am like, “What could be a cool creative name for me?” I can’t think of one, so it’s Kayla Lippens.

That’s pretty cool in and of itself. You talked about your favorite instructors, but one thing I wanted to ask you and I haven’t asked you is have you been to the studio or do you plan to go to the studio?
I have not and I would love to go. I live in Michigan like the upper part. I’m not too far away from New York, but I have never been to New York. I have never even tried to sign up for a class in the studio but from the group chat, it seems like it’s very hard to get into a class. I’m like, “Thank God I haven’t.” I’ve been all postpartum. I’ve been with babies, so I haven’t been able to think about scheduling a class to go there, but I would love to one day. Now that my leash is a little less tied from nursing and stuff. I would love to schedule a class there with friends because it seems so fun, but it seems very stressful to get in.
It is a lot harder than it used to be. Although if you’re not focused on it’s got to be a bike class and it can be any class, you have a much better chance. If you have the ability to hop on and be a little obsessive about the waitlists, you can get in a waitlist class because those tend to open up. As soon as the new classes open up on Thursdays, that tends to be whenever people are like, “That’s a better class. I’ll dump this one.” Suddenly, there’s this influx of new inventory, but you have to be quick for sure. They still go fast.
That’s the goal one day. I’ve also never been to New York and I would love to. It sounds scary to me because I live in a little town, so taxis, cabs, and big buildings. I would love to eventually meet whoever my new favorite instructor is.
There is a sensory overload there, but everybody should go at least once because it is also amazing.

Advice To New Peloton Users
Do you have any advice for people just now entering the world of Peloton?
Start smaller almost. Pick the beginner classes because they can be overwhelming. I had friends who were like, “I saw you got a Peloton so I got it,” and then they fell off right away. I’m like, “You’re picking Tabata.” They don’t even know what Tabata is. Don’t overwhelm yourself at first because it can be scary when you’re jumping in.
Getting the basics down will help you in the long run. Share on XPeople would pick Kendall’s metal class. I’m like, “Slow down. Start with a beginner class and learn how to clip in and clip out and ride.” Try a bunch of different structures. I know that nobody likes to take some of the beginning programs but that’s how I started boxing. I never knew how to box and I did the starting boxing program. The first one was like, “Here’s how you punch.” I’m like, “Okay.”
Getting the basics down will help you in the long run. In my first class, I did Robin’s Taylor Swift Red class and I remember I was so sore afterwards. I was almost a little overwhelmed because I picked my first class, but knowing that you’re going to be sore for a couple of days. Your butts are going to be sore, but once you get accustomed to it, you can hop on all the time right after that. You’re going to be sore at first and take a bunch of different instructors.
Try different ones to find who you like and who you don’t like. Start with the beginner classes. Do strength. I know a lot of people do cardio but I swear, if you do the combination of all, it helps not only your mental health but your physical health too by mixing it up and doing things. That would be my best advice. It would be taking it slow and knowing your butts are going to be sore for a couple of days.
